Nigerian air passengers are groaning after labour strike grounded airport activities across all airports in the country.

THE WHISTLER can report that hundreds of air passengers flying both local and international routes were stranded at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The development is coming after four-hour meeting between the National Assembly leadership in a bid to avert the planned national strike ended in a deadlock.

Organised labour is demanding N494,000 minimum wage and embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike on June 3, 2024 but the federal government is offering a N60,000 wage.

Following the directive, aviation unions in a joint statement signed by the General Secretaries National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Ocheme Aba; Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) Frances Akinjole; Secretary General Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) Olayinka Abioye and General Secretary the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAPE) Olayinka Abioye directed their members to withdraw their services.
