  • American doctor describes ‘incomparable’ impacts on children in Gaza

An American doctor on Sunday detailed the worsening circumstances of Gaza’s medical facilities and dwindling supplies, describing it as “incomparable,” to the various other war zones she has worked in.

Nahreen Ahmed, a critical care specialist from Pennsylvania, reflected on her two-week work stint in Naseer, Gaza, during an interview with CBS News’s “60 Minutes,” published on Sunday.

“We have mass casualties coming in in waves at [the] hospital. That’s happening at least three or four times a night,” Ahmed said, adding later, “So…a regular day for me was seeing children with shrapnel injuries I have never in my life seen before, with traumatic brain injury. Death happening in a fully treatable situation because the supplies are not available.”

Ahmed told CBS News that medicine and supplies shortages are worsening the conditions in Gaza.

“It’s basic medications. It’s pain medication. There’re people getting limbs amputated without any anesthesia,” she said. “That’s what we’re seeing on a day to day basis. And I can tell you that things that we have put into the pipeline to get to Gaza can often take weeks to months.”

Asked how the situation in Gaza compares to other war zones she has worked in, Ahmed said, “It is– incomparable, I would say.  I don’t think I’ve seen this many– children affected in any of the other war zones I’ve ever been to.”

Her remarks echo those of other recent warnings from humanitarian agencies, including the chief of the World Health Organization (WHO), who called the enclave a “death zone,” last week.

More than 29,000 people have died in Gaza since the onset of Israel’s war with Palestinian militant group Hamas in early October. The war was sparked by Hamas’s surprise Oct. 7 assault on southern Israel that left about 1,200 people dead and saw about 250 others taken hostage.

Calls for a cease-fire in the conflict have increased in recent weeks as the death toll in Gaza — which has been ruled by Hamas since 2007 — continues to climb. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netaytanhu has largely rejected these calls, arguing it would be a “victory” for Hamas if Israeli forces do not eliminate the group.

Ahmed also spoke on the experience of operating and performing medical procedures on those injured while the area around medical facilities is bombarded by fighting.

“I don’t think I’ve been this close to the sound of missile strikes– with the house shaking, where the hospital is shaking while I’m trying to operate in the ICU,” she said, adding later, “We go into, like, medical mission mode. So bombs going off or not– we are absolutely focused on what’s in front of us. Is it terrifying? Yes, of course. Do we think about it after the fact? Absolutely.”

  • Klay Thompson thriving as sixth man

SAN FRANCISCO — For nine minutes on Sunday, Klay Thompson looked like an emerging candidate for NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

Coming off the bench for the fourth time since he was taken out of the starting lineup on Valentine’s Day, Thompson scored 21 points in his first nine minutes to put the Warriors ahead early against the Denver Nuggets.

It wasn’t enough, as Nikola Jokic continued his historic season to lead the Nuggets to a second-half comeback in a 119-103 win over the Warriors at Chase Center.

But it was another opportunity for Warriors coach Steve Kerr to nod his head in approval as he watched Thompson thrive in a bench role for the first time since his rookie season in 2011.

“His approach feels so much better than it was even a few weeks ago,” Kerr said.

A few weeks ago, Thompson sounded distraught. He was benched in closing time during a close win over the Brooklyn Nets and told reporters in New York he was struggling mentally.

“You kidding me? Go from, you know, one of the best players … it’s hard for anybody,” he told ESPN. “I’ll be honest with you. It’s very hard.”

It took him a few days to recenter himself. It wasn’t until the All-Star break that Thompson said he felt refreshed.

He’s played three games since, averaging just 13 points a game, but operating more mindfully around the floor, Steph Curry said.

“Even the game he only had three points (against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday), it was one of the better all around floor games he’s had,” Curry said. “He took what the defense gave him, took the shots he was supposed to shoot. Most of them didn’t go in but the way the game flows and how he gets his opportunities, he was always making the right play, playing great defense, got us some rebounds, extra possessions that way.”

And he’s still getting playing time. Off the bench, Thompson has averaged 27 minutes, only three minutes fewer than he was averaging as a starter.

“I never looked at coming off the bench as a demotion considering I’m still playing 25-30 minutes a night,” he said.

Sunday, Thompson replaced rookie Brandin Podziemski with 6:55 remaining in the first quarter and took over the game with some hot shooting from behind the arc. He buried four 3-pointers to help put the Warriors up, 36-30, after the first quarter.

With five points early in the second, Thompson had collected a stunning 21 points in just nine minutes of work.

The Warriors faded in the final minutes of the second quarter and were out-played completely in the third, but Thompson still finished the game with a team-high 23 points.

He started the game 5-for-8 from behind the arc, but went 0-for-5 to finish his night. Kerr said he felt the fast pace of the first half worked in Thompson’s favor, making it easier for him to get free.

Overall, Thompson is 9-for-25 (.360) from 3-point range since the All-Star break. On the season, he’s shooting a career-worst .372.

“This has been an emotional season for him,” Kerr. “You guys know this, he’s been grappling with his mortality in some ways as an athlete. He knows how good he was six years ago. He’s had a hard time reconciling everything after the injuries.

“The thing we keep trying to convince him of is that he’s still a hell of a player. And he’s at his best when he’s not pressing and he’s not stressed out, worried about trying to be the guy he was six years ago. I think coming off the bench has maybe helped in that regard. I just noticed he’s more relaxed. His approach, his leadership in the locker room, it feels different.”

According to ESPN, Thompson’s streak of 727 consecutive starts was the fourth-longest active streak in the NBA, trailing only Curry, DeMar DeRozan and Damian Lillard. That streak was snapped following a 4-for-14 performance against the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 14 that sank Thompson’s overall shooting percentage to a career-worst .415.

  • Ambassador: China ‘is the most important, most competitive, and most dangerous relationship’ the US has

Nicholas Burns, the U.S. ambassador to China, revealed concerns over the impact of tense relations between the U.S. and China, calling the East Asia country the “most important,” yet “most dangerous relationship” the U.S. has.

Burns, speaking with CBS News’s “60 Minutes,” said he is nervous for the U.S.’s relationship with China as ongoing tensions and mistrust continue to disrupt the confidence of the business world.

Asked if it is the U.S.’s most competitive relationship, Burns said, “This is the most important, most competitive, and most dangerous relationship that the United States has in the world right now and will, I think, for the next decade or so.”

Burns said the two countries must “live together,” and argued this point is the greatest area of tension between the two nations.

“China’s our most significant competitor, and at the same time, China is our third largest trade partner — 750,000 American jobs at stake. Agriculture — China’s the largest market for U.S. agriculture — one-fifth of all of our export…products from agriculture are sent to China. That was $40.9 billion last year,” he said.

Pressed further if the U.S. cannot afford to “have a real break,” Burns said, “It’s complicated.”

“Some people are saying, ‘Well, we’re so competitive with China, we should end the economic relationship.’ Well, the consequence of that would be 750,000 American families wouldn’t be able to put dinner on the table. And so this makes for an extraordinarily difficult balancing act in my job,” Burns added.

His comments follow those he made in December, when Burns said he does not feel “optimistic,” but remains “hopeful.”

Contention between the U.S. and China has flared up in recent years with regard to multiple issues — including the U.S. government’s sanctions on Chinese citizens and officials, restricted import of Chinese semiconductors, debate over the Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok, and Taiwan.

Both sides have recently signaled an easing of some of the tension, however, and President Biden in December said his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping produced “positive steps.”

Burns told “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl the U.S. and China will inevitably need to compete, but it needs to be done “responsibly,” to “keep the peace,” between the two nations.

“One in every five people in the world is Chinese; China’s population is four times that of the U.S. and the country is vast: 3.7 million square miles. President Xi likes to say that the East is rising, the West is declining, but economically, the U.S. is thriving compared to China,” he said, later pointing to the credit rating agency Moody’s and how it switched its outlook for China to “negative.”

  • Breaking: Deep State Used U.S. Intelligence Agencies/DOJ to Illegally Terrorize Trump Supporters

Infowars founder, along with Roger Stone, Mike Flynn, and members of Trump’s family were all surveilled as part of the intelligence agencies’ Russia collusion hoax probe.

Editor’s note: Alex Jones already broke this story years ago since he experienced it firsthand, but it’s now confirmed that Barack Obama put stay-behind networks in the government before he left office in 2017, directing them to treat Trump supporters and associates as Russian assets, using the full weight of intelligence agencies to harass and intimidate them.

Alex Jones breaks it all down LIVE with Roger Stone:

Infowars founder Alex Jones was among a list of surveillance targets by the Deep State during the 2016 presidential election cycle, according to reports.

Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino received a tip from a high-placed source showing a list of high-profile individuals close to then-presidential candidate Donald Trump’s orbit were subject to illegal surveillance by the CIA and FBI under Barack Obama.

In addition to Trump’s family members like Melania, Ivanka and Donald Trump, Jr., other individuals included in the surveillance dragnet were Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, and Alex Jones.

“My list is more than 26 names. I’m obviously not going to tell you who I got this from,” Bongino said on The Dan Bongino Show earlier this month.

Bongino went on to say the list was of targets for intelligence agencies to “bump and target with Russian interaction and spying.”

“In spy-speak, ‘bumping’ is when a reason is manufactured to meet with a target of interest in order to develop a relationship that could lead to intelligence,” the New York Post reported.

The list included the following names:

    • Donald Trump
    • Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas)
    • Ben Carson
    • Donald Trump, Jr.
    • Eric Trump
    • Ivanka Trump
    • Melania Trump
    • Jared Kushner
    • Jason Miller
    • David Bossie
    • Samuel Clovis
    • Paul Manafort
    • Jason Johnson
    • Carter Page
    • George Papadopoulos
    • Alice Stewart
    • Victoria Coates
    • Christopher Bourne
    • Jason Osborne
    • Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R)
    • Donald McGahn
    • Michael Flynn
    • Alex Jones
    • Jefferson Sessions
    • Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
    • Roger Stone

Earlier this month it was revealed by journalist Michael Shellenberger that former CIA Director John Brennan identified and presented at least 26 names to foreign intelligence agencies.

But the names had not yet been released until now.

Specifically, these names were shared with the “Five Eyes” – the intelligence-gathering agencies in the U.S., United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The purpose of the surveillance dragnet was to entrap Trump associates for “Russian collusion”, a narrative the intelligence agencies were busy manufacturing using the so-called “Steele Dossier” that eventually sparked the FBI’s bogus Crossfire Hurricane investigation in the months leading up to the 2016 presidential election.

Trump had excoriated the intelligence community shortly after the FBI’s unprecedented raid on Mar-a-Lago and Trump’s subsequent charges for retaining classified documents last year, noting the same forces driving the lawfare campaigns against him had also cooked up the Russia Hoax.

“This persecution is being done by the same weaponized agencies that for 7 years have been running illegal psychological warfare campaigns against the American people,” Trump said in June at a rally in New Jersey.

Will Congress hold any of the Deep State officials like Brennan or former FBI Director James Comey accountable for weaponizing the vast powers of America’s intelligence apparatus against innocent American citizens, including a presidential candidate?

  • EXCLUSIVE: CBN To Resume $20,000 Weekly Dollar Intervention To BDCs On Monday, Abandons Willing Buyer, Willing Seller Policy

Following pressure on the naira, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will resume its weekly dollar intervention to qualified Bureau de Change Operators (BDCs). This time, the apex bank will give BDCs about $20,000 per week, THE WHISTLER can exclusively report.

THE WHISTLER learnt from a reliable document that the intervention will be done through bank accounts of qualified BDCs and they are to sell electronically to customers in need of BTA/PTA and also in cash.

A memo sent by the ABCON reads, “In furtherance to our various engagements with the Central bank, the Apex bank in conjunction with our strategic partners have agreed to our request under their supervision to inject liquidity into our sub-sector through a weekly intervention starting on Monday 26/02/2024 for funding and collection on Tuesday 27/02/2024.

“The collection will be at designated CBN branches in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Awka respectively. The details of the naira account to be credited for funding bidding will be made available on Monday.

“The CBN is also coming up with eligible BDCs on Monday unfailingly based on certain compliance criteria.”

A virtual meeting was held on Sunday by approved BDCs to deliberate on the new development. THE WHISTLER understands from a reliable source that the CBN will intervene twice a week.

A source said, “It is true that CBN is going to start intervention again from tomorrow Monday, February 26, 2024. They will start giving BDCs money. The interventions will be Wednesdays and Fridays and the amount is $10,000 for each day.”

THE WHISTLER understands that the intervention will be for BDCs that are up to date with their annual subscription and filling of monthly returns.

BDC operators that did not pay annual renewal fees and submit audited reports for 2022 will not be part of the intervention from the apex bank.

“The BDCs who are current with regulatory compliance as of 2023 will qualify for the intervention. Unlike before, the BDCs were allowed to sell to any customer, but with the new intervention, BDCs will sell only to people who are going to school, and medicals- that is BTA/PTA as the case may be. They are not allowed to sell to random customers and importers,” he said.

The CBN will now determine the rate the BDCs will sell the dollar which is contrary to the ‘willing buyer, willing seller’ model introduced by the CBN.

“The CBN will determine the rate the BDCs will sell from tomorrow and the rate of the CBN, all BDCs are not expected to sell anything above 2.5 per cent. The maximum spread to be sold on Monday from each dollar sold from Monday will be 2.5 per cent,” another source present at the meeting told THE WHISTLER.

THE WHISTLER understands that the BDCs are expected to make returns by 10 am a day after receiving the intervention from the apex bank.

  • Jokic leads Nuggets past Warriors to earn season series sweep

SAN FRANCISCO — Nikola Jokic is the most unstoppable force in the NBA, and no amount of momentum the Warriors have built up this month could change that.

Golden State had won 10 of its last 12 games before the defending champion Nuggets arrived, but Jokic put a stop to their winning run on Sunday night. In a nationally televised game, Jokic’s 32 points, 16 rebounds, 16 assists and four steals paced Denver to a 119-103 victory. Defensively, he helped goad Draymond Green into a game-high six turnovers.

“Obviously, Jokic was amazing,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said postgame. “I mean, he just completely dominated that game and put us on our heels over and over again. They’re the champs for a reason.”

Although the Warriors (29-27), led by Klay Thompson, started hot and played Denver tight, the Nuggets secured a 4-0 season series sweep in the Chase Center. When Thompson went cold, so did Golden State’s offense — by the time coach Steve Kerr pulled his starters, they’d scored just 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Thompson, who led the Warriors with 23 points, came out scorching with five 3-pointers in a blistering first half. However, he was held scoreless after halftime.

Entering Sunday, the Warriors lost each of their three matchups against Denver, with the games decided by 12 points total. The last Nuggets victory in Chase Center came off the fingertips of Jokic, whose 39-foot buzzer beater broke a 127-127 tie as time expired.

Sunday, in what Kerr tabbed as an “ultimate test,” the Warriors were locked in from the jump, with active hands in passing lanes and back-cuts generating looks at the rim on offense. Warriors jerseys blurred around the court with purpose and the ball whipped around on a string.

The big question to watch throughout was how Golden State would size up to Jokic, the two-time MVP. With Green starting at the five, center Kevon Looney’s minutes have dwindled. Looney, though, has experience guarding Jokic and is their most bruising option behind Green. He was much more involved in the smaller Warriors’ game plan against Denver.

Jokic scored in the post against Looney shortly after he checked in, but Looney got consecutive stops without double-team help right after. The key against Jokic is to keep Green and Looney out of foul trouble, and they accomplished that. No team is going to stop Jokic, arguably the best player in the world, but at least Golden State kept their best options available to slow him.

Meanwhile Thompson, the legendary shooter, was fresh, firing and flow-stating. He canned four 3s in the first quarter, including an off-balance hoist from the wing. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, a strong defender, couldn’t stick with him.

So often this season, Thompson has sat with a towel on his head, slapping his thighs on the bench in frustration. So often, he’s been a step slow, his shot an inch short. He’s been emotionally vulnerable out in the open — grappling with his own mortality, as his coach said — as he got relegated from the starting lineup for the first time since his rookie season.

But he summoned that patented swagger that seems to come whenever his shots are falling in the first half.

After his fifth triple, Thompson skipped to the baseline and screamed to a raucous Chase Center crowd. At that point, he’d dropped 21 points in nine minutes. Moments later, Thompson put it on the floor to score a driving layup past Zeke Nnaji. When he took a seat in the second quarter, the Warriors had an 11-point lead. He wouldn’t score again.

Despite Thompson’s 23-point half, Jamal Murray and Jokic sparked a 14-0 run to end the first half and prevent Golden State from pulling away.

As Jokic crossed the triple-double mark early in the third and Murray couldn’t miss, Steph Curry remained cold. He started 2-for-11 and couldn’t come up with a stopper as Denver ripped off a 12-0 run in the third.

Trailing by 10, Curry finally got going. He earned a handful of free throws and got inside for a finger roll before extending his game back out to the 3-point line on his way to 20 points. His drive-and-kick to Lester Quinones for a corner 3 tied back-and-forth game at 82.

Yet as soon as Curry got rolling, his splash brother went dry. Thompson, who started 7-for-10, missed five straight shots. Curry ended up with 20 points on 19 shots and has looked fatigued in the past couple games.

With 1:45 left and the Warriors trying to cut into Denver’s eight-point lead, Jokic caught a bounce pass on the short roll and in one motion turned and lobbed an alley-oop to Aaron Gordon. It was the type of majestic play Jokic makes look routine, and he made far too many for Golden State to keep up.

  • Watch: NATO Chief Declares ‘Ukraine Will Join NATO’

NATO statement essentially a declaration of war since Russia has repeatedly warned that Ukraine becoming NATO member would be an unacceptable “red line.”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reaffirmed that Ukraine will be eventually brought into the Western alliance, in defiance of Russia’s red line.

Stoltenberg on Saturday reiterated NATO’s commitment to introduce Ukraine into the alliance to commemorate the two year anniversary of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine.

“Ukraine will join NATO. It is not a question of if, but of when,” he said in a video message.

“As we prepare you for that day, NATO will continue to stand with Ukraine. For your security, and for ours,” Stoltenberg said.

    • Introducing Next Level Foundational Energy from Dr. Jones Naturals starting at 30% off! This cutting-edge dietary supplement is designed to elevate your energy levels and support your overall well-being.

Stoltenberg went on to detail how NATO has already provided Ukraine with billions of dollars of “artillery ammunition, air defence, and combat boats… F-16 equipment and spare parts, drones, and demining equipment” for Ukraine.

“More support is on the way,” he promised.

Stoltenberg also praised Ukraine’s dwindling forces: “You have recaptured half of the territory seized by Russia. Pushed Russia back from large parts of the Black Sea. And inflicted heavy losses on the Russian forces.”

Of course, the bulk of Ukraine’s financial and military support has come from the United States, but Republicans are resisting Joe Biden’s demands for Congress to pass another $60 billion to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Saturday that “millions will be killed” in Ukraine and risk losing its conflict with Russia if the U.S. does not provide the new assistance package.

But Stoltenberg’s renewed pledge is essentially a declaration of a wider-scale war given Russia has repeatedly warned that NATO membership of Ukraine is an unacceptable “red line.”

  • After Backlash, Qatar Says Its Honoured To Host Tinubu To Business Parley

The Government of Qatar has said the planned Business And Investment Forum between the Qatari and Nigerian governments would go on as scheduled.

The Embassy of Qatar in Abuja disclosed this about 24 hours after a news outlet reported that the investment meeting was declined due to several bilateral reasons.

Widespread reactions on social media trailed the report with many claiming the Nigerian government was snubbed by the Arab country.

But the embassy, in a statement, maintained that the parley as requested by President Bola Tinubu would take place.

Qatar further said it will host Tinubu as scheduled by both countries.

“Regarding the upcoming State visit of H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Qatar from 2nd-3rd March 2024 and with reference to our Note: Ref: QEA\FA\057\24 dated 22/02/2024 regarding holding of a Business and Investment Forum (BIF) on the margins of Mr. President’s visit to Qatar on 2nd March 2024, the Embassy has the honour to convey that the Qatar Chamber of Commerce will host the above mentioned event on 3rd March 2024, as proposed by the Nigerian side.

“The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja presents its compliments to the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the embassy said in a statement.

Recall that the presidency had dismissed reports that claimed the government of Qatar snubbed Tinubu’s planned visit to the country for a business parley.

Responding to the news report that cited a letter from the Qatari government rejecting Tinubu’s proposed visit from March 2-3, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the state visit itself was never rejected by the host country.

Onanuga stated on Saturday, “President Tinubu is expected to proceed to Qatar on the State Visit as scheduled and during the visit, the Nigerian leader will engage in high-level bilateral discussions with Qatari leader on many important matters, covering the full range of diplomatic and economic issues.

“It is not correct for anyone to insinuate that the Qatari authorities have snubbed the Nigerian leader over a business and investment forum which is tangential to the all-important State Visit and which President Tinubu is slated to attend as a guest.

“President Tinubu and His Highness Al-Thani are both committed to maintaining and building on the existing cordial and special relationship between Nigeria and the State of Qatar “
