  • Stanley Eguma vows to shock Zamalek in must-win clash

Enyimba coach Stanley Eguma remains determined to guide his team to qualification despite a tough challenge ahead in Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Zamalek at the Cairo Stadium.

With Zamalek already secured in the next round, the Egyptians are focused on extending their unbeaten streak, while Enyimba, who currently sit in third place with five points, must win to have a chance at advancing.

For Zamalek, pride and maintaining momentum are at stake, and Mohamed Hamdy, a key player in Christian Gross’ side, made it clear that their aim is victory.

“We cannot afford to lose because our pride is at stake,” Hamdy told Flashscore. “Although we are through to the next round, we want to finish the group stage unbeaten. This game is very important, and we’ll treat it with the same intensity as every other match.”

Hamdy, who has been instrumental in Zamalek’s impressive run, is determined to finish top of Group D. Their first encounter with Enyimba ended in a 2-2 draw in Uyo, with Zamalek initially leading 2-0 before Enyimba made a dramatic comeback.

Despite their unbeaten record, Hamdy warned against complacency: “Enyimba are a strong, physical team. We know they will come for the win, but we won’t underestimate them.”

Meanwhile, Enyimba’s Eguma is not ready to concede defeat despite the tough road ahead. After their 1-1 draw against Al Masry, the Nigerian side is hoping for a positive result in Cairo.

“We had a slow start against Al Masry, and that cost us, but it’s not over yet,” said Eguma. “We still have one more game, and if teams like Al Masry can perform here, there’s no reason we can’t go to Egypt and get a favorable result.”

Eguma’s side, despite their struggles, remains determined to capitalize on their experience. “Zamalek is a big team, but we’ve won the CAF Champions League twice. We know what it takes,” Eguma added. “We’re not giving up. We believe we can still get a positive result.”

  • Samuel Chukwueze: Super Eagles winger’s AC Milan future at risk as he returns from injury and coaching shake-up

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is expected to return to training with AC Milan next week after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in late December.

Chukwueze, 25, season at AC Milan has been a mixed one, with three goals and one assist in 22 appearances. However, most of his appearances have come as a substitute, as he has struggled to break into the starting lineup ahead of Christian Pulisic.

Unfortunately, his hamstring injury, which occurred on December 29, put any transfer plans on hold, as no club would consider signing an injured player.

The injury was initially expected to sideline him for about a month, but his recovery is reportedly progressing well.

According to Sempre Milan, Chukwueze is on track to return to light training next week, with plans to fully rejoin the team by the end of January.

He is likely to be available for AC Milan’s Milan derby against Inter Milan on February 2 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.

  • Osasuna lands Nigerian prodigy Sixtus Ogbuehi on loan – Is he the next big Star?

Spanish club CA Osasuna has secured the signing of young Nigerian striker Sixtus Ogbuehi on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent.

Ogbuehi, who was called up to Nigeria’s U23 team in 2023, will initially join Osasuna’s reserve team, Osasuna Promesas, which plays in the Primera Federación.

This move provides the 21-year-old with an opportunity to restart his career after a challenging spell at Club Deportivo Eldense in Spain’s La Liga Hypermotion.

The Nigerian forward, who began his career at Campos FC in Owerri, Nigeria, has shown steady progression in his career. After impressing in the Nigerian National League with nine goals in 16 appearances during the 2021/22 season, Ogbuehi moved to Spain.

He had stints at Spanish clubs Moralo and Ceuta B, where he demonstrated his goalscoring abilities, netting 18 goals across both clubs in the Spanish Fifth Division last season.

His strong performances earned him a move to Eldense in the Second Division, a significant leap of three divisions. However, opportunities were scarce at Eldense, with the 192-centimeter striker making just five league appearances and one Copa del Rey outing this season.

Now, Ogbuehi joins Osasuna Promesas, who are currently 11th in the Primera Federación – Group 2, with 25 points. The team is looking to strengthen its attack for the second half of the season.

Ogbuehi is expected to bring his physicality and goal-scoring instinct to help head coach Santi Castillejo’s side climb the standings.

The Pamplona-based club announced the deal on their official website, highlighting the voluntary purchase clause that allows them to make Ogbuehi’s transfer permanent if he impresses during his loan spell.

  • Okon set for trial with Dynamo Kyiv: Is a European move on the Horizon?

SuperSport United defender Ime Okon is taking a significant step in his burgeoning career as he heads to Ukraine for a trial with Dynamo Kyiv.

The 20-year-old is eager to make his first move to Europe, with Dynamo Kyiv offering him the opportunity to prove himself during the trial, which could result in an immediate contract offer.

Okon left South Africa over the weekend to join the Ukrainian giants, who are currently leading the Ukrainian Premier League after 17 matches and also competing in the UEFA Europa League.

This is not the first time Okon has caught the eye of clubs abroad. The center-back has previously attracted interest from teams in England, Belgium, and Denmark, but none of these potential transfers came to fruition.

His trial at Dynamo Kyiv marks a crucial point in his career, which has been on the rise since he was promoted to SuperSport United’s senior team for the 2023/24 season.

Under the guidance of head coach Gavin Hunt, Okon quickly established himself as a regular starter, making 33 appearances in his debut campaign.

His solid performances earned him a call-up to South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana, by coach Hugo Broos, although he has yet to make his international debut.

Okon’s international future is still up in the air, as he is eligible to play for both South Africa and Nigeria. While he has been involved with South Africa’s national team, a move to Ukraine and the chance to join Nigeria’s rebuilding Super Eagles could sway his decision.

  • Kelechi Iheanacho: Al Ahly leads chase for struggling Sevilla forward

Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho is at the center of a heated transfer battle as Egyptian giants Al Ahly emerge as strong contenders to sign the 28-year-old from Sevilla.

After joining the Spanish club on a free transfer from Leicester City in July 2024, Iheanacho’s time in La Liga has been far from ideal. Despite scoring three goals in two Copa del Rey appearances, he has failed to replicate that form in the league, going nine games without a goal or assist.

Sevilla, frustrated by his lack of impact, is reportedly open to letting the Nigerian leave on a loan deal with an option to buy in January.

    Al Ahly’s Ambitious Move

Al Ahly, the reigning African champions, are determined to bolster their attack and view Iheanacho as the perfect replacement for Percy Tau, who is reportedly close to leaving the club.

Securing a player of Iheanacho’s caliber would be a significant coup for the Cairo-based side, as they aim to maintain their dominance on the continent.

However, the competition for Iheanacho’s signature is fierce. English Championship side Watford has expressed strong interest in a loan deal, while clubs in Greece, Turkey, and the USA are also monitoring his availability.

    Iheanacho’s Proven Pedigree

Despite his struggles in Spain, Iheanacho’s career accomplishments make him a highly sought-after target. At Manchester City, he became the club’s highest-scoring Nigerian player, netting 21 goals and providing seven assists in 64 appearances.

His contributions were equally crucial at Leicester City, where he played pivotal roles in their 2021 FA Cup and Community Shield victories.

READ MORE:Okon set for trial with Dynamo Kyiv: Is a European move on the Horizon?

For Al Ahly, adding Iheanacho to their squad would bring a wealth of experience, goal-scoring instincts, and a fresh dimension to their attacking options.

    Sevilla Looks to Move On

Sevilla is eager to resolve Iheanacho’s future as they seek to balance their squad. Having signed the Nigerian on a two-year deal, the Spanish club is now focused on offloading players who have not lived up to expectations.

Iheanacho’s next move remains a hot topic. Whether he chooses Al Ahly, Watford, or another destination, the Nigerian star’s decision could be a turning point in his career—and a game-changer for his next club.

  • Onuachu set for January Transfer– will Southampton let him go?

Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor are reportedly ready to resume their chase for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu this January, as they look to bring the prolific forward back to Turkey.

Onuachu’s future has been uncertain over the past year. After joining Southampton from Genk two seasons ago, the Nigerian striker struggled for game time due to managerial preferences.

Last season, Onuachu moved on loan to Trabzonspor, where he impressed with 17 goals and 4 assists in 25 appearances. His stellar performances led to speculation that the Turkish side might pursue a permanent deal, but negotiations with Southampton fell through, leaving Onuachu in Hampshire.

This season has been a mixed bag for Onuachu. He struggled to get minutes at Southampton until December, but things changed with the arrival of coach Ivan Juric, who replaced Russell Martin.

READ MORE:Okon set for trial with Dynamo Kyiv: Is a European move on the Horizon?

Under Juric’s guidance, Onuachu has seen a boost in playing time. Despite this, rumors persist that the 30-year-old forward could still leave the Premier League club.

According to reports from The Saints Centre, Trabzonspor is set to reignite talks with Southampton this January to acquire Onuachu’s services. The Turkish side is likely to push for a loan move, although Southampton is expected to demand a fee exceeding €12 million for a permanent transfer.

While Juric appears to value Onuachu, the striker’s future remains uncertain. It could be challenging for Trabzonspor to secure a deal if the coach wants to retain the Nigerian’s services.

The next few weeks could be crucial in determining Onuachu’s fate.

  • Iwobi joins elite African group with Premier League milestone

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has etched his name in Premier League history, becoming only the fifth African player to register at least 50 appearances for three different clubs in the competition.

This milestone came during Fulham’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Facing Premier League strugglers Ipswich Town, Fulham entered the match as favorites but encountered a spirited performance from the Tractor Boys. Despite being in the starting lineup, Iwobi had a subdued first half, as Ipswich took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Iwobi’s day ended early when he was substituted for Rodrigo Muniz in the 63rd minute. However, the game exploded into action after his departure.

Fulham equalized in the 69th minute when Raul Jimenez converted from the penalty spot. Ipswich responded almost immediately, with Liam Delap restoring their lead just two minutes later. Fulham salvaged a point in stoppage time, thanks to another Jimenez strike, ensuring a 2-2 final score.

While Iwobi didn’t shine individually, the match marked a significant achievement in his career. According to Opta Joe, he joined an exclusive list of African players to make 50+ Premier League appearances for three different clubs.

The Nigerian international made his Premier League debut for Arsenal during the 2015/16 season, eventually amassing 100 appearances for the Gunners. After moving to Everton in 2019, Iwobi played 123 games over four years before transferring to Fulham in 2023. His outing against Ipswich brought his Premier League tally for the Cottagers to 50 appearances.

Iwobi now joins African football legends Nwankwo Kanu (Arsenal, Portsmouth, West Brom), El Hadji Diouf (Liverpool, Bolton, Blackburn), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton), and Mohamed Diamé (Wigan, West Ham, Newcastle) in this prestigious group.
