Fabrizio Romano has finally give his “here we go” on another Manchester United signing this summer.
The Red Devils have been making serious moves to create a younger, stronger United to carry the club into the future.
With 18-year-old Leny Yoro signed as a ‘generational talent’ in defence, and 23-year-old Joshua Zirkzee joining their strike force, United have now reportedly secured their third young, quality signing this summer.
Manchester United finally sign Chido Obi-Martin
After a couple of weeks of speculation, the sports journalist has confirmed that wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin is moving to Old Trafford.
The 16-year-old has reportedly agreed to the move, rejecting other offers from Germany to sign for United.
As per Romano, Ruud van Nistelrooy played a key role in getting the Chido Obi-Martin deal done. He spoke to Obi-Martin about development plan at United and convinced him to join.
Romano also confirmed that Obi-Martin’s move was motivated by the opportunity for first-team football rather than financial incentives, as German clubs offered higher packages.
Manchester United is known for providing significant game time to young players, second only to Brighton in the Premier League. Last season, United gave their teenage players 2,898 minutes of game time, compared to Brighton’s 3,751 minutes.
Comparing to the stats of his previous club, Arsenal only gave their teenage players 13 minutes of game time in the 2023/24, an incredible 2,883 minutes less than United.
This explains why Obi-Martin chose United over staying at Arsenal or signing with German clubs, as he sees a clearer pathway to first-team football at Old Trafford.
With players like Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho being so relied upon straight out of the United academy, it’s clear that Obi-Martin has a great shot at senior football with the move to Old Trafford.
