Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has pointed the finger of blame to three of his players following his side’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils were made to rue their missed chances after controlling the game for a long period of time without scoring, as former player Danny Welbeck found the back of the net against the run of play.

Marcus Rashford, who’s desperate to get back to his best form he displayed in the 2022/23 season, scored minutes after Welbeck’s goal but was adjudged offside, which saw United head into the half-time interval trailing.

Meanwhile, Amad Diallo gave Ten Hag’s side a lifeline on the hour mark, before United had another disallowed goal in what they thought was the winner with Joshua Zirkzee kneeing in Alejandro Garnacho’s goal bound strike from an offside position.

Though United’s attack was promising, the defending left a lot to be desired with Simon Adingra setting up an unmarked Joao Pedro at the back-post, who headed home for a dramatic winner, sending the Amex stadium into a delirium.

Erik ten Hag hits out at “three players”

Ten Hag was left unhappy at the manner his side conceded the stoppage time goal, and was critical of three of his stars for failing to stop the ball from bulging into the net.

“We didn’t stop the cross,” the Dutch manager lamented.

“There were three players [who could have avoided this], [Adingra is a] right-footed player. Send him down the line, send him wide instead of letting him come in and let the cross,” said a visibly dejected Ten Hag.

“We of course have to talk about this, how we act in that situation as a team. There were more than one mistake on that occasion and it has a big impact on the score,” he continued.

The 54-year-old drew comparisons to the goal they conceded against Manchester City in the Community Shield earlier this month.

“That’s [conceding in stoppage time] very disappointing yeah.

“Because, in the Community Shield we conceded just before time, we should be more clinical in such situations, read the game, take the point if you cant win anymore.

“We were close to winning this game but definitely don’t lose the game.”

United will host Arne Slot led-Liverpool at Old Trafford next week on Sunday, in what will be their third outing of the new Premier League season.

  • Southampton set to sign former Manchester United target

    Justin Bijlow

Newly promoted Premier League club Southampton have reached an agreement with Dutch giants over the signing of a former Manchester United target.

The Red Devils were in the market for a new shot stopper last summer after it was clear that club legend David de Gea won’t be the man between the sticks in the 2023/24 season, ending his 12-year stay at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag was reportedly looking for a modern day ball playing goalkeeper and turned to his former colleague at Ajax, Andre Onana, who was brought in as a successor to the Spaniard from Serie A giants Inter Milan in a deal worth up to €50 million last summer.

However, the Red Devils were still thin in the goalkeeping department despite signing the Cameroon international with Dean Henderson leaving the club for Crystal Palace.

This left Tom Heaton as the only experienced back up goalkeeper in their ranks, forcing United to delve deep into the market for another goalkeeper who will compete with Onana for the number one spot in goal.

United turned their focus to Justin Biglow, who spent his entire career at Feyenoord, coming through their youth system until he made it to the first team of the Eredivisie club.

Erik ten Hag’s side was heavily linked with the Dutch international’s signature for a major part of last summer, with the player also confirming United have made contact with his camp during an interview with FR12, a Feyenoord fan website.

Justin Bijlow said, “There was just contact. Manchester United have not made an offer to Feyenoord, but what I say: I don’t want to talk about it out of respect of Feyenoord,” said the 26-year-old shot stopper.

However, the move didn’t materialise as United never sent in a formal offer for the goalkeeper, instead they turned their attention to Turkish international Altay Bayindir, who was signed from Fenerbahce for €5 million in the same summer.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has exclusively revealed that Justin Bijlow will be playing in the Premier League this season, but for the Saints, who have reached a club to club verbal agreement with Feyenoord indicating that the famous ‘here we go’ is imminent for the transfer.

  • Manchester United hold discussions to now sign another wonderkid

    Erik ten Hag celebrating

Manchester United have done a fantastic job with the youth signings this summer.

The key highlights have got to be that of Chido Obi-Martin and Sekou Kone.

Obi-Martin was considered the most impressive youngster to be coming out of Arsenal’s Hale End academy, the academy that brought about Emile Smith-Rowe and Buyako Saka.

The move to United appears to be heavily influenced by new coaching addition, Ruud van Nistelrooy. The United legend spoke to the young striker about the development plan at Old Trafford and this appears to have outweighed the more financially beneficial offers from Germany.

As for Kone, the impressive defensive midfielder has officially joined the Red Devils for €1.5 million amid strong interest from RedBull Salzburg. It’s believed that, much like with Obi-Martin, one of United’s new additions helped with this move also, but this time it was recruitment specialist Christopher Vivell.

Vivell was in the role of recruitment at Salzburg when a series of impressive signings from Mali went through, and it appears he’s worked his magic once more, helping United get their man.

However, it’s now emerging that United are looking at another wonderkid to sign in January.

United continue talks for Sverre Halseth Nypan

UtdDistrict have now confirmed that nother youngster firmly on United’s radar is Rosenborg’s Sverre Halseth Nypan.

The Red Devil’s faced Nypan in the pre-season in their 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg, being impressed by his abilities. However this isn’t the first time United staff have watch the star, with frequent scouting visits by the recruitment team to watch Nypan recent seasons.

Billed as the “next Martin Odegaard”, Nypan is attracting a lot of attention and it’s clear to see why with the potential he’s showing.

Ultimately the Red Devils want to sign the 17-year-old, but due to Brexit regulations and him being outside of Britain, United can’t formally action anything for the midfielder until he turns 18 which will happen in December. So, the earliest United can officially move for the star is in the January transfer window.

It’s understood from Christopher Michel that United intended to speak to the youngster after their friendly in Nypan’s hometown of Trondheim, sounding out a move.

If United do sign the Norwegian star, it’s quite possible that they’ll loan him straight back to Rosenborg, with the midfielder happy with his current development there.

Speaking about the interest from United, Nypan said: “It would obviously be a dream come true to play for Manchester United.”

He continued: “I’m aware United has shown some interest. But I’m quite adamant that I don’t want to open that door yet. I want to focus on Rosenborg, and not think too far ahead.”

By signing him then agreeing a loan to remain at Rosenborg, it respects Nypan’s wishes to remain with the club, whilst also securing him as a United player.

Manchester United have had an impressive first summer under minority stakeholders INEOS led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, appointing new executives at board level as well.

The new-look recruitment team have brought in reinforcements to Erik ten Hag’s squad that finished 8th in the Premier League and won the FA Cup last season, earning their ticket to the Europa League.

Following a season that was marred by injury woes and leaking of goals, a centre-back was a top priority for United heading into the summer.

United looked at Jean-Clair Todibo as a potential target but the move didn’t materialise due to UEFA rules with INEOS owning OGC Nice as well.

The Red Devils then turned to Everton’s Jarrad Brainthwaite however there was a gap in valuation between the two clubs with the Merseyside club holding out on a fee worth £75 million.

Manchester United shifted their focus to Matthijs de Ligt, who has previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax and personal terms were not a problem as they were quickly agreed between the two parties.

Despite the two clubs taking too long to agree on a fee, ten Hag finally got his man on a €45m plus €5m in add-ons alongside Noussair Mazroui on €20m plus add-ons in what was a double deal for a combined €60m package,

Bayern director reveals why they sold Matthijs de Ligt

Now, Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has shed light on the reason behind selling the Dutch defender with a section of Bayern fans still not over his departure.

When asked why the club sold Matthijs de Ligt, he said: “I understand that there are fan favourites, but we don’t make decisions based on fan favourites.

“We made decisions with Kompany regarding defense, we wanted a left-footed defender.”

Bayern manager, Vincent Kompany also denied claims that he told the 25-year-old centre-back that he is his number one defender before being sold.

“It would have been so stupid of me to say something like that. It wouldnt fit with what we’ve planned for the entire squad. It makes no sense,” he said.

Eberl emphasised the importance of trimming the squad, using Chelsea as an example and also touched on balancing the books when continuing to explain the decision to sell De Ligt.

“You cant go in to the season with 35 players or do like Chelsea with 45 players. We spent money on Olise, Palhinha and Hiroki. So, as a club you have to generate money,” he stated.

  • Brighton beat Manchester United to sign Turkey international

News has just broken that Manchester United have now missed out on their left-back target, Ferdi Kadioglu.

The Turkey international was high up on United’s shortlist for left-back after his impressive performances last season for Fenerbahce and at Euro 2024.

United have been desperate for a new left-back thanks to their injury plagued season last year. Both of their seniors in the position, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, were ruled out for considerable periods.

Now, Kadioglu is on his way to the Premier League, but to Brighton instead.

Fabrizio Romano has given the move to Brighton his famous “here we go” this afternoon.

It’s understood the transfer has been agreed for €30 million to sign the defender from Fenerbahce.

Kadioglu already agreed personal terms two weeks ago to join on a five year deal.

It’s understood the medical is still to be arranged, but no doubt we’ll hear more in the coming days.

  • Brighton could be missing seven big players for Man United game

Brighton & Hove Albion’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, faces a challenging task ahead of their first home match of the 2024-25 Premier League season, as the team prepares to take on Manchester United this Saturday.

The Seagulls, who started their campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory over Everton last weekend, are in high spirits.

CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE CENTRE DEVILS WHATSAPP GROUP CHAT NOW!

However, Hurzeler remains cautious about the upcoming fixture, particularly due to injury concerns that could impact his squad’s performance.

Manchester United, on the other hand, began their season with a narrow 1-0 win against Fulham.

Despite the positive start for both teams, Hurzeler is realistic about the challenge that lies ahead.

“It would be a little too much if I say we’re the favourites against Manchester United,” Hurzeler stated. “I want us to bring our style of play and our potential on the pitch.”

Hurzeler emphasized the quality of Manchester United’s squad, particularly pointing out the individual brilliance of players like Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho.

Adding to Hurzeler’s concerns, Brighton could be without up to seven key players for the match against United.

This could prove to be a significant advantage for the visitors, who also have injury concerns but might find their task a bit easier given Brighton’s absentees.

Here are the players Brighton will miss for Saturday’s clash:

    1. Igor Julio – The Brazilian defender, who didn’t participate in pre-season, was absent from the matchday squad against Everton due to an unspecified injury.

    2. Solly March – The winger has returned to training as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury but is unlikely to be match-fit for another month.

    3. Bart Verbruggen – Brighton’s first-choice goalkeeper from the Netherlands is sidelined with an unspecified injury and is expected to return after the international break.

    4. Julio Enciso – The Paraguayan playmaker is recovering from a knee injury sustained during the summer Olympics.

    5. Evan Ferguson – The striker, who is recovering from a foot injury, has resumed training. However, his availability for the match against Manchester United remains doubtful.

    6. Tariq Lamptey – The defender featured in Brighton’s first pre-season match in Japan but has been out since due to an unspecified injury. Although back in training, his inclusion in the squad remains uncertain.

    7. Pervis Estupinan – The Ecuadorian left-back, recovering from ankle surgery, has returned to training. However, his fitness level may limit him to a place on the bench.

These absentees could significantly impact Brighton’s performance, as many of them are regular starters.

Manchester United, too, have their injury woes, with Rasmus Hojlund, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, and Tyrell Malacia all ruled out of the upcoming fixture.

  • Erik ten Hag confirms he has a future world-class player in his ranks

Erik ten Hag with Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is quickly assembling a team to be reckoned with.

The Red Devils’ recruitment this summer has done a great job of signing the incredibly impressive player that is Matthijs de Ligt and the generational talent of Leny Yoro.

However, ten Hag has also done an amazing job of fostering the existing talent to harness the potential of graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

Now, the United manager has come out and tipped one of his young stars to be a world-class player.

Erik ten Hag praises one of his graduates

The man in question is Argentine winger, Alejandro Garnacho.

Speaking to The Independent, ten Hag was asked what Garnacho would need to to get to the next level and show he’s a world-class player. Responding to this, the manager said: “Ah, you are going very quickly. World-class player, then he has to go a long way.”

He continued: “He has high potential, 100 per cent. He showed last season he can contribute, he can be a starting XI player. But to make the jump to become a world-class player, a long way to go and it starts with very hard work.

“That brought him where he is now and that will bring him to that world-class player because – and that is where I agree – he has the potential (to become). I agree we need but I think every club in the top needs players with, let’s say, the X factor,

“We already have seen on occasions that he has shows this X factor, but also others in our squad already have shown it. So, if you want to be that player where your colleague is talking about ‘world class’ then you have to do it consistently.”

After the 1-0 win against Fulham where Garnacho came of the bench to grab an assist, the winger has been attending the NAS Elite Sports Performance Centre in Manchester in order to improve his performance.

His tenacity to improve is certainly going to take the 20-year-old far, with the Argentine fighting for his first start of the season this Saturday against Brighton.

When discussing the competition for a place in the squad and that some top quality players may not make he squad, ten Hag said: “Exactly. You have to accept.”

He continued: “It is not only about the starters, it’s also about the finishers. So, I was very pleased last week that two players are coming on, Zirkzee and Garnacho, and making the difference – one gave the assist, the other makes the goal.

“That is what we need throughout the whole season. You don’t win with 11 players. In games but also between games, you need more than 11 players to win the football games.”

  • Manchester United to access £77bn with revolutionary tech inside new Old Trafford

    Old Trafford

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s plans to either remodel Old Trafford or build a new stadium is possibly the biggest changes he’s instigating since becoming a minority owner at Manchester United.

The INEOS owner is keen to develop the infrastructure at United where it’s been relatively unaltered for two decades under the complete Glazer ownership.

Since 2010, United have spent £98 million on their infrastructure with all the Big Six, and Brentford, Brighton and Leicester spending a considerable amount more.

A good marker of how little has changed over time is the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo left United for Real Madrid in 2010 and returned in 2021, noticing very little change with the facilities.

CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE CENTRE DEVILS WHATSAPP GROUP CHAT NOW!

Already, Ratcliffe has stepped up and authorised a £50 million refurbishment of the Carrington training groups which has seen the men’s first team move into the women’s section of the training complex.

However, this is nothing compared to the next instalment in the upgrades to United’s infrastructure.

    Manchester United’s new Old Trafford

Whilst there have been a few plans in mind with United’s home ground, including developing Old Trafford further or demolishing it to rebuild a new stadium, the new most likely way forward will be keeping the iconic ground.

The INEOS owner is now looking at scaling down Old Trafford to become a 30,000 seater venue hosting matches for the Women’s team and the academy squads, whilst building a completely new stadium next door.

Doing this will preserve the history of Old Trafford, such as the iconic player and coaching statues of Matt Busby, Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best, Denis Law and Jimmy Murphy, as well as the tributes of the tragic Munich disaster in 1958, such as the Munich clock and the Munich tunnel.

However, the stadium next door is due to be a state of the are, 100,000 seated venue, being billed as the “Wembley of the North”.

It’s expected that the development of the ground will cost around £2 billion, however, that’s nothing compared to the gold mine their going to be tapping into in a revolutionary way.

Revolutionary Technology at the new Old Trafford

Whilst designing the new stadium, it’s understood that Ratcliffe’s team have visited a number of stadia and architecture firms to help with their plans.

One stadium they visited was the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, which just so happened to host one of the pre-season tour fixtures. The LA stadium saw United’s opening tour game against Arsenal, with the Red Devils suffering a 2-1 loss.

The 70,000 seater home of the LA Rams NFL team is considered one of the best multi-purpose venue in the world, regarded this way from their ground breaking facilities.

One of their unique features which United want to replicate is the use of Augmented Reality, or AR.

Augmented Reality allows for technology to enhance the reality your seeing, with a screen or camera adding extra objects or information to what’s in front of you.

A great example of this is Snapchat or Instagram filters which add things to the image before a photo is taken, or games like Pokemon Go which augment Pokemon into the real world through screen.

But how is this going to be used in the new stadium?

Well, the SoFi Stadium has an on-site screening venue which allows fans to watch all manner of sports fixture as though they were actually in the stadium.

Much like with the camera filters on your phone of Pokemon Go, the technology makes other features appear to be right in front of you and in the world around. In this case, it’s a whole football game, with you pitch side.

This means that fans from around the world can watch the United games as if they were sat pitch side at Old Trafford themselves.

Recently footage has emerged of this in action, with the SoFi stadium broadcasting the United game against Fulham in to United’s LA-based fans which you can see below.

The footage shows the venue at the SoFi stadium with everyone appearing to be sat right behind Andre Onana’s goal for a corner, with screens in the rafters to show the televised angle of the match.

This impressive piece of technology is incredibly profitable, with the current augmented reality market being worth £17 billion, however with developments in reality technology such as the metaverse, augmented and virtual reality, the market is expected to rocket to £77 billion by 2030.

Several stadiums across America now use AR by allowing fans to view player stats, and game information through their phone cameras, appearing to be overlaying the information over the game.

It’s expected that this technology is going to be the future of fans matchday experience, and clubs like United are keen to get in on the action first, allowing to capitalise on their oversees fanbase.

It’s expected that with the new stadium, through the use of AR, naming rights, hospitality and other commercial ventures, the Red Devil are predicted to earn up to £230 million per season. This is a huge jump up from their current £136 million, which is already the highest in the Premier League, with Spurs in second place with £118 million thanks to the facilities of their new stadium.

Thankfully as well, the cost of the stadium is PSR-deductible, meaning the development won’t count against the club PSR expectations.

  • Sky Sports report Napoli now officially submitted bid for Scott McTominay

    Scott McTominay

The transfer interest in Manchester United’s Scott McTominay has been a bit of a wild ride of late.

He’s easily been United’s most sellable asset on the back of his career best ten goals last season.

As a result teams like Everton, Spurs, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Fulham have all been interested in the Scotland international. Further afield, Napoli and Turkish sides Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have also been interested, with Galatasaray actually agreeing terms with the star.

However, Fulham were, until the start of the week, leading the race for the midfielder, being the only club to actually bid for McTominay, having two bids rejected.

CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE CENTRE DEVILS WHATSAPP GROUP CHAT NOW!

On Monday Fulham met the asking price for McTominay before doing a shock U-turn, abandoning the deal and signing Sander Berge instead.

This left Serie A side, Napoli, as the front runners for the midfielder’s signature. The Italian club have been long-term fans of the Scot, hoping to lure him to Serie A for some time.

Now reports have emerged of Napoli launching their first bid for the 27-year-old.

    Napoli’s initial bid for McTominay

Sky Sports have reported that Napoli have put in a bid for a loan deal with an obligation to buy, understood to be for the value of €25 million.

Whilst this falls under United’s valuation of €30 million, reports from Alfredo Pedulla have claimed that a meeting has taken place in the last two hours, and the deal for McTominay is “moving forwards”.

It’s also been announced that McTominay has given them priority, presumably meaning that he’s happy to agree to personal terms with the club.

With news that this deal is moving quickly, given the positivity of the meeting in the last couple of hours, no doubts we’ll hear more over the weekend.

  • Jamie Carragher reveals Manchester United have signed a Real Madrid-level player

    Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville

Manchester United have made a number of great signings this summer with praise for stars moving to Old Trafford, both to the senior squad and the academy. However, one has been highlighted as the best Premier League signing of the summer by Jamie Carragher.

It’s very rare you’ll hear the Liverpool legend praise a Red Devil, however the is one man who deserves the praise enough for the England international to put the rivalry aside.

Whilst Leny Yoro has been regarded as a generational talent, with Real Madrid interested in the centre-back, it’s his fellow defender who has received the praise from Carragher.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher was joined by former United captain, Gary Neville, to rank the three biggest-money signings of the Premier League this summer.

CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE CENTRE DEVILS WHATSAPP GROUP CHAT NOW!

The three in question were Tottenham Hotspur’s Dominic Solanke, Chelsea’s Pedro Neto and Manchester United’s Matthijs de Ligt.

It was one of the rare occasions where the two pundits agreed, marking de Ligt in the top spot.

Speaking about the defender, Carragher said: “He is the best player (of the three), I think,”

He continued: “He’s a Barcelona-type of player or even maybe a Real Madrid. He’s got the pedigree in terms of where he’s come from and the clubs he’s played for.”

However this isn’t the first Premier League legend to praise the centre-back, with Roy Keane labelling de Ligt as “a good signing”.

The £38 million move for the Dutch defender brought him from Bayern Munich which he moved to from Juventus, giving him an already impressive run of clubs for a 25-year-old. And not just being registered with the clubs, but being a member of regular starting XIs.

The only thing that affected de Ligt’s appearances last season was a knee ligament tear, ruling him out of 18 games.
