  • Woman with world’s longest legs reveals dating struggles

    Woman with world

A Texas woman who has the world’s longest legs says there are serious setbacks to being super tall.

Maci Currin, 21, stands at 6 feet,10 inches, with both of her legs measuring more than 52 inches in length.

The world record holder says she’s subjected to cruel comments from strangers, while also struggling with dating and finding fitted pants for her legs.

“If someone is going to hate, they hate because they don’t understand,” Currin claimed in an interview with Jam Press. “[I’m] called horror movie characters, like Slenderman.”

    Woman with world

The super-tall Texan shares videos on TikTok, where trolls often leave rude remarks about her appearance.

“That would be scary to see in a dark hallway,” one person wrote on a recent video of the content creator.

However, it’s not just strangers that treat Currin cruelly.

She told Jam Press that she always towers over her dates, leaving some of them feeling inadequate and “embarrassed.”

“All the times I’ve dated, especially with men that are shorter than me by a significant amount, has just felt off,” she stated. “Like they were almost embarrassed of me.”

    Woman with world

In one TikTok clip, Currin claimed that men are reluctant to kiss her in public because of the height difference.

Finding clothes that fit is also an issue.

“I shop at American Tall mostly, although they don’t have any long pants that fit me,” she explained.

“I have to get them custom-made, which costs around $250 for one pair of jeans. I’m not made of money [so] I only have two pairs of jeans that fit me right.”

Currin says she hasn’t drawn the short end of the stick with her long legs, and loves being her height in spite of the setbacks.

“I hated my height [as a child] because it was the one thing kids could target me for,” she stated. “But the best perk would have to be that no one is like me. I am unique.”

Currin is now on a mission to encourage other similarly tall women to love themselves.

“As a 6 foot, 10inch female, my job is to empower other tall women,” she said.

  • BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu Rejects Justice Nyako’s Ruling On Charges Against Him, Files Appeal Against Nigerian Government

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has filed an  appeal at the Appeal Court against the Nigerian government on the ruling of Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Kanu, who filed the appeal through his legal team led by its Lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, rejected the March 19 ruling of Justice Nyako on the criminal charges the Nigerian government preferred against him.

According to the notice of appeal court document obtained by SaharaReporters, Kanu’s legal team informed the Appeal Court that the lower court erred when it denied the IPOB leader his constitutional rights to fair trial.

Kanu also noted that the Department of State Services (DSS), failed to provide adequate facilities to prepare for the defence of the criminal allegations against the Appellant and his right to counsel of his own choice, thereby occasioning a grave miscarriage of justice.

The notice of appeal with charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015, reads, “Take Notice that the Appellant being dissatisfied with the Ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division coram: B.F.M Nyako, J. delivered on the 19th March, 2024 doth hereby appeal to the Court of Appeal Abuja upon the grounds set out in Paragraph 3 below and will at the hearing of the appeal seek reliefs as set out in Paragraph 4 hereof from the Court of Appeal.

“The Learned trial Court erred in law when the Court assumed jurisdiction to proceed with the hearing of the criminal trial against the Appellant when the Appellant is glaringly denied the constitutional right to fair trial with particular reference to denial of adequate facilities to prepare for the defence of the criminal allegations against the Appellant and his right to counsel of his own choice, thereby occasioning a grave miscarriage of justice.

“Fair hearing/trial bears the constitutional safeguards of ensuring that the Appellant is accorded the adequate facilities to prepare for the defence of the criminal allegations levelled against the Appellant.

“The denial of the Appellant the opportunity to interact and brief his counsel on what line of defences the Appellant tends to agitate in the trial court and rely on was adequately brought to the attention of the trial Court by Motion.

“The trial Court failed and neglected to make necessary orders that would protect the Appellant’s aforesaid rights but rather held that the Court cannot dictate how the Respondent carries out its work.

“The trial Court has the powers to order the Respondent (being the detaining authority) to cease and desist from interfering with Appellant’s constitutional/fair hearing right to adequate facilities to prepare defence and his right to counsel of his choice; and where it is impossible to do so or where the Respondent persists, the trial court has the power to order an alternative custodial arrangement or non-custodial arrangement for the Appellant.

“Denial of the Appellant’s right to adequate facilities to prepare defence as enshrined in Section 36 (6) (b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 is a jurisdictional issues in the absence of which the trial Court cannot assume or proceed with the jurisdiction over the case unless and until such facilities are accorded to the Appellant.”

The legal team also accused the trial judge of erring when she held that “I cannot make orders directing a security agency on how to do their work.

“I can only direct that whatever is within the law must be allowed to the Defendant. Counsel cannot direct the court or give condition to the court on how to conduct its business.

“The Defendant is entitled to a counsel of his choice and should be given the facility to conduct an interview with his counsel within the confines of the law.”

The detained IPOB leader by a notice of preliminary objection prayed the appellate court to find and hold that trial in the case cannot proceed except, the “respondent stopped the unconstitutional acts of forcibly seizing and photocopying confidential legal documents brought to the Appellant by the Appellant’s lawyers meant for the Appellant’s defence of the charges against the appellant.

“Stopped eavesdropping on the Appellant’s confidential consultation/conversations with the Appellant’s counsel which discussion is aimed at preparing the Appellant for his defence.

“The Respondent denied counsel to the Appellant the right to take notes; denied them the rights to transmit messages and information to the Appellant; secretly took pictures of counsel and the Appellant’s interviews and recorded briefings between the Appellant’s lawyers and the Appellant, scanned documents meant for the Appellant from the Appellant’s team of lawyers and even refused to allow lawyers to the Appellant deliver letters to the Appellant.

“The action of the Respondent in the instant case is a flagrant violation of the appellant’s right to counsel of his own choice as stipulated in Section 36 (6) (c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”

He also accused Justice Nyako of erring in law by ordering for accelerated hearing of the case given the facts of the case showing that the respondent had consistently refused to afford the Appellant the right to adequate facility to prepare for the defence of the charges leveled against the Appellant and his right to counsel, and thereby occasioned miscarriage of justice against the Appellant and in favour of the Respondent.

Kanu stressed that the judge “Cannot order accelerated hearing of a criminal charge where it is brought to the attention of the Court that the Appellant is denied the adequate facilities to prepare his defence and his right to counsel.

“The order for accelerated hearing of the case in face of the constitutional breaches of fair hearing/trial rights of the Appellant is a credence to the Respondent to proceed on the unconstitutional denial of the Appellant his right to adequate facilities to prepare for his defence and his right to counsel of his choice.”

  • Students’ Loan Will Commence Soon, Private Institutions Exempted — Rep

Front view of the House of Representative | Nneoma Benson

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Student’s Loan, Hon. Gboyega Isiaka on Thursday assured that the students’ loan will commence any moment noting that all delays and encumbrances have been removed.

The Chairman however disclosed that students of privately owned institutions are exempted from the scheme.

According to him, the first beneficiaries of the scheme will be Nigerian students of government-owned tertiary institutions and those who prefer skill development to university education.

Hon. Isiaka, while speaking to journalists during a press briefing held in Abuja said “For anybody that has the capacity to send his or her children to some of those private schools, you will agree with me that the need for such loan is probably minimal.

“But talking seriously, the thing that I know is that if you look at section 2 of the law, it says that the Nigerian Student’s Loan is set up to manage a group of funds.

“This is a particular stream of funds meant for public tertiary education and I know that plans are to see what can be developed for private education.”

He however said that Nigerian Students studying in private Tertiary Institutions can leverage the provisions of section 6 of the law which provides that loans shall cover school fees and maintenance.

The Lawmaker further disclosed that the quantum of funds required for successful implementation of the Student Loan will be drawn from one per cent of all revenues accruing into the Federation Account.

“Section 6 of the law provides that the fund will from time to time at least once a year reel out guidelines for the loan, every year.

“It’s the guidelines that will actually give more details about some of those things. In terms of school fees, maybe another class of funds will take care of that,” he noted.

In the bid to address the challenge of repayment, Hon. Isiaka disclosed that there are adequate provisions in the law that will address the concerns.

According to him, “Section 29 of the law says, as an employer of labour, once this law comes to be before you employ anyone you must check or ascertain education loan status. And if you don’t, there are penalties for it, both in terms of payment and fine and also imprisonment.

“And if you are a private person and also become an Employer of yourself, and if you don’t do it, there’s a law against you.”

He disclosed that anyone convicted is liable to a N2 million fine or 3 months imprisonment or both.

Nigerians of the present administration’s resolve towards ensuring adequate funding of Student Loans for the benefit of Nigerians studying in publicly owned Tertiary Institutions across the country.

He said: “The patriotism and determination to make sure that this is a sustainable success still made the Executive and Mr President, in particular Tom, present those far-reaching amendments which have not become law.

“The law has amended so many shortcomings in the 2023 law in the area of funds that we have. Now we have a known corporate entity that is called the Nigerian Education Trust Fund. We now have an institution that is strong, sustainable and comparable to what we have in different parts of the world and going by all that will come into it.”

While expressing satisfaction with the initiative, Hon. Isiaka said: “I am satisfied in my mind that the Nigerian government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done so well for the Nigerian educational sector.”

Responding to questions on the possible takeoff time of the scheme, he expressed optimism that the Executive will expedite action on the setting up of the management team of the Institution without further delay.

While stressing that “everybody is in a hurry to get this done,” Hon. Isiaka expressed optimism that the management of the National Education Trust Fund when constituted will be given a marching order to commence work in earnest for the benefit of millions of Nigerian Students.

Hon. Isiaka who averred that the Education loan has both economic and social benefits, explained that the Student Loan is interest interest-free loan with and flexible repayment arrangement.

According to him, the Student Loan “covers both Tertiary as well as skills and vocational education. And the law also makes provision for repayment which is done immediately after you finish school.”
