The Rachael Ifeoku Ike Scholarship scheme, a subsidiary of the Unubiko Foundation, has inducted 18 beneficiaries into the scheme.
Speaking during the induction on Sunday at Idima Primary School, the coordinator of the scheme and secretary of the Unubiko Scholarship Programme, Engr. Dr Okoro Christopher Kalu urged beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously.
He emphasised that education remains a powerful tool for personal and societal development.
Dr. Okoro, who is also the Rector of Ogbonnaya Polytechnic Aba, lauded the sponsor of the scheme, Chief Chijioke James Ume, who is also the founder of the Unubiko Foundation, for “giving hope to people who desire education but lack the means to realise their dreams.” “This is a legacy of service,” he pointed out.
Speaking further, Dr. Okoro, who also disclosed that the beneficiaries were carefully selected after passing through a series of rigorous processes, including an oral interview, informed that the beneficiaries will be given a total sum of N400,000 each every year for the duration of their studies in school.
He pointed out that the Unubiko Foundation, led by its founder, Chief Ume, is committed to ensuring that deserving students receive the necessary educational support to help them thrive.
He, however, advised the beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity to excel and achieve their dreams in life.
“This foundation is a yearly thing for them in which they will be given a total sum of N400,000 per year.
“The essence of the scholarship scheme is to make sure that they concentrate on their academics. So my advice to them is very simple: “concentrate, put in your best, be dedicated to duties, then aim high and not just high but extremely high and get the best.
“There is a mechanism, of course; we get to their departments, and there is a routine check on the progress of activities that are being done, so if you don’t perform well, of course you won’t expect us to continue sponsoring you, so at every session the students are expected to submit their academic performance in that particular session to enable them to have access to the funds in the coming session,” he concluded.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Miss. Kete Amara Roseline expressed gratitude for the rare opportunity given to them and thanked the foundation and the scholarship panel for finding them worthy to be selected, and promised that they will take their studies very seriously.
