UNIZIK: Police Arrest Suspected Cultists, Recover Guns

No fewer than two suspected cult members have been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command following security operations at the Unizik students’ off-campus community.

The state’s Police Commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu, disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday at the command in Awka.

According to Orutugu, the police surveillance team from the B Division, during a stop and search, intercepted a tricycle with three passengers and the driver.

The Wednesday operation further led to the arrest of one passenger after he was found with a locally made Beretta pistol.

The suspect, Somtochukwu Okoye, upon arrest, allegedly confessed to being a member of the Junior Viking secret cult.

He mentioned that the gun belonged to one Augustine Okafor, aka ABOY, who, according to the CP, is already in police custody over a case of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Similarly, on Thursday, operatives from the same B Division, while on stop and search along the student area, arrested one Richard Onwugbufo.

The officers also recovered a Beretta pistol with three live rounds of ammunition.

“All the suspects involved shall be charged in court on the conclusion of the investigation,” the CP said.

The suspects were a part of ten suspects arrested in the past two weeks by the state command.

The CP said the command’s operatives recovered ten arms of assorted brands, 16 expended cartridges and 46 live ammunition, four vehicles, and other incriminating items.

“Meanwhile, please note that three of the recovered cars have been released to the owners,” he said.
