Super Eagles duo of William Troost-Ekong, and Ademola Lookman have been nominated for the 2024 Africa men’s player of the year award.
The 10-man list was announced on CAF’s social media account on Thursday.
The current holder of the award, Victor Osimhen missed out on the list, and another Super Eagles star, Victor Boniface, who had a stellar season for Bayer Leverkusen also did not make the cut.
Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman enjoyed a successful season for club and country, starting with his impressive performances at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
The 27-year-old scored three goals, and recorded one assist for the Super Eagles in their run to the final of the competition.
He also singlehandedly won the 2024-24 Europa League trophy for Atalanta, with a match-winning hat-trick in the 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
He ended the 2023-24 season with 17 goals, and 10 assists in all competitions for Atalanta, while also becoming the first African player to score a hat-trick in the final of a major UEFA competition.
Super Eagles stand-in captain, William Troost-Ekong was nominated on the strength of his performances at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. The defender scored three goals in the competition, and was named the player of the competition.
Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra was also nominated following his strong showing for club and country,
Sehoru Guirassy of Guinea, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, DR Congo’s Chancel Mbemba, Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, Algeria’s Amine Gouiri, and Morocco’s Soufinane Rahimi made up the 10-man list for the men’s player of the year award.
