  • King Charles’ funeral plans unveiled as it emerges his cancer is worse and the monarch has been given “2 years to live”

    King Charles

King Charles’ funeral plans are already set amid his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Though he has been the British monarch for only 18 months, following his ascension to the throne on May 6, 2023, plans have been laid out for the eventual demise of King Charles III.

When Queen Elizabeth II died, Operation London Bridge was activated to facilitate the smooth transition of power to her son, then-Prince Charles.

Now, with Prince Charles’ cancer getting worse, royal insiders tell In Touch that Charles’ final resting plans are of timely prioritization.

The plans have been dubbed “Operation Menai Bridge”, named after the world’s first iron suspension bridge in Anglesey, Wales.

“It’s a fairly common thing to do among the British royalty, but in Charles’ case expediency is necessary,” says the source, who notes that “some courtiers believe Charles’ cancer is worse than they’re making it out to be.”

“Operation Menai Bridge” is set to include familiar protocols. When the monarch dies, Charles’ body will be moved from the throne room at Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. He will lie in state, and his official funeral will take place nine days later. He will likely be buried in the royal vault at Windsor Castle.

The update comes shortly after a separate high ranking royal insider told In Touch that Charles is not only battling pancreatic cancer – a timely update given that he did not share what kind of cancer he was diagnosed with – but has a mere two years to live.

“King Charles is much sicker than the palace lets on and simply isn’t up to the job of running his fractious family, the crown’s business interests and fulfilling the daily duties of the monarchy,” the member of the royal inner circle revealed in early March.

“His cancer is eating him alive. He’s very frail. The situation is desperate.”

Even Queen Camilla is said to be frustrated by Charles’ declining health and weakened status.

“Behind the scenes, Camilla is disgusted by the king’s apparent weakness and is providing him little comfort as he battles his fatal cancer,” a palace courtier told In Touch in early March.”

Buckingham Palace announced in February that King Charles III had been diagnosed with cancer. The form of cancer was not disclosed and there were speculations it was prostate cancer because the condition was identified during an operation that treated the British monarch’s benign prostate enlargement. However, a palace spokesperson clarified that Charles does not have prostate cancer.

The high-ranking royal insider who spoke to In Touch has now claimed that Charles is battling pancreatic cancer and has been given a short time to live.

    Anambra-House-of-Assembly

A bill for a law to provide for the prohibition of secret cult and similar activities and related matters has passed second reading.

The bill scaled through second reading during plenary at the Anambra State House of Assembly.

The bill sponsored by the Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme seeks to prohibit all forms of cultism in Anambra State.

Leading the debate, Sir Ikenna stated that the fight against cultism involves all especially the church, parents and institutions, disclosing that the menace has gone beyond activities in schools and has spread down to villages and streets.

He noted that it is a lifesaving bill because cultism has triggered the taking of illicit drugs which enabled cultists carry out most of the killings they do.

He disclosed that if the bill is passed into law, anyone who commits the offence whether through conspiracy, sponsoring or supporting cult activities, will face the consequences.

Ikenna said the State House of Assembly is committed to making Anambra state a livable and prosperous homeland, which is the mission and vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

According to him “secret cultism has been a bane in the society today. One could always think that this cultism is something that has only to do with higher institutions but hearing of the menace of such as concerns our society at large is truly unbelievable

“The number of killings associated with cultism these days in various communities is so enormous and umpteenth that needs urgent attention from the government in order to stop their activities, met laws to serve as punishment and save the lives of people.”

  • Gov Idris demands review of revenue sharing formula

The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has called for a review of the sharing formula for federal allocations to meet the needs of citizens.

Idris, who addressed journalists on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, also revisited the issue of state police in the country.

He said the revenue sharing formula was lopsided in favour of the Federal Government to the detriment of the states.

The revenue allocation to the three tiers of government is determined by Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and approved by the National Assembly.

The formula allocates 52.68%, 26.72%, and 20.60% to the federal, state, and local governments respectively.

The governor said: “A situation where the federal government takes 55 percent of the total revenue share was, to say the least unfair. We must look at the formula to meet our campaign promises to our citizens.

“When you look at it, the states and local governments are the closest to the people and most of the challenges faced directly by citizens are handled by the states and local governments.

“It is at the state that you find the farmers, the artisans, the poorest of the poor and it is our responsibility as governors to make life meaningful and worth living for them.

“So, I believe that the federal government has fewer responsibilities in terms of direct interaction with Nigerians. Governors and local government chairmen deal directly with the people and that is a huge burden on them.

“Our revenues should be shared in such a way that state and local governments that often have direct interactions with the Nigerian people should collect higher percentage to meet their yearnings and aspirations.”

On the state police, Idris said he was not against the idea but called for caution in its implementation.

He added: “It is believed that the existence of state police in the country’s various states will help in combating the rising insecurity in the country.

“It will also negate the wanton imposition on the states by the federal authorities and other agents in the state.

“The idea of a state police is to continue to protect the lives and properties of the citizenry and to curb criminal activities in the states.

“So, we need to look at the challenges the federal government was having with securing the people that the idea of the state police arose from.

“When I look at this issue, I think first to increase the number of security agents. Their number is very inadequate for Nigeria’s population of over 200 million.

“When we take it from here, then we can start to look at the financial capacity of some states that should serve as pilot states to test this new innovation.

“The states that can purchase equipment, take care of personnel welfare and other logistical demands.”

In the world of technology and innovation, Nigerians have continued to scale up the ladder of success.

Their ground-breaking effort towards revolutionising the technology sector have been massive and impactful.

One of them is a Nigerian female robotics engineer, Kemisola Bolarinwa who has unveiled her pioneering invention in the health sector; the Smart Bra. The Bra, the engineer said, will help in detecting breast cancer at an early stage.

Bolarinwa who launched her company, Nextware Technologies in 2019, disclosed that the Smart Bra utilises cutting-edge ultrasound technology to detect breast cancer in its early stages, offering hope and potentially saving countless lives across Africa.

According to her, the innovative idea hinged on the prevailing breast cancer among women in Sub-Saharan Africa, with late diagnosis significantly impacting survival rates.

Inspired by the loss of her beloved aunt to the disease, Bolarinwa embarked on a mission to develop a solution that could empower women to detect breast cancer from the comfort of their homes.

“The pain of witnessing the suffering of women battling late-stage breast cancer fueled my determination to make a difference,” Bolarinwa said while giving an insight to the innovation.

The CEO emphasised on the need to leverage technology to break down barriers on early detection of breast cancer and improve outcomes for women in Africa and beyond.

She noted that the Smart Bra, poised to serve as a beacon of hope for communities where access to conventional screening services is limited.

On how the Smart Bra works, Bolarinwa said it will be equipped with mobile and web applications that will provide users with real-time results and empower them to take proactive steps towards their health.

“I envision a future where every woman, regardless of her location or socioeconomic status, can access life-saving breast cancer screening.

“Our mission is to make early detection accessible, affordable, and empowering for women across the globe,” she added

This invention has garnered accolades from both local and international stakeholders, including approval from Nigeria’s Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

Despite challenges such as sourcing raw materials and securing funding, Bolarinwa remains steadfast in her commitment to realising her vision of a world where breast cancer no longer claims lives unnecessarily.

Experts in the sector say the Smart Bra represents more than just a technological breakthrough; but embodies Bolarinwa’s unwavering dedication to driving societal change and empowering women in Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

Through her leadership at Nextware Technologies and the Women in ICT Foundation, the robotics entrepreneur has continued to advocate for STEM education and gender equality, inspiring the next generation of innovators to break barriers and make a difference.

  • Teenage boy stabs his 15-year-old friend to death in Bauchi

Teenage boy stabs his 15-year-old friend to death in Bauchi

A 15-year-old boy, Adamu Isa, son of a retired police officer, has been stabbed to death by his friend, Abubakar Isa,15, in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The incident occurred on March 27, 2024, barely two days after a 16-year-old boy stabbed a 25-year-old man to death in another town in the state.

It was gathered that there was a heated argument between a group of friends in the NEPA area of Ningi, leading to a quarrel between the two teenagers.

In the process, the suspect drew out his knife and stabbed the deceased in the neck, close to the throat, leading to his immediate death even before getting to the hospital.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakili, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, expressed concern over the spate of violent killings among teenagers and youths in the state.

“On the 27th of March 2024, at about 1701 hrs, the Ningi Police Division received a distress call from a retired DSP Kasuwa Isa who resides behind the INEC office in Ningi,” the PPRO said.

“He reported that his son, 15-year-old Adamu Isa, was stabbed with a knife on his neck by one Abubakar Isah, who is also 15 years old and lives behind the NEPA office in Ningi.

“On receiving the complaint, the DPO of Ningi Division led a team of detectives to the scene of the incident and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital in Ningi, where he was certified dead by a medical doctor.”

The PPRO added that presently, the suspect, Abubakar Isa, has been arrested and is in police custody pending an investigation into the issue.

He said said that the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, on receiving the information, directed the Area Commander in Ningi as well as the DPO to make frantic efforts to unravel the circumstances leading to the killing, just as he ordered a postmortem of the body of the deceased.

While a full investigation is ongoing, the command called for more vigilance among guardians on the need to safeguard the lives of their wards, considering the rampant cases of violence among youth these days.

“The Command is regretting that this is the second case within a few days when similar things happened in the state, a development that it says called for an urgent collective effort by all stakeholders,” he added.

“The Command is not happy with the development, as young people are finding themselves in a very uncompromising situation of a little altercation that is leading to their death.”

The Command condoled with the family of the victim, praying Allah to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The Commissioner of Police urged members of the public to continue to support the police.

CP Auwal Musa Mohammed then promised that the family of the deceased would be served justice as the Police would prosecute the case to a logical conclusion.

  • TCN restores national grid after second system collapse in 2024

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the national grid following its collapse on Thursday.

The company confirmed the development in a statement on Friday in Abuja by its spokesman, Ndidi Mbah.

It said the grid attained full recovery at 10:00 pm on the same day.

Thursday’s collapse of Nigeria’s power grid was the second this year.

The statement read: “A report from the National Control Centre in Osogbo had it that the system disturbance was triggered by a significant reduction in generation capacity primarily due to gas constraints.

“This led to a rapid decline in system frequency, creating a sudden imbalance in the grid. The imbalance in grid stability was exacerbated by the sudden tripping of Egbin generation Turbine 3, resulting in an additional loss of 167MW load and the subsequent collapse of the grid.

“We remain optimistic that power supply will be restored to optimal normalcy soon, as the grid restoration continues. We will keep you updated.”
