  • We Will Soon Reveal Duplications, Inserted Projects In 2024 Budget – ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has said it will soon reveal a detailed analysis of the 2024 budget.

The Commission said this in a press release on Saturday through Demola Bakare, Director, Public Enlightenment and Education/Spokesperson, while making a rebuttal to accusations of being a toothless dog bulldog.

ICPC announced that it discovered duplications, inserted projects in the 2024 budget.

“It should be noted that the results of Phase 6 of ICPC projects tracking/CEPTi, which is larger in value than the last 5 phases combined, is ready with detailed analysis of the 2024 Budget indicating discoveries such as budget duplications, inserted projects etc.

“In due course, the Honourable Chairman of the Commission will be addressing the media to provide more insights into ICPC’s operational activities regarding its numerous anti-corruption initiatives,” Bakare said.

According to him, ICPC therefore “Condemns the inaccurate depiction” that it’s a toothless bulldog.

“Contrary to the sensational depiction” of being a toothless bulldog, “the ICPC wishes to reaffirm its robust efforts in combating corruption across Nigeria.

“The Commission is actively pursuing numerous cases in various states of the Federation, exemplifying its unwavering commitment to upholding integrity and accountability.

“Among the on-going legal proceedings is a notable 22-million-naira contract scam currently under litigation at the Federal High Court in Makurdi, Benue State.”

Bakare emphasised that it also has other cases which are being pursued in federal high courts located in Abuja, Plateau, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Nasarawa States, demonstrating the breadth and depth of ICPC’s operations.

The director said it is therefore regrettable that some unsubstantiated claims have been published against it without verifying facts with the ICPC or checking with any courts of record.

“For avoidance of doubts, the ICPC has conducted thorough investigations into alleged infractions by members of the political class, including Senators and members of the House of Representatives, especially regarding the execution of FG funded constituency projects, with a view to fostering accountability and ethical conduct in public service.”

Bakare also noted that the hard truth, from available facts is that, because its clear objectives of tracking exercise to ensure proper execution of government funded projects, certain public officials are being prosecuted across the states and quite a number of staff of MDAs are also on suspension or interdiction for issues bordering on project infractions.”

ICPC said a very large number of contractors (more than 200) over the last 5 phases of its projects tracking, have been compelled to return to complete long abandoned projects, adding that recoveries in cash and assets between 2019-2022 were also made in billions of naira.

“For sure, ICPC will enforce the law with integrity but will not succumb to engaging in media trials or undue entertainment of any type,” Bakare said.

  • BREAKING: Repentant Boko Haram Member Enlisted Into Nigerian Army Slits Woman’s Throat In Enugu Barracks, Hides Corpse

Private Mohammed Adamu with service number 21NA/80/0365 has been identified as the alleged killer of the woman who was stabbed inside the 82nd (Airborne and Amphibious) Division of the Nigerian Army, top sources on Saturday told SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters had exclusively reported how the lifeless body of the woman wearing hijab was discovered on Friday by the daughter of an army lieutenant around the division’s officers quarters.

“A lifeless body of a lady who was stabbed by an unknown person was discovered yesterday in 82 division barracks,” a source had said.

“The body was discovered by the daughter of an Army lieutenant who was taking food to her dad who is working on their farm somewhere around the division officers quarters

“And the knife used in killing the same lady was dropped off close to the body while the body was wrapped with the hijab she was wearing.”

While the army authorities have refused to comment on the incident, SaharaReporters learnt on Saturday evening that the killer has been identified as Pte Mohammed Adamu working with the division’s legal service.

Adamu and the deceased which was identified as Hauwa were said to be lovers.

According to two senior military officers who spoke to SaharaReporters, the suspect (soldier) was a repented Boko Haram member who after his repentance joined the Civilian Joint Task Force and was later enlisted into the Nigerian Army in the year 2021.

The Nigerian Army had between 2020 and 2021 absorbed 400 members of the civilian JTF into its fold to assist in prosecuting the war against Boko Haram terrorists.

“The suspect behind the murder of Miss Hauwa, the hijab woman is 21NA/80/0365 Pte Mohammed Adamu of 82Div legal services.

“Unfortunately, Pte Mohammed Adamu is a repented Boko Haram member who after his repentance joined the civilian JTF. It was from being a CJTF that he was enlisted into the Army in the year 2021.

“Investigation revealed that Miss Hauwa and Pte Mohammed Adamu were both lovers and from same town in Biu local government area of Borno state. He, Pte Mohammed Adamu paid her transport to come over to Enugu and killed her. He is currently in custody of the military police and his statement has been taken in which he confessed to the act.

“The late Hauwa was pregnant for Pte Adamu Mohammed before he slit her throat, stabbed her belly multiple times and tied her up in the bush near the 82Div officers quarters, on the early hours of Friday 12th of April.

“In his statement, Pte Mohammed Adamu claimed that the pregnancy the late Hauwa was carrying wasn’t his own, and he is not ready to father any child yet and he lured her out.”

When confronted that the Nigerian army had denied recruiting ex-Boko Haram into the military, the source said, “Not everything the army headquarters will agree to, we in the system understand better.

“These are the people we work with everyday. They repent first and join the CJTF, it’s from the CTJF that they do join the military. That’s how it’s being done, not that they do join immediately after repentance.

“We have lots of them, one of the guys in my unit then, late Pte Abdalla from Yobe State was a repented boko Haram.”

Another source also confirmed the arrest of Adamu as the killer of the pregnant woman.

“I know Mohammed Adamu is in custody of the military police and has narrated that he killed miss Hauwa and stabbed the baby in her stomach

“Adamu is the bathman to Major HY Shehu, the persecuting counsel and also DDLS of 82 Division. He killed her with pregnancy over alleged infidelity and her body has been deposited at the 82 division military hospital.

“The body was discovered by the daughter of Lieutenant A Jackson on her way to meet her dad in the farm.”

  • You Are Huge Joker – Ondo APC Aspirants Tackle Governor Aiyedatiwa Over ‘No Vacancy’ Comment

Some of the governorship aspirants vying for the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State have knocked the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for declaring that there is no vacancy at the state government house, Akure.

SaharaReporters had reported that at the APC national secretariat on Friday in Abuja, shortly after his screening ahead of the party’s primary election slated for April 20, Aiyedatiwa had said there was no vacancy for the office of governor in Ondo State.

He had stressed that he was the best man for the job, adding that his WAEC certificate was not forged and mischief makers must desist and repent.

He had said, “I will just advise them to repent and try to go to the field and work. They are interested in the seat, and the seat is not vacant, that is why they are trying to do all that they are doing.
“You see, we are all indigenes of Ondo State and we are all qualified to run to be the governor of Ondo State, but there is a sitting governor. I have the structures; the people and the competence.”

But reacting after his screening, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim said, “The governor is a huge joker; he is joking. It’s a big joke. He is out of that place. At the end of the primary, he will be gone. What is the governor talking about? He has never won an election.”

Similarly, Chief Olusola Oke, another aspirant said the governor’s statement was a ploy to undermine the democratic process.

He said, “It’s a statement of wish and desire by the governor, and it’s a statement that is intended to undermine a democratic exercise. If we are going to the primary and the people will have to determine, how would anybody have the guts to say there is no vacancy?

“There is no vacancy between now and February next year, no doubt, but after February, his one-year term will be exhausted and then there will be a vacancy.”

Another aspirant, Dr Olusoji Ehinlanwo, also said Aiyedatiwa is not a threat to his ambition.
