The Senate of the University of Abuja has approved a revised academic calendar for the 2024/2025 session and scheduled the next convocation ceremony.
The approval was made during the Senate’s 187th regular meeting held on January 29, 2025, at the university’s main campus.
A statement released by the institution’s Acting Director, Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob, Wednesday night, stated that the meeting was attended by 192 members, both physically and virtually.
In another key resolution, the Senate elected Professor Abubakar Sadeeque Abba of the Department of Political Science as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
The Senate also passed a vote of confidence in the University’s Governing Council, led by AVM Sadiq Isma’ila Kaita, for its successful and transparent conduct of the Vice Chancellor’s selection process.
It also congratulated the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, and pledged its full support and cooperation in advancing the university’s vision and mission under her leadership.
However, the institution’s senate condemned the actions of certain individuals who have sought to tarnish the university’s reputation through falsehoods, calumny, and blackmail via the media.
It urged the university’s management to take disciplinary actions against any individual or group engaging in misconduct, illegality, or activities that undermine the institution’s integrity.
