Vikings claim top basketball seeds in NSCIF playoffs – Paradise Post

CHICO — The Northern Section basketball seating meeting went off without a hitch on Saturday morning.

There were no surprises and few discussions about the seeding among the committee members, most notably in regards to the meeting’s host, Pleasant Valley High School.

In both the boys and girls’ playoffs, Pleasant Valley secured top seeds and will start play this week.

Boys

In Division, the Vikings host Shasta on Friday (Feb. 21), while No. 4 seed Chico hosts Enterprise. If Chico and PV both win, the crosstown rivals will play a second-round game at PV on Feb 26.

After a resurgent year in their program, the Red Bluff Spartans secured the No. 3 seed. They will host Corning on Friday. Foothill nailed down the second seed and will host Las Plumas — and, with a win, Foothill would host the Corning-Red Bluff winner.

In Division IV, Gridley earned the top seed and got a first-round bye. Friday, it will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 9 Colusa and No. 8 Anderson.

Paradise earned the No. 5 seed and will host No. 12 Lassen at a time and date yet to be determined. The winner of that game will get the winner of Tuesday’s matchup of No. 4 West Valley against No. 13 Live Oak.

No. 3 Orland hosts No. 14 Central Valley on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Yreka, the sixth seed, hosts 11th seed Pierce. Oroville was seeded 10th and will travel to Winters on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. tip.  University Prep is the second seed and hosts No. 15 Willows.

In Division V, Weed earned the top seed and a bye and will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 8 Hamilton and No. 9 East Nicolaus on Thursday. The rest of the action will begin Thursday, with Quincy traveling to Mount Shasta, Portola hosting Modoc, and Trinity playing at Durham.

In Division VI, No. 2 Biggs will host Los Molinos on Thursday at 7 p.m. If the Wolverines win, they will host either Plumas Charter or Loyalton on Feb. 25.

In Division VII action, Paradise Adventist Academy is the top seed and will host either Dunsmuir or Herlong on Saturday. No. 5 Chester is at No. 4 Princeton on Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip.

Girls

PV has the top seed in Division II and plays the winner of Tuesday’s game between Las Plumas and Enterprise. Chico has the third seed and plays Foothill, and with a win will play the winner between No. 7 Red Bluff and No. 2 Shasta. The Spartans have lost to Shasta twice in the Eastern Athletic League by a total of nine points.

In Division IV,  University Prep earned the top seed and will play the winner of  No. 8 Lassen and No. 9 Anderson on Thursday night. Colusa earned the No. 2 seed and a bye, and will play the winner of No. 7  Yreka and No. 10 Gridley on Thursday night.

Orland earned the No. 3 seed and will host No. 14 Central Valley, while No. 6 Winters will host Oroville. West Valley is the No. 4 seed and will host No. 13 Willows, while fifth-seeded Pierce hosts No. 12  Live Oak.

Trinity earned the No. 1 seed in Division V, has the bye and will play the winner of No. 4 East Nicolaus and No. 5 Quincy on Feb. 25. Thursday, No. 3 Durham will play Portola at 7 p.m., while No. 2 Modoc will host Hamilton.

In Division VI, top seed Weed, No. 2 seed Biggs, No. 3 Fall River, No. 4 Redding Christian and No. 5 Burney all received first-round byes. No. 7 Los Molinos will host No. 10 Plumas Charter and No. 6 Loyalton will host No. 11 Maxwell, with both games Tuesday at 7 p.m.

In Division VII action, No. 7 Paradise Adventist Academy has a first-round bye and will play No. 2 Chester on Wednesday, while No. 4 Princeton hosts Surprise Valley, also in the second round.
