Eyam Abeng, President of the University of Cross River (UNICROSS) Alumni Association has been appointed as an Adviser on Special Duties and Media Relations to the President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, (TUC), Comrade Festus Osifo.
Recalled that about a fortnight ago, Osifo was overwhelmly voted as the President of TUC during its 12th Triennial National Delegate Conference, held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Recognizing the efforts of Abeng in his emergence, Osifo who also doubles as the national President of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, after his inauguration announced his appointment, noting that he needed his results-oriented attitude to help him deliver on his mandate.
Reacting, the elated Abeng said that even though his hands are full with other responsibilities, the opportunity to contribute and continue to learn from the TUC President was one that he can never turn down.
Abeng who is also the Chairman of PENGASSAN, Lagos zone noted that his rise and growth to become a prominent member of the Union couldn’t have been possible without the support of Osifo, hence, he was ready to take up any role to support and learn from him.
According to the him, “this government is our government. The President is from our affiliate union, so it behooves on us to do everything possible to ensure he succeeds.
“I want to thank the President for finding me worthy to work with him in this capacity. No doubt, my hands are full with so many responsibilities but I can never be too busy to submit myself to learning and supporting him where necessary.
“I want to assure him of my commitment and that of the entire Lagos zone of PENGASSAN to the success of his administration as TUC President. I’ve no doubt that his administration will bring so much innovation and leave indelible mark in the union”.
