  • Jada Pinkett Smith claims ‘soulmate’ Tupac Shakur also suffered from alopecia in the early 1990s but ‘didn’t talk about it’ due to societal pressures

    Jada Pinkett Smith claims

Jada Pinkett Smith has made another bombshell revelation about her ‘soulmate’ Tupac while promoting her memoir Worthy.

In a conversation with People about Tupac Shakur, she claimed the late All Eyez on Me rapper suffered from alopecia.

    Jada Pinkett Smith claims

‘I don’t think Tupac ever talked about the alopecia he suffered from,’ she said of the condition she also has.

‘After he was in Northern California with the police officers that beat him up, he started losing his hair. And his alopecia patterns were far more extreme than mine,’ The Red Table Talk host, 52, recalled.

Shakur later sued the Oakland Police Department and settled the case.

Smith, who suffers similar hair loss issues also said that the California Love hitmaker kept his condition a secret because of societal pressures.

‘I don’t think Pac ever talked about his alopecia, but he also looked really good with a bald head. But that was during a time and during an era that you wouldn’t — he just wouldn’t talk about it.’

The Girls Trip star met the rapper – who was murdered in 1996 – in high school at the Baltimore School for the Arts when they were both teenagers.

‘I’m sure if [Shakur] were alive today, he would’ speak out about his condition publicly, she added.

The Collateral actress went public with her own battle with alopecia in 2018.

‘I’m glad that I’ve had the opportunity and we’ll continue to have the opportunity to talk about how alopecia affects me,’ she said.

‘And I’m just hoping that it’ll give people the freedom to talk about how and just not have shame around it and not to have such a stigma. And there’s a lot of shame around alopecia.’

During an interview with Rolling Out, The Nutty Professor star talked about her friendship with Tupac and called him her ‘soulmate.’

‘If there is such a thing as past lives, I definitely think that Pac and I have traveled a few together,’ she said.

However, she clarified that they weren’t romantically involved because they had ‘no chemistry.’

‘It’s that friendship love chemistry,’ she said. ‘It was almost like God made us that way. It was like, look, I’m going to put y’all together, right? Y’all are going to be a dynamic duo.

‘But I’m going to tell you right now, I’m going to make it so y’all are not going to be able to get together ’cause that just wasn’t the purpose.’

  • We Have Not Suspended Impeachment Process Of Deputy Governor, Aiyedatiwa — Ondo Assembly Makes U-Turn

The Ondo State House of Assembly on Saturday made a U-turn and said it did not suspend the impeachment process of the state Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that the House halted impeachment proceedings against Lucky Aiyedatiwa, during its plenary session on Thursday.

The development was said to follow the refusal of the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola, to set up a panel to probe the embattled deputy governor.

The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Olatunji Oshati, who confirmed this on Friday, had said the House would abide by the order of the court, hence the suspension of the proceedings on the impeachment.

However, the house in a new release by its lawyer, Femi Emmanuel Emodamori, on Saturday reaffirmed that it had not “suspended” the impeachment process as reported.

The statement reads in part; “The House reaffirmed that it has not “suspended” the impeachment process as inaccurately reported, and will carry same through to a logical conclusion in order to determine the veracity or otherwise of the monumental allegations of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor.
“Impeachment is a constitutional process clearly outlined in section 188 (1)-(11) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and our Client has meticulously complied with all the stages leading up to the obligation placed on the State Chief Judge to set up a 7-man Panel to investigate the allegations, as stipulated in Section 188(5) of the Constitution.

“The notice of allegations of gross misconduct was signed by 11 members of the House and presented to its Speaker on 20th September, 2023 in strict compliance with Section 188(2) of the Constitution, which requires at least one-third of the 26 House members to sign and present the notice to the Speaker. That is the first stage in an impeachment process.

“The Speaker in turn served the notice  on the Deputy Governor on 25th September, 2023, and also caused same to be served on all the other members of the House, in strict compliance with the same Section 188(2) of the Constitution which requires him to do so within seven days. That was the second stage.

“The third stage, as stated in Section 188(3) of the Constitution, requires two-third majority of the members to pass a motion within 14 days after the notice of allegation(s) of gross misconduct was first presented to the Speaker, for the investigation of the allegation (s) and request the State Chief Judge  to set up the 7-man Panel to investigate same.

“Our Client meticulously complied with the said Section 188(3) of the Constitution. In fact, 23 out of its 26 members (more than the minimum two-third majority required) passed that motion on 3rd October, 2023.

“Section 188(5) of the Constitution further states that after the motion is passed by the two-third majority, the Speaker should formally request the State Chief Judge to set up the Seven-man Panel. The Speaker diligently complied with this on the same 3rd October when the motion was passed.

“It was at this stage that His Lordship, the Honourable Chief Judge of Ondo State, replied the House, stating that he received an ex parte Order which the Deputy-Governor secured from the Abuja Judicial Division of the Federal High Court on 26th September, 2023, ‘restraining’ his lordship from setting up the Panel, pending when the Court would hear all the parties in the case to determine the merit of the application or the case filed by the Deputy-Governor.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Section 188(10) of the Constitution clearly states that “The proceedings or determination of the House or Panel or any matter relating to such proceedings or determination shall not be questioned or entertained in any court”, and there are too many judgments of the highest courts in Nigeria affirming that no court has the jurisdiction to dabble into an impeachment process, as long as the House of Assembly complies with all the constitutional process.

“The Honourable Chief Judge himself stated in his widely reported reply to my Client,  that his lordship was not unmindful of the above provisions of Section 188(10) of the Constitution and even quoted it verbatim.

“His lordship however stated that as a Chief Judge, he would prefer that the ex parte Order, which his lordship believes “tied his hand”, should first be vacated or set aside. The Chief Judge obviously prefers to err on the side of caution.

“The position of our Client, therefore, and contrary to the inaccurate press report, is that in spite of their reservations about the position of the Honourable Chief Judge in the face of the clear provisions of Section 188(10) of the Constitution and the judgments of the  appellate courts stating that no court has the power to question or entertain any matter relating to the impeachment, they would, for now, show sufficient understanding of the delicate position the Hon. Chief Judge has found himself, by   promptly taking the necessary legal steps to vacate or quash the order and/or the entire suit at the Federal High Court, in order to untie  the hands of his lordship and proceed with the impeachment to a logical conclusion.

“The general public would recall that a similar suit instituted by the same Deputy Governor on the same subject matter at the Ondo State High Court was dismissed on 10th October, 2023 for constituting an abuse of Court process, following a preliminary objection which we filed on behalf of our Client,” the statement added.

  • Tinubu meets Gov Alia, sports minister in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu on Saturday met with the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He also met with the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, shortly after the governor briefed him on the state of affairs in Benue.

In a chat with State House correspondents at the meeting, Alia said the meeting with the president focused on the return of peace in Benue and the return of the internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands.

He said: “Since our assumption, we have tried to be proactive in ensuring security in the state. In collaboration with security agencies, we identified potential troublemakers.

“We know there are those who benefit from trouble and won’t allow peace in the land. But we came in peace and that is why the state is currently enjoying relative peace.”

On ranching, the governor said the state was being innovative about it because of its peculiarity as the food basket of the country.

He said the state would develop a system to provide fodders for the cattle even without the ranches.

Alia added: “As an agriculturally wealthy state, our idea is to take care of both the farmers and herders. The main reason for ranching is to give herds a conducive environment to flourish to their best potential.

“The farmers will provide nutritious fodder for the herds of cattle as well as make some revenue for themselves. So, you see the idea of ranching will be a win-win situation for us in the state.”

On his part, the minister said the visit was to update the president on activities at the ministry.

Enoh added that he had initiated a number of innovative ideas for sports development in the country.

“I have to state that we must move forward in sports development through the active participation of the private sector. That’s the practice worldwide and Nigeria must key into this.

“I intend to get approval for the offer of different types of incentives for any private sector player that adopts any sport in the country, especially those in the grassroots,” he stated.

The minister said he has no plan to tamper with the Super Eagles technical crew for now.

  • Lagos govt. to arraign 30 for environmental offences on Monday

The Lagos State government has arrested about 30 environmental offenders for improper waste disposal and disregarding the state’s environmental laws.

They will be arraigned before a magistrate’s court on Monday.

The environmental law enforcement team comprises officers from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI.

The offenders, apprehended in different locations, were said to be engaged in acts capable of defacing the environment and derailing efforts to entrench cleanliness in the metropolis.

According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, the arrest and subsequent prosecution of people engaged in indiscriminate waste disposal shows that it is no longer business as usual.

“The state government will not fold its hands and watch some elements derail efforts to maintain sanity in the city.

“Today’s action will serve as a deterrent and warning to others.

“The era of people hiding under the guise of darkness to dump waste at unauthorised locations is over; anyone caught will be prosecuted,” he told journalists.

He appealed to residents to acquire waste bins and regularly clean up their surroundings as the government plans to commence full environmental checks on homes and business premises.

The official reminded residents of their legal obligation towards a sustainable environment, which included acquiring covered waste bins, shunning reckless waste disposal and mandatory patronage of assigned private operators.

“Everyone must procure bins, engage with assigned private participants, refrain from indiscriminate waste disposal, maintain drains and clean the frontage of their establishments,” Mr Wahab said.

LAWMA managing director Muyiwa Gbadegesin, on his part, urged households to imbibe the habit of sorting their wastes at source.

“We are appealing to residents to avoid indiscriminate dumping of wastes in public spaces as it poses significant health and environmental hazards. Violators of environmental laws will face severe legal consequences,” Mr Gbadegesin said.

Snowden joined the Army in July 2020 after completing training at Fort Moore in Georgia, the Army said. He came to Fort Wainwright in 2021.

  • 50 Children Benefit As Nova Merchant Bank Sponsors Paediatric Surgeries At LASUTH

Nova Merchant Bank, a Nigerian financial institution, has extended support to children in need of medical attention.

The bank announced Sunday that it recently sponsored a Paediatric Surgical Intervention programme that impacted the lives of 50 indigent child patients at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

The initiative, which took place on Monday, September 18, 2023, was part of Nova Merchant Bank’s 2023 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programme under its UPLIFT initiative project.

In collaboration with the Association of Paediatric Surgeons of Nigeria (APSON), Nova Merchant Bank said the gesture was part of its commitment to community development and making a difference in society.

Mr Nath Ude, Managing Director of Nova Merchant Bank, shared the motivation behind the initiative, saying, “NOVA envisions a future in which millions of people have free or low-cost access to healthcare and where unnecessary pain caused by preventable illnesses and untimely fatalities can be mitigated. This intervention is a stride towards achieving this vision.

“No child should be deprived of their promising future due to a lack of healthcare accessibility.”

Professor Roland Osuoji, the President of APSON, also highlighted the significance of the intervention.

“In the past year, Lagos state heavily subsidized paediatric operations for children between the ages 0-12 which have resulted in a growing waiting list, stretching until 2025.

“This initiative not only reduces the backlog but also saves lives and offers hope to these deserving families,” stated Osuoji.

The patient selection process involved identifying children on the waiting list due to financial constraints, said Dr. Omolara Williams, the Local Organizing Committee Chairman of the medical outreach.

“We made every effort to contact as many of them as possible, and as a result, we now have patients ranging from 1 to 14 years old who will receive treatment for their Paediatric conditions through this intervention,” said Williams.

NOVA Merchant Bank Limited is an investment grade-rated merchant bank in Nigeria, offering an integrated suite of financial solutions encompassing Financial Intermediation, Wholesale and Investment Banking, Asset and Securities Management, Trade Services, Cash Management, Transaction, and Digital Banking.

Its partner, APSON, is the umbrella body of all paediatric surgeons in Nigeria dedicated to the treatment of surgical issues in children and training specialists in paediatric surgery.

  • Results Of Bayelsa, Kogi, Imo Governorship Elections To Be Uploaded on IReV Portal – INEC Chairman

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, says that the results for the Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi governorship elections will be uploaded on its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

Yakubu stated this while speaking with newsmen at Ward 009, LEA School, Ganaja Village, Ajaokuta LGA, Kogi. on Saturday

Yakubu was in the state to monitor the mock accreditation exercise, ahead of the Nov. 11 governorship election.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, he stated that the commission would follow the laws for accreditation and results collation during the states’ elections.

“The method is as provided by law, electronic accreditation, electronic upload of results on the IREV portal and that is why we are doing this mock.

“So, please disregard whatever was reported about what the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) was said to have said in Bayelsa. That’s going to be the procedure and it’s for that reason that I will advise you also for those who are registered on the IREV portal.

“That in the next two hours or so, go to the IREV portal and you will see the result of the mock accreditation from all three states. We are uploading, as we have done in previous elections,” Yakubu said.

On the issue of security concerns ahead of the elections in the three states, Yakubu said that the commission was already working with security agencies.

“Next week Friday there is going to be a high-level meeting in Abuja co-chair by myself and the National Security Adviser in which all the security chiefs will be present, no representation to discuss the issue of security.

“For the three states elections, we are on top of the situation in terms of security arrangement and security deployment,” he said.

On how INEC intend to control the crowd at PU 009 in Ganaja, Yakubu said that INEC was taking proactive measures to give voters a pleasant voting experience on Election Day.

He said that INEC chose the PU 009, LEA School, Ganaja Village because it is the largest and most densely populated in Nigeria PU with 13,000 registered voters.

He said that on election day, the Voter register would be broken down alphabetically by the voter surnames to speed up the voting process.

“After the election, the Commission will redistribute the voters to other approximate locations.

“But for now, we’ll have to conduct the elections with the number of registered voters in this polling unit.

“For that reason, we are deploying a minimum of eight BVAS machines on election day, Saturday, Nov. 11 for easy accreditation of voters,” he said.

  • PDP BoT demands Anyanwu’s resignation as national secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has demanded the resignation of the party’s national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

This followed his emergence as the PDP governorship candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.

The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) on Friday night declared that Anyanwu remains the party’s national secretary and governorship candidate in Imo State.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the NWC dismissed the claim that the national secretary had been relieved of his position.

However, in a letter dated October 12, and addressed to the PDP acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, the BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara argued that Anyanwu’s retention as national secretary despite his current status as the party’s governorship in Imo was not only morally wrong but at variance with the party’s constitution.

He, therefore, urged the NWC to order the national secretary’s resignation before the election.

The letter read: “It has recently come to the attention of the Board of Trustees (BOT) that the current Imo State Gubernatorial Candidate of our party, Senator Anyanwu, is still holding on to the Office of the National Secretary of the Party.

“Not only is this morally wrong as no one is allowed to hold dual positions, but also against the constitutional provision of our party which provides for a mandatory requirement of resignation for any party office holder who wishes to contest any elective position. Please see section 47 (5) of our constitution as amended.

“The usual practice is for him to have resigned earlier than now. However, in the wisdom of the NWC, he was allowed to continue in office till now.

“Nonetheless, the BOT, as the conscience of the party, has the constitutional authority to call to order any member of the party acting in a way contrary to the guiding principles of our party and this is one of them.

“It is therefore against the background of the above that the Board wishes to put on record and state categorically that the NWC should do the right thing by ensuring that the Imo State Gubernatorial Candidate resigns from office immediately and focus on the election which is less than 30 days away.”

  • Reps vow to ensure equity in FG employment

Rep. Idris Wase, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character, has pledged to ensure that government agencies’ composition mirrors the diversity of Nigeria.

Mr Wase made this promise during the committee’s inaugural meeting held in Abuja.

In a resolute commitment to uphold the principles of federal character and national unity, Mr Wase emphasised the committee’s unwavering dedication to overseeing the equitable distribution of employment opportunities across the nation.

He highlighted the committee’s strengthened position, backed by sound legislative support, enabling them to carry out their core mission effectively.

The legislator insisted that the FCC appear before the committee on October 17 to report on their efforts to ensure fair employment distribution.

Quoting section 14(3) of the constitution, Mr Wase stated: “The composition of the government of the federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria.

“This also includes the need to promote national unity and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few states.”

He frowned at a few ethnic or other sectional groups’ dominance in government or its agencies.

Mr Wase said the FCC’s role in monitoring compliance with the aforementioned constitutional provisions has not been as robust as it should be, according to section 14(4).

He also highlighted the composition of the FCC, which includes a chairman and a representative from each state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,
