  • We Are Committed To Security Of Abia- Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reassured the residents of Abia that security of lives and properties remains a top priority of his administration.

Governor Otti disclosed this on Thursday when he received the Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command, Lagos, Rear Admiral Ignatius Albara, who was in Abia on a familiarisation tour of the Nigeria Navy College of Accounting and Finance, Owerrinta.

The Governor informed that without security government’s initiatives would amount to nothing, adding that in the last 10 months, all the security outfits in the state have been working tirelessly to secure the state.

Otti applauded the multi-agency security outfit, ‘Operation Crush’, an initiative of the state government, for living up to the objectives for which it was set up.

“We’ve been working in close partnership with the College, and Eyitayo (O.E. Eyitayo, Commandant, Nigeria Navy College of Accounting and Finance), is part of our government. Virtually everything we do in terms of security, he is involved.

“I want to really appreciate your visit. Here, we take security very seriously. In fact, it is the number one item on our agenda, simply because all the initiatives we have will come to naught if security fails.

“In the last 10 months, we’ve been able, collectively with the Police, Army, DSS, Civil Defence, working together to ensure that this place (Abia State) is crime free. We set up an inter agency operation called, Operation Crush, and we have men drawn from different security agencies, who are dedicated 24/7 to ensure maximum security,” the Governor said.

Addressing the Governor earlier, the Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command, Lagos, Rear Admiral Ignatius Albara, said he was in Abia on a familiarisation tour of the Nigerian
Navy College of Accounting and Finance, Owerrinta,
having assumed duties a few weeks ago.

“It is customary that when one takes over office, you familiarise yourself with what is happening at the professional schools, and to evaluate and see the challenges they have.

“It is on that note that we are here today to visit the College of Finance. We thought it necessary, since the college is here in Abia under you,” he stated

He commended the Governor for his giant strides in the state and the numerous support given to the college to make its work easy.

Also speaking, the Commandant, Nigeria Navy College of Accounting and Finance, O.E. Eyitayo, appreciated Governor Otti for his support to the college and the combined security team in the state, which has made their job easier.

  • We will continue to make them restless, empty drums make loudest noise

We will continue to make them restless, empty drums make loudest noise - Fubara takes another shot at Wike

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has again taken another shot at his former benefactor, Nyesom Wike’s camp, days after he stated that his implementation of the presidential peace pact they reached should not be taken as weakness.

Fubara who spoke at the ground breaking of automobile spare parts market in Port Harcourt, on Thursday, April 4, said the purported list of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee members for the State, circulating on social media as fake.

    He also vowed to keep making the camp of his estranged benefactor, Nyesom Wike, restless. The Rivers state Governor said;

“I know that a lot of you saw something flying in the social media, dailies. Let me brief you, we hard a meeting, and we agreed that, not just in Rivers State, but in all the States affected, that the Executive Councils (of PDP) should be extended for three months.

“This extension is not meant to bring in new names. The extension also did not say that you are working without the authority of the Governor. So, for those lists that you saw and those ones altered, I can assure you that they are not going to stand.

“For record purposes, so that you will understand, we also agreed that there is going to be a NEC meeting on the 18th of this month (April) that should ratify that decision.

“So, what you are seeing is the handiwork of desperate people who like media publicity. In fact, empty drums make loudest noise. So, don’t bother about anything. Nothing is happening.

“You can see how restless they have been since I made just one statement, yesterday. We will continue to make them restless. They won’t know where we are coming from. We will also continue to hit them hard the way we hit them, yesterday. So, those of you who were worried when you saw those lists that were flying, go and rest, nothing is happening.”

Everybody is saying that Abia has come to stay,” Apugo affirmed.

  • Dollargate: Kano govt files fresh case against Ganduje, wife, 6 others

The Kano State government has filed a fresh case against former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and seven others at the State High Court over alleged bribery.

Other defendants are the ex-governor’s wife, Hafsat Umar, his son, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Abubakar Bawuro, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lesage General Enterprise.

Ganduje was seen in a video in 2018 allegedly receiving bundles of dollar notes from a contractor and stuffing them inside his flowing dress known as “babanriga.”

The ex-governor was mocked by several Nigerians, including leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who branded him “Gandollar” following the incident.

The Kano House of Assembly thereafter set up a committee to investigate the matter, but after the committee failed to submit its report, Governor Abba Yusuf in 2023 set up a new panel to look into the matter.

A few days later the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invited Ganduje along with the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the Accountant General of Kano State for interrogation on the matter.

He had since approached the state High Court to stop the government’s probe.

The state’s counsel, Muhuyi Magaji, who announced the new case on Thursday, said the government would arraign Ganduje and others on an eight-count charge for allegedly receiving bribe from a contractor in dollars, misappropriations and diversion of funds running into billions of naira during his tenure.

  • Despite Pleading Guilty To Money Laundering, Binance CEO Tops 2024 Crypto Billionaires List

    Binance CEO, Zhao

Despite pleading guilty to money laundering in November 2023, the founder and former Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of crypto exchange Binance, Changpeng Zhao has retained the crypto wealthiest person by Forbes.

Recall that Zhao faced federal money laundering charges brought by the Department of Justice and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and agreed to pay $200m in fines last year as part of a settlement.

The subsequent part of the settlement agreed upon was for him to step down from the position of CEO while also prohibiting his involvement with the company for three years following his guilty plea.

However, Forbes revealed that despite the challenges, CZ’s net worth surged to an estimated $33bn, up from $10.5bn which it was in 2023. This 214.29 per cent surge pushed him to the rank of 50th-wealthiest person in the world.

Based on corporate documents and discussions with former employees, Zhao’s stake in Binance is estimated to be around 90 per cent valued at approximately $32.5bn.

Forbes’ analysis suggests that Binance generated approximately $9bn in revenue last year.
