  • Youssoufa Moukoko’s age Scandal: is he really 24?

Youssoufa Moukoko, once hailed as one of the brightest teenage talents in European football, is back in the spotlight—this time not for his on-field performances, but for a growing controversy surrounding his age and identity.

The Borussia Dortmund striker, currently on loan at French club Nice, is facing explosive allegations after a documentary aired by German broadcaster ProSieben raised serious questions about his true age.

    Explosive Allegations

In the documentary Tricks, Cheats, Deception – The Million Dollar Business with Football Talent, former associates of Moukoko, including a man named Joseph Moukoko (who previously claimed to be the footballer’s father), allege that the striker is actually 24 years old, not 20 as he has officially claimed. The documentary also suggests that Moukoko’s real name might be different from the one used publicly throughout his career.

Joseph Moukoko asserts that he played a significant role in falsifying his son’s age and documents in order to enhance his football career prospects in Europe. He claims that Borussia Dortmund, Moukoko’s long-time club, was aware of these manipulations, though the club has denied any wrongdoing.

    Dortmund’s Response

In response to the allegations, Borussia Dortmund quickly issued a statement defending Moukoko’s official records, which were provided by German authorities and are still considered valid. The club emphasized that these documents were used for all official purposes, including his representation with the German national team. Dortmund’s stance makes it clear that they stand by the legality of Moukoko’s age and identity, and that his eligibility to play is supported by official government-issued paperwork.

What This Means for Moukoko’s Career

If the claims are proven true, it would mean that Moukoko has been playing overage for much of his career, including during Germany’s Under-21 European Championship win in 2021. This revelation could shake the foundations of Moukoko’s career, especially considering that his rise to prominence was largely built on his status as a “teen prodigy.”

A player’s age can have a significant impact on their value in the transfer market, and younger players typically command higher fees due to the potential for growth. If Moukoko is, in fact, older than his official records suggest, it could harm his marketability and raise questions about his past achievements.

However, it’s important to note that Moukoko’s footballing ability remains unaffected by his age. His technical skills and potential as a player are still as significant as ever, but his status as one of the hottest young talents in Europe could be diminished.

Age Scandals in Football: A Pattern

Moukoko’s situation is not unique within German football, or even internationally. In 2021, Stuttgart’s Silas Katompa Mvumpa (previously known as Silas Wamangituka) revealed that he had been playing under a false name and had also been a year older than initially claimed. The scandal resulted in a €30,000 fine and a suspension from the German Football Association (DFB).

In 2019, Hamburg’s Bakery Jatta faced similar questions about his identity when reports suggested he had falsified his age and background. However, no conclusive evidence was found, and the case was dismissed.

Age manipulation is a known issue in football, particularly for players from African countries where document verification can sometimes be lax. In 2023, a major scandal emerged in Cameroon when 21 players from an under-17 team were banned for age falsification after failing MRI tests.

    What’s Next for Moukoko?

At present, Moukoko remains free to play for Nice in Ligue 1 and to represent the German national team, with whom he featured at the 2022 World Cup. However, with his form dipping in recent months and the controversy swirling around his true age, the future of his career is now uncertain.

While the allegations have yet to be fully verified, they cast a shadow over what was once seen as an incredibly promising football career. For now, Moukoko’s status as a player will likely remain intact, but the controversy surrounding his age could have lasting repercussions—both on his reputation and his future prospects in the sport.

As investigations continue and more details emerge, the football world will be watching closely to see how this story unfolds.

  • Mohammed Kudus named Europe’s top dribbler

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has been crowned the most successful dribbler in Europe’s top five leagues for 2024, cementing his status as one of the continent’s brightest young talents.

Kudus has been a revelation since his move to West Ham United from Ajax in 2023, and his dribbling statistics are a testament to his technical brilliance.

    Europe’s Top Dribbler: A Record-Breaking Year

Kudus has completed an astonishing 121 successful dribbles so far this year, 25 more than any other player in the top five leagues, according to Squawka. His ability to glide past defenders has made him a standout performer, showcasing his flair and creativity.

The Ghanaian’s dribbling ability has not only earned him praise from fans and pundits alike, but it has also helped establish him as one of the most exciting and unpredictable players in European football.

A Stellar Debut Season at West Ham

In his first Premier League season, Kudus hit the ground running with 14 goals and six assists, quickly becoming a key figure in David Moyes’ West Ham side. His combination of technical skill, dribbling prowess, and sharp vision saw him earn comparisons to some of the best attacking midfielders in the league.

The 24-year-old’s arrival at the London Stadium injected much-needed creativity into West Ham’s attack, making him one of the Premier League’s most talked-about players.

Off-Field Controversy: A Suspension and Setback

Kudus’ season hit a bump in October when he was suspended for violent conduct during West Ham’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur, missing five games. • Usyk vs. Fury 2: a clash of heavyweight titans

As Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury prepare to face off once again on December 21, the comparison between their records offers a fascinating insight into how the rematch may unfold.

Both fighters have achieved greatness in the heavyweight division, but their contrasting styles, physical attributes, and career trajectories make this encounter a contest of fine margins.

    Usyk’s Unbeaten Record: 22-0-0 (14 KOs)

At 37 years old, Oleksandr Usyk stands as one of boxing’s finest tacticians. The Ukrainian southpaw has made history by becoming the first four-belt heavyweight champion of the modern era, having previously ruled at cruiserweight as well.

Usyk is unbeaten in 22 professional bouts, with 14 wins by knockout. His superb boxing brain and outstanding movement in the ring are his defining attributes.

Usyk’s most notable victories include his historic win over Anthony Joshua to capture the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles, and his dominant victory over Daniel Dubois.

His win over Fury in their first meeting was, undoubtedly, the pinnacle of his career, and he showed every inch of his skill in that narrow victory.

Usyk’s ability to control the pace, break down opponents, and execute precise body shots has made him one of the toughest and most technical fighters in the world today.

    Fury’s Stellar Career: 34-1-1 (24 KOs)

Tyson Fury, at 36 years old, brings a wealth of experience into this rematch. Standing at 6’9″ with a significant reach advantage over Usyk, Fury uses his size and athleticism to his advantage.

His unique blend of agility, unpredictability, and raw power has made him a nightmare for many top fighters.

Fury’s unbeaten streak came to an end when he lost to Usyk in their first meeting, marking his first defeat in 16 years as a professional boxer.

Fury’s record now stands at 34 wins, one loss, and one draw, with 24 knockouts to his name.

The loss to Usyk remains the only blemish on his career, with his best victories coming over Deontay Wilder in their trilogy, Wladimir Klitschko to claim the heavyweight crown, and Dillian Whyte.

Fury’s ability to recover from adversity, such as in his famous fight against Wilder, makes him a formidable opponent, but the pressure is on him to avenge the loss to Usyk in their rematch.

    Fury’s Experience vs. Usyk’s Freshness

Despite Fury’s extensive experience, Usyk is the fresher fighter in terms of ring activity. Usyk has competed in 14 fewer fights than Fury, with his professional record standing at 22 bouts compared to Fury’s 36.

Additionally, Fury has boxed a substantial 242 rounds over his career, whereas Usyk has completed 189.

This difference in accumulated rounds may play a significant role as both fighters near their 40s. While Fury has more wear and tear from a longer career, Usyk’s relative freshness could be a key factor in the rematch.

    The Belts at Stake

Usyk will defend his WBA, WBO, and WBC heavyweight titles. However, unlike their first fight, the IBF belt is not on the line, as Usyk was forced to vacate it after his victory over Fury.

    READ MORE:greek-nigerian-drops-triple-double-to-steal-nba-cup-for-bucks

The absence of the IBF belt means that the rematch is not for the official undisputed heavyweight title, but Usyk’s Ring Magazine heavyweight title is still up for grabs.

What Happened in the First Fight?

The first bout between Usyk and Fury in May 2024 was a historic encounter that lived up to the hype. Usyk showed tactical brilliance in the opening rounds, using his movement and technique to frustrate Fury.

However, Fury attempted to assert his size and power, and at one point, his showboating backfired. Usyk slowly started to break him down, investing in body shots and even coming close to stopping Fury in the ninth round.

Fury was given a standing count, but to his credit, he recovered and won the 12th and final round. The judges’ scorecards read 115-112 and 114-113 in Usyk’s favor, with the third judge scoring it 114-113 for Fury.

    A Rematch for the Ages

With both fighters bringing their best to the ring, the rematch is expected to be a tactical and thrilling affair. Will Fury use his size and reach to outpoint Usyk, or will Usyk’s boxing intelligence and movement prevail once more?

As the heavyweight division hangs in the balance, the stage is set for another historic night of boxing on December 21 in Riyadh.

The Bucks became the second team to win the mid-season tournament, which was introduced last year, in a captivating final held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Antetokounmpo’s impressive stat line of 26 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists earned him the title of the NBA Cup’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The Greek-Nigerian forward’s all-around excellence was pivotal in securing the Bucks’ victory, as they powered through the Thunder to claim the inaugural tournament title.

Supporting Antetokounmpo was Damian Lillard, who contributed 23 points to the win. The Thunder, meanwhile, were led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who managed 21 points but struggled with his shooting, finishing just 8-for-24 from the field. Despite Gilgeous-Alexander’s efforts, the Thunder struggled to match the Bucks’ intensity, particularly on defense.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, with the Bucks holding a narrow 51-50 lead at the break. However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter, where Milwaukee outscored Oklahoma City 26-14, extending their lead to 77-64 heading into the final period.

“We came in focused and locked in,” Antetokounmpo said after the win. “We played great basketball as a team, and we were able to accomplish our goal. I’m so proud of the group.”

The Bucks’ victory in the NBA Cup is a significant milestone for the team and adds another trophy to their growing collection. For Antetokounmpo, it was a performance that underscored his stature as one of the league’s most influential players.

  • NPFL 2024: Ikorodu City fined N3m over security breach

Ikorodu City Football Club has been slapped with a N3 million fine by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following a security breach during their home match against Remo Stars last weekend.

The NPFL match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, was marred by an incident where Remo Stars’ assistant coach, Kamil Sulaiman, was assaulted by supporters of Ikorodu City after the final whistle.

The NPFL has taken decisive action against the Lagos-based club, citing their failure to provide adequate security at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, where the game was held. The security lapse allowed the violent altercation to occur, leading to the assault on Sulaiman.

In addition to the financial penalty, Ikorodu City has been ordered to play their next two home games behind closed doors, denying their fans the opportunity to attend matches as part of the punishment. The league also directed the club to identify and prosecute the individual responsible for the attack on the Remo Stars coach.

The incident has drawn significant concern over the safety of players and officials during NPFL matches. The league’s ruling highlights the need for clubs to ensure proper security measures are in place to prevent such occurrences and maintain the integrity of the competition.

The club is expected to comply with the NPFL’s directives and address the security concerns raised by the league organizers.

The game, which was set to take place at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, Abia State, will not be played on the new date as planned, following a request from the Aba-based side to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) organizers.

NPFL letter to Nasarrawa United confirming postponement of the match

Enyimba’s request for the postponement comes after the club suffered a tough 3-0 loss to Mozambique’s Black Bulls Maputo in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
