  • Again, 27 Rivers Assembly Lawmakers Loyal To Wike Threaten To Impeach Governor Fubara Over Peace Accord

    Siminalayi-Fubara-and-Tony-Okocha

Rivers Assembly lawmakers loyal to the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, have again threatened to impeach the state governor, Sim Fubara over his refusal to implement the peace accord signed in 2023.

The governor had signed the peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu which conceded the state political affairs to Wike, whose tenure as governor ended on May 29, 2023.

There had been crises over appointments, contracts, leadership of the state assembly among others. Wike was angry that the governor soon after being installed abandoned a gentleman’s agreement, which provided him the opportunity to be a pseudo governor while also being a minister.

The crisis led to fracas among supporters and the burning of the state assembly complex with the majority of the lawmakers serving impeachment notice on the governor.

The peace deal calmed all frayed nerves and the governor promised he would implement the terms of the deal.

But months on, Wike’s loyal lawmakers in the assembly have grown increasingly impatient that the major part of the terms have been abandoned forcing them to hold a press conference on Saturday, warning the governor he risked being impeached.

Rt. Hon Martins Amaehwule, the Speaker of the Assembly, who addressed the press in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, held that, “They must not forget that the Rivers State House of Assembly has the mandate of the people and that we swore an oath of allegiance to the Constitution to do the needful including the Impeachment of the Governor as a last resort,” referring to the governor and his camp.

He warned that, “If it becomes a last resort, in accordance with the law, we will not hesitate to do so because no individual is bigger than Rivers State, including the Governor”

He emphasised that, “It is worthy of note that the notice of impeachment of the Governor was quickly withdrawn by members of the House in fulfilment of the terms of the agreement and out of immense respect for the person and office of the President of the Federal Republic and believing that there would be a u-turn in terms of unlawful actions of the Governor.

“The reverse is now the case as we see from day to day the activities of the State Governor been conducted outside the laws of Rivers State and the Constitution.

“What about advising the Governor to heed to the Peace Agreement he begged for, willingly signed, and has chosen not to abide by some of the terms?

“To this day, Rivers State remains the only State without an Appropriation Law and the Governor recklessly abandons laws of the State. These new hawks in the scene and all those who are quick to refer to the Governor as ‘Mr. Innocent’ will not go and advise him.

“They prefer to hold talk shows, organise rallies, hold press conferences, and announce that the House commenced impeachment proceedings against the Governor for no just cause but fail to ask the Governor if he has not been informed of the particulars of gross misconduct levelled against him or at least read them when they were filed in Court in response to his petition,” he stated.

He stressed that, “We begin by announcing to you that sponsored attacks on the House have failed woefully. Enemies of the people and those who cannot withstand the principles of the rule of law as well as checks and balances in our nascent democracy, in their frustration, started with the burning and later demolition of the Hallowed Chamber.

“Their plan is to eliminate the legislature that is pushing for the independence granted her by the Constitution since they cannot exercise undue control over her”

“We survived these attacks! Their new strategy is to use another arm of government, lobbyists, attack dogs and the mainstream and social media to bring the House to disrepute and consummate their agenda. In this regard, various individuals, groups, and media mercenaries have been recruited to actualize their objectives.”

“We assure the good people of Rivers State that we remain undeterred in our service to our father land and no number of threats including those of violence against us just like they attacked the Speaker’s residence will make us abandon our Constitutional mandate to make laws for the good governance of our dear State”, Amaehwule said.

  • Bashir El-Rufai tackles Governor Uba Sani for complaining about his father leaving behind a huge debt burden of $587m and N85bn debt

Bashir El-Rufai tackles Governor Uba Sani for complaining about his father leaving behind a huge debt burden of $587m and N85bn debt

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken a swipe at his father’s successor Governor Uba Sani for complaining about the former governor leaving behind a huge debt burden of $587m and N85bn debt.

At a recent town hall meeting, Uba Sani was quoted saying “despite the huge debt burden of 587 million Dollars, 85 billion Naira, and 115 Contractual Liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development. We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly”.

    Reacting to this, Bashir pointed out alleged excesses of the current administration in Kaduna state. He tweeted;

“The current administration in Kaduna is building a banquet hall for 7BN naira and is lamenting about debt left by the previous administration.

FYI: He was the Senator from Kaduna who lobbied & approved the loans. One would think that from all the FAAC allocations these unserious clowns have changed to dollars, debt would be the least of their problems. These guys have realised that they are wholly incompetent and the only way to mask the nonsense is to deflect. From a Governor that is always sleeping in Abuja to a litany of incompetent aides that were only rewarded for foolish political reasons.”

  • ‘Insult To Christians’ — Trump Slams Biden For Proclaiming Easter Day As Transgender Day

Former United States President Donald Trump has described as ‘blasphemous’ President Joe Biden’s declaration of March 31 as ‘Transgender Visibility Day.

March 31 is regarded among Christians as Easter Sunday and Trump seized the moment to accuse Biden of insulting Christians.

In a proclamation published on the White House website on March 29, Biden said that the transgender community is loved in America.

“Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans: You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong. You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back.

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility. I call upon all Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our Nation and to work toward eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity,” he stated.

Reacting, the Trump Presidential Campaign Organisation accused Biden of assaulting the Christian faith through his proclamation.

“It is appalling and insulting that Joe Biden’s White House prohibited children from submitting religious egg designs for their Easter Art Event, and formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Trans Day of Visibility.’

*Sadly, these are just two more examples of the Biden Administration’s years-long assault on the Christian faith. We call on Joe Biden’s failing campaign and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” -Karoline Leavitt, Trump Campaign National Press Secretary stated.

On his part, US Speaker, Mike Johnson said Biden’s announcement is outrageous.

“The Biden White House has betrayed the central tenet of Easter — which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Banning sacred truth and tradition—while at the same time proclaiming Easter Sunday as “Transgender Day”—is outrageous and abhorrent. The American people are taking note,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Trump is gearing up to challenge Biden in the forthcoming presidential election.

  • ‘He Changed FAAC Allocations To Dollars’ — El-Rufai’s Son Blasts Kaduna Gov Over Claim Father Left Huge Debts

    Governor-of-Kaduna-State-Uba-Sani-and-Bashir-EL-Rufia

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has fired back at the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, over claims he inherited huge debts from the ex-governor’s administration.

Bashir, in a series of tweets via his X handle, accused Sani of negligence of duty, alleging that the governor spends most of his time in Abuja instead of attending to affairs of the state.

Bashir also lambasted Governor Sani for purportedly surrounding himself with incompetent aides chosen solely for political reasons.

THE WHISTLER reported that Sani, during a town hall meeting in Kaduna on Saturday, disclosed that his administration was grappling with $587m and N85bn debts, as well as 115 contractual liabilities, inherited from the previous administration of El-Rufai.

He said the debts pose challenges to fulfilling salary obligations.

But reacting, Bashir slammed Sani administration and dismissed the debt claims as an excuse for poor governance. He accused Sani’s team of incompetence, contract inflation, and speculative financial practices.

Bashir wrote: “These guys have realised that they are wholly incompetent and the only way to mask the nonsense is to deflect. From a Governor that is always sleeping in Abuja to a litany of incompetent aides that were only rewarded for foolish political reasons.”

On the debt profile of the state, Bashir wrote: “FYI: He was the Senator from Kaduna who lobbied & approved the loans.

“One would think that from all the FAAC allocations these unserious clowns have changed to dollars, debt would be the least of their problems.

“The current administration in Kaduna is building a banquet hall for 7BN naira and is lamenting about debt left by the previous administration.”

Governor Sani was the Kaduna Central Senator in the 9th Senate before his emergence as the state governor in the 2023 elections.

He is not the first governor to fall out with his predecessor. Governor Siminilayi Fubara of Rivers State also fell out with his former principal Nyesom Wike barely months after taking the reins of leadership.
