Umueri, one of the host communities of Chinua Achebe International airport in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, has decried neglect of access road to the facility.
The community says, since the commissioning of the facility under the administration Chief Willie Obiano, the town has never benefitted meaningful from the Airport.
According to the Traditional ruler of the community, HRM Igwe Beneth Uzuchukwu Emeka (Okebo 11), who spoke on behalf of the community while briefing Journalists at his Palace, on Saturday, to mark this year 2025 Iwa-ji (New yam) festival, we are being neglected despite our huge contribution to the huge success of the Airport.

“The community under my watch donated a total of one thousand one (1001) acres of land to Anambra state government for the airport project, despite this kind gesture, the state government has refused to appreciate the community and our neighboring towns from Anambra east local government with access road to the facility.
“We always find it so difficult to access the airport whenever we fine it necessary. Our movement to the airport always take us hours before getting to the facility that is peacefully situated in our community.
“The state governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo has done a lot for Umueri and other communities in Anambra East Local Government Area including the rehabilitation of Umueri General Hospital that has been abandoned by past administrations for 80-years, but should also help us construct a link-road to the International airport and again build warehouses around the airport to boost social-economic activities in the area.
The people of Umueri community are strongly behind his administration and we will all ensure that he is reelected for a second term ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state. We are fully in support of him.
On the Iwa-ji (new yam) festival, the Monarch announced the governor as top dignitary expected as special guest to the occasion schedule for September 5th, 2025.
He also announced that Indomie Noddles has promised to clamour the event with free distribution of 1000 cartons of it product to vulnerable persons in the community.
