  • Heartbreak for Nigeria as England call-up Dominic Solanke

Dominic Solanke has been recalled to England’s national team for the first time since 2017, effectively ending any chance of him representing Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Solanke, eligible for Nigeria through his father, had long been a target for the Nigerian Football Federation, but his latest call-up to the Three Lions squad confirms his future lies with England.

Solanke first gained attention for England’s youth teams, helping them win the U17 European Championship in 2014 and the U20 World Cup in 2017. However, despite his early promise, the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker had not featured in the senior team since his debut against Brazil in 2017.

Now, after a seven-year absence from the England squad, Solanke has been called up for England’s UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and Finland, thanks to his impressive form for Bournemouth. He has scored three goals in six games this season, following his 21 goals in 42 appearances last season.

Nigerian fans had hoped Solanke might switch allegiances and play for the Super Eagles during his long absence from the England squad. However, his recent selection for England has dashed those hopes, as playing in the upcoming matches will tie him to the Three Lions permanently.

Solanke’s recall is a blow to the Nigerian national team, which has been keen to recruit talented players with Nigerian heritage. Now, Solanke is set to continue his international career with England, as they aim to win the UEFA Nations League for the first time.

  • Abdallah backs highly physical Montpellier forward for Super Eagles call-up

Former Heartland coach Hassan Abdallah has urged the Nigerian Football Federation to consider Montpellier striker Akor Adams for the Super Eagles, citing his impressive strength and performances in Ligue 1.

Adams, who has scored 57 goals and provided 18 assists in 145 European matches, has yet to receive his first cap for Nigeria’s senior team despite featuring in the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup.

Abdallah, who scouted both Adams and Victor Boniface, believes Adams’ physical dominance would offer Nigeria a unique dimension in attack.

“Akor has more strength than Boniface. He can bully defenders, but his intelligence is 50-50,” Abdallah told Brila FM. “When Akor is played between central defenders, they don’t move forward; they have to wait.”

Adams’ professional career began in Norway with Sogndal in 2018. After a strong rebound from injury, he joined Lillestrøm in 2021 and later Montpellier in 2023.

The 24-year-old striker has impressed in Ligue 1, scoring 10 goals in 33 appearances in his debut season and adding three goals and two assists in six matches this season.

Despite stiff competition from top forwards like Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Kelechi Iheanacho, Abdallah insists Adams’ strength and physical presence make him an asset.

“He has the power, and we need someone like that,” Abdallah concluded.

As Nigeria seeks to bolster its attack, Akor Adams’ case for a Super Eagles call-up grows stronger.

    Key Statistics:

    – 57 goals, 18 assists in 145 European matches
    – 10 goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Montpellier (2023)
    – 3 goals, 2 assists in 6 Ligue 1 matches this season
    – 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup participant

With Abdallah’s endorsement, Akor Adams’ prospects for a Super Eagles debut look promising.

Will Adams receive his first senior cap soon? Only time will tell.

  • Kennedy Boboye drags Heartland to court over unpaid wages

The Nigerian football scene has been rocked by a shocking development, as renowned coach Kennedy Boboye has initiated legal proceedings against Heartland FC over an outstanding debt of nineteen million naira (19,000,000).

Boboye, a two-time NPFL winner, was dismissed by the Naze Millionaires just a month after his appointment, following an order from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to reinstate the late coach Christian Obi.

According to Boboye, he left the club without any issues but has yet to receive his outstanding wages after his contract was terminated.

“I left without any issues, but they have refused to pay my outstanding wages after terminating my contract.

It’s been almost a year now, and they seem unwilling to resolve it,” he stated. This prolonged delay has prompted Boboye to seek justice through the courts.

The dispute stems from Boboye’s brief tenure as Heartland FC coach, which was abruptly cut short by Governor Uzodinma’s intervention.

Despite his short stint, Boboye is entitled to his unpaid wages, which Heartland management has failed to settle.

Repeated attempts to contact the club have yielded no response, leaving Boboye with no choice but to seek legal recourse.

This development highlights the persistent issues plaguing Nigerian football, including unpaid wages and poor administrative practices.
