  • Man, 33, dismembered teen college student, 19, after she met him for a date night

Man, 33, dismembered teen college student, 19, after she met him for a date night

A man from Milwaukee, US, allegedly murdered a college student after a date and then dismembered her body with a saw and spread the remains across the city, according to court documents.

Maxwell Anderson, 33, was charged with murder on Friday, April 12, for allegedly killing 19-year-old Sade Carleena Robinson, who vanished after excitedly heading out for a date allegedly with him on April 1.

Robinson was studying criminal justice at Milwaukee Area Technical College.

She reportedly chatted with an employee in her apartment building about how excited she was to be going on a date that night, according to a criminal complaint against Anderson.

“I’m feeling seafood,” she texted the suspect before the pair met up to eat.

When Robinson failed to show up at the pizza joint where she worked the next day, friends and coworkers began to raise alarms.

Police made a welfare check at her home but failed to find Robinson.

On April 3 Robinson’s car, a 2020 Honda Civic, was discovered severely burnt on a North Milwaukee street corner.

The remains of clothing that matched the outfit she’d worn to the date were found scorched inside.

Later that day, a human leg which had been “sawn off” was found miles away on Lake Michigan beach park, with DNA matching it to Robinson, according to the complaint.

Days later, a foot and pieces of human flesh were discovered in several locations near where Robinson’s car was found.

Anderson was arrested on April 4 after surveillance footage and witness accounts linked him to the date night with Robinson, and an apparent effort to hide her remains.

Workers at the Twisted Fisherman restaurant confirmed the pair dined there on April 1 before heading to a downtown bar.

Robinson’s phone indicated she went to Anderson’s home after 9 p.m., the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

After midnight her phone began to ping at several locations across Milwaukee, before finally dying around 4:30 a.m. near the beach park where her severed leg was discovered.

Footage from the park showed a car matching Robinson’s and a person walking back and forth from the car to the beach.

Hours later the burnt Honda was found miles north, and Anderson was seen riding a bus away from the area towards his home.

“The Defendant intentionally killed and then dismembered Robinson with the intent to conceal the homicide, and it occurred between the arrival at the Defendant’s residence and his departure from the Warnimont Park area,” the complaint says, according to CNN.

A search for the rest of Robinson’s remains is ongoing.

Her family is distraught over the painful way she died.

Robinson’s mother, Sheena Scarbrough, called Anderson a “sick son of a bitch” after he was charged.

“Who the **** would do something like this to my beautiful baby? She hurt nobody. She harmed nobody,” she said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The suspect has at least three convictions for domestic incidents dating back to 2014, including an incident where he beat a man who intervened while Anderson was arguing with a woman on a public street.

He now faces charges of first-degree homicide, mutilating a corpse, and arson.

  • Organised labour presents fresh N615K minimum wage demand to Nigerian govt

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have tabled a fresh N615,000 as the new minimum wage for workers to cope with the harsh economic realities and high cost of living in the country.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero confirmed the development to Channels Television on Sunday.

According to Ajaero, the new wage of N615,000 monthly was reached after consultations between the NLC and the TUC.

The labour unions said the current minimum wage of N30,000 can no longer cater for the wellbeing of an average Nigerian worker, adding that not all governors are paying the current wage award which will expire by April, five years after the Minimum Wage Act of 2019 was signed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Act is to be reviewed every five years to meet up with contemporary economic demands of workers.

The NLC and the TUC have at various times called on President Bola Tinubu to hasten the upward review of wage awards.

Earlier in January, the Federal Government inaugurated a 37-man Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage with a mandate to recommend a new National Minimum Wage for the country.

The NLC had proposed N1 million as the new minimum wage due to the rising inflation in the country which had pushed many into poverty.

While the TUC demanded N447,000 as the new monthly minimum wage per worker, the NLC later requested N794,000 per worker.

But it was gathered that the two unions in a fresh proposal to the government, presented N615,000 as the new minimum wage for workers.

The unions said inflation — which stood at 31.70% as of February 2024 — has affected the cost of living for an average Nigerian worker

They noted that state governors can afford to pay every public servant because they now get more monthly revenue allocation by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

  • Recoveries From Betta Edu, Other Humanitarian Affairs Ministry Officials Hit N32.7bn, $445,000 -EFCC

Following the recent controversy surrounding Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development involving alleged misappropriation of N30bn, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally opened up to clear the air and offer clarifications.

Last week, news made the rounds that N30bn was allegedly linked to the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, Betta Edu, and that 50 bank accounts in which money were transferred to were also linked to her.

Reacting to this development, the EFCC issued a statement through its spokesman, Dele Oyewale on Sunday evening, saying it has ” noticed the rising tide of commentaries, opinions, assumptions and insinuations concerning its progressive investigations into the alleged financial misappropriation” in the Ministry.

Oyewale said, ” At the outset of investigations, past and suspended officials of the Humanitarian Ministry were invited by the Commission and investigations into the alleged fraud involving them have yielded the recovery of N32.7bn and $445,000 so far.

“Discreet investigations by the EFCC have opened other fraudulent dealings involving Covid -19 funds, the World Bank loan, Abacha recovered loot released to the Ministry by the Federal Government to execute its poverty alleviation mandate.

“Investigations have also linked several interdicted and suspended officials of the Ministry to the alleged financial malfeasance.”

He noted that EFCC is investigating a system and intricate web of fraudulent practices.

He also mentioned that banks involved in the alleged fraud are being investigated.

Oyewale said: “Managing Directors of the indicted banks have made useful statements to investigators digging into the infractions. Those found wanting will be prosecuted accordingly”

He also pointed out that EFCC has not cleared anyone allegedly involved in the fraud.

“Investigations are ongoing and advancing steadily. The public is enjoined to ignore any claim to the contrary,” he said.

He also addressed the recent controversy surrounding Naira abuse, where a Nigerian popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky, was sentenced for mutilating the naira.

The issue had also raised controversy with individuals and public figures accusing thr EFCC of wrongly jailing the cross-dresser without an option of fine.

But Oyewale said, ” On the issue of the works of the Commission against Naira abuse, dollarization of the economy and the enforcement of all extant laws relating to them, the EFCC appreciates the avalanche of public awakening, support and involvement demonstrated so far. Increasingly, members of the public are drawing the attention of the Commission to video recording of abuse of the Naira by Nigerians from all walks of life.

“These gestures amply demonstrate rising consciousness of the public to the sanctity of our national currency and the need for collaborative engagement to sustain the tempo.

“To this end, the Commission will always investigate and prosecute anyone involved in the abuse of the Naira. Old videos being exhumed and flying around for the attention of the Commission are noted as the Commission is sensitive to the fact that its Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarization of the economy commenced operations on February 7, 2024.”

It added that at the moment, the Commission is investigating several celebrities involved in Naira abuse.

“Many of them have made useful statements to the Commission and many more have been invited by investigators working on the matter.

“The EFCC will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime,” the spokesman said.
