“Guys marry the love of your life true buh please don’t marry a girl that is extremely poor or from an extremely poor background. Those set of girls will carry all their family problems and put it on you,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

“They will use you as poverty alleviation. Yes you are marrying into the family but please you are not marrying into the family to go and carry their family burden. ONE THING I WILL NEVER DO IS TO ALLOW MY HUSBAND TO CARRY THE BURDEN OF MY FAMILY. EVERYONE SHOULD WORK HARD, IF HE GIVES COOL IF HE DOESNT COOL. BUT HE WILL NEVER OVERDO HIMSELF.”

  • NLC voids convention that returned Abure as LP chairman

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has nullified the national convention that returned the Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

The NLC took the decision at a stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday in Abuja.

Abure was re-elected for another term through affirmation by delegates at the LP national convention held on March 27 in Nnewi, Anambra State.

The NLC had earlier demanded the chairman’s resignation and the immediate constitution of a caretaker transition committee to organise a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention for the party.

In a communique issued at the end of Monday’s meeting, stakeholders directed the congress to set up a transition committee to oversee the affairs of the party pending when new officers will be elected in three months.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the NLC Political Commission, Prof Theophilus Ndubuaku, former NLC President, Abdulwahed Omar, Chairman, LP Board of Trustees, Sylvester Ejiofor, Coordinator of Obidient Movement, Dr. Moses Paul and LP governorship in Plateau State, Chief Yohana Margif, among others.

The communique read: “Owing to the current vacuum in the leadership of the Labour Party, the NLC Political Commission consequent on its status in the Constitution of the Labour Party as a registered trustee of the Labour Party, a status that was further buttressed by a Federal High Court consent judgment delivered on March 20, 2018 by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, moved for an immediate constitution of a transition committee with a mandate to set up structures at national, state, local government and ward level for the conduct of an all-inclusive and expansive national convention of the Labour Party.

“The stakeholders meeting passed a vote of no-confidence on the purported Labour Party national convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State and regards as inconsequential the leadership that claims to have emerged from the illegal Nnewi Convention. INEC and all relevant security organisations are hereby notified and should be officially written immediately to recognise the transition committee as the interim leadership of LP pending the conduct of an all-inclusive and expansive national convention

“The committee once constituted should fully take over the secretariats of the Labour Party all over Nigeria and shall immediately set up an assets recovery process of all the properties of the Labour Party.

“The committee shall also ensure that all the cases of fraud, impersonation and forgery of government documents pending against a few discredited former officers of the Labour Party are forensically audited and culprits are diligently prosecuted as demanded by the leader of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi. Unfortunately, the actions of these few dishonourable characters have splashed mud on the white satin of the Labour Party.

“Pursuant to the foregoing, the committee shall within three months of its constitution ensure the conduct of an inclusive national convention of the party starting from ward congresses to local government congresses to state congresses culminating in an all-inclusive and expansive national convention in Abuja. Finally, we reiterate that the Labour Party is a Party for all Nigerians regardless of ethnic, religious, regional, social and economic orientation or status.”

  • Shun Cyber Crime, EFCC Chairman Warns Youths

Shun Cyber Crime, EFCC Chairman Warns Youths

Shun Cyber Crime, EFCC Chairman Warns Youths

The Executive Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has called on youths to shun cybercrime and other forms of criminality.

The EFCC chairman made this call in Benin-City, Edo State while speaking on a programme ‘Youth Empowerment Against Cybercrime” organised by Cybersecurity Education Initiatives ,CYSED, a non-profit organisation dedicated to cybercrime prevention.

The EFCC boss who was represented by Williams Oseghale, Head, Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Command warned the youths to stay away from cybercrime as the consequences were grave. He stated that the laws empower the Commission to arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable.

“Don’t be tempted or lured by the ostentatious lifestyle of other youths because the Commission will continue to arrest and prosecute anyone that is involved.

In the last few years, the Commission has secured thousands of convictions of persons involved in cybercrime, many have been stripped of their illegally acquired properties. So they have ended in shame. There is no escape route for those involved in cybercrime,” he said

He stated that there was no shortcut to wealth and urged the youths to use the internet to innovate and create positive economic growth. “The internet does not necessarily have to be an avenue to impersonate, manipulate and fabricate lies to defraud others. Let the youths begin to use the internet for socially desirable things like offering digital solutions to the needs of industries, homes, governments and other engagement of life.”

Moses Joshua, Executive Director, CYSED, said the essence of the programme was to build mental strength in youths to resist cybercrime and other Serious Organised Crime SOC. “It is to enhance knowledge and awareness about the adverse effects of SOC and establish a sustainable impact through virtual space. We expect to see increased positive behavioural change in target beneficiaries and a reduction in SOC activities within the community,” he said

  • Coastal Highway: Tinubu Slams Atiku For ‘Poor Research, Futile Attempt’ To Discredit Lagos-Calabar Project

    Tinubu-vs-Atiku

In a scathing rebuke, the presidency has hit back at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his criticism of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project which the State House described as one of President Bola Tinubu’s signature infrastructure initiatives.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, accused Atiku of making “false allusions” and “ill-thought-out allegations” in a bid to “denigrate and find faults” in the project.

Onanuga refuted Atiku’s claims that the highway project was previously awarded to other companies at varying costs, stating that the contract previously awarded was for a coastal rail project during the Muhammadu Buhari administrations, not the highway project.

“Contrary to the claims in Atiku’s endorsed press statement, at no time did the administrations of former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan award contracts for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway to any company at any varied and revised amount,” the presidency clarified.

Atiku had through his media aide, Paul Ibe, accused Tinubu of re-awarding the 700km Lagos – Calabar Coastal highway project to Hitech Construction Company Limited without any record of competitive bidding or approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The former vice president also alleged that the award was shrouded in secrecy as the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, failed to disclose the contractual amount involved in the project.

But Onanuga also refuted Atiku’s allegations of a non-competitive bidding process and a lack of transparency in the project.

He urged Atiku to act like a statesman and do proper research instead of engaging in “fruitless exercise that does not add any value to nation-building”.

The presidential aide advised the former Vice President and his team to “return to the Library for real facts” rather than rushing to cast aspersions on President Tinubu and his administration.

Part of the statement reads, “Seeking to be a kill-joy, Atiku Abubakar engaged in red-herring by raising ill-thought-out allegations that only exposed his inadequacies and those of his team in getting the basic facts on an issue he badly seeks to nail the government.

“We have decided, however, to respond to Atiku’s misrepresentation of facts in matters of the coastal road if only to set the record straight so that unsuspecting Nigerians are not misled and misinformed. We owe it a sacred duty to ensure Atiku and his handlers do not continue to spread disinformation as they wallow in their politics of hatred.

“Contrary to the claims in Atiku’s endorsed press statement, at no time did the administrations of former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan award contracts for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway to any company at any varied and revised amount.

“So the question of costs comparison does not arise.

“The contract that was awarded was that of Lagos-Calabar Coastal rail. The rail was designed as part of the standard guage national rail network. The contract was awarded on August 4, 2021 by the Federal Executive Council presided over by former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN at the cost of $11.17billion. The contract was to be completed in six years. The project didn’t take off.

“The Lagos-Calabar Coastal rail project has always been on the card. It was another testament of the failure of the previous PDP-led government that it could not get it off the ground in 16 years it held sway.

“The Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway and Lagos-Calabar Coastal rail are two distinct projects. It is unfortunate that the former Vice President is confused about the two projects.”

Onanuga added, “Atiku queried the decision to start the Coastal road from Lagos and not Calabar, oblivious of the huge impact such will make on export-import flow around the industrial zones.

“We are at a loss as to what the former VP hopes to achieve with his assertion. Is it not a received wisdom that a thousand miles journey begins with a step? Whether the project begins from Lagos or Calabar, Warri or Sapele, what should gladden the heart of any patriotic Nigerian is that this important project that has been in the pipeline for several decades has finally taken off.”

  • BREAKING: Nigeria To Miss UEFA U16 Tournament As Spanish Embassy Denies Team Visa

This was made known on Monday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in a post on its X platform handle.

Nigeria has lost the chance to participate in the UEFA U16 Development Tournament starting on Friday as the Spanish Embassy denied Nigeria’s Future Eagles U15 players official visa with no reason given.

This was made known on Monday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in a post on its X platform handle.

The NFF said, “Players and officials of the Nigeria U15 team, Future Eagles, have been denied visas by the Spanish Embassy and will therefore not be travelling to take part in the UEFA U16 Development Tournament starting on Friday.”

Nigeria’s Future Eagles U15 team were to fly into Spain on Tuesday afternoon for the tournament following an invitation for the Africa’s most populous country to participate in the tournament.

The NFF said that the special invitation for Nigeria to take part in the tournament came as a result of the country’s pedigree in youth football, in which she has won five world titles at U17 boys’ level and reached the FIFA World Cup final on two occasions at U20 level.

The Future Eagles had trained for a week at the Remo Stars’ Sports Institute in Ikenne, during which it played two matches against the Remo Stars’ U16 boys (Beyond Limits FC), winning one and losing the other.

The Future Eagles’ delegation to Spain which included 20 players, was to be led by a member of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Zannah Mohammed Malah.

  • EFCC warns schools, hotels, others against charging in dollar

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has warned schools, supermarkets, hotels, and others in the country against charging for services in dollars or any other foreign currency.

Olukoyede, who issued the warning in the latest edition of the commission’s monthly e-magazine, EFCC Alert released on Monday, threatened to jail anyone found “dollarizing” the economy.

He warned that anyone caught collecting the dollar for services or goods would be treated as a criminal in accordance with relevant Nigerian laws.

The EFCC chief vowed that the commission would go after schools, supermarkets, hotels, estate developers and business operators that used the dollar for transactions instead of naira.

He said: “We have also started securing convictions.

“Schools that charge Nigerians in dollars, supermarkets that trade in dollars, estate developers that sell their property in dollars, hotels that are invoicing in dollars, we are coming after you and we have made arrests in that area.

“Yes, if foreigners are coming in and the only means of transacting is their credit card, and dollar, why not, you will get that.

“But document it properly as against selling things within the system, local economy and you will be using the dollar as the medium of exchange, it is illegal.

“Our law does not allow for that. And we have also effected some arrests.

“We are not going to relent. We are going to continue until we eradicate mutilation of currency, and illegal dealing in forex. Another area is in the area of illegal forex trading.

“Coupled with the activities of the CBN, we are trying to ensure that those involved in currency trading are properly licensed, regulated, and do their documentation properly.”
