With a fifth place overall finish in the Premier League, Spurs are set for the Europa League next season alongside United, however their battle against each other has already begun.
The two teams are reported to be battling it out for the signature of one of Crystal Palace’s top talents, with Spurs currently having the edge on United.
After falling short of the Champions League qualification slots by two points, being narrowly beaten by Aston Villa to the fourth place finish, Spurs are looking to strengthen their squad going into next season.
It’s being reported by The Sun that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has identified Eberechi Eze as a key man on their list of targets for their first transfer window owning the club.
Unfortunately for the Red Devils, their are already a number of links between the England international and the London based club. Eze’s agents, CAA Base, have among their other clients, current spurs players Son Heung-Min and James Maddison, as well as their current manager Ange Postecoglou, meaning they could use their existing relations with the club to support a move for Eze to Spurs.
It’s also worth noting that Tottenham are one of the few financially stable clubs in the Premier League, allowing them to spend this summer with little worry around Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). United on the other hand would need to look at offloading some players first before being able to fork out on Eze, with the 25-year-old currently having a release clause of £60 million.
The interest in Eze comes from his fantastic run this season, making 27 Premier League appearances in the 2023/24 season ,grabbing eleven goals and four assists, whilst also being ruled out of some games with a muscle injury.
The attacking midfielder has done wonders for Palace since joining from QPR in 2020 for €17.8 million, racking up 124 appearances for the club across all competitions and scoring 26 goals with 17 assists.
With Eze being selected in the England squad to compete in the European Championships in Germany this month, he’ll no doubt want to continue his run of form and show why these top teams are fighting for his signature.
