... Very Hearty Birthday, Efio-Ita Nyok!
Negroid Haven|12 June 2016|12:40am

Today 12 June is the birthday of Mr Efio-Ita Nyok. Consequently, we wish him a very hearty birthday on this auspicious day!

Nyok is the first among three, Mr Enifon Nyok and Miss Eneanwan Nyok, being parented by Mr Gabriel Nyok Etim-Enifon of Anwan Enang-Ekpo Edem and Princess Edak both of Akpabuyo LGA in the southern senatorial district of Cross River State, Nigeria. He is therefore of Efik extraction particularly of the Ekpo Edem Royal House from his paternal lineage and the Ntiero Edem Effiom Ekpo Royal House from his maternity.
If Dr Timothy Lahaye’s temperament theory is anything to go by, Nyok is unarguably and primarily an extrovert. Albeit, when one give a closer consideration to the idea of temperament blends, it suffices to say that he has both extrovertish and introvertish blends. Specifically, it’s commonly said he is a super extrovert (sanguine) and a mild introvert (melancholy); thus,Nyok is, temperamentally inferring, a Sanguine-Melancholy (SanMel).
On the Horoscope, the 12th June-born is of the Gemini sign implying that ‘the outside world is what influences him most… Straying far from what most would consider the ordinary. While around others, your social abilities shine and your warm demeanor makes it nearly impossible for those around you to ignore your charm’. Again, the 12th June-born has Air as their element which imply curiosity and intellectual agility. Strikingly, the 12th June-born experiences an inherent ‘need to deviate and be original’ as well as possesses the ‘potential to be a charming leader’. Finally, the 12th June-born, career wise, is believed to have leadership qualities that impel him/her to be a humanitarian, community leader and an academic. His birthday twin is the American politician George Bush and writer Anne Frank. The preceding rendition fromfamousbirthdays.com, near perfectly describes Nyok.
Actually, while being a student activist, Nyok, was popularly referred to as the Controversial Senator and Unrepentant Critic. He is people-oriented (a humanitarian with a bent for the proletariat/masses) and is adjudged to have leadership qualities. For instance, he has been Class Representative in his tertiary education days; renowned student activist who, rose through the rank and file of being many things at many times to many students, to become a Representative at the Senate of the Students Union Government of the University of Calabar (2013/14) and an electoral committee member of National Association of Cross River State Students Worldwide (NACRISS WW)(2014/15). Also, he has been President of Government Technical College, Mayne Avenue, Calabar, Old Students Association (GOVTCOSA 2012/14); while during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year (2015-2016), he was Corpers’ Liaison Officer (CLO).
Nyok graduated with a Second Class (Hons) Upper Degree from the Department of Philosophy, University of Calabar, Calabar. His thesis was in Social and Political Philosophy employing the legendary Professor Innocent Asouzu’s indigenous Ibuanyidanda Philosophy to x-ray sociopolitical phenomena. It’s titled: The Political Relevance of Asouzu’s Phenomenon of Concealment where he posits that the primitive instinct of self preservation possess an intrinsic capacity to blind political actors into employing the strategic position of public office to primarily serve their selfish, ethnocentric, myopic etc interests. He suggested ideas on how such a dilemma could be resolved. He sits as founding member of Humanities Association of Nigerian Universities (HANU).

Nyok has an inclination for academics: he has two coauthored academic works, with Nelson Osuala and Joseph Odok to his credit, namely,
*The Nexus between Social Science and Ideology: A  Philosophical Contemplation published in the International Journal of Peace and Conflict Studies (IJPCS)
*Globalisation, Americanisation or Europeanisation: AnIbuanyidandaist Critique presented at The Premiere Edition of Faculty of Arts, University of Calabar, International Conference, hosted by Professor D. N. Oluwabugbemi-Jacob on 14 April 2016; he is presently co-inquiring into another subject with Ikakke Bassey, a cerebral Management Consultant on:
*Delineating Tony Elumelu’s Afrocapitalism: AnIbuanyidandaist Discourse, to be presented at the International Conference of Nigerian Philosophy Association (NPA), October 2016 at University of Uyo, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
Nyok‘s knack for writing has seen him authored an anthology of unpublished poems. He has written and published over a hundred articles, majority of which have contributed to defining the success of Negroidhaven.org. One of his most read articles is Re: Your Excellency Gov. Liyel Imoke, Calabar is Under Siege www.negroidhaven.org/2015/01/politics-re-your-excellency-gov-liyel.html?m=1 concerns raised in this singular publication still finds relevance in the socio-political clime of present day Cross River, Nigeria.
On the pursuit of what some call a higher purpose, Philosopher Nyok believes that he is designated to ‘SPEAKING the TRUTH to POWER as well as ACTING against the CONSTRAINTS that IGNORANCE secures‘. On achieving this vision, he has outlined six instruments, call them hobbies if you like, Speaking, Research, Writing, Singing, Business and Activism.
No doubt, as a finite human, Nyok has his weaknesses; however, as part of his evolution he is presently the Editor of Negroidhaven.org (Negroid Haven), a leading blog that publishes such information that the establishment have sworn to deprive the notice of the deserving public.
For Philosopher Nyok, ‘Love is the greatest course/purpose’. And by love he understands it to mean ‘that course that persistently and selflessly secures the interest of the opposite other’. For him, it is why God/gods is, humans are and every other thing that will be. Every other course —physical, spiritual and otherwise is ancillary to Love. That is to say, all human or superhuman activity, phenomenon, events, incidents, missions, etc whether in this realm or other existences find meaning in Love. Love is unifying or englobing. It is holistic not unitary. The negation to Love is Hatred. When Love unifies it is Good; Hatred in its divisive mode is Evil.

So, there shouldn’t be division. There should beunison. Call him a monist if you wish; however, in his monism he acknowledges constituent units of Love.Any move to objectify the unit over the opposite other or the englobing system of Love itself is Hatred, according to him. This is the Evil that is much talked-about.
Philosopher Nyok doesn’t see units, except that he sees it in the whole. Neither does he conceives the whole without constituents, in this context.
Particularly inferring, there is no Efik, or Atam; there is no southern Nigeria or northern Nigeria; there is no West Africa or Southern Africa; there is no Africa or Europe; there is no Global North or Global South; there is no Black race or White race; Roman Catholic or Protestant; Muslim or Christian; there is no Theist or Atheist; etc there is no Unit except it is recognized in the context of the Whole. In fact, ‘There is no unitexcept it is united, neither is there unison except it isunitary!’, Philosopher Nyok thunders.
Therefore, in a pan-Africanist thinking, PhilosopherNyok isn’t just Efik, Nigerian or theist; he is an African —Nyok the African or Nyokism better still. However, his Africanese is only highlighted in defining him as a human ultimately: ‘We —Negroid, Mongolian or Caucasian; theist , atheist or agnostic; poor class, middle class, or rich class; illiterate, semiliterate or literate; etc are all humans’, Nyok submits. Humanism is the greatest discipline and finds dimensions in the Humanities, Sciences and Technology, etc. Every human being is potentially a humanist.
Finally, Philosopher Nyok believes that Africa will be great again! He contends that, ‘It’s at the point of fruition of Africa’s anticipated economic, political and cultural rejuvenation, like we have in oriental and occidental countries that constitute the global north, that Love consummates itself’.

We wish Nyok the African née Nyokism a very hearty birthday celebration! We pray that God grant him the required span of life, soundness of mind/health as well as needed grace to ultimately actualise his pro-Humanist aspirations.
Congratulations Nyok OUR African!
