JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Left tackle Trent Williams will join wide receiver Deebo Samuel in returning from two-game abscesses, giving the 49ers (5-3) an offensive boost for today’s game against the red-hot Jaguars (6-2).
Williams looked surprisingly spry as he walked into EverBankStadium, after laboring through Thursday’s practice, which was his first action since a right-ankle sprain in the 49ers’ loss at Cleveland four weeks ago.
Williams was listed as questionable, as was linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle), the latter of whom is inactive.
Samuel was cleared off the injury list after practicing throughout the past week. He left that Oct. 15 loss at Cleveland in the first quarter, when he sustained a left-shoulder injury that was diagnosed a week later as a hairline fracture.
“You get Deebo back on the field, it helps. That changes everything. That changes the attitude when they take the football field with him,” Michael Irvin said on NFL Network’s NFL GameDay Morning.
YOUNG’S DEBUT
Chase Young will wear No. 92 as he makes his 49ers debut, after 3 1/2 seasons with Washington. Young was acquired Oct. 30 for a 2024 third-round draft pick ahead of the trade deadline. The 49ers also considered deals for Young’s Commanders teammate, Montez Sweat, as well as cornerbacks Pat Surtain II (Broncos) and Jaylon Johnson (Bears), according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

MARIUCCI’S TAKE
Former 49ers coach Steve Mariucci is excited to see Chase Young’s debut opposite Nick Bosa, but added that the onus is on quarterback Brock Purdy to reverse a late-game turnover trend.
“Those Buckeye bookends are going to be a factor, and Deebo is going to be another factor, but what has to happen is Brock Purdy has got to be back on playing like he was initially,” Mariucci said. “The Jags defense is a takeaway machine. They lead the league with 18. Brock Purdy, in his first starts when he was 10-0, he only turned it over three times. Now the last three games, he’s turned it over twice as many as that. He’s got to be more careful with the ball, get back to the way you played earlier, not take as many chances, and they’ll be fine.”
JAGUARS NOTES
C.J. Beathard, who went 2-10 as a 49ers starting quarterback from 2017-20, has made cameos in two games this seasons as the Jaguars’ backup to Trevor Lawrence.
Josh Allen has a team-high nine sacks, and one today will tie him with Yannick Ngakoue for second-most in franchise history (37 1/2).
The Jaguars are on a NFL-best five-game win streak, and they’ve won 11 of their past 13 regular-season games dating to last season. They’ve lost their past four meetings with the 49ers since winning the series’ first two games here in Jacksonville (41-3 in 1999, 10-9 in 2005).
