  • Media Blackout As Thousands Gather To Mourn Laken Riley At Vigil

Young woman murdered by illegal immigrant on college campus bringing more attention to open border madness

Thousands of people gathered for a vigil at the University of Georgia on Monday to remember the life of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley, who was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant while she went out for a morning jog on her college campus.

The murder suspect, 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra, illegally crossed into El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was released from U.S. Customs and Border Protection custody, according to several ICE and DHS sources.

Riley’s sorority sisters at Alpha Chi Omega set up the vigil to honor their friend alongside thousands of fellow students and school faculty.

The vast majority of mainstream media outlets totally ignored the large gathering because it clearly contradicts the narratives they’re being told to push, which is that there is no border crisis and millions of unknown illegals entering the country is a GOOD thing!

Several local media outlets covered the vigil, but it appears as if the only national news coverage came from an AP News YouTube video and a Yahoo News repost article from Fox 5 Atlanta.

The Fox 5 Atlanta article doesn’t even mention the fact that Riley was viciously assaulted and murdered, let alone tell readers the act was allegedly committed by an illegal alien.

“Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley went out for a run near the Intramural Fields on UGA’s campus Thursday morning, but never made it back home. The coroner’s office said she died of blunt force trauma to the head,” the article states.

With that explanation, she could have fell and hit her head on a rock.

Searches on both YouTube and Google for “University of Georgia vigil” or “Laken Riley vigil” only result in coverage from news outlets Axios, Yahoo, and the Independent, in addition to the sole AP video.

Network news talking heads didn’t cover the massive vigil, and outlets like CNN even told readers that conservatives upset about the murder are exploiting her death as “a symbol of xenophobia or hate.”

“Riley’s alleged killer is not representative of immigrants, nor do we even know yet if he is guilty. Any narrative that portrays undocumented immigrants generally as violent criminals is harmful and inaccurate,” a CNN article stated.

X users slammed the media for its blatant hypocrisy in failing to provide more coverage of both the murder itself and the vigil:

  • Why President Biden should be reelected

As a member of the Biden-Harris 2024 national advisory board, I have spent the past year traveling the country talking with voters and hearing their concerns about the 2024 election. Americans are deeply worried about the cost of groceries and rent, the burden of student loan debt and the skyrocketing cost of health care and prescription drugs.

As a progressive, I disagree with President Biden in several areas, including the urgent need for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza and the release of all hostages. I was in Michigan last week where I spoke with voters about the dire situation. I understand the heartbreak and frustration people are experiencing.

President Biden has signaled that he is working on a cease-fire deal. I hope that he will heed our calls to protect civilian life in Gaza, end the war and ensure the release of hostages.

But there is a clear choice in this election. A Trump presidency will mean less diplomacy and more violence in the Middle East. It will only prolong the suffering of millions of people. It will also mean a continuation of economic policies that benefit the wealthy and hurt the middle class, including tax cuts for corporations and an unstrategic trade war that already cost 300,000 American jobs.

A Trump presidency will jeopardize abortion rights, the rights of LGBTQ+ people, and basic freedoms for millions of Americans. And, as we saw on Jan. 6, 2021, Trump is a major threat to our institutions of democracy.

Aside from the threat of what a Trump presidency would mean for our country, here is what President Biden has accomplished in this first term that makes me confident that he should be reelected.

After extreme conservatives on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, President Biden stood firmly in support of reproductive health care. The president signed executive orders to protect reproductive rights, including abortion, contraception and patient privacy. He has said that if a national abortion ban was passed by Congress, he would veto it.

For decades, pharmaceutical companies have made huge profits at the expense of ordinary Americans. By signing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), President Biden took historic action to lower the cost of prescription drugs and invest in tackling climate change.

The IRA allows Medicare to negotiate the price of high-cost drugs for the first time ever. The law also caps a month’s supply of insulin at $35 per month and includes the largest climate investment in U.S. history.

The president has taken steps to reverse the disastrous neoliberal policies of the past three decades that have cost the country 5 million manufacturing jobs and 70,000 factories. He signed the CHIPS and Science Act, which I co-authored, that led to companies announcing nearly $300 billion in manufacturing investments in the United States and creation of good-paying jobs in communities that have been left behind.

Thanks to funding from this law, Micron is constructing a semiconductor plant in Clay, N.Y., that is expected to create 50,000 good paying jobs. Intel and Applied Materials, which are both headquartered in my Silicon Valley district, are building semiconductor facilities to ensure technologies are made in America.

The law also includes the largest investment in science since the Kennedy administration that will establish tech hubs across the country and expand investments in the National Science Foundation to advance research.

The president has also delivered on his promises to help the millions of people who lack clean drinking water and to repair thousands of miles of roads, bridges and highways. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has already provided 21 million low-income households with free or discounted high-speed internet service.

The president’s record may speak for itself, but his allies need to make the case this campaign. President Biden has stood firmly for reproductive freedom, for economic opportunity for the middle class, and for policies that create jobs and bring down costs. He will continue to build on the success of his first term and veto extreme proposals from Republicans in Congress, including a national abortion ban that Trump has privately supported.

For the sake of our economy, fundamental rights and our health care system, it is critical that President Biden is reelected.

Editor’s note: Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., has served in Congress since 2017. This opinion column was published on Friday, March 1, along with a column written by Republican primary candidate Nikki Haley. Former President Donald Trump’s campaign did not submit a column by the deadline to have something published before the March 5 election.

  • Why Gunshot Injuries Disrupt Manhood For Black Men

Black men disabled by gun violence expressed frustration with no longer being able to provide for their families and move around on their own. (Credit: Kampus Production/Pexels)

    by Alexa Spencer

It used to be that Tariq prided himself on providing for his family, earning enough money to pay for food, the rent, and more. “I used to tell my wife, ‘Hey babe, you don’t like your job? You don’t have to work. You can go back to school, stay at home, and do whatever you want. I’ll take care of everything, and I was in a position to do that,” he says. But that was before he was shot.

Now, as he told researchers from Rutgers University School of Public Health, who authored a new study on Black men who survive gun violence, he has gone from being a provider to being dependent — and that’s taken a huge toll on the 38-year-old.

“I just stay at one spot, don’t move around too much this way. I don’t work up an appetite,” he said. “I feel like a burden. You know now I can’t be burden lifter so my phone don’t ring and it f- sucks.”

The study was published this month in the American Journal of Men’s Health. Among their findings, the researchers discovered that, much like Tariq, survivors struggle with a loss of independence. Participants described how that can balloon into other issues, too, causing them to feel like a burden on their caretakers and to struggle with how the circumstances of their injuries undermined their sense of manhood.

“In describing some optimal characteristics of what it means to be a man, disabled violently injured Black men discussed the importance of being a protector, provider, responsible, independent and having self-awareness,” Nazsa Baker, lead author of the study and a postdoctoral fellow at Rutgers New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center, said in a statement.  “Most of the men described hegemonic ideals of manhood and how their definitions of manhood would impact others.”

Gun violence is a leading cause of death among Black males. In 2021, Black boys and men ages 15 to 24 died from more gun homicides than unintentional injuries, suicide, heart disease, and COVID-19 put together, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But not all shooting injuries result in death.

More than 110 Black Americans are injured daily. And about half of young Black men who survive shootings are hospitalized for similar injuries within five years, making gunshot wounds the leading cause of disability among this population.

How Firearm Injuries Impact Black Men

Survivors of firearm-related assaults face unique challenges.

Physically, it can be difficult to complete daily activities, such as bathing, getting dressed, and working. Mentally, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and substance use disorder may develop in the wake of a shooting injury. Victims may avoid mental health services due to stigma, fear, and a lack of trusted resources.

The Rutgers researchers interviewed 10 Black men about their psychological and physical experiences as they recovered from gunshot wounds.

“I have to get out my chair and get into something else, then roll to the bathroom. There are areas that I can’t fit in the house.”

Racial stereotypes have defined Black men as hyper-aggressive, hypersexual, and muscular. “However, in this study, participants consistently defined manhood as being able to take care of one’s responsibilities—especially their financial responsibilities,” the authors wrote.

The participants define a man as a “protector, provider, nurturer,” and someone who is supposed to “build a foundation, an empire, and a business,” and “takes care of responsibility by any means necessary.” All of which becomes more difficult to do after being shot, especially for those who lose mobility as a result of their injuries.

The researchers found that expressing manhood is an essential aspect of Black men’s lives and identities.

“I was shot 16 times. I get upset about little things. I’ll be mad my foot will go out on me, and my back getting stiff,” Reginald, 34, said. “My body is just mad different now, it’s not the same.”.

Barry, 22, said he hasn’t adjusted to his wheelchair.

“It affects me because right now, the chair is too big to go into the bathroom, so I gotta do other things to get to the bathroom,” he said. “I have to get out my chair and get into something else, then roll to the bathroom. There are areas that I can’t fit in the house.”

Ultimately, the researchers found that expressing manhood is an essential aspect of Black men’s lives and identities.

“Because their injuries had impacted their bodies, they felt hampered in their ability to be men. This appeared to create mental and emotional distress for the men in this study, suggesting that in a sense, manhood serves as a social determinant of health of Black men.”

  • Lokpobiri Tasks New NCDMB Council Members To Raise Bar Of Local Content Development

Gbenga Komolafe; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri; Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe; Representative of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Bekearedebo Augusta Warrens; Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olorundare Sunday Thomas and representative of the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum (NCCF), Dr. Raphael Samuel.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator, Heineken Lokpobiri, has tasked the new governing council of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) on the need to raise the bar of local content development.

Lokpobiri said this during the inauguration of the 4th NCDMB Governing Council set up under the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act.

President Bola Tinubu on December 7, 2023, announced the committee members chaired by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Lokpobiri, while the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, was named the Secretary of the Council.

Other members include the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power, and New Energy, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, Mrs. Oritsemyiwa Eyesan, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Engr. Gbenga Komolafe.

It also has the representative of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Bekearedebo Augusta Warrens and the Chairman of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Mr. Nicholas Odinuwe.

Others include the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olorundare Sunday Thomas, Chairman of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering (COREN), Prof. Sadiq Abubakar and the representative of the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum (NCCF), Dr. Raphael Samuel.

The minister said the NCDMB has recorded tremendous achievements in the oil and gas industry in the last 13 years of its existence and has achieved many of the set objectives.

But he said there was room for improvement, according to a statement by the NCDMB.

Lokpobiri solicited the “cooperation of the new Council members to raise the bar of Nigerian Content development. Many African countries are coming to understudy Nigeria’s Local Content model and it was incumbent on Nigeria to deepen the level of implementation and stay ahead of other nations.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr Olorundare Sunday Thomas speaking at the event appreciated the minister for his nomination and promised to uphold the confidence reposed in them.

He affirmed that NCDMB has performed creditably, and Nigerian Content implementation had become the envy of many countries.

He said, “A lot of value has been added to the oil and gas industry and the Nigerian economy, and I thank those who originated the NOGICD Act. We will do our best, and we will continue the good work started by the NCDMB.”

In his reaction, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, promised to work closely with all the members of the governing council to make a difference.

  • MLK’s International Influence: A Hidden Legacy

The impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s message and mission extended — and continues to extend — far beyond American shores. (Credit: David Erickson/Wikimedia Commons)

    By Aswad Walker

Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) is mostly known for his role in the U.S. Civil Rights Movement; a movement for which he lived, fought, and died. However, the impact of MLK’s message and mission extended – and continues to extend – far beyond these American shores.

“[Dr. King] applied an ethical framework of compassion and nonviolence to his theories and action in the international community,” said Marcus King, director of George Washington University’s Elliott School’s international affairs master’s program.

    Exposure to Global Issues

King was the moderator of a 2019 forum on MLK where Dr. Robert M. Franklin, a former president of Morehouse, former head of Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, and professor of theology and social justice at both institutions, spoke.

Franklin shared that MLK was exposed to international happenings in part by “an extensive roster of speakers who visited Morehouse’s chapel, including Eleanor Roosevelt and Howard University’s first African American president Mordecai Wyatt Johnson,” wrote Tatyana Hopkins for GW Today

Moreover, the mentorship of Dr. Benjamin Mays and Dr. Howard Thurman, influenced a young MLK to see himself as a citizen of the world.

Decades before MLK encountered Mahatma Gandhi, Thurman experienced his own life-changing meeting with the international figure, further strengthening his words to MLK about the importance of seeing issues from a global perspective.

    International Travel

MLK’s first taste of international travel took place in 1957, just months after the Dec. 1956 end of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

According to Franklin, MLK’s visit to Ghana, Liberia and Senegal happened amid an emerging number of countries in Africa and Asia freeing themselves from the shackles of colonization and becoming newly freed nations.

For MLK, this fostered an intellectual, spiritual and moral kinship between global movements of oppressed people and nations fighting for freedom and the U.S. Civil Rights Movement.

“[Dr. King] recognized the strong parallel between resistance to European colonialism in Africa and the struggle against racism in the United States,” Dr. Franklin said.

MLK’s Africa connection alone is way more extensive than he’s usually given credit for. But he didn’t end his global tour in the motherland.

Additionally, MLK visited Europe and South America before going on a month-long trip to India in 1959.

“Gandhi was long gone, as he had been assassinated in 1948, but many in the world were beginning to regard young King as the new and emerging symbol of international nonviolence, persistence and social change,” added Franklin.

Few know of MLK’s international travels and his influence and inspiration that was and is felt well beyond his home country.

    Global Impact

Streets and boulevards named after King can be found all over the world, from Niger to Australia, Brazil to Germany. There is a park named for him in Paris, a church in Debrecen, Hungary, a school in Yaounde, Cameroon, and even a bridge in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

This global reach is due in part to the media’s coverage of the work MLK did in the U.S. But its also because MLK consciously connected the U.S. struggle for domestic equality for Black people with international concerns. MLK is legend in South Africa, as he was an outspoken critic of South Africa’s apartheid regime. MLK was also a harsh critic of European colonialism in Africa, South America and Asia. MLK also supported land reforms for those living in poverty in Latin America, and saw poverty as an international human rights issue.

It can be argued that MLK and the U.S. Civil Rights Movement inspired the 1965 adoption of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the first international human rights treaty since the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

MLK’s international reach extended via the many global leaders he inspired, with South Africa’s Nelson Mandela being just one of them. But just as important, yet even more rarely discussed is the impact Africa had on MLK.

  • Watch: ‘Donald Trump’ Calls In To City Hall Meeting, Bashes Leftist Mayor

’45th President’ slams city council’s liberal policies in new prank by Alex Stein featuring Trump impersonator Shawn Farash.

The Plano, Texas, City Council received a phone call from a man who sounded suspiciously similar to former President Donald Trump, in their latest interaction with comedian Alex Stein.

Appearing at a meeting this week, Stein held a conference call between the council members and “Trump,” who was voiced by impersonator Shawn Farash.

“You don’t know who you’re about to speak to. The one, the only 45th president of the United States of America, President Donald Trump,” Stein told the council before holding his phone to the microphone.

During the exchange, Stein suggested the 45th president make his signature sneakers a mandatory part of the Plano school district student uniform, and called out the town’s woke mayor for allowing transgender indoctrination in schools.

“Well, I think that’s terrible and you know,” the fake Trump responded.

“The only person that I talked to who goes from man to woman, his name is Lindsey Graham, you know what I’m saying?” joked the fake Trump, adding, “He sits when he pees.”

“I think it’s a terrible idea what you’re doing and I think we should absolutely look at this mayor,” said the Trump impersonator. “I think we have to look at him. Maybe we have to replace him. Maybe we have to get rid of them like Chris Christie gets rid of a plate of doughnuts. You know what I’m talking about?”

The faux Trump went on to criticize GOP contender Nikki Haley, and speculated Hunter Biden could be behind the white powder recently sent to Donald Trump, Jr.

“I think if you’re supporting Nikki Haley you have a lot of other things to think about,” said “Trump.”

“You’re probably crazier than the people who sent white powder to Don Jr. You heard about that? They sent it to him. I think Hunter Biden was trying to send my son mail. I think he thinks he’s a pen pal, and that’s not acceptable.”

Farash later thanked Stein on X for having him get in on the prank.

The Plano City Council has been a favorite target of Stein, whose particular brand of comedic activism has previously brought attention to the liberal insanity infecting the Dallas suburb and progressive cities nationwide.

  • How Fake Corps Member Was Caught In Nasarawa NYSC Camp

    NYSC

A fake National Youth Service Corps member, Ogeh Chibuife, has been nabbed by the Nasarawa State Police Command for illegal entry into the Magaji Dan Yumusa Orientation Camp, Keffi, the state capital.

A statement by the state police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, on Thursday stated that Chibuife who is an undergraduate at the Ebonyi State University confessed to had bought the NYSC gears in the market and had sneak into the camp to take pictures during the 21-day orientation programme meant for the 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members.

Nansel said the suspect, an extra year student of Public Administration, was discovered during a head count at the camp.

He said the case was reported to the police by an NYSC official on Sunday, and she was apprehended by officers of the force.

“Investigation revealed that the suspect was a student of Ebonyi State University, Faculty of Management Science and Department of Public Administration.

“She confessed that she was supposed to have graduated in 2022, but had a lot of spillover courses, and in a bid to cover up the lies she had made to her parents, she went to the market and purchased NYSC uniforms/other items meant for corps members and sneaked into the camp in order to take pictures and send to her parents before nemesis caught up with her,” he said.

Nansel also added that the suspect had been charged with criminal trespass, impersonation, and forgery at the Chief Magistrate Court in Keffi.

He warned the Nigerian youths to avoid being pushed into such acts as the law will eventually catch up with them.
