  • President Tinubu Needs To Urgently Tell Nigerians His True Name, Academic Records And Save Nigeria From Global Embarrassment – Peter Obi

The Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to tell Nigerians his true name and clear the air over the controversy around his academic certificates.

The former governor of Anambra State said this on Tuesday in a press conference in Abuja and asked Tinubu to provide clear details about the schools he attended, whether he participated in the National Youth Service Corps, and if he changed his name at any point.

“Mr Tinubu should tell the nation his true name, the school he attended, where he served, and the certificate he obtained. He must do this task once and now,” Obi said.

“The controversy is unnecessary just as the implicit global embarrassment could have been avoided. In my opinion, Chief Bola Tinubu should have saved the nation and himself this protracted embarrassment and undue anxiety.

“Even this late in the day, however, Chief Bola Tinubu still owes the nation and the world a simple debt of obligation which only he can discharge. I call on him to immediately and personally mount the rostrum of his present high office to perform a simple task once and for all time.

“He should re-introduce himself to the nation he governs and to the world for the avoidance of further doubt,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor said President Tinubu should let the world know his name, his place of birth, his parentage, the primary and secondary schools he attended with dates as well as the actual universities he attended and certificates obtained and should indicate clearly where and when he did his National Youth Service.

He said, “In addition, if at any time he has had a change of name, he should clearly state so and the circumstances. That, in itself, is no crime. This simple task should take no more than a few minutes. It requires no affidavits, prolonged court processes, spokespersons, agents or surrogates.

“This task is one which only Chief Bola Tinubu himself through a direct personal statement can perform. He must perform this task urgently in order to lay to rest, once and for the last time, the many lingering doubts and valid speculations about his true identity.”

Obi who is currently challenging President Tinubu’s victory at the Supreme Court, said a leader cannot outsource a clear unambiguous personal statement about his identity to political surrogates, official spokespersons, lawyers or any other persons no matter how highly placed.

He insisted that a matter of the personal identity of a leader is too sensitive and central to the functions of the office he currently occupies to be trifled with, outsourced or disguised under the cloak of officialdom, as it is also about integrity, morality, values and the rule of law that defines the character of the Nation and its people.

“In his present capacity as a leader of a nation of over 200m Nigerians, his true identity is a matter of grave national and international interest. The people deserve to know with certainty the true identity of their leader and this overrides whatever rights he may have to personal privacy. In addition, the international community deserves to know the true identity of the person with whom they will engage on Nigeria.

“Having stood for an election to the elevated public office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Bola Tinubu has implicitly undertaken to cede the rights of a private citizen in favour of a life of open disclosure of his true identity, and other circumstances that may be of public interest.

“His personal integrity demands no less. The legitimacy of the office he currently occupies demands that much and even more. Respect for the integrity and esteem of the Nigerian nation within the community of nations makes it even more incumbent and compulsory. It is time to do the right thing,” Obi said.

  • PDP alleges INEC allocated votes to Gov Sule in Nasarawa election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa on Wednesday accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of allocating votes to Governor Abdullahi Sule in the March 18 governorship election in the state.

The state’s governorship election petition tribunal headed by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi on October 2 nullified Sule’s victory in the election and declared David Ombugadu of the PDP as the duly elected governor of the state.

In its announcement on March 20, INEC said Sule scored 347,209 votes while his PDP rival got 283,016 votes in the exercise.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Hamza, the party challenged INEC to tell the people of Nasarawa how it arrived at the number of votes allocated to the governor.

The party recalled that the majority judgment of the tribunal invalidated the commission’s declaration of Sule as the winner of the election.

He stressed the need for INEC to clarify the alleged discrepancy in the vote count during the election.

The statement read: “In his minority judgment, Hon. Justice Ibrahim Mashi ruled that Sule scored only 295,402 votes as against the inflated votes of 347,209 freely given to him by INEC.

“The same minority judgment said Ombugadu scored 291, 603 as against the suppressed votes of 283,016 allocated to him by INEC.

“The question begging for answer is where did INEC get the 51,807 votes margin it generously allocated to Sule and returned him as the elected governor of Nasarawa State based on the ruling of the same minority judgment?.”

  • NBC sends social media regulation bill to NASS

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has sent a social media regulation bill to the National Assembly seeking to repeal and reenact the NBC act, CAP L11 laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004.

Director-General of the NBC, Balarabe Ilelah, who played host to Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, said the bill will correct the ills associated with social media which he described as a “monster” in the society.

The agency DG said the current law guiding social media in the country does not give the NBC the right to regulate social media.

“We want to tell you that a bill for an act to repeal and amend the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) act, CAP L11 laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004, to accommodate the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting service, also to promote quality audio and video, efficient management of the spectrum, Nigeria Broadcast Institute, social media regulation and related matters has been read for the first time on the floor of the National Assembly,” Ilelah said.

“All these that are mentioned are not captured in the present act of the commission. We have already submitted a bill to amend the act.

“One of our major problems now is social media. Unless there is a law that allows NBC to act on social media issues, the issue will continue to be a monster in our daily lives in this country.”

Commenting on what many Nigerians term as the strong arm of the agency on media outfits in the country, the DG said that the commission had the right to punish any broadcaster in line with the act establishing NBC.

“We have powers, we derive our powers from the act, and we have the powers to sanction stations. We don’t want to sanction, we prefer to bring them together for negotiation, for understanding,” he said.

“We only apply sanctions when there is no way out of it. We don’t want the stations or the stakeholders to see NBC as an enemy. If you mention NBC anywhere, the first impression is sanctions.

“In 2023, a total of 1,238 warnings were given, while during the same year, six different stations were penalised.”

While reacting to the development, Idris said the NBC should work with the media so they do not see the commission as “punitive”.

  • Actress Julia Fox claims her split from Kanye West led to her missing out on a lucrative $1million deal with a denim brand

Actress Julia Fox claims her split from Kanye West led to her missing out on a lucrative $1million deal withadenimbrand

Julia Fox has claimed her break-up with Kanye West led to her missing a lucrative fashion deal.

In another revelation from her memoir Down the Drain, the Uncut Gems actress writes how the rapper helped her secure a million-dollar deal with an Italian denim label.

Kanye suggested the collaboration in the early days of their romance in January 2022, according to Julia.

She writes that Kanye, who she refers to as ‘The Artist’ throughout the book promised to secure her a ‘million-dollar deal’.

‘The next day, he puts me in touch with an Italian denim company and they start negotiating on my behalf,’ she continues. ‘I can’t believe this is my life, but I can definitely get used to it.’

The pair went on to famously wear matching denim ensembles for Paris Couture Week in January.

But with her subsequent split from Kanye, the deal fell apart. Julia explained how she moments after she asked her publicist to tell the media about their split, she learned the deal was off.

‘It’s contingent on you being his girlfriend,’ Julia says she was told.

The book contains many revelations about her brief courtship with Kanye in early 2022, including the claim that he offered to pay for a boob job during a game of Uno.

She wrote that the pair had been hanging out in a hotel room when the 46-year-old music artist made the shocking proposal.

And in a recent interview with  The Los Angeles Times, Julia spoke about it further.

Although she said she ‘really understood him on a visceral level’ and believed their pairing ‘could be something real,’ Julia said Kanye did not treat her the way she expected. ‘I just felt like his little puppet,’ she explained.

‘I know for a fact I’ve been up for certain things and couldn’t do it because of dating Kanye. It’s kind of wild,’ she told the publication.
