  • Casemiro rejects move to Turkey after Manchester United agreed deal

With the closing days of the Turkish, Dutch, and Saudi Arabian transfer windows soon upon us, Manchester United have one last chance of offloading some stars this summer.

One of their men who was deemed a priority sale this summer was Brazilian midfielder Casemiro. The veteran has been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Al-Nassr, however, nothing has materialised.

Now though, Casemiro has recently been linked with Turkish champions, Galatasaray. The Super Lig club are looking to bring in an experienced central midfielder before the transfer window closes on the 13th September.

Turkish publication, Turkiye Gazetesi, has reported an update on Galatasaray’s pursuit of the Brazil international, reporting a deal was done yesterday to see the United midfielder move to the Turkish club on a season-long loan deal.

However, it’s also reported that Casemiro wasn’t convinced on the move, wanting to remain in England and fight for a place in the United squad.

Unfortunately for Casemiro, he’ll have stiff competition with the recent signing of Manuel Ugarte. The Uruguayan is expected to overtake Casemiro in the pecking order, especially if Casemiro’s recent performances are anything to go by.

The Brazil international has come under much criticism after his poor showing against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Casemiro was taken off at half-time with his mistakes costing The Red Devils two goals and ultimately, the match.

Interestingly, Casemiro is looking to fight for his spot in Erik ten Hag’s squad after recently criticising the manager’s style of play. The 32-year-old has claimed that ten Hag’s style of play and tactics last year “didn’t play to his strengths, but exposed his weaknesses with him having to cover more ground.”

  • Manchester United Europa League squad announced

Erik ten Hag in press conference

Manchester United have now confirmed their 25-man squad for the Europa League.

The Red Devils gained entry to the European competition after winning the FA Cup Final against Manchester City in the final match of the season. Goals from academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho sealed the 2-1 victory. As such, it’s odd to see that both men have been left out of the announced team list.

Erik ten Hag has opted for a squad predominantly made up of defenders, suggesting a very reserved style of play when going forwards.

So, the squad list that’s been announced is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Andre Onana, Dermot Mee

Defence: Victor Lindelöf, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez, Tyrell Malacia, Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, Harry Amass

Midfield: Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte

Attack: Rasmus Højlund, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo, Antony

Apart from Garnacho and Mainoo being left out of the squad, the squad list is fairly as expected, however the inclusion of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony suggests the club are not likely to offload the trio in the coming days.

Casemiro has been linked with a move to Galatasaray, having now been reported as not wanting the move and instead wanting to fight for his spot at United. His inclusion in the squad list twill definitely have given him a boost, especially with Toby Collyer not being selected, despite replacing Casemiro in United’s recent 3-0 loss to Liverpool.

  • Manchester United facing points deduction

Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Manchester United have had an incredibly eventful transfer market with five big-name purchases being made.

Firstly we had Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee followed by Leny Yoro of LOSC Lille. Then there was the Bayern Munich duo of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, before their final purchase of Manuel Ugarte.

The total cost of the five comes to an incredible £180 million during Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first transfer window at the helm of United.

However, with only £50 million in the starting transfer budget, back at the start of the summer, Ratcliffe shortlisted a series of seven players to be sold to generate the transfer funds needed for their targets, aiming for £200 million to be raised.

Unfortunately with the sales that completed this summer, including those not on their shortlist, only £87 million was raised.

Further to this, back in July, the club announced a loss of £71.4 million for the third quarter (January to March 2024), with revenues shrinking by £30 million.

Now, former chief of Everton, Keith Wyness has claimed that United could be “very close” to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breaches over their spending which could see a points deduction.

Speaking on the Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness reported: “Selling assets like McTominay, Wan-Bissaka and a couple of others will have helped. It’s the first time they’ve managed to sell over £100million of players for quite a few years.”

He continued: “With them being a public company and having to report every quarter, you’d hope that a PSR breach could never occur at Man United.

“However, they’ll be very close. Hopefully, they’ve got enough accountants in the building. It would be a mistake of the highest order if they were to breach the rules.”

  • Western Sydney Wanderers officially sign former Manchester United star

    Western Sydney Wanderers Stadium

Today, Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to confirm the new signing of a former Manchester United star by Western Sydney Wanderers.

Last season the Wanderers came seventh overall which was a step down from their previous fourth place in the 2022/23 season. Now the club is looking to bring in something special to help them fight for a higher finish.

The Australian side is now turning one of United’s former midfielders who has won trophies with every club he’s played at, hoping his record won’t stop now.

Of course, the man in question is Spanish midfielder, Juan Mata.

Mata moved to Galatasaray in 2022 from United on a free transfer. Whilst there the midfielder made 18 appearances, grabbing three goals and two assists, lifting the Super Lig trophy. However, unfortunately for the former Red Devil, Mata only made one appearance for Vissel Kobe when he moved to the J1 League on another free transfer. Despite only making one appearance, Vissel Kobe won the league, adding another league title to Mata’s trophy cabinet.

Since leaving Old Trafford though, Mata hasn’t quite reached the level of play that he was so well regarded for. In 285 games at United, Mata made 94 goal contributions with 43 assists and scored 51 himself. But even this was only half the level that the Spaniard showed at Chelsea, scoring 33 goals and grabbing 53 assists in only 153 games.

Now though, on his way to Sydney, Mata has turned to social media to send a message to the Australian club’s fans.

Posting on X, Mata said: “I’m feeling, again, very thankful to football for the many experiences and joy that keeps bringing to my life… Today, a new adventure is starting, and I’m super excited about it! I will keep enjoying this amazing sport by playing not only in a different country… but in a different continent: AUSTRALIA, HERE I GO!”

It continued: “I have always been amazed with your country and longed to live there… Now, I will do it in the beautiful city of Sydney. I’m joining @wswanderersfc, the only Australian team to ever win the Asian Champions League, and I cannot wait to arrive and train with the team to prepare for the season ahead. Feeling grateful and excited for this new adventure, and looking forward to trying to win another championship in a different league!

“Let’s go Western Sydney Wanderers, I’m one of you

“Ps: Friends & Family, if you are thinking about visiting, please plan in advance this time.”

No doubt Mata will be hoping to get more game time than in Japan, with the fans hoping for even just a glimmer of what the midfielder was once capable of.

  • Matthijs de Ligt reveals why he chose Manchester United

    Matthijs de Ligt

This summer saw Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt move to Old Trafford with Manchester United rebuilding their back line.

De Ligt, despite being only 24, has already had an impressive career with Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Back in his days at Ajax, de Ligt played under Erik ten Hag, with the manager entrusting his young centre back with the captain’s armband.

This move saw the Eridivise side win the league and domestic cup with de Ligt as the club’s youngest ever captain.

Now though, the defender has come out to discuss why he was so set on moving to Old Trafford.

Speaking to the club’s media team, de Ligt explained: “This summer when United came for me and, yeah, the trainer [Ten Hag] also wanted me really badly — and the club also — it made it, for me, really easy,”

He continued: “To get the chance to get to the Premier League first of all, and second of all to, I think, the biggest club in English football history.

“For me, it was a really easy choice to make.”

De Ligt also went on to discuss the future of the club and how they move forwards, saying: “They won two prizes in two years, obviously really good,”

He continued: “But I think everybody agrees that United also has to play for the Premier League title, to compete with the other clubs that are fighting for this title.

“I think that’s a really nice challenge and nice project what I really look forward to try to help the team [with] as much as possible.”

  • Manchester United wonderkid scores hat-trick on international debut

Manchester United have got a lot to be excited about over the coming years.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to make Old Trafford the home of the best football development for youngsters, and he looks set to deliver on this.

Over the summer, United made incredible signings, with Chido Obi-Martin, Samuel Lusale, and Sekou Kone joining their ranks.

This isn’t even beginning to mention existing graduate stars like Toby Collyer, Harry Amass, and Ethan Wheatley.

However, one new name to note is Louie Bradbury.

Bradbury was signed by Manchester United from Shrewsbury Town in early 2023.

Now 15, Bradbury has already made waves at the Wales under-16s level with three goals, earning him a call-up to the under-17s.

His debut couldn’t have been better.

The Wales under-17s recently took on Gibraltar, coming out on top 5-0.

Louie Bradbury shone with a hat-trick in the first half, setting his team up for a comfortable win.

He completed his hat-trick by the 36th minute, and the game continued smoothly, with his team coasting to victory.

Shea Pita from Everton and Oli Newman from Southampton contributed to the final score in the second half, sealing the 5-0 triumph.

Bradbury’s inaugural season at Manchester United’s academy was a hit.

The striker boasted an impressive 40 goals across all competitions for the youth teams.

His numbers suggests he’s ready to move up to the under-18s.

While Louie Bradbury hasn’t officially played for the under-18s yet, he participated in a summer youth tournament alongside older prospects, showcasing his skills.

His knack for scoring on an international stage highlights his natural goal-scoring ability, showing his potential to be a valuable asset for the first team in the future.

  • Anthony Martial in shock approach from Brazil

    Anthony Martial

It seems that Anthony Martial is a man in much demand recently.

The France international left Manchester United on a free transfer after 9 years at the club.

Despite his immense talent, injuries just got the best of the attacker.

Once dubbed the next Thierry Henry, Martial has spent the summer wondering what his next move is going to be,

It seemed that we had the answer to that question yesterday.

Greek side AEK Athens had offered Anthony Martial the highest contract in their history according to reports.

AEK were keen on bringing Martial to the club and put down a hefty proposal to make it happen.

But it seems that they’re not the only ones keen on bringing the former United man to the club.

Fabrizio Romano has just tweeted that Brazil side Flamengo have made contact to sign Anthony Martial.

Flamengo has suffered an ACL injury to their striker Pedro and are looking for a replacement.

Martial is seen as one of the options to replace the Brazil international upfront.

It is believed that the club are also considering several other options if a move for Martial fails.

So it seems that the clamour to sign Anthony Martial is finally picking up.

With the player available on a free transfer, it seems a relatively low risk signing for any club to make.

Whoever does manage to sign the talented attacker will hope he’s able to replicate some of the talent that he showed while playing at Old Trafford.

  • The Guardian reports Erik ten Hag job is now at risk

Manchester United have entered the international break with a disappointing start to the Premier League, having won once and lost twice so far.

Joshua Zirkzee was the man of the hour in their 1-0 win over Fulham, coming off the bench to grab a debut day goal. However, things have gone south from there.

A last minute extra time goal from Joao Pedro saw United lose their second game to Brighton 2-1, whilst Liverpool overwhelmed Erik ten Hag’s men at Old Trafford to win 3-0.

The Guardian have now reported that ten Hag’s game model has to start impressing Manchester United’s football department led by INEOS. If things don’t improve, he is in danger of being replaced, with the style of play the Dutchman is delivering so far this season being viewed as underwhelming.

Whilst there is recognition inside the club of the injuries that Ten Hag has had to navigate, there are serious concern regarding how he sets up the side.

This is a breaking story with more information to follow.

  • Southampton wonderkid set to miss Manchester United game

With the international break now upon, Manchester United will be looking towards their next Premier League fixture later this month.

The Red Devils are set to face Southampton away from home, with two of their current injured stars looking to return for the game.

Long-term injury Luke Shaw is due to return, finally giving Eric ten Hag a natural left-back to take to the field, rather than relying on Diogo Dalot to cover.

The other returning face is striker Rasmus Hojlund. With Joshua Zirkzee still finding his feet, ten Hag will finally have both of his attacking options to choose from again.

However, on the opposition’s side, it’s unlikely that The Saints’ wonderkid will be taking the field.

18-year-old academy star Tyler Dibling is one of the hottest prospects at the club, being a standout performer in the pre-season.

The academy graduate has come off the bench in each of the Saints’ three Premier League games this season. However, the attacking midfielder received his first competitive start in the Carabao Cup against Cardiff City where they won 5-3, with Dibling grabbing two assists.

Speaking in a recent press conference about the youngster, Saints boss Russell Martin commented: “Tyler was brilliant. He was our biggest attacking threat. He was on the pitch for 15 minutes and he’s 18.”

He continued: “We need a bit more of that mentality, that freedom to go and create, but he’s a really special talent.”

However, it’s unlikely that Dibling will be featuring heavily against United.

The midfielder is currently away with the England Under-19s alongside Southampton team-mate Sam Amo-Ameyaw.

It’s expected that Martin is going to spend the break working out his plan for the next block of games. Unfortunately though, Dibling’s absence may see him sidelined in Southampton’s immediate plans.
