  • “All Weapons Safe”: Wildfire Temporarily Suspends Operations At Texas Nuclear Bomb Plant

A wildfire in the Texas Panhandle exploded in size on Tuesday, forcing the temporary shutdown of a nuclear weapons plant

A wildfire in the Texas Panhandle exploded in size on Tuesday, forcing the temporary shutdown of a nuclear weapons plant.

The Smokehouse Creek Fire, burning between Canadian and Stinnett, exploded in size from 40,000 to 200,000 acres in a matter of hours on Tuesday. This prompted Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to issue a disaster declaration for 60 counties.

“Hot and dry conditions caused by high temperatures and windy conditions are expected to continue in the region in the coming days,” Abbott said in a statement. “These conditions could increase the potential for these wildfires to grow larger and more dangerous.”

According to a post on X, Pantex Plant, the nation’s top nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly plant, about 17 miles northeast of Amarillo, canceled plant operations “until further notice” on Tuesday evening, adding, “All weapons and special materials are safe and unaffected.”

“The fire near Pantex is not contained. Response efforts have shifted to evacuations. There is a small number of non-essential personnel sheltered on-site,” Pantex said late Tuesday night.

By Wednesday morning, the plant said: “The Pantex Plant is open for normal day shift operations for Wednesday, February 28; all personnel are to report for duty according to their assigned schedule.”

Pantex has been the US’s main assembly and disassembly site for nukes since the mid-1970s. It assembled the last new bomb in 1991 while dismantling thousands.

  • Reps Move To Investigate Power Outage, Recurrent Collapse of National Grid

    TCN-says-power-restored-on-National

The House of Representatives has committed to investigating power outages and recurrent failure of the national grid in order to find a lasting solution to the embarrassing development.

This followed a motion by Billy Osawaru (APC, Edo) who stated that sustainable energy is essential to any modern economy, saying that Nigeria is no exception.

    He stressed that a stable electricity supply ensures that industries remain viable, power homes, and facilitates significant economic growth and industrial progress;

While commending the plan of the federal government to increase power capacity to 20,000 megawatts (MW) from 12,522 MW projected within the next three years, he said the Electricity Act, 2023, is aimed at addressing the persistent challenges in the power sector, harnessing new opportunities, as well as propel Nigeria toward a future of reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply.

Quoting the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in August 2023, he said the Nigerian power grid recorded an unparalleled period of stability in the history of the power sector by operating without major disruptions or systems collapse for over 400 consecutive days.

He expressed concern that in a space of one week in August 2023, Nigeria recorded three national grid collapses, with the national grid collapsing twice within 6hrs and on 19 August 2023, another system collapse was recorded.

He said frequent grid collapses this year have negatively impacted the economy, reducing industrial output and raising manufacturing expenses.

He noted that firms are forced to invest in alternate power sources, thus, raising operational costs and leaving end users with exorbitant prices, which citizens cannot afford, especially with subsidy removal effects.

He said all police command control rooms can be compromised during the dark hours, and tracking devices that need the power to reach telephone lines can be hampered.

He said if the frequent national grid collapses are thoroughly investigated and solutions proffered, it will end the continuous system collapse, boost the economy, and reduce the suffering of the citizens.

“Aware that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in August 2023 stated that the Nigerian power
grid recorded an unparallel period of stability in the history of the power sector by operating without
major disruptions or systems collapse for over 400 consecutive days, a milestone that indicates an
advancement in the nation’s efforts at strengthening its power infrastructure, ensuring a reliable and
dependable electricity supply to distribution load centres for onward distribution to electricity customers
    nationwide.

“Worried that in a space of one week in the month of August 2023, Nigeria recorded three national grid
collapses, the national grid collapsed twice within 6hrs and on the 19 August 2023, another system
    collapse was recorded.

“Also worried that frequent grid collapses this year have negatively impacted the economy, reducing
industrial output and raising manufacturing expenses, Firms are forced to invest in alternate power
sources, thus, raising operational costs and leaving end users with exorbitant prices, which citizens cannot afford, especially with subsidy removal effects.

“Recalls that the nation is currently facing its worst form of insecurity, including insurgency, banditry,
kidnapping and other violent crimes, the collapse of the National grid will embolden criminal activities
and security facilities such as the Vigiscope App, Police Situation room App, all Police Commands control
rooms can be compromised during the dark hours, tracking devices that need power to reach telephone
    lines can be hampered;l.

“Cognizant that if the frequent national grid collapses are thoroughly investigated and solutions proffered,
it will end the continuous system collapse, boost the economy and reduce the suffering of the citizens.”

  • John Fisher takes heat from Trevor May

OAKLAND — Trevor May is finally free from the Oakland A’s and owner John Fisher.

“Like a bird, finally let loose to fly,” May said Saturday at Fans Fest, a celebration of Oakland sports fans at Jack London Square. “Last year was very hard. I just had a lot of stuff I was worrying about.”

Last season, May was the highest-paid player on the A’s and one of the team’s veteran leaders who was trying to keep things positive in a difficult year for him personally, having stepped away for about a month to deal with mental health issues, and for the franchise, which announced its plans to leave for Las Vegas.

It felt impossible for May to speak honestly about playing for a team that ended up with the 10th-most losses in MLB history while using an MLB-low payroll.

There was plenty he wanted to say, but couldn’t.

Like on that Tuesday night in June, when more than 27,000 A’s fans showed up for a reverse boycott to protest Fisher’s decision to move the team to Vegas.

Fans chanted “sell the team.” They were vocal and angry towards Fisher, but were incredibly supportive any time the A’s did something well on the field.

“That’s a connection with the fans that only exists here,” May said. “If you’re an underdog, these fans are there for you. It’s why I’ve always gravitated to it.”

The A’s won a spectacular game over the Tampa Bay Rays, 2-1, and May recorded the final out while pumping his fist and screaming as he walked off the mound.

Earlier that day, the only negative thing May could say about Fisher was this: “It is about money for John. It is. There’s no dancing around it.”

What did he really want to say?

He said it at the end of the season, when he announced his retirement on his YouTube show and slammed Fisher on the way out, calling him a “greedy (expletive).”

Saturday, he again sounded off on Fisher and the A’s, who have yet to publicly release any renderings of their new ballpark, announce a financing plan or determine where they’ll play until their Vegas ballpark is ready in 2028. There are also several legal proceedings in Nevada that could stop some or all of the $380 million in public funding that’s supposed to help pay for it.

“It’s predictable,” May said. “I just don’t think they’re very good at this. I try to search track records for John’s business record and he really hasn’t done anything successfully. Not truly. He hasn’t really hit anything well. Most of it is because of his status. He gets a return to a level because of who he is but there’s nothing being added.”

In Oakland, Mayor Sheng Thao has been just as frustrated with Fisher, who she predicted will do “John Fisher things” when he gets to Las Vegas. Thao thought the city was close to a deal with the A’s for a new ballpark at Howard Terminal, but she never heard from Fisher until he called to say the team was focused on moving to Vegas.

Said May: “Everyone is realizing he’s not bringing anything to us. We’re not going to get anything. We’re only going to give. He’s not going to give us anything. So what’s the point of being in business with this person?”

May’s problem is that the other 29 MLB owners, commissioner Rob Manfred and lawmakers in Las Vegas are going along with it. The owners voted 30-0 to approve Fisher’s planned relocation to Las Vegas, despite several owners who voiced their concerns privately, as reported in The Athletic last November.

May said he wanted to speak out while he was still a player, but it was difficult. So when he announced his retirement, he found himself no longer holding back.

“It’s important that the fans know that we (the players) know,” May said. “We know. Everyone knows. I don’t know why we can’t acknowledge things.”

May said the Vegas deal is obviously flawed, “but this is easy, to shrug and let someone else deal with it. There’s a lot of people who could shut it down in Vegas who won’t because they don’t want to put the wrench in the machine.

“I have no idea how this got green-lit when there was no plan. I think we’d know about the plan because they’d put it out immediately if they had one. It’s kind of predictable.”

The players on the A’s “just want an answer,” May said. They don’t know where they’ll be playing after the team’s lease at the Coliseum expires following the 2024 season. The team is negotiating with the city on an extension, but those talks don’t seem promising.

“The Coliseum has been old since it was been built,” May said.

  • Salvadoran Illegal Ordered Deported In 2022 Arrested for Murder of 2-Year-Old in Maryland ‘Sanctuary’ County

Toddler, mother struck by gunfire during shootout between rival groups in D.C. metro area

An illegal alien who was ordered deported in 2022 was the fifth suspect arrested in the shooting death of a toddler in a Maryland ‘sanctuary’ county for illegal aliens.

The horrifying incident unfolded on February 8 in Langley Park, located in Prince George’s County in the Washington D.C. metro area.

Rival groups opened fire upon one another, and stray rounds struck a woman and her 2-year-old son, who were walking nearby.

A detective on patrol heard the gun battle and arrived quickly on the scene, where he found young Jeremy Poou-Caceres and his mother both suffering from gunshot wounds.

The child was later pronounced deceased but his mother survived.

“Since the murder, the PGPD has identified and arrested four other suspects – to include a 15-year-old male from Takoma Park and a 16-year-old male from Hyattsville. They are both charged as adults,” the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) explained in a press release.

“The Homicide Unit has also arrested 33-year-old Israel Fuentes, Jr., of Lewisdale and 28-year-old Johnny Alejandro Turcios of Lewisdale.”

On Monday, PGPD announced the arrest of Nilson Trejo-Granados, 25, of “no fixed address.”

However, on Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) revealed Trejo-Granados is an illegal alien from El Salvador who was ordered deported in 2022 and has been arrested multiple times.

“On Nov. 7, 2022, a Department of Justice immigration judge in Newark, New Jersey ordered Trejo-Granados’ removal from the United States,” explained ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Baltimore spokesman James Covington in a statement to Fox 5.

Trejo-Granados was arrested for theft on two separate occasions last year in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Both times, ICE lodged immigration detainers against him that were ignored by county officials who released him back onto the street.

Granados-Trejo has now been charged with first degree murder, second degree murder, attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, and multiple assaults in the first and second degree.

He is being held at the Prince George’s County Detention Center, and ICE has filed yet another immigration detainer against him.

    An investigation is ongoing.

Prince George’s County formally established itself as a ‘sanctuary’ for illegal aliens with the passage of the “Community Inclusiveness Act” in 2019, which bars county agencies from cooperating with federal immigration authorities, but the county has operated as a de facto sanctuary for much longer.

  • ‘Suspended’ Cross River APC Chairman Eba Fights Back, Warns Ganduje Against Recognising New State Party Leadership

L-R: National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje; ‘Suspended’ chairman of the party in Cross Rivers State, Alphonsus Eba

    …He Stands Suspended – Stakeholders

In a windy letter warning the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje against recognising the new state leadership of the party in Cross River State, ‘suspended’ chairman of the party in the state, Alphonsus Ogar Eba has denied any wrongdoing and reasserted his position as the APC state chairman in the state

Eba, in a letter dated 26th of February and received on the 27th by the office of the National Chairman, and addressed to Ganduje, copying a host of others warned against what he called lack of “fair hearing” and a descent to anarchy if Ganduje recognises the new leadership.

The letter which was written from the chambers of Okoi Obono Obla, who was suspended by ex-President Muhammadu Buhari as the chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel (SPIP) for the Recovery of Public Property, declared his removal as a “coup d’etat”, and if any, his removal “must be in line with Article 21 (ii) & (iv) of the APC Constitution.”

The group led by Chief Mark Nomba Ayo, Chairman, and Mathias Ake, Secretary, both of Cross River State APC Stakeholders Forum, had passed a vote of no confidence on Eba on the resolution dated 21 February and subsequently despatched a letter to the APC National Chairman on the same day identifying Mr James Alichie Okpamu as the acting National Chairman “pending rectification.”

The stakeholders resolved that “After due consultation with the stakeholders of our great party the APC Cross River State Chapter, being bonafide members and on behalf of Cross River State APC Stakeholders and acting for the overall interest, success and wellbeing of our great party and majority of our membership across the state have decided, agreed and undertaken to bring this petition for the immediate resignation from office of the State Party Chairman Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba.”

The group said, “Consequent on the imminent ripe agitations and the possible likely breakdown of law and order thereafter, and in line with the provisions of Article 21 (i) (ii) and 21.3 (i) of the APC’s constitution 2022 (as amended), Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, State Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) Cross River State is hereby suspended from office with immediate effect.”

The group said the “suspension and the clarion call for his immediate resignation is premised on the violation” of the party constitution 2022.

The group emphasised that “It is on a good record that, since Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, State Chairman of APC Cross River State assumed office, has refused, omitted, failed and neglected to constitute” the “organs of the party in clear breach and violation of our party constitution.

“He has conducted himself in a high-handed manner, and seen other party members as his employees. He takes decisions without minding the feelings of the people and has carried on the affairs of the party as a ‘Man Alone’.”

The group said, “Following the unproductive activities of the chairman, which have put our great party in a bad light and abysmal outing both in the general elections and in the most recent bye-elections, particularly in the State Chairman’s Senatorial District and Local Government, it has become imperative to place him on immediate suspension and call for the resignation of Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba if our party must achieve the desired goals, aims, vision and objective of its founding fathers.”

The stakeholders stressed that “Eba has operated more like a sole administrator and arbitrarily acted solely on his whims and caprices without subjecting his plans and programmes to informed advice. He exhibits dictatorial tendencies and talks down on senior and notable party members, who hold contrary but veritable opinions on issues.”

Consequently, “the chairman lacks the required temperament and disposition and therefore is incapable of providing the quality of leadership that our party deserves.

“Eba is by this notice directed to stay off the secretariat of the party henceforth,” the group warned.

But in a desperate letter to Ganduje, Eba through his lawyer said his tenure “will expire in 2026.”

He said he had “been discharging the functions… diligently, professionally and faithfully,” to his best abilities.”

He expressed surprise that he “stumbled” on the letter suspending him on the APC Whatsapp platform, purporting that he had been suspended by the ‘stakeholders’” in the state.

He urged Ganduje “to disregard, discount and discountenance the said letter” as the leaders of the group “are ordinary members of the Cross River State (APC), who do not have the locus standi to suspend the State Chairman of the APC Cross River State.”

He declared that “They are nothing but meddlesome interlopers, agent provocateurs and confusionists who have been paid by hostile forces to destabilise and factionalise the APC Cross River State.”

He argued that “There is no organ of the APC Cross River State known as Stakeholders’ in Cross River State” stressing that “the purported Stakeholders are a non-existent body. Stakeholders of Cross River State have no scintilla of power to discipline the State Chairman or any member of the State.”

He condemned “unreservedly the attempt to use undemocratic and inferior methods to remove the elected Cross River Exco of APC.”

He also said, he “strongly condemn a situation when meddlesome interlopers would wake up suddenly in utter disregard to the Constitution of the Party, and capriciously and whimsically declared, that they have removed the State Chairman of the APC in Cross River State, and unilaterally proceed to appoint an Acting Chairman.

“Such acts of indiscipline, insubordination, impunity, illegality and audacity are capable of destroying the party, if not checked and nipped in the bud,” he warned.

He lamented that “What the purported Stakeholders have done amounts to self-help and anarchy,” declaring that “The Cross River APC is not a Mafia outfit, where some Chieftains would just gather and resolve to fire down everyone.”

He emphasised that he was not given “the rights to fair hearing” arguing that “By Article 13.7 (vi) of the APC Constitution, only the State Executive Committee can exercise control and take disciplinary actions on all organs, officers and members of the party and determine appeals brought before it by any member or organ of the party within the State.”

Consequently, he warned Ganduje that he “is entitled to be heard or afforded the opportunity to hear his own side of the allegation(s) against him.”

Unfortunately, he said his “right to fair hearing has flagrantly been violated by the so-called Stakeholders with ignominy.”

He added, “It goes without saying that the purported removal without affording” him “the opportunity to be heard is wrongful, illegal, null, void, and unconstitutional.

“Nigeria is not a banana republic, where someone accused of wrongdoing can be punished without hearing his own side of the story as blatantly done.

“Even God gave Adam a Fair Hearing even though he was caught red-handed eating the fruit from the forbidden tree.”

He urged Ganduje “to promptly restrain” the stakeholders “from infringing or trampling or imperilling” him “from carrying out the functions of his Office as State Chairman of APC Cross River State as enshrined in the Constitution of APC.”

When contacted, Ayo confirmed the authenticity of the resolutions and letter suspending Eba, reaffirming their stance that he’s no longer the chairman of the party.

The spokesman of the APC, Felix Morka told THE WHISTLER upon inquiry that, “I don’t have the brief yet, but when the details are in, you will be informed.”

APC is the ruling party in Cross River State.

  • Biden’s Walk Can Beat Trump’s Talk With The Working Class, But He Needs To Speak Up

    By Ben Jealous

(Trice Edney Wire) – Spoiler alert! Donald Trump will be allowed to remain on the ballot this fall.

One way or another, the Supreme Court is going to decide that a state cannot remove Trump from based on the 14th amendment’s ban on insurrectionists holding elected office. Trump is an insurrectionist. But that is not the question currently before the Court. The decision will likely be joined by some of the Court’s moderates. It could even be unanimous.

Regardless of the reasoning behind or the narrowness of the ultimate decision, another barrier will be removed for Trump. His base will be further energized.

Increasingly, the question on many people’s minds is this: with the Trump train picking up speed again, what can President Biden really do to stop it?

The first step is to recognize what we’re dealing with. Yes, many Americans are depressed about this election, and depressed about it being a rematch between the same people who were on the ballot last time. However, turnout will still be high.

It is still a presidential year. The media coverage will not let any of us escape constantly hearing about the election. And people know there is a ton at stake.

Each side sees a lot to fight against. Each side sees a lot to fight for. This election is likely to go to the side that working class America believes is fighting for them.

In order to understand working class America today, we have to understand a huge swath of working-class America generally has the same address. It is the place where the factory shut down and opiate addiction, meth addiction, and suicide shot up.

The economic and social struggles of this broad base of American society define the political moment that we are in. It is a populist one. This has allowed Donald Trump to speak to Americans’ anxieties with no intention of following through, and in completely dishonest ways.

Trump has been stealing Bernie Sanders’ talking points since back in 2016. Remember before the all the “rigged election” rhetoric, Trump spoke of the “rigged economy.” He truthfully told voters our healthcare system is broken but dishonestly said he would give us a better one. And, of course he lambasted NAFTA as the disaster it was. It was all empty rhetoric. Trump lacked the conviction, knowledge, and genuine desire to do anything about these issues.

Take the issue of trade. All of Trump’s tough “America first” talk about trade belies the fact that his policies would do nothing to ensure American competitiveness. Despite China being a favorite target from the stump, Trump would allow China to dominate the emerging global economy by preventing the domestic growth of the industries at its center.

The irony is that what working class America is demanding, Joe Biden is delivering. He is just not talking about it.

Biden’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is reopening American factories, rebuilding American manufacturing, and creating jobs. Our current president is backing up industrial unions like the United Auto Workers when they find themselves in a real fight. And he is ensuring that America seizes the moment to lead the world economy in this century like we did the last one.

In a world where Donal Trump talks the talk and Joe Biden walks the walk, we should assume that the talker has the advantage. The only way to bridge that gap is for President Biden to start talking the talk too. As a guy from Scranton, he knows how to do it and it is authentically in his heart.

President Biden does not need to sound more like Trump. Trump is all bluster and aims only to foment anger. What President Biden needs to do is make it clear that when it comes to cars and energy, there is only one future: electric vehicles and renewable sources like solar and wind.

He needs to speak plainly about how if America does not seize these markets and support the manufacturing sectors behind these industries, China will. China already controls more than 80 percent of the world’s solar manufacturing capacity and the Chinese electric car industry is growing rapidly.

To be sure, there are many, many factors at play in this year’s election. But many of the big ones tie back to the working class. For instance, the gender gap has grown – but not necessarily in Biden’s favor. Women skew more heavily towards Biden in polls that follow public displays of Trump’s misogyny or news of his sexual assaults. But in general, recent polls are showing Biden’s base advantage with women has shrunk. Meanwhile, the gender gap for men skews more and more heavily towards Trump. That is driven by the trend among working-class men. And it is working-class men of all races – including growing numbers of Black men.

Democratic politicians need to get over their default inclination to disregard working-class white men in their messaging. It ultimately leads to disregarding working-class people across the board.

We all grew up hearing that actions speak louder words. But talking the talk is becoming more and more important in our politics. This is not a case against action. Rather, where President Biden is already showing great leadership with his actions, he needs to also make sure the American people hear about it.

  • Biden to issue executive order safeguarding American personal data from US adversaries

President Biden will issue an executive order Wednesday preventing large-scale transfers of Americans’ personal data to U.S. adversaries, such as Russia, China and Iran.

The executive order directs the Department of Justice (DOJ) to establish protections for genomic data, biometric data, personal health data, geolocation data, financial data and sensitive government-related data.

“Our intelligence community has made clear that ‘our adversaries increasingly view data as a strategic resource,’” a senior Biden administration official said on a call with reporters Tuesday evening.

“These countries are leveraging their access to Americans’ bulk sensitive personal data and government-related data to engage in a variety of nefarious activities, including malicious cyber-enabled activities, espionage and blackmail,” the official added.

The protections will block large-scale transfers of sensitive U.S. data to six countries of concern — China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Cuba and Venezuela.

The senior administration official accused these countries of using U.S. data to collect information on activists, academics, journalists, dissidents, political figures and marginalized communities to intimidate opponents, curb dissent and limit Americans’ freedom of expression.

As companies increasingly collect vast amounts of data on Americans, they often sell and resell that data, which can sometimes “land in the hands of foreign intelligence services, militaries, or companies controlled by foreign governments,” according to a White House press release.

To prevent this, the Justice Department is considering prohibiting data brokerage and genomic data transactions with countries of concern, while placing some restrictions on vendor, employment and investment agreements, a senior DOJ official told reporters.

“I think we will make it significantly more challenging for our adversaries to obtain this data in the big scale and in the degree of comprehensiveness that is most acute for the risks we’re trying to address,” the DOJ official said.
