  • Shockwaves at Chelsea: Mykhailo Mudryk fails drug test

    Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has expressed his shock after testing positive for a banned substance during a routine drug test.

    The club confirmed on Tuesday that they had been contacted by the Football Association (FA) regarding the “adverse finding” from the 23-year-old Ukrainian international’s sample.

    In a statement posted on Instagram, Mudryk denied knowingly using any prohibited substances.

    “This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules,” Mudryk wrote. “I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened. I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon.”

    Chelsea issued a statement supporting Mudryk, pledging to assist him in determining the cause of the failed test.

    Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has provided a promising update on his injury, suggesting that he could return to action much earlier than initially expected.

    The Lagos-born forward, who plays for Galatasaray in the Turkish Süper Lig, had been sidelined after suffering a muscle injury during a 2-3 victory over Sivasspor.

    The 2024 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League came to a thrilling conclusion with Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) emerging victorious in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively.

    Women’s Category: NCS Dominates

    The women’s competition saw the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) rise above the rest to claim the championship title with an impressive 63 points. Their performance throughout the league was formidable, securing their position as the top team.

    The CNS Spikers gave a strong challenge, finishing second with 59 points, while the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) rounded out the top three with 58 points.

    Other notable teams included the COAS Spikers, who secured fourth place with 45 points, and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Rockets, who finished fifth with 41 points.

    In the middle of the standings, LifeCamp and Benue Queens both earned 29 points, with LifeCamp claiming sixth place due to a tiebreaker. Benue Queens finished seventh.

    The Kada Emeralds finished eighth with 25 points, while Olalomi Royal VC and Anambra Queens completed the top ten with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

    Unfortunately, the Nigeria Immigration Service and Kwara United VC faced relegation after finishing in the 11th and 12th positions.

    Men’s Category: CNS Spikers Lead

    In the men’s category, the CNS Spikers emerged as champions with 56 points, narrowly edging out Offa VC, who finished second with 53 points.

    The Sunshine Spikers and Nigeria Correctional Service both earned 35 points, taking the seventh and eighth positions, respectively.

    Kano Pillars ended in ninth place with 19 points, while NSCDC rounded out the top ten with 18 points.

    As with the women’s competition, the Nigeria Immigration Service and Spartan Spikers found themselves facing relegation, finishing in 11th and 12th positions.
