“Alexa, play “Welcome to New York.” The Big Apple has been welcoming some of the biggest stars and designers for New York Fashion Week. The event runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 13, and showcases collections from the spring-summer 2024 season.

Christian Siriano, Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet, and Ralph Lauren are just a few of the big names to present so far. Lauren made his first return to New York Fashion Week since 2019. Their front rows have been packed with stars. Jennifer Lopez, Gabrielle Union, Janet Jackson, Mindy Kaling, James Marsden, Cara Delevingne, Ariana DeBose, and Amanda Seyfried were just a few of the celebs present.

But it’s not just the movie and TV stars who’ve been serving up some serious style inspo this Fashion Week. Many social media stars have also been bringing their fashion A-game and attending the big shows. Sofia Richie, Lori Harvey, Olivia Culpo, Dylan Mulvaney, Tinx, Alix Earle, and Meredith Duxbury were among the influencers present. Of course, they make sure their millions of followers can scroll through all the fun and candid moments and capture content about everything from their OOTO to the looks on the runway.

Meet Michelle Chubb. She’s a model, activist, and public speaker. You might know her as Indigenous Baddie on social media. She’s all about bringing the spotlight to the beauty and challenges of Indigenous communities.

She’s a Swampy Cree member of the Bunibonibee Cree Nation. As Thanksgiving approached, she gave us a glimpse into how many Indigenous communities view the holiday. “A lot of us don’t respect it as an event to celebrate because of the history,” she said. She’s talking about the 1621 Thanksgiving feast narrative. It’s a story that’s been told by white voices for far too long.

It’s a story that leaves out some crucial details. Like how the cooperation between European colonists and Indigenous communities was short-lived. Or how it gave way to violence and massacres of Indigenous tribes in the years that followed.

Chubb also shared what it was like to grow up Indigenous. She talked about how we can all be more respectful of Indigenous communities. And she had a lot more to say.

“I grew up in the city, and I’d visit the reservation in the summer and winter,” she said. She noticed differences between city life and “res life.” There was a stark contrast in the care of the people. More resources were available in the city than on the reservation. Healthcare, for instance.

Food prices on the reservation or in remote areas were sky-high. So high that many people depended on hunting and fishing to survive. “I’ve seen that difference,” she said.

Growing up, she felt the media got it all wrong. After visiting the reservation, she’d return to the city feeling bad. She’d seen people on the reservation struggling to survive. She wanted to make a difference. But as a young girl, she didn’t know how to express that.

Then came TikTok. She saw an opportunity to use her platform to amplify the problems of her people. She spoke about big companies exploiting resources from Indigenous communities. She talked about the struggles Indigenous people face in the city.

She grew up in Winnipeg. News about missing Indigenous women was all too common. “What, again? This happened last week,” she’d think. As an Indigenous girl, she was scared. She didn’t want to be one of those missing people. So she amplified that issue too.

She believes the media and history books have misrepresented Indigenous people. They’ve told the white part of the story, not the whole history. She was never taught about residential schools or the buffalo massacre. She had to take a separate course in high school to learn about that.

She also shared personal experiences. Every Halloween, she’d be asked to dress up as Pocahontas. People would touch her hair without asking. She found that culturally different, especially during powwows.

She believes it’s all about educating ourselves. Especially about Indigenous culture. Because the media often portrays Indigenous people in ways that suit their narrative. In reality, Indigenous people are diverse and unique in their tribes and cultures.

– Influencer Ruby Franke has been charged with six felony counts of child abuse, and her husband Kevin Franke, through his lawyer Randy Kester, has spoken out, claiming he and Ruby have been living apart for over a year.
– Ruby and her business partner Jodi Hildebrandt were arrested after Ruby’s 12-year-old son was found climbing out of a window of Jodi’s home, appearing emaciated and with duct tape on his wrists and ankles.
– Ruby’s 10-year-old daughter was also found in a malnourished condition, and all of Ruby’s minor children have been taken into the care of Utah’s Division of Child and Family Services. Ruby’s three sisters have expressed their support for her arrest.

So, Ruby Franke’s in hot water. Charged with six felony counts of child abuse, no less. Her husband, he’s speaking out.

Kevin Franke, that’s his name. Through his lawyer, Randy Kester, he’s making claims. Claims that he and his wife, who was arrested on August 30 with her business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, have been living apart for over a year. He’s defending his parenting of their six kids.

Randy, the lawyer, he’s been talking. On Good Morning America, he said, “He is a good person, he’s very gentle. He’s a very gentle guy. And no one has ever made any allegations that he’s physically abused those kids or anyone else.”

In the wake of Ruby’s arrest, Kevin’s got his priorities straight. His kids. “He just wants to do what’s best for his kids,” Randy shared, “get them back, get them under his tutelage and his fathership and protect them.”

Kevin, he’s “distraught” about these allegations. How they’re affecting his family.

E! has tried to reach Ruby and Jodi’s legal representation for comment. No luck. No contact information. Previous attempts to reach them directly? Unsuccessful.

Now, Ruby and Jodi, they’re facing serious charges. Six counts of felony child abuse each, filed by the Washington County Attorney in Utah. Each count could mean up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

NBC News got hold of a probable cause affidavit. It says the two women were arrested after Ruby’s 12-year-old son was found climbing out of a window of Jodi’s home. The boy was emaciated, with open wounds and duct tape on his wrists and ankles. He went to a neighbor’s home for help, “asking for food and water.”

Ruby’s 10-year-old daughter was found in a similar condition at Jodi’s home. The children were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Ruby’s other two minor children still living at home were taken into the care of Utah’s Division of Child and Family Services. She also has two adult children, who no longer live with her.

Ruby’s three sisters, Ellie Mecham, Bonnie Hoellein, and Julie Deru, they’ve spoken out. They’ve shared a statement in support of her arrest.

“For the last 3 years we have kept quiet on the subject of Ruby Franke for the sake of her children,” they wrote in a joint statement shared to their Instagram accounts on Aug. 31. “Behind the public scene, we have done everything to try and make sure the kids were safe. We wouldn’t feel right about moving forward with regular content without addressing the most recent events. Once we do, we will not be commenting on it any further.”
