Police officials say the two cousins, ages 9 and 11, were shot Monday night while playing at the Hilltop Playground on Dean St. near Saratoga Avenue in the Brownsville neighborhood in Brooklyn.

“Yet another senseless act of gun violence directed toward our most vulnerable youth.”, said Assistant Chief Scott Henderson of NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North.

Authorities believe two gunmen were responsible for the shooting due to investigators recovering shell casings in the park from two different caliber guns, officials said.

The 11-year-old girl was struck at least once in the back and the 9-year-old was shot in the right knee.

A relative rushed the injured girls to Brookdale Hospital in a private vehicle, cops said.
