  • INTERVIEW: My Social Media Evangelism Is Transforming Lives – Philip Levi

Founder, Levites WATCH TV, Philip Levi

Philip Levi is one of the frontline Christian content creators on social media in Nigeria.

He is the founder of the Levites WATCH TV.

In this interview with THE WHISTLER, he talks about content creation for starters, copyright laws, and associated challenges.

    Excerpts

    Can You Introduce Yourself Sir?

My name is Philip Levi, I am graduate of the Department of Philosophy, University of Uyo, Nigeria, a content creator, and the founder of Levites WATCH TV.

What Motivated You To Be Christian Content Creator ?

What motivated me is my love for God and the desire to see and have believers online filled with the word of God that makes them succeed in life and make heaven at last.

Who And What Has Been Your Biggest Motivation/Mentor In Content Creation ?

Apostle Joshua Selman – I listened to one of his messages in 2019 titled “Thine Kingdom Come”.

There, he taught on “The Seven Mountains”. That would be my first time hearing a message like that teaching believers to rise as ambassadors of Christ on those mountains of which “Media” was one of them, and it was that day God spoke to me that He needed me to represent Christ on the mountain of media.

That was how my media journey began.

My advice would be that content creators should do their best to have approvals from the ministry or organizations whose content they intend to upload on social media or ensure at least that the content they intend to upload and the way they upload that content falls under fair use or creative commons.

Also, content creators should prioritize compliance with copyright laws by creating original content, obtaining proper licenses for third-party material, attributing sources, respecting fair use guidelines, monitoring their content for unauthorized use, considering copyright registration, and seeking legal advice when needed.

By understanding copyright basics, respecting intellectual property rights, and following best practices, content creators can protect their work and avoid infringement.

Lastly, they should ensure that the content they upload complies with the copyright laws of the social media platform(s) they intend to upload it on.

How Has Content Creation Helped In Spreading The Gospel ?

Daily! By the grace of God through content creation, I reach over 100,000 people on the internet.

I have been taught by Apostle Joshua Selman, and I have learned by experience that there are so many people we may never be able to reach if we depend only on one-on-one evangelism.

Through media, by the grace of God, I have posted content that has reached over two million people in not up to two weeks.

This is how powerful content creation is, I may never be people able to reach such amount of people in such a short time physically with the Gospel, but through media and by the grace of God I have been able to achieve this and more.

What Feedback Have You Received From Over 2 Million People Who Have Watched Your Content?

I’ve received so many messages from people including public figures, thanking me, and encouraging me to keep doing what I’m doing by the grace of God, and that I’m blessing and transforming their lives.

What Are The Challenges Facing Christian Content Creation And What Are The Solutions?

One major challenge I have seen that most Christian content creators face is the monetization of their social media platforms. Some have gone so far as to monetize their platforms; they mix up messages of men of God, and add very controversial and sometimes disgusting titles even at the expense of the reputation of the man of God just to go viral and make money from the content.

    This is not the way.

It is true that we need money to consistently dish out content, but God has a strategy for the financing of each one of us, and I truly believe that the solution is to go back to God who sent you to create Gospel contents and ask for the strategy for your financing.

Have You Found Fulfilment In Content Creation? If Yes, What Is Your Advice To Those Starting Content Creation?

Yes, I have found fulfillment in creating Gospel contents, and if this is all God will have me do for the rest of my life, I will do so joyfully seeing that lives are saved, blessed, and transformed.

My advice for startups in Gospel content creation is: Love God, seek to make an impact in the lives of people, be creative and excellent in creating your contents while asking God early for the strategy for your financing.

  • Move to impeach Shaibu heats up as CJ constitutes panel to investigate Dep gov

The Edo State impeachment saga has gone a step forward with the Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, constituting a seven-member panel to investigate Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

This follows a resolution passed by the State House of Assembly on March 19, 2024.

The Assembly had accused Shaibu of “gross misconduct,” including perjury and leaking government secrets. Following attempts to serve Shaibu with the impeachment notice, the Assembly directed the Chief Judge to form the investigative panel.

Shaibu had previously denied the allegations against him.

Justice Okungbowa has now constituted a seven-man panel to investigate the allegations levelled against Shaibu, by the state House of Assembly.

This is part of the processes initiated by the assembly to impeach the deputy governor.

The panel’s constitution. was made know on Friday via a statement, with reference number: CR/4837 /Vol. I/131, endorsed by the Chief Registrar of the Edo State High Court, B. O. Osawaru.

According to the statement, the panel is headed by a retired judge, Justice S.A. Omonua.

In the statement, the Chief Registrar stated that the CJ was acting in accordance with the powers vested on him by Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution.

The statement read, “This is to bring to the notice of the general public that in line with Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Honourable Chief Judge of Edo State, Honourable Justice D. I. Okungbowa, has constituted the panel of seven persons to investigate the allegations contained in the impeachment notice against the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu.

“The said panel of seven persons is comprised of the following persons: Hon. Justice S.A. Omonua (retd.) – Chairman, Professor Violet Aigbokhaebo- member, Professor Boniface Onomion Edegbai -member, Professor Theresa Akpoghome – member, Oghogho Ayodele Oviasu – member, Andrew Oliha- member and Idris Abdulkareen- member.”

This development marks a significant escalation in the political rift between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki. The specific details of the accusations and the evidence presented remain unclear.

Shaibu retains the right to defend himself before the panel. The outcome of the investigation will be crucial in determining whether the impeachment proceedings continue. If the panel finds merit in the allegations, the Assembly could then vote on whether to remove Shaibu from office.

This situation is likely to be closely monitored in the coming weeks as Nigerians await the panel’s findings and the potential next steps in the Edo State impeachment drama.

  • ‘N6bn Ramadan Feeding’: APC Tackles Kano Gov, Demands Proof Of Spending

    Governor-Abba-Kabir-Yusuf-of-Kano-State-

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has called on the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)-led government to provide evidence of how the N6 billion allegedly allocated for the Ramadan feeding programme was spent.

At the flag-off ceremony for palliative distribution to APC leaders and supporters in Dawakin Kudu on Saturday, the APC State Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, challenged the state government to substantiate its claim of spending N6 billion on the Ramadan feeding initiative.

Abbas described the government’s programme as a “sham” and urged the state government to demonstrate transparency by accounting for the expenditure of the allocated funds.

He emphasized the need for accountability, especially in light of the prevailing economic challenges.

“We know that the Federal Government, BUA and Dangote groups have provided palliatives, so let them (Kano State Government) show evidence that they have spent the said amount on the feeding programme.

“The grains we are distributing to our supporters were purchased through contribution by ourselves as we don’t have a government in the state,” Abbas said.

According to Abbas, the grains distributed were procured through self-generated funds, citing lack of substantial governmental support in the state.

He added that those who contributed include; Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, two state ministers, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and Abbas himself amongst others. He underscored the collaborative effort within the party ranks.

Malam Muhammad Garba, who represented Ganduje, said the humanitarian intent behind the palliative distribution was aimed at alleviating economic burdens during the holy month of Ramadan.

Garba lauded the APC national chairman for spearheading the initiative, emphasizing solidarity and support for party members and leaders across Kano’s 484 wards.

“We felt it is necessary to support our party supporters and leaders across the 484 wards, especially during this Ramadan period since we’re in a privileged position,” he said.

The Kano State Government recently inaugurated a committee to oversee the feeding of residents during the Ramadan period.

The state Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, who inaugurated the committee, said the free feeding programme was aimed at assisting all residents of the state, especially the poor with food during the period.

He said the committee had been mandated to ensure the effective distribution of the food across all designated feeding centres in the state.

  • NDLEA alerts citizens, says scammers on prowl impersonating its agents

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is alerting Nigerians about a rise in scams involving individuals impersonating NDLEA officers.

The agency issued a statement on Friday, urging the public to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to these deceptive tactics.

This was made known in a statement by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, shared on the agency’s website on Saturday.

The statement said, “The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency wishes to alert members of the public especially those who have loved ones abroad to a new scheme by scammers who impersonate NDLEA officers and call unsuspecting citizens to inform them of the arrest of their relatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Ikeja Lagos or any other international airport in Nigeria with illicit drugs upon arrival in the country.

“After throwing the family members into panic, the scammers then make a demand of millions of naira to facilitate the release of such persons from NDLEA custody. We have thwarted a number of such bids in the past when the family members called the agency’s official contacts for help or clarification.”

The scam reportedly targets citizens, particularly those with loved ones abroad. Fraudsters make contact, often by phone, and inform unsuspecting individuals that their relatives have been arrested for drug-related offenses. The scammers may then demand money or other valuables in exchange for leniency or release.

The statement emphasized that the agency “does not solicit payments or engage in any undercover operations that involve extorting money from people.”

He advised Nigerians to verify any claims of arrest directly with the NDLEA by contacting their local office or national headquarters.

“Nigerians with loved ones abroad are also urged to keep discussions on travel plans of their relatives to themselves to avoid the hijack of such by criminal elements for devious schemes.

”For those who may have a similar challenge, please feel free to seek help or clarification through any of our contact lines,” the statement reads.

The statement also outlined steps individuals can take to protect themselves:

    • Do not share personal information or financial details over the phone.
    • Verify the caller’s identity. Request an official identification number and confirm it with the NDLEA.
    • Report any suspicious calls or messages to the NDLEA.

  • Days After Killing Of 16 Soldiers, Six Policemen Killed, Others Missing In Fresh Ambush In Delta

Few days after 16 Soldiers were ambushed and killed in Delta State, six policemen have also been ambushed and killed according to the statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi.

The latest killing is coming barely a week after 16 officers and men of the Nigerian Army were killed in an ambush in Okuama community in the state.

Muyiwa, in a statement on Saturday also said six others have gone missing while five persons have been arrested in connection to the incident.

He said they were ambushed by kidnappers/criminals in Ohoro forest.

“The bodies of six of the slain officers have been recovered after a fierce search conducted by a combined team of police officers and other security outfits.

“The Force is focussed on the search for the other six officers; while all their families have been duly contacted,” the Police authorities said.

Adejobi gave their names of the deceased officers as Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT), enlisted on 1st August, 2003; Inspector Friday Irorere (51 PMF) enlisted on 1st January, 2003; Sergeant Kuden Elisha (51 PMF) enlisted on 17th October, 2011; Sergeant Akpan Aniette (51 PMF) enlisted on 17th October, 2011; Sergeant Ayere Paul (IRT) enlisted on 17th October, 2011; and Sergeant Ejemito Friday (51 PMF) enlisted on 17th October, 2011.

The sixth is Sergeant Cyril Okorie (SWAT) enlisted 17th October, 2011.

The statement said, the Inspector General of Police has “mandated the deployment of all necessary resources and personnel to apprehend those responsible for this senseless killing of our officers,” following the attack.

He also said some people have been arrested. “This has led to the arrest of five suspects in connection with the preceding incident and the killing. They are currently volunteering information necessary for the rounding up of all the perpetrators.”

The statement read in part, “The Nigerian Police Force is profoundly saddened by the devastating loss of six courageous officers in Delta State, who exhibited exceptional valour in the face of adversity.

“These brave officers tragically fell victim to a cowardly ambush by armed assailants. They were undertaking a mission to investigate the disappearance and rescue of three of their colleagues in the Ohoro Forest, Delta State, while six others are currently missing-in-action.

“Our hearts extend to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers during this period of profound sorrow.

“We stand in solidarity with them, offering our deepest condolences and earnestly praying for the peaceful repose of the departed souls.

“Furthermore, the Nigeria Police Force is committed to honouring the memory of our fallen heroes by recognizing their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice.

“In accordance with this commitment, the Force will posthumously honour the slain officers for their noble service and ultimate sacrifice at the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony scheduled for April 5th, 2024 in Abuja.

“In response to this grievous loss, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has taken decisive actions as expected.

“Additionally, the Inspector General of Police has mandated the expedited processing and payment of all entitlements due to the families of the fallen officers, aiming to alleviate any financial burdens they may encounter in this challenging time.

“Similarly, immediate measures have been initiated to ensure that justice is served swiftly and the perpetrators of this abhorrent crime are brought to justice.

“The Inspector General of Police has mandated the deployment of all necessary resources and personnel to apprehend those responsible for this senseless killing of our officers.

“It is paramount to underscore that contrary to perceived notions in some quarters, the Nigeria Police Force is committed to responding decisively to the loss of its officers and men as a result of the many unforeseen hazards associated with our job due to the dynamics of crimes and criminality globally.

“Recent incidents, such as the murder of SP Angbashim in Rivers State, where the perpetrators have been painstakingly traced to their hideout and decimated during the exchange of gunfire with gallant operatives of the Force is a vital pointer.

“Notable also is the swift and robust response to the attack on the Police Command Headquarters in Adamawa State where one Inspector Jacob Daniel was gruesomely murdered, which was followed by a visit to Adamawa State by the IGP, and timeous response by Mr. President upon being briefed.

“Equally, efforts were intensified in that regard to seek redress and ensure sanctions for the attackers.

“The Nigeria Police Force unequivocally condemns any further assaults on Police Officers and other law enforcement personnel who selflessly dedicate themselves to safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.

“He reiterated the NPF’s dedication to upholding law and order, and urged officers to remain resolute in the discharge of their lawful duties, undeterred by such cowardly acts.”
