Ukraine 0-1 Poland: Blaszczykowski Fires Poland Into Round 16 Of #Euro2016

A solitary strike from Jakub Blaszczykowski was enough for Poland to secure a 1-0 win over Ukraine and seal the runners-up spot in Group C of Euro 2016 on Tuesday.

Despite having more of the game, Mykhaylo Fomenko’s troops fell victim to a strike from the Borussia Dortmund man – who accounted for Poland’s second goal of the tournament – in the 54th minute.

Arkadiusz Milik was at the heart of the move once more with his splendid ball into Ukraine’s box causing panic and allowing Blaszczykowski to finish splendidly into the top corner.

Despite their best efforts, Ukraine’s attempts to break down a stubborn Poland defence late on proved fruitless as the latter looked to counter at every opportunity, but there were no more goals in what finished an open encounter.

Poland progress to the knock-out rounds of a European Championship for the first time and will meet Switzerland on June 25 in Saint-Etienne, where they will hope to see Robert Lewandowski end his worrying goal drought.
