Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were evacuated from the official governor’s residence in Harrisburg after a fire broke out in what authorities are calling a suspected arson attack.
The incident occurred overnight on the first night of Passover, a holiday the governor and his family were observing at their residence, according to AP.
Pennsylvania State Police said they were alerted to the fire and responded quickly, safely evacuating the family.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was successfully extinguished by the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire.
Authorities confirmed that while the investigation remains ongoing, they are treating the incident as an act of arson.
Following the evacuation, Shapiro, viewed as a potential White House contender for the Democratic Party in 2028, said he and his family woke up at about 2 a.m. to bangs on the door from the Pennsylvania State Police after the fire broke out.
“Thank God no one was injured and the fire was extinguished,” he said.
The Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation and have announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
