  • Bobrisky moved from Ikoyi to Kirkiri prison

Bobrisky moved from Ikoyi to Kirkiri prison

Controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, has been relocated from the Ikoyi Correctional Center to the Kirikiri Prison by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

Recall that after he was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment for Naira Abuse last Friday, April 12, the judge ordered that he be remanded in Ikoyi correctional center in Lagos.

Leadership however reports that the social media personality has been discreetly transferred to Kirikiri Prison.

    A source was quoted as saying;

“It is procedural that he is moved to Kirikiri since it is an expansive prison compared to what we have here.”

The source added that due to security reasons, Okuneye was quietly moved to the facility where he will serve his term.

  • How Nigerian Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Mislead Followers By Pushing Malaria Vaccine Conspiracy Theories –Report

A prominent Nigerian pastor, Chris Oyakhilome has been accused of pushing false information against malaria vaccines.

In a report published by BBC on Thursday, the media platform analysed how Mr Oyakhilome misquoted a clip from a TED talk Bill Gates gave in 2010 during one of his sermons in August 2023.

The pastor claimed Gates was among “those who have an agenda for depopulation of the world”.

While giving a talk on reducing carbon dioxide emissions, Mr Gates said: “First, we’ve got population. The world today has 6.8 billion people. That’s headed up to about nine billion. Now, if we do a really great job on new vaccines, health care, reproductive health services, we could lower that by, perhaps, 10 or 15%.”

Bill Gates’ assertion was said to have been misunderstood by Pastor Oyakhilome and this made him mislead his large followers.

Mr Gates did not advocate for the world’s depopulation, according to the BBC.

Gates has clarified in the past that he saw population growth and health improvement as complementary: “When health improves, families choose to have less kids.”

Mr Oyakhilome also claimed that the World Mosquito Program facility in Colombia belonged to the Gates Foundation, accusing it of producing genetically modified mosquitoes as a strategy for depopulation.

The mosquito factory, which was designed to diminish mosquitoes’ ability to transmit viruses, is part of a non-profit network of firms owned by Monash University in Australia, and it has stated that its process does not use genetically modified organisms.

Pastor Oyakhilome is no stranger to anti-vaccination misinformation. He has recently targeted the HPV vaccine, which is designed to prevent women from cervical cancer.

“They have something else up their sleeve. It’s not about cancer,” he said during a service aired on 2 September 2023.

Nigeria launched a widespread immunisation campaign for girls in October 2023 in an effort to dramatically lower cervical cancer rates. Every year, about 8,000 Nigerian women die as a result of this disease.

In 2021, a major study financed by Cancer Research UK discovered that the HPV vaccine reduced cervical cancer cases by over 90 percent. Pastor Oyakhilome has already made numerous erroneous assertions regarding anti-tetanus shots, polio vaccines, and other paediatric immunisations.

The report said the pastor also falsely stated that the messenger RNA vaccine alters the DNA.

However, immunization does not affect people’s DNA. It takes a portion of a virus’s genetic material, or messenger RNA, to train the immune system to detect it and manufacture antibodies.

During the Covid pandemic, British media regulator Ofcom fined Pastor Oyakhilome’s congregation £125,000 ($155,000).

It said his network Loveworld, broadcast in the UK, showed “misleading and potentially harmful statements about the coronavirus pandemic and vaccines”.

Mr Ogunro, the writer who left the church, said he was worried about the pastor’s influence.

“His claims about vaccination scare me. We need to find a way to regulate preachers like him.”

  • Cardoso defends CBN’s backing of naira, says it’s not responsible for FX reserve’s depletion

    Olayemi Cardoso

In an attempted defence of the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) to defend the domestic currency, the naira, the governor of the apex bank has distanced the decision from the depletion of the foreign exchange reserve.

Cardoso gave this defence during an interactive session with Abebe Aemro Selassie, the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) director of the African department on the sideline of the ongoing Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington, on Wednesday.

Ripples Nigeria had earlier reported that Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange reserves dipped by over $2bn in less than a month plunging it to its lowest level in six years.

Experts and economists have blamed this declining reserves on the decision of the apex bank to aggressively defend the naira.

Reacting to this, Cardoso disagreed, saying the shift in the reserves had little or nothing to do with the defence of the naira.

“It is not our intention to defend the naira. The shifts you’ve seen in our reserves has really little or nothing to do with defending any naira and that’s certainly not our objective.”

“We are looking toward ensuring that we have a market that operates on its own: Willing buyer. Willing seller. Price discovery,” he said.

“Ultimately, I perceive a future where the central bank will really not need to intervene except in very, very unusual circumstances. What is important to us is that there’s sufficient liquidity in the market.”

The currency of Africa’s largest oil producer has recovered most of its losses since a 43% devaluation in January. The move follows 600 basis points of monetary tightening in February and March and a raft of other steps by the central bank to improve local dollar liquidity and clear a $7 billion backlog of foreign currency orders.

Rather, Cardoso said the rise in the currency was a sign that the central bank had convinced investors that it was willing to do whatever was necessary to stabilize inflation.

The turnaround in the naira’s fortunes has been a roller-coaster. After years of being pegged at an artificially strong level against the dollar, foreign exchange reforms in June began a decline that at one point had wiped more than 70% from its value against the greenback before it began to rally in mid-March.

“When I started, we had a situation where within a month or two we were regarded as having the worst performing currency of any country,” he said.

“Six months later we are judged to have the best performing currency of any country. I think those things speak for themselves.”

  • NOUN Graduates Can Now Go For NYSC Scheme, Law School As Tinubu Directs Inclusion

Graduates of the National Open University Nigeria(NOUN) can now heave a sigh of relief as the President Bola Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Education to include them in the National Open University in the National Youth Service Corps scheme.

Before now, the NYSC has been issuing ‘Letter of Exclusion from National Service’ to graduates of the institution.

The President has also resolved the longstanding admittance of NOUN Law graduates to participate in Law School in the country for equal opportunities.

Tinubu disclosed this during his presentation at the 13th convocation ceremony of NOUN, at the university’s Convocation Arena, Jabi, Abuja.

The president who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission(NUC) Biodun Saliu, however stated that the NOUN graduates that will go for services must fall within the age bracket as allowed by the law.

“With the changing demographics of our great nation, the government has recognised the importance of allowing NOUN graduates to participate in the NYSC scheme.

“The doors of the Law School are now open to the graduates, ensuring equal opportunities for all. Any remaining concerns or uncertainties should be promptly addressed by the Federal Ministry of Education.

“We will continue to do this in order to improve quality, access, and affordability.

“Government is, therefore, committed through the Federal Ministry of Education and the NUC to provide the enabling environment to ensure a good delivery of this mode of education in Nigeria,” he said.

He also pledged his administration’s commitment to enhancing ODL to expand access to higher education across the nation, emphasizing that the utilisation of ODL is essential for meeting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

The president expressed satisfaction with what NOUN has become, stressing that it is a central figure in advancing the government’s commitment to achieving educational goals through ICT.

“We will continue to do this in order to improve quality access and affordability.

“Government is therefore, committed through the Federal Ministry of Education and NUC to provide the enabling environment to ensure a good delivery of this mode of education n Nigeria,” he said.

  • Prince Harry renounces British residency as he declares US his ‘new country’

Prince Harry renounces British residency as he declares US his ?new country?

Prince Harry has listed the United States as his primary residence for the first time since severing his ties to the royal family in 2020.

According to documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Harry, the Duke of Sussex recently updated his housing records, stating that his “New Country/State Usually Resident” is now the US,

Although the documents submitted by Companies House for Harry’s eco-travel venture, Travalyst were filed on Wednesday, Harry notably listed the “date of change” as June 29, 2023.

Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, officially moved out of their home in the United Kingdom on June 28 three months after King Charles III evicted them from the property, known as Frogmore Cottage.

Its unclear if Harry renouncing his British residency will impact any of his royal titles but he will meet his father next month while visiting London.

Despite the legal change, Harry explained in December 2023 that he still considered the UK to be his “home” but felt “forced” to flee to the US due to safety concerns.

“The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the US,” the duke said in a written statement read in a London court amid his legal bid for taxpayer-funded police security — which was denied.

“That cannot happen if it’s not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil.”

Harry has also expressed interest in getting his American citizenship.

“The American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind, but certainly is not something that is a high priority for me right now,” he told “Good Morning America” in February.

Harry and Markle have lived in California with their two children for the last four years, and according to the former, they likely will stay there for a while.

“It’s amazing,” he said of West Coast living. “I love every single day.”

  • Terrorists Openly Escort, Exchange Greetings With Expatriate Working On Gusau-Sokoto Road

The gang repeatedly said, “Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal Wakeel’, meaning, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and (He is) the best Disposer of affairs.”

A video showing terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits cracking jokes with an expatriate in an open field, has gone viral.

The location, names of the bandits or the identity of the white man could not yet be verified but Zagazola Makama, a counter insurgency expert, identified the spot as Gusau – Sokoto road.

“Dreaded bandit kingpin Mai-Jakka is shown cracking jokes freely with one of the construction company’s engineers handling Gusau – Sokoto road,” he tweeted.

The gang repeatedly said, “Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal Wakeel’, meaning, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and (He is) the best Disposer of affairs.”

One of the bandits in dreadlocks, who seemed to be the leader of the gang with a rifle hanging from his right arm, was seen joking and holding the white man from behind.

One of them said, “Here is a white man in the flesh,” as the white man jokingly urged the deadlocked gang leader to hold him well.

“Allahu Akbar! The deadlocked man was not killed. It’s a fat lie. He was not killed.”

  • EFCC warns Nigerians against obstructing operatives on duties

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned Nigerians against obstructing its operatives from carrying out their duties.

The EFCC gave the warning in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, in Abuja.

The commission was reacting to attempts by security aides attached to former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to stop operatives from arresting their principal at his Abuja home.

The statement read: “The EFCC wishes to warn members of the public that it is a criminal offence to obstruct officers of the commission from carrying out their lawful duties.

“Section 38(2)(a(b) of the EFCC Establishment Act makes it an offence to prevent officers of the commission from carrying out their lawful duties. Culprits risk a jail term of not less than five years.

“This warning becomes necessary against the background of the increasing tendency by persons and groups under investigation by the commission to take the laws into their hands by recruiting thugs to obstruct lawful operations of the EFCC.

“On several occasions, operatives of the commission have had to exercise utmost restraint in the face of such provocation to avoid a breakdown of law and order. Regrettably, such disposition is being construed as a sign of weakness.

“The commission, therefore, warns that it will henceforth not tolerate any attempt by any person or organisation to obstruct its operation as such will be met with appropriate punitive actions.”
