Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is known to be a 2.5D platform brawler. This means that while the game uses 3D models and stages, the gameplay (mostly) happens on a 2D plane.
However, Poppt1 recently released a video showcasing a unique mod for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Thanks to the efforts of CSharp, it’s now apparently possible to play a 3D version of the platform brawler.
As one can probably imagine, this makes it more difficult for players to hit one another. If a character isn’t facing the right direction when performing an attack, the opponent can evade by simply moving along a different axis.
Some attacks, such as Pac-Man’s Fire Hydrant, have notably become less effective with each character’s newfound ability to explore an extra dimension. It’s demonstrated that a character can simply circle around the fire hydrant and not be impeded by it.
Mr. Game & Watch is a particularly nasty character to deal with in this environment since he’s naturally a 2D character. With just the right angle, Mr. Game & Watch can appear as just a thin black line.
