A tertiary medical institution seem to be in the news for the wrong reason. The crisis currently rocking the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, over who takes over from the current Director of Administration, Prof. Archibong Archibong has taken a new dimension as group, Concerned Staff of UCTH, CSOUCTH, has accused him of highhandedness and witchunting of his SUBORDINATE NEGROIDHAVEN can say.
Archibong is billed to retire in September 10 this year when he would have been 60 years.
The Group claimed that the DA, in his ploy to ensure that the most senior Director in his directorate doesn’t succeed him, has transferred him to Creek Town all in a bid to frustrate his becoming the new Director of Administration of the hospital.
In a release made available to newsmen in Calabar, Saturday they allegedly accused, Prof Archibong of surreptitiously transferring the Director of Human resources whom he never wanted to become he successor claiming that what he (Archibong) was in bad faith.
They argued that the DA, who was supposed to have proceeded on a terminal leave on June 10 in preparation for his retirement from service on September 10, 2019, should do so without further delay to void creating chaos, enmity among staff and cause confusion in the system.
The release partly read: “Prof. Archibong is disgruntled because he felt underutilized within the last few years and wants to punish the Director of Human Resources because he was more effective and efficient in terms of quality service delivery.
He wants to reinstate one Mr. BASSEY Akpan whom he was conniving with to pilfer diesel with and other lubricants as he plans to continue to harbor and protect his cronies with fake certificates. His plan which he has started executing by redeploying the Director of Human Resources to a moribund unit, where he will not be seen or heard,” they bemoaned.
They further accused the DA of damaging the administrative system of the hospital upgrading relations and cronies without following due process adding that he should not engage in reorganization of the Directorate until he retires.

When contacted, the DA, Prof. Archibong Archibong denied all allegation claiming they were baseless and unfounded as this has not broken the law in any way stressing that he will not condescend so low to remaining a day after his retirement.
He said : “Whatever they are saying is baseless and unfounded because I have not done anything contrary to the law. I have no intentions of staying a day longer as the Director of Administration, I cannot condescend so low to staying a day longer or coming back to the system as a contract staff.
“I am a lawyer and a Professor and I have a lot to contribute to the society and Nigeria at large, but I can tell you that I will exit the day I retire. I have not done anything wrong.
“It’s just a simple redeployment which is part of my duty to post people from unit to units and department to department. I did nothing in bad faith, I only carry out my duty as the Director of Administration,” he said.
