SAN JOSE, Calif. (TCN) — Investigators recently identified a man who died in 2022 as a suspect in the fatal beating of a victim whose body was found outside a home nearly 30 years ago.
On July 16, 1997, the San Jose Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious man on Boynton Avenue and found 28-year-old Karen Gevorkov. Officers said he had been “brutally attacked” and died of blunt force trauma. Despite their efforts, investigators were unable to identify a suspect or make any arrests at the time.
Gevorkov was allegedly last seen alive on the evening of July 15, 1997, walking with a friend near Starbird Park. Police said the surviving friend told officials that he and Gevorkov were “approached by three men when one attacked them” with a bat. The witness wasn’t able to identify the suspects, but investigators named Victor Ferguson as a person of interest.
According to an April 14 news release from police, a breakthrough in the case came in 2024, when, with the help of advanced DNA testing, Ferguson’s DNA matched to the victim’s clothing, “providing conclusive evidence of his involvement in the crime.” Officers also said that in 2016, a former inmate had come forward in 1997, “providing information implicating Ferguson” in Gevorkov’s cold case death, but Ferguson was never formally interviewed.
Ferguson reportedly moved to Kansas after the attack and died in 2022.
Chief of Police Paul Joseph said, “While justice may be delayed, the victim is never forgotten.”
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan added, “Although the truth won’t bring him back, it brings answers and hopefully closure for a family who has been waiting for both for a long time now. I want to thank our police department for never giving up in the pursuit of justice — no matter how long it takes, we can all feel safer knowing that those who harm our community will always be found.”

Opp man killed in single-vehicle accident Monday morning
Published 2:57 pm Tuesday, April 15, 2025
An Opp man was killed in a single-vehicle car crash Monday morning.
Michael J. Wilson, 30, of Opp was found unresponsive and trapped inside a vehicle when first responders arrived at the scene of the crash on Perry Store Road.
According to the Opp Police Department, officers responded to a report of the accident at approximately 8:18 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 2004 GMC Yukon in a ditch on the west-bound sound of the road.
Officials with the Opp Fire Department and Haynes Ambulance Service also responded to the scene and used hydraulic rescue tools to gain entry to the vehicle and extricate Wilson, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officials said the preliminary investigation suggests the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree before coming to rest in the ditch.
The accident remains under investigation by the OPD. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency assisted at the scene.
British PM Starmer Purges Historical Artworks, Replaces w/ ‘Diverse’ Doodles
Starmer has removed 69 paintings of British royalty, Churchill and Shakespeare
Steve Watson | ModernityNews
British Prime Minister Kier Starmer has removed scores of historical artworks from 10 Downing Street and replaced them with objectively awful drawings in the name of ‘diversity’.
The works Starmer ordered pulled down as part of the cultural purge include portraits of William Shakespeare, Winston Churchill, William Ewart Gladstone, Margaret Thatcher, Sir Walter Raleigh, and past British monarchs including Elizabeth.
The leftist leader has replaced paintings of those historical figures with what can only be described as ugly doodles by ‘modern artists’.

Sir Keir Starmer was last night accused of being in thrall to ‘the wokerati’ after the full list of the paintings removed from No10 since he moved in was revealed.
Portraits of historic figures such as Elizabeth 1, Mary, Queen of Scots, Sir Walter Raleigh and William Shakespeare were among the 69 works of art ‘deinstalled’ from the Government Art Collection since the election.
The revelation comes after a long Freedom of Information battle with the Tories.
Among their replacements are Altar, a scene from the 2023 Falmouth Reggae Festival in Cornwall by Denzil Forrester.
Other paintings include All Things Being Equal, by the Nigerian abstract artist Nengi Omuku, which ’employs the human body as a medium to convey internal experiences’ by ‘using oil paint on strips of Sanyanan indigenous fabric from pre-colonial Nigeria‘.
Then there is Almond Clasp by the British-Ghanaian Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, who specialises in ‘brooding portraits of Black life’, and Still (III) by Christina Kimeze, who currently has an exhibition ‘inspired by the resurgence of roller skating in Black communities’.
10 Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister isn’t even open to the British public, so this move by Starmer isn’t even a virtue signalling stunt.
It’s presumably just because he can’t stand to be surrounded by British historical culture.

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (TCN) — A man has been convicted of kidnapping, raping, and killing a hiker on a popular trail in 2023.
On April 14, the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office announced that a jury found Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree rape, third-degree sexual offense, and kidnapping in connection with the death of Rachel Morin, a mother of five. The state intends to seek the maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder conviction.
According to prosecutors, on Aug. 5, 2023, Morin “spent her day as she often did.” She reportedly hung out with her children and boyfriend, went to work out, and then ran errands before taking a walk on the Ma & Pa trail, which witnesses said was “her peace,” and she “never could have predicted that on that day that she would never see or speak to her children again.”
Morin’s boyfriend reported her missing after she failed to return home, and her body was discovered off the trail the following day.
The state’s attorney’s office said that Martinez-Hernandez waited in the woods and then “brutally attacked” the victim, pulling her 150 feet from the main trail into the forest. Morin allegedly “fought for her life,” which was revealed through the health data on her phone and Apple Watch. Prosecutors argued that Martinez-Hernandez “viciously” beat, raped, and then killed Morin.
Investigators recovered DNA evidence from Morin’s body that ultimately matched the defendant’s DNA. Martinez-Hernandez reportedly claimed he had never been to Maryland, but witnesses and business records proved otherwise, revealing that he lived and worked in Bel Air at the time of the attack.
Police announced the arrest of Martinez-Hernandez on June 15, 2024. They said he was wanted in El Salvador on suspicion of murder but fled to the United States. The defendant is also accused of assaulting a 9-year-old girl and her mother during a home invasion in Los Angeles.
Investigators reportedly searched Martinez-Hernandez’s phone and found numerous photos and screenshots of Morin, as well as news coverage related to her death and searches of her name.

In an email sent to US Democratic party donor Jeffrey Leeds on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, former US Secretary of State and four-star general Colin Powell revealed information regarding the Israeli nuclear arsenal estimated at 200 weapons. The email was obtained by the hacking group DCLeaks and published on LobeLog, a foreign policy blog. Discussing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s March 2015 speech to Congress about the dangers posed by the Iranian nuclear deal, in an email he sent to Leeds, Powell wrote that he doubted the Iranian regime would use an atomic bomb even if it could get one, since “the boys in Tehran know Israel has 200 [nuclear warheads], all targeted on Tehran, and we have thousands.”

For reasons that are yet to be provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Israel has been permitted to advance its nuclear program largely with assistance from France, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Norway. Meanwhile, media coverage of the ongoing nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran, facilitated by Oman, tends to overlook the evident double standards at play. On one side, the United States and Israel demand that Iran dismantle its nuclear program, which would significantly diminish its deterrent capabilities. Conversely, there is no expectation for Israel to subject its relatively well-known nuclear weapons program to inspections by IAEA or to sign the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). A 2014 report from the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists indicates that Israel is estimated to have between 80 and 400 nuclear weapons, with the authors of the report suggesting that the actual number is nearer to 80. Powell’s email significantly increased that estimate, more than doubling it. Given his background as a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, his assertion of 200 nuclear weapons has been regarded as more credible than the estimates provided by news media reports.

During his speech at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum on Wednesday, Dec 11, 2024, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, spoke about tensions between Iran and Israel and referred to what he called “a nuclear weapons dimension,” and stated:
“On one side, the assumed presence of nuclear weapons looms in the background”, Grossi said of Israel. “On the other hand, the very real potential of nuclear proliferation is raising the stakes”

Israel’s nuclear program has contravened international law for decades, which should have disqualified the Hebrew State from receiving American support. But here we are… The influence of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is probably a key factor in why the United States and the IAEA have not compelled Israel to disclose details about its nuclear weapons program, a subject on which CNN’s Wolf Blitzer possesses considerable knowledge. Prior to his role in cable news, he served as a prominent propagandist for AIPAC. He remarked that:
“A widely held attitude among Israeli officials is that Israel can get away with the most outrageous things. There is a notion among many Israelis that their American counterparts are not too bright, that they can be ‘handled.”
The US and Iran’s constructive first round of nuclear talks appeared set to move from the Middle East to Rome, according to an Italian source and others. However, early Tuesday, Iran confirmed that the next meeting would again be held in Oman. The next meeting will follow a visit by Rafael Mariano Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency to Iran, scheduled for Wednesday, 16th April—Grossi will meet with Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and President Masoud Pezeshkian. This certainly presents a significant opportunity for Iran to once more address the issue of the double standards surrounding Israel’s Nuclear Weapon Program…

Clive Williams’s analysis for the Australian Institute of International Affairs…
Nuclear Double Standards in the Middle East
Israel has the world’s eighth-largest nuclear arsenal. US and Australian support has allowed Israel to avoid being held accountable for its nuclear weapons program.
For decades, US presidents have pledged not to talk about Israel’s nuclear arsenal despite pushing for non-proliferation in the region and tight containment of Iran’s ongoing nuclear research program. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif claimed earlier that year [2021] that Israel was carrying out a major expansion of its Dimona nuclear facility and accused Western leaders and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of hypocrisy for targeting Iran’s nuclear program but ignoring Israel’s. Unlike Iran, Israel is not a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) nor has it allowed IAEA inspectors to visit its nuclear weapon sites.
Israel has consistently denied having “introduced” nuclear weapons into the Middle East and has maintained a policy of nuclear ambiguity. This policy dates back to 1969, when US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger noted that Israel was allowed to buy US Phantom aircraft on condition that Israel “not to be the first to introduce nuclear weapons into the Near East.” Israel semantically interpreted “introduce” to mean that Israel could possess nuclear weapons if it did not test, deploy, or make them public. This continues to be Israel’s policy.
In 1986, Israeli nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu revealed details of Israel’s nuclear weapons program to the British media, undermining Israel’s ‘ambiguity’ position. Vanunu was subsequently abducted from Italy by Mossad and taken back to Israel, where he spent 18 years in prison, including more than 11 years in solitary confinement. He has since been jailed twice for breaching the terms of his parole, under which he is not allowed to talk to journalists or try to leave Israel.
The weapons-grade fissile material stocks in Israel are assumed to have originated from two sources. The first is through French assistance in the 1960s to establish the Negev Nuclear Research Centre near Dimona. Second, 300 kilograms of weapons-grade uranium were supposedly obtained in the late 1960s from a US naval propulsion reactor fuel fabrication plant.
The Soreq Nuclear Research Center in central Israel is also fuelled by uranium. IAEA inspectors are permitted to visit the site, but Israel is unable to import more highly enriched uranium to fuel the reactor because of its non-membership of the NPT.
The Washington-based Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation states that Israel is widely believed to possess 90 plutonium-based nuclear warheads and enough plutonium for 100-200 weapons. In 2016, former US Secretary of State Colin Powell reportedly assessed the Israeli arsenal at 200 nuclear weapons.
Having nuclear warheads is of little military or strategic value unless the keeper has the means to deliver them. Carnegie Moscow Center analysis suggests that the Israel Defense Forces currently possesses a nuclear triad of delivery systems based on tactical aircraft, mobile surface-to-surface missile systems, and diesel-electric submarines. Israel has several US aircraft types that could deliver a nuclear gravity bomb at a distance of up to 1,650 kilometres, and possibly further with aerial refuelling or aircraft modification. Israel is estimated to have about 30 aircraft-deliverable nuclear bombs.
Israel’s ballistic missiles are the Jericho II, with a range of 1,500-1,800 kilometres, and the Jericho III, with an estimated range of over 4,000 kilometres. The Iranian Natanz nuclear facility is 1,800 kilometres from Israel and the Fordow fuel enrichment plant about 2,000. As of January 2018, Israel was estimated to have up to 80 mobile launchers for its Jericho II and Jericho III missiles and about 50 nuclear warheads for these missiles.
The naval component of Israel’s nuclear triad consists of six German-made Dolphin-class diesel-electric submarines armed with cruise missiles capable of carrying either conventional or nuclear warheads. An estimated 30-40 nuclear weapons have been allocated to the submarines, with a possible missile delivery range of up to 1,500 kilometres.
Despite the 2020 Abraham Accords between Israel and four Arab states, Arab states remain committed to the Middle East becoming a nuclear weapons-free zone – a position which of course is intended to keep pressure on Israel to give up its nuclear weapons. In a more objective world, Israel would be made to account for its covert program, and at least encouraged to join the NPT and allow IAEA inspectors to visit all of its nuclear sites. But that’s not going to happen as long as the US and other Western countries, including Australia, are prepared to turn a blind eye to Israel’s nuclear arsenal. In 2016, the US and Israeli governments signed their third 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on military aid, covering FY2019 to FY2028. Under the terms of the MOU, the US pledged to provide – subject to Congressional appropriation – another $49 billion AUD in military aid to Israel.
The US Foreign Assistance Act and Arms Export Control Act actually prohibit US economic and military assistance to nuclear proliferators and countries that acquire nuclear weapons. However, a US president can override that prohibition in the US national interest. So far – mainly for US domestic political reasons – no US president has been prepared to prohibit US economic and military aid to Israel.

Russian foreign minister Lavrov has criticized Western nations for their double standards on sovereignty and decolonization
RT WORLD NEWS
The legacy of colonialism remains a key driver of instability across Africa, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Kommersant published on Monday.
He attributed much of the continent’s turmoil to borders drawn by departing colonial powers without regard for ethnic, cultural, and historical realities.
Lavrov argued that colonial map-making practices resulted in the fragmentation of ethnic groups across newly formed national borders. This led to “chaos,” he said, explaining that the colonial authorities drew maps “with a ruler” throughout the continent, dividing entire communities.
He cited the Tuareg people, who are now split between Algeria and Mali, as well as other groups such as the Tutsi and Hutu in Rwanda.
Despite the destabilizing impact of these borders, Lavrov noted that the African Union has made a decision not to revise them.
“Yes, they did leave such a legacy. The African Union, in its wisdom, decided that for now it is best to live within these borders, to find ways to reach agreements, and to build good-neighborly arrangements so that people – relatives – can cross borders freely,” Lavrov said.
He also noted the unfinished process of decolonization, stating that 17 territories in the world remain under the control of former colonial powers. A similar sentiment was expressed in 2019 by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who stated that “decolonization is one of the most significant chapters of the Organization’s history. But this story is still being written, as 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories remain.”
Lavrov went on to criticize those who condemn Russia’s actions on the pretext of defending the UN Charter, while ignoring UN General Assembly resolutions that call for the full decolonization of Africa.
“If you say that issues must be resolved in accordance with the UN Charter, then as a responsible party, approach this document in its entirety and in the interconnection of its principles,” he said.
In February, Russia proposed that the UN designate December 14 as an international day against colonialism. The proposal followed a December 2024 UN General Assembly resolution on the ‘Eradication of colonialism in all its forms and manifestations’.

Victor Davis Hanson among others has been wondering aloud and in print why, if tariffs are bad, do so many countries have them on U.S. products? He is right — tariffs are bad in that like any tax on a market they reduce trade and people trade with each other because both sides expect to benefit, and often, each side of a trade does gain. Or, as has been said about protection in general, it is when you do to yourself in peacetime what your enemies would do to you in wartime.
.
As an aside, if you tax anything, you get less of it. Government must raise funds via taxation even if the U.S. government raises too much money and wastes lot of it. If you raise funds taxing markets or exchange with tariffs or sales taxes, you reduce trade domestic or international. If you tax income, then you reduce income generation or work, investment in tools, and business formation. A case can be made for taxing markets rather than income, but that is an issue for another discussion.
.
.
The producers of a product, including both owners and workers, in protected industries gain, again even if society loses. So, producers often lobby governments to impose tariffs to protect their industry.
Thus, weak politicians around the world buckle under to groups that benefit from tariffs, hoping to get them as political allies and gain their votes in elections. These are concentrated benefits that only a few obtain, but the few really notice their gains. Sure, there are costs for society, but these costs are spread over many more people and the weak politician hopes they will not be felt as much nor cost them many, if any, votes.
Of course, in Donald Trump the U.S. has anything but a weak politician. So, what is he doing? He has said at various times he favors free trade, but that trade now is anything but free for U.S. goods. What he may be doing is providing cover for weak politicians around the globe. Mark Carney, the new prime minister of Canada, has not been able to stand up to the Canadian dairy farmers’ lobby, but he may well have to now, faced with the Trump tariffs. And he can say to the Canadian dairy farmers, “Don’t blame me, it’s that Trump guy.”
Over the next few months lots of weak politicians around the world may be forced to stand up to various tariff pressure groups in their countries, saying, “It’s not me, but that Trump guy.” If this comes to pass, President Trump may become the greatest free trader in world history. And if that comes to pass, as usual, he will get little to no credit for it.
