  • ‘I Regret Embarrassing Church Member During Testimony’ — Dunamis Pastor Enenche Reacts To Sunday Incident

Following criticism that followed the treatment of a church member during her testimony, the General Overseer of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has apologised to Ms Veronica Anyim over the incident during the church service on Sunday, saying he regrets his actions.

A viral video had earlier made rounds showing Enenche accusing the woman of lying about being a Law graduate, since then, the matter has generated controversy with the public calling him out to apologise over such wrong accusations.

However, in a press statement issued on Monday by Sylvester Edoh, Personal Assistant Secretary to the Senior Pastor, he said: “As a Commission, we regret every inconvenience, hurt and embarrassment this unfortunate scenario has caused to Ms Anyim Veronica Nnenna. We remain committed to her physical welfare as well as her spiritual growth.

“It must be pointed out clearly here that embarrassing the testifier publicly with the attendant media frenzy was never intended; whatever happened was under the spur of the moment.

“The action of the Senior Pastor was rather based on his and the church’s aversion to seeming mediocracy and any appearance of untruth.”

Enenche said while the church remained resolute in its passion for excellence, intolerance of mediocrity and falsehood, it wished to reiterate that no harm or hurt was intended byr Pastor against Ms. Anyim Veronica.

He said the impression that the minimum standard expectation of a graduate, especially a graduate of Law, was not met going by her manner of speech delivered by Anyim at the pulpit.

He said: “Secondly, stating that she studied Law for 10 years begged the question of what her degree actually was.

“Third, she was unable to state exactly what the correct degree was for Law which is LLB, rather she said it was a BSc in Law which is largely unknown as a Law degree in Nigeria and possibly globally.”

According to him, these were what prompted his action saying she was lying.

  • Prince Harry loses appeal to overturn ruling against his personal security in U.K

Prince Harry loses appeal to overturn ruling against his personal security in U.K

Prince Harry has lost his bid to appeal after losing his battle with the Home Office over his personal security arrangements when he visits the UK.

The Duke of Sussex has also been ordered to pay 90 per cent of their legal costs for defending his challenge, which came after he was told he would no longer be given the “same degree” of publicly-funded protection when in the country.

Prince Harry took legal action over the February 2020 decision of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) after being told he would no longer be given the “same degree” of publicly-funded protection when in the country.

In February, retired High Court judge Sir Peter Lane rejected the Duke’s case and concluded Ravec’s approach was not irrational nor procedurally unfair.

However, giving a ruling on Monday, April 15, Sir Peter said that Harry should pay most of the Home Office’s legal costs, but said the government department had committed “breaches” during the legal battle which were “sanctionable”.

    The Judge said;

“They have resulted in the case being largely contested by reference to new grounds, which have not been subjected to the normal permission process.

“The breaches resulted from misapprehensions on the part of the defendant as to the duty of disclosure, which this decision has had to address at some length. It is therefore right that there should be a modest but still significant reduction in the award of costs to the defendant.”

Harry lives in the United States with wife Meghan and their two children after the couple announced they were stepping back as senior royals in January 2020. He returned briefly to the UK on February 6 following his father’s cancer diagnosis.

  • Soldiers Accuse Army Commander In Borno, Lt Col Ajiya Of Sending Them On ‘Death Errands,’ Refusing To Repair Unit Vehicles

Some soldiers of the Nigerian Army have decried the activities of the Commanding Officer of 81 Division Task Force Battalion at Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State, Lt Col SJ Ajiya, which have caused several deaths of their colleagues.

Some of the soldiers who spoke to SaharaReporters on the condition of anonymity, stated that since Ajiya became their Commander, they have recorded several unwarranted deaths of soldiers because of his negligence.

According to the sources, few weeks ago, seven soldiers were killed in one day because of Ajiya’s negligence and refusal to carry the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle for patrol. “Two are still in critical condition as we speak,” one of the soldiers revealed.

Recounting some alleged unprofessional conducts of the commander, the soldiers alleged that “he sends soldiers on useless errands to Koibe” a development that led to one soldier “Pte Salako entering the mines and he died”. “In fact, for him to burry that soldier becomes a problem,” the aggrieved soldier narrated, adding that “the commander did not want to burry him,” despite the fact that he was the one who sent him to his death.

Narrating further, the soldiers lamented the death of Warrant Officer Charles Nwogu 93NA, the unit Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) that has few years to go on retirement and Pte Ugwu Daniel with so many others seriously injured because, Lt Col SJ Ajiya refused to fix the unit vehicles, which led to a fatal accident when they went to buy fuel.

“The CO has refused to fix the unit vehicles to the extent that our two trucks are down. As a result, he started to use Hilux to carry fuel from town and some soldiers had an accident. Unfortunately, we lost WO Charles Nwogu 93NA the unit RSM that has few years to go on retirement and Pte Ugwu Daniel. Some others with injuries were rushed to the teaching hospital in Maiduguri.

“Since he became our Commander, bad things have been happening in our unit.

“This CO (Commanding officer) has no value for soldiers’ lives. He is always risking our lives and he talks to everybody anyhow. Even the officers he insults them in front of soldiers,” the soldiers lamented, while calling for help.

SaharaReporters’ efforts to get the reaction of the Nigerian Army authorities were unsuccessful as the spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu could not be reached on telephone as of the time of filing this report.

  • Matawalle to Northern appointees: Stand with Tinubu or exit

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle has challenged political appointees from the north to give total support to President Bola Tinubu.

Matawalle’s call came after the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, expressed a different opinion about the minister’s defence of Tinubu’s administration.

On Saturday, the minister slammed the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for saying it regretted supporting Tinubu in the 2023 general election.

He described the action of the NEF as a political burden on the North.

In a statement on Monday, Matawalle said as an appointee of the current administration, Baba-Ahmed must work towards its success and protect it from unwarranted criticism rooted in ethnic or narrow interests.

The statement read: “Consequent to my position on the recent attack on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR by a spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, it has come to my attention that Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed who once served as the Spokesperson of the group and currently a Special Adviser on Political Matters in the Presidency took to his page on it to express a different position.

“According to Dr. Baba-Ahmed, my stand against the unjust and spurious attack against the new administration of President Tinubu which is working very hard to reposition our country and economy for the better is ‘ill-advised’. He suggested I could have done a better job in my defence of the administration where I have the rare honour of serving as a Minister.

“Dr. Baba-Ahmed’s relationship and affinity with the NEF is well-known. The fact now is that he is an appointee of the administration as Special Adviser and it is incumbent on him to work for the success of the government he is part of, protect and defend the government against unjust and vicious attacks from those who hide under ethnic and other primordial interests to heat the polity for myopic reasons.

“This is not the time to keep quiet in the face of intimidation and misrepresentation of the efforts and achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. We must stand up to be counted for being on the part of the government or take our exit.”

  • 2024 UTME: Candidates Found With Parents Within Exam Centres Will Be Sanctioned-JAMB

Ahead of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned that candidates who arrived 30 minutes late will not be allowed to sit the examination and would be marked as absent.

Recall that the examination is scheduled to be held between Friday, 19th April, 2024, and Monday, 29th April 2024, in over 700 CBT centres nationwide.

The Board in its Weekly Bulletin made available by its Spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin disclosed that 1, 985, 642 candidates will be sitting for this year’s examination.

While stating that plans have been concluded to ensure the success of the examination, JAMB urged all candidates to ensure that they print the notification slip before the start of the examination.

“To signal the commencement of the process, candidates have been directed to print their 2024 UTME notification slips, which would enable them to know their examination centre as well as the date and time of their examination.

“Similarly, candidates are enjoined to adhere to the etiquettes and guidelines of the examination as stipulated in their notification slips and be at the venue of their examination at the scheduled time so as to afford them the opportunity of going through biometric verification prior to their admittance into the examination hall.

“Any candidate, who is 30 minutes late, would not be allowed to sit the examination and would be marked as absent. The Board also reiterates its zero tolerance for examination infractions and other unwholesome practices that could be detrimental to the conduct of the examination,” the Board stated.

It also warned candidates to steer clear of all the prohibited items, which have been banned from the examination centres.

“These items have been noted to have aided some dishonest candidates in their quest to perpetrate examination malpractice hence, the ban on these items is to protect the sanctity of the Board’s examinations.

“Some of these items are: smart watches, smart lens (unprescribed glasses), calculators, smart rings, smart pens, bluetooth devices, flash drives, among others. Candidates are also advised to desist from the practice of using decorative designs or tattoos on their palms as these can impact their biometric screening at the centre,” it said.

JAMB also warned the parents of the candidates to refrain from being around the examination premises, as the Board strictly prohibits parents from being present during the examination.

“Any candidate found with a parent in the examination vicinity will face penalties,” it said.
