    Anambra 2025: We have no special candidate in the guber race, INEC

    The Anambra State Resident Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Queen Elizabeth Ugwu, has announced that the Commission under her watch has no special candidate for the November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state.

    Ugwu made the announcement while briefing journalists at the state commission’s headquarters in Awka, on Wednesday, to intimate the media on it readiness ahead of the electoral process.

    She urged the public to disregard any information about any rumour that the Commission under her watch have a special candidate for the race.

    According to her, the briefing is also to seek the media collaboration and to officially informed Anambra electorates that INEC is fully technologically and logistically prepared for the three elections (Anambra South Senatorial District bye election, Onitsha North one Constituency bye- election and the November 8, 2025 guber poll, all taking place this year in the state.

    The Commission’s preparedness towards the three elections is on top gear.

    “We are going to ensure a free play ground for all the contesting candidate and for the electorates to decide whose governed them come November 8, 2025.

    “We are appealing to you the media to support and work cooperatively with the INEC to conduct a credible election in the state.

    The Commissioner used the event to again commend the media and security agencies on their vital roles they showcase during the 2023 general elections in the state.

    Organize your members for rerun election, INEC urges political parties in C’River

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on political parties to organize their members in the forthcoming rerun election in Cross River communities.

    This was disclosed by Prof. Gabriel Yomere, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Cross River during the 2023 Carnival Calabar street party on Thursday in Calabar.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that INEC came out with its own decorated but non competing float with inscriptions such a as “keep and protect your voter’s card” and “prepare for the forthcoming rerun election.”

    Yomere said if the political parties had organized their members, avoiding violence, ballot box snatching among other irregularities, there would have been no need for a rerun.

    “We are having a rerun election in Akamkpa/Biase and Obanliku/Yala Federal Constituencies, so, I am pleading with political parties, let orderliness be the watch ward.

    “They should educate their members to refrain from irregularities or cause trouble around voting areas so that voters can have the confidence to come out and carry out their civic responsibilities without fear of intimidation,” he said.

    He maintained that the carnival was a good avenue for them to sensitizes the people on the activities of INEC noting that electioneering was a continuous process.

    He added that those that could not collect the voter’s cards before the 2023 General Elections should wait for the pronouncement of INEC for when and where they could go and collect their cards.

    Similarly, Mr Obi Effanga, INEC REC in Bayelsa who visited to partake in the carnival activities said he came to support the commission in Cross River for its Sensitisation exercise.

    He asserted that Carnival Calabar is the biggest street party in Africa and a veritable platform to sensitize people on the activities of INEC in and out of election seasons.

    He added that they were also preparing for the rerun election that would take place in Bayelsa state.
