PROVO, Utah (TCN) — Police recently arrested a 53-year-old man on suspicion of killing his former girlfriend whose remains were found in a shed.
The Springville Police Department first posted a bulletin on Jan. 29, announcing that Lesa Hyde was last seen in late December. According to charging documents reviewed by KSL-TV, a man claiming to be Arthuro Carrion called 911 and said someone had killed his former girlfriend, Hyde, and her “body was hidden in a shed behind an apartment where Carrion was known to stay.”
Provo Police responded to the home on Feb. 23 to perform a welfare check and discovered a body in a detached shed. There were two metal sheds on the property, which Carrion claimed were owned by someone else and that he didn’t have access to a key, KSL reports. However, Carrion’s mother arrived and reportedly instructed her son to give police the keys.
When asked if they would find something in the shed, Carrion allegedly told police, “A dead body.” Authorities subsequently handcuffed him and opened the shed doors.
Charging documents say officers “went further into the shed, noticed the smell of decomposition, and saw a black nylon bag that looked like it had something large in it.” When they unzipped the bag, authorities allegedly discovered a human forearm. Investigators obtained a search warrant and went back in again and found the body of a woman.
According to charging documents, the woman’s body “had her hands bound behind her back with black wire,” and she had a black plastic bag over head, which was pulled with a thick strap around her neck. Although Provo Police did not say who the victim was, KSL reports that the medical examiner identified her as Hyde.
Hyde reportedly sustained bruising on her thighs, shoulders, arms, and chest, and her sternum was broken. Several teeth were also broken.
Police announced that Carrion was booked into the Utah County Jail on a charge of murder. Further charges are pending.
Hyde leaves behind two children, according to KSL.
