  • Kuriga Teacher Died In Captivity, 137 Abducted Schoolchildren Rescued — Gov Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani

The Kaduna State Government has disclosed that the teacher who was abducted along with 137 Kuriga schoolchildren on March 7, died in captivity.

Governor Uba Sani revealed this on Sunday while speaking on the situation of the Kuriga kidnap and rescue operation, on the Channels Television’s Programme, ‘Politics Today’.

Sani said, “It’s only one person that has not returned, and that is the teacher. That is the fact of the matter, but all of the 137 children are safely back.

“We had the unfortunate incident that the teacher couldn’t make it because he had some complications; he was sick — that was the report we got from the military and the security agencies but the rest of the children, all of them are back with us.”

THE WHISTLER reported the release of the schoolchildren earlier on Sunday after they were abducted on March 7, while participating in their morning Assembly exercise.

The authorities of the primary and secondary school, sharing the same compound, stated at the time of the incident that a total of 312 schoolchildren, including a teacher were missing.

Subsequently, the school authorities revealed that 25 schoolchildren had returned home, leaving 287 purportedly missing.

However, the Nigerian military, who led the rescue operation in collaboration with local authorities from neighbouring Zamfara State, clarified on Sunday, that the abducted schoolchildren were 137 and not 287.

As of press time, the rescued schoolchildren have arrived in Kaduna and are reportedly receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed medical facility.

  • Sorry to the men that will marry some of you women

Sorry to the men that will marry some of you women - Solomon Buchi tackles lady who spoke against Pastor Funke Adejumo?s teaching

Self-acclaimed life coach, Solomon Buchi, has tackled a lady who kicked against Pastor Funke Adejumo’s teaching on how single ladies must behave when visiting their would-be parents-in-law for the first time.

    Reacting to Adejumo’s teaching, an X user @faree_for_real, said;

‘’If I’m going to visit your parents and they test me with these weird rules, just know I’m going to deliberately fail. I’m not willing to go through lengths to prove that I’m “prim and proper”. I’m not willing to be held on misogynistic standards. If the fact that their son loves me is not enough, I’m not interested.”

Sorry to the men that will marry some of you women - Solomon Buchi tackles lady who spoke against Pastor Funke Adejumo?s teaching

Solomon spotted her tweet and was irritated that she likened the teaching to Misogyny. He argued that all the clergywoman said was just basic life rules that people should follow. He went on to say he feels sorry for the men who will marry women with such mentality.

‘’Shut up! I am absolutely tired of how women plaster misogyny on everything. That video is basically talking about social decorum, comportment and etiquette in the culture of the Nigerian society be it Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba.

You need to be accepted by the family you are married into. It’s not something that will happen every time but it is better that you are.

If you are going to meet your in-laws for the first time, you need to comport yourself. What is misogyny? What is if they are going to test me with all these weird rules? What is that?! What is misogynistic about you having to not drag meat, spill oil everywhere, you having to be comported? What really is misogynistic about that? ‘’

He said the same rules apply to men as well as they have to comport themselves whenever they visit their in-laws for the first time.

  • EXCLUSIVE: National Steel Council Uncovers ‘Over N1Billion Fraud’, Asks Nigeria’s Steel Development Minister To Suspend Executive Secretary, Musafari Pending Probe Conclusion

The National Steel Council (NSC) in Abuja has informed Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, of an alleged over N1 billion fraud that it linked to its Executive Secretary, Ambassador Abdulqadir Musafari.

The council, in a March 15, 2024 letter, told the minister that Musafari had allegedly “failed, refused and/or neglected to avail the Council of any information concerning his activities on behalf of the council, if duly authorized.”

It advised that the Executive Secretary should be suspended from office pending the conclusion of the investigation of the allegations by a disciplinary committee.

The council’s recommendation followed a request by the committee that it set up on February 12, 2024, to investigate Musafari for, among others, financial impropriety and serious misconduct.

Documents obtained by SaharaReporters show that the committee’s terms of reference included investigating “several wilful and deliberate actions calculated to sabotage the lawful activities of the National Steel Council in the fulfilment of its mandated duties and responsibilities to the Nigerian people under the National Steel Council Act.

“Wilful and deliberate misappropriation of public funds to profit and/or benefits self and with intent to deceive or defraud the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and its citizens.

“A recurring pattern of executive recklessness (both civil and criminal) and blatant disregard for established laws and council procedures and/or directives

“Communicating formally, conducting formal meetings and/or making formal outreaches to third parties on behalf of the council without knowledge or approval, and without consequently reporting the outcome of such to the council.

“Engaging persons (either directly or on secondment) for employment and/or to serve (particularly in strictly confidential positions) to act on behalf of the council without notice to, approval by, and/or subsequent report for the purpose of ratification by the council, in contravention of paragraph 5(2) of the first schedule of the national steel council act.”

The disciplinary committee, headed by a retired judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo, submitted its preliminary report to the NSC Board on February 29, 2024.

Other members of the disciplinary committee are Prof. Sylvester Osuji, Hajiya Fatimah Hayatu, DIG David Folawiyo (Rtd) and Barr. Elvis Asoro (Secretary).

Specific allegations against Musafari that the committee investigated are: “The attempted illegal withdrawal of the sum of N726,477,654.21 from the Treasury of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) without the knowledge, consent or approval of the National Steel Council (NSC).

“Payment of N5,000,000.00 (Five Million) as bank charges” that the National Steel Council said it was unaware of and did not approve.

“Payment of N6,253,000.00 as Insurance dues/claims. The Council is unaware of, and did not approve, any such Insurance agreement(s) for which this payment may be considered a responsibility of the Council.

“Payment of N961,000.00 for Publicity of which the Council is unaware of and did not approve or authorize.

“Expense of N310,060,500 as purchases/acquisition without the knowledge, authority, and/or approval of the Council.

“Expense of N38,418,530.75 as Local Travel and Transport unknown to, unauthorized by, unapproved by, and hidden from the Council.

“Another expense of N4,709,848.05 for Local Travel and Transport unknown to. unauthorized by, and unapproved by, the Council.

“Expense of N1,000,000.00 (One Million) on telephone calls without the knowledge, authorization, and/or Council approval.

“Expense of N1,000,000.00 (One Million) on the printing of security documents that are unknown to, unauthorized by, and unapproved by, the Council.

“Expense of N20,125,000.00 budgeted for staff training on persons unknown to, unauthorized by, and unapproved by. the Council.

“Payment of N24,371,000. as Honorarium and Sitting Allowances which are either unapproved or unreported by the Council.

“Payment of N9 Million for purchase of photocopy machines unknown to, unauthorized by, and unapproved by, the Council.

“Payment of N512,000.00 from funds budgeted for the purpose of National Steel Council, for privately accrued electricity charges by Ambassador A. Musafari on a private and/or personal property, without the knowledge, authorization, and/or approval of Council.

“Payment of N4,435,113.75 for Office Stationery/Computer Consumables without the knowledge, authorization, and/or approval by the Council.

“Payment of N166,000.00 for the purported maintenance of personal/private motor vehicles that the Council is neither aware of nor owns. This payment is without the Council’s knowledge, authority, and/or approval.

“Payment of N120,000.00 (One Hundred and Twenty Thousand) for the maintenance of personal/private Office Furniture for which the Council is not aware of ownership. This payment is without the Council’s knowledge, authority, and/or approval.

“Payment of N99,000.00 purportedly for the maintenance of Office/Residential Quarters that do not belong to, are unknown to, and/or authorized by Council.

“Payment of N470,000 for maintenance of Office/IT Equipment which ownership is unknown to, and/or does not belong to, the Council. This payment was not known to, authorized by, and/or approved by, the Council.

“Payment of N476,000.00 (Four Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand) from public funds for maintenance of private and/or personal Plants/Generators. This payment was not known to, authorized by, and/or approved by, the Council.

“Payment of N107,000.00 for non-specific maintenance services that are not known to. authorized by, and/or approved by, the Council.

“Payment of N1,950,000 for cleaning and fumigation services for private and/or personal premises. This payment was hidden from, unauthorized by, and/or unapproved by, the Council.

“Payment of N4,995,287.50 for Motor Vehicle Fuel Costs for personal vehicles unknown to the Council. This payment was hidden from, unauthorized by. and/or unapproved by, the Council.”

The Council’s chairman, Murtala Aliyu, in a letter to the minister, described the suspension as necessary because Musafari had allegedly “failed, refused and/or neglected to avail the Council of any information concerning his activities on behalf of the council, if duly authorised.”

The letter noted that the Council could not investigate some of the allegations against the ES and advised that they should be reported to law enforcement agencies.

Aliyu said: “It is therefore necessary to forward the infractions which the disciplinary committee cannot investigate under the law beyond the documents presented, to the appropriate government agency e.g. the ICPC (Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission) or the Police to act.

“The infractions against the Executive Secretary are too weighty being criminal in nature and therefore tainted with the commission of crimes which are also in violation of the Federal Government Financial Regulations Rules. These allegations should be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency with investigative powers forthwith.”

He added, “With due respect and without prejudice to the powers of the Honourable Minister for Steel and the committee set up by him, we are of the opinion that these infractions have to be investigated as agreed by the Disciplinary Committee set up under the NSC Act.

“In view of these infractions which are to be investigated, there is the need to suspend the Executive Secretary as stipulated in the Act by the Appointing Authority, which must be informed of these infractions and the steps which the Council is taking in this matter.”

When SaharaReporters contacted Abdulkadir Musafari for a reaction, he declined to comment on the matter.

He simply told our reporter that “if you want to talk about the National Steel Council, please direct it to the Ministry of Steel Development”.

When asked what he meant, he said, “If you want to talk about steel council you should talk to the minister, please.”

  • Toke Makinwa recounts how she underwent surgery to remove 13 fibroids from her body

Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa has recounted how she underwent surgery to remove no fewer than thirteen fibroids from her body.

Toke, who opened up in the latest episode of actress Stephanie Coker’s documentary titled “Where the Heck is My Period,” said that there was a time when people constantly asked if she was pregnant because she had a protruding stomach.

The chatterbox media personality said that at the time, there were photos of her on the red carpet everywhere, and everyone would be talking about whether she was pregnant or not.

Toke said, “PCOS I haven’t had, but I’ve had fibroids. Just watching the documentary, there are a lot of similarities between the symptoms and the bloating. I remember when I started off in this industry and you had to host shows. I remember I had to wear like two waist cinchers or three waist cinchers because I was so tiny, but I had a belly, and people would always ask if you’re pregnant.

”I was tired of people asking, “Are you pregnant?” And you know how there would be photos on red carpets, and they’d be everywhere, and everyone would be talking about the fact that “oh my god, is she pregnant, or has she eaten?”

“I’ve had cousins who’ve had to take out their wombs. It’s very daunting. It’s one of the most stressful things. I think one of the worst parts of it is bleeding excessively. I mean, I didn’t bleed for a hundred and something days, but I know about you just seeing your period when you’re not expecting it. I know about you sitting somewhere, getting up, and someone having to move close to you and say, “oh your period”.

“I’m happy Stephanie Coker did this documentary because women can come together and talk about it. It does a lot for your self-esteem. You’re just nervous all the time. The anxiety levels are high. Eventually, when I got surgery, I had 13 fibroids taken out of me. Tiny me, thirteen.”

  • Tinubu Cancels 72nd  Birthday Celebration Over Hardship, Killing Of Soldiers, Policemen In Delta

    Bola-Ahmed-Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has announced he will not host any birthday celebration or permit others to organize festivities on his behalf when he turns 72 on March 29, 2024.

Tinubu, in a State House release, cited the “challenging times” and “present mood of the nation” as reasons for foregoing his birthday celebration.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Tinubu, said in a statement that while it is customary for leaders to celebrate birthdays, “President Tinubu in deference to this challenging times will not host any birthday event and does not want any of his associates and numerous well-wishers across the country to organise any celebratory event on his behalf or in his name.”

He pointed to the recent killings of military and police officers in Delta State and security breaches as factors informing Tinubu’s decision to cancel any birthday festivities.

The president also requested that no birthday advertisements or goodwill messages be placed in newspapers, radio, or television.

Instead, Tinubu encouraged those wishing to honor him to “kindly donate the money to charity organisations of their choice in his name.”

According to the statement, Tinubu intends to use his birthday as an “opportunity of his birthday to reflect and re-dedicate himself to the task of building a more stable, more secure, virile, prosperous and united Nigeria.”

The announcement comes amid economic hardship and mass kidnappings in parts of  the country

Last week, Tinubu directed a ban on all public funded international trips for ministers, officials and heads of agencies in a move aimed at reducing the cost of governance and ensuring fiscal responsibility.

“Mr. President has concerns about the rising cost of travel expenses borne by Ministries, Department and Agencies of Government as well as the growing need for Cabinet Members and heads of MDAs to focus on their respective mandates for effective service delivery,” read a letter from his Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

The letter cited the “current economic challenges and the need for responsible fiscal management” as reasons for the temporary ban on international travel funded by taxpayers.

  • Ex-Governors, Lawmakers, Others Demand New Constitution For Nigeria, To Send Team To Engage Presidency, National Assembly

Some prominent Nigerians including former governors, legislators and other leaders of thought have called for the reconfiguration of the country’s governance system and structure to address the imbalance in the existing federalism.

This was part of the resolution reached at a dialogue organised by the Patriots, a group of prominent Nigerian leaders of thought led by Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Commonwealth Secretary-General.

The Patriots General Secretary for National Constitutional Dialogue, 2024 In Lagos, Olawale Okunniyi, in a statement on Sunday, said the group hosted the national dialogue (Colloquium) to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the 2014 National Confab in honour of the late Prof. Ben Nwabueze SAN, the immediate past chairman of the Patriots.

The focus of the dialogue was on a prosperous future for Nigeria through the prospects of a new democratic people’s constitution that will offer assured hope and prosperity to the diverse peoples and citizens of Nigeria in the face of the current socio-economic miseries, political instability and worsening insecurity in the country.

Participants at the well-attended national dialogue included elder statesmen, Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former governors, serving and ex-Senators, former ministers, traditional rulers, constitutional lawyers, delegates to previous constitutional confabs of Nigeria, leaders of thought, scholars, other members of the Nigerian public and the organisers.

After a long and robust deliberation that followed the keynote address by Prof. Mike Ozekhome SAN, and contributions from invited discussants and participants, the colloquium requested that some consensual conclusions and recommendations be submitted to the Presidency and the National Assembly for their expeditious consideration and appropriate action:

The conclusions are as follows: “The challenge of governance has become profound and should necessitate circumspection from political leadership in their decision-making process as overwhelming majority of Nigerians are genuinely yearning for an end to the prevailing challenging situation in the country.

“There is a need for a. Genuine commitment to ending the culture of political impunity which engenders corruption, promotes monetization of politics and undermines competence and commitment to patriotism.

“b.  Urgent holistic appraisal of the security situation in Nigeria to engender decisive and robust intervention in the pervasive insecurity ravaging the country.

“c. Reform of existing security infrastructure through the creation of state police and localisation of Police command structure to enhance inclusive participation in community and neighbourhood security across Nigeria.

“d.  Reconfiguration of the country’s governance system and structure to address the imbalance in the existing federalism in order to guarantee fiscal responsibility and accountability in governance as well as enhance accelerated development across Nigeria.

“e. Strengthening of existing democratic institutions to safeguard democracy, guarantee pro-people governance and make political actors accountable to the people.

“f. Deepening of democracy and governance at the grassroots to give a sense of belonging to the mass of Nigerian stakeholders.”

They resolved that the “prevailing 1999 Constitution and its brand of presidential system foster politics of alienation and increasing appetite for state capture amongst the ruling elite to the exclusion of a large section of Nigerian citizens; leading to disenchantment across the country, while also asserting that the constitution, by its flawed origin, lacks legitimacy, which it cannot acquire from any number of amendments.

“The dialogue also affirmed that the Draft Constitution  of the 2014 National Conference and the 1963 Republican Constitution of Nigeria, by their representative and popular character, are generally acceptable national documents as platforms for popular deliberations and consensual recommendations towards birthing a new democratic people’s constitution for Nigeria through an elective Constituents Assembly or national referendum to be initiated by the federal government through relevant provisions of the extant laws of Nigeria

“Finally, the dialogue resolved that, to move forward the renewed advocacy for the actualisation of a new democratic constitution for Nigeria, an inclusive Team be set up by The Patriots to embark on strategic and constructive engagements with the Nigerian peoples and citizens, the Presidency and National Assembly of Nigeria for their full buy-in and support towards achieving the dialogue agenda for the cohesion, stability, good governance and prosperity of Nigeria under a new democratic people’s constitution of Nigeria.”

  • More troubles for Abure, as LP founders ask him to resign

There seems to be no respite for the National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, as the founders of the party, Trade Union Veterans (TUV), on Sunday, asked him to resign.

Lamenting that allegations of fraud against the chairman have greatly dented the image of the Party, they accused Abure of refusing to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) brokered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and signed by all stakeholders but preferred to sideline the Board of Trustees headed by Comrade Ejiofoh and all those who laboured tirelessly to get Labour Party registered because of his hidden agenda which had now come to the open

TUV members include the pioneer President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Hassan Sunmonu, the 2nd President of the NLC, Comrade Ali Chiroma, the pioneer General Secretary of the Congress, Comrade Aliyu Dangiwa, the 2nd National Treasurer of the NLC, Comrade S. O. Oshidipe.

Others are Comrade S. O. Z Ejiofoh, the Board of Trustees Chairman and pioneer Chairman of Labour Party, Comrade Lawson Osagie Esq, Comrade Salisu Mohammed, all of whom were the main actors in the formation and registration of Labour Party.

In a statement in Lagos by Lawson Osagie, TUV lamented that the noble ideals that prompted the formation of the LP to free Nigerian people from decades of bad governance are being desecrated by the leadership of the party.

The statement said: “We cannot sit down and continue to watch as the ideals, principles, and ethical values of Labour Party we toiled so much to build over the decades are being rubbished by one man.

“Consequently, we urge Abure to step aside now as the National Chairman of Labour Party and in his place, the Board of Trustees should appoint a Caretaker National Chairman that will organize Congresses in the States before the National Convention can be convened.”

TUV members also stressed the need for the Board of Trustees under the Chairmanship of Comrade Ejiofoh to be enlarged to accommodate representatives of the new stakeholders namely Mr. Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti, and the Labour Party Legislative Caucus, saying: “This body will be charged with the implementation in spirit and letter of the MOU referred to earlier.”

They noted that the Supreme Court under Justice Uwais ruled long ago that workers have the right to form a political party to defend and promote their interest, noting “How then can any well-read and informed lawyer say that NLC has no business in politics or is a meddlesome interloper in the affairs of Labour Party formed by the Trade Unions themselves.

Read also: BAUCHI: Four women die during stampede for zakaat

“For the benefit of those who want to know, the 2009 Constitution of the Labour Party in which NLC and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC Presidents, and Secretaries are made statutory members of National Executive Council, NEC, of LP were the input and contribution by the Edo State Council of LP and Julius Abure was Secretary of the subcommittee on the Review of the Constitution while Comrade Lawson Osagie was the Chairman and a Benin-based legal practitioner, Adams Aliyu was also a member.”

According to them, “Abure’s current rhetoric about the role and place of NLC in the LP is not only disappointing but embarrassing to the culture of comradeship and solidarity of the trajectory and historical perspective of the labour movement in general and LP in particular.

“Those attacking the Presidents of NLC including the current one, Comrade Joe Ajaero for defending the ethical values of the founding fathers of LP now being desecrated by Abure are not informed or knowledgeable in the hierarchical structure or organs of the NLC and how decisions are made.

“No individual takes decisions at the NLC. It must go through organs such as the National Administrative Council, NAC, the Central Working Committee, CWC, and the NEC. This is the old tradition which is still followed and respected religiously because NLC is a democratic organization in which power resides in organs and not in an office.

“Abure has refused to implement the MOU brokered by INEC and signed by all stakeholders but prefers to sideline the Board of Trustees headed by Comrade Ejiofoh and all those who laboured tirelessly to get Labour Party registered because of his hidden agenda which had now come to the open.

“The Labour Party was recommended by the then Political Bureau set up by General Ibrahim Babaginda (rtd) during his transition as the 6th Political Party to be registered but the process was scuttled when General Babaginda opted to form the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and the National Republican Convention, NRC.

“The struggle to form the Labour Party continued until it was eventually registered as Party for Social Democracy Party, SDP, and after the NEC meeting in Bauchi in 2001, the name of the Party was changed to Labour Party.”
