  • Ari ‘fLoE’ Weintraub has sadly passed away

The fighting game community has taken a big hit with the loss of one of our own, a mentor, rival, training partner, and most importantly, friend.

Ari ‘fLoE’ Weintraub sadly passed away on October 16, 2023. He had just turned 39 years old.

Born in Park Ridge, Illinois, Weintraub became a prominent member of the Chicago area FGC before making a name for himself on the world stage and eventually moving to Las Vegas, Nevada.

fLoE was a fierce competitor across a multitude of fighting games including Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, Soul Calibur, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, Darkstalkers and Injustice: Gods Among Us.

He was part of one of the earliest large FGC eSports teams with Evil Geniuses for multiple years as well starting in 2011.

Beyond just being a player, Weintraub was also known as a lab monster pioneering the latest tech and one of the best training partners anyone could ask for — as well as someone who was quick to try and make you laugh.

Although he had retired from competing, fLoE was still active in the FGC where he had close friends from all around the world.

He also contributed to channels / shows including Capcom Pro Talk, Cross Counter and his own live stream.

Professionally, he worked as a game tester and other roles for a time on titles like Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition with Iron Galaxy, The Fast and the Furious, Cruis’n and Target: Terror.

Weintraub reportedly passed surrounded by his loved ones after suffering a series of strokes.

“My best friend Floe has passed away. Myself and his closest friends were there to be with him,” wrote Justin Wong on Twitter. “He lived a great life and made many people happy with his streams. An amazing guy and he was there when I first started. I love you and keep a seat for me so we can run a set.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests to please send donations to Chabad of Northbrook, Illinois 2095 Landwehr Road Northbrook, Illinois 60062 or Chabad of Henderson 524 Carnegie Street Henderson, NV 89052.

Everyone at EventHubs offers our deepest condolences to the Weintraub family and fLoE’s close friends from every corner of the globe. He will be dearly missed.

  • Leak Teases Nvidia RTX 4080/4070 ‘Super’ GPUs; Details Here

RTX 4080 Ti or RTX 4080 Super

Change just might be on the horizon! NVIDIA’s RTX 4080, RTX 4070, and RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards just might be getting more upgrades after all. According to some information that has been churning up in the rumor mill, we have multiple reasons to believe that Nvidia is planning to release more RTX 40 Series graphics cards under the long-gone ‘Super‘ branding. Here is what the graphics card leaks say regarding Nvidia’s rumored RTX 4080 & 4070 GPUs getting a ‘Super’ refresh variant!

Nvidia Reportedly Planning To Launch ‘Super’ Variant Of RTX 40 Series GPUs

The rumor comes from a hardware leaker on X known as Hongxing2020. The new update he shared talks about three particular graphics cards from the Nvidia RTX 40 Series lineup, and he’s clearly hinting at these specific GPUs getting a refreshed ‘Super’ variant soon. These include the likes of 4080, 4070, and 4070 Ti.

Talking about the expected specifications, we can only speculate for now. The RTX 40 Series graphics card lineup by Nvidia could see any of the following upgrades when their ‘Super’ variants launch: increased VRAM capacity, higher clock speeds, increased memory bandwidth, and a higher TGP (total graphics power).

    Graphics Card Specifications
    RTX 4070 Super 12GB GDDR6X
    RTX 4080 Super 20GB GDDR6X
    RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB GDDR6X
Speculated specifications of RTX 4080 Super, 4070 Super, and 4070 Ti Super graphics cards

Sadly, no date was mentioned in this leak, so we can’t say for sure when these above-rumored RTX 40 Series Super graphics cards will come out. We did previously cover rumors of an RTX 4080 Super or 4080 Ti coming in 2024, so we could see these Super graphics cards launch in the upcoming year.

Take the Leak with a Grain of Salt

There are a few reasons to believe this rumor might not be true, though. Let’s explore that perspective: Nvidia has previously used the ‘Super’ on the RTX 20 Series. Supposedly, the company also canceled the ‘Super’ branding for the RTX 30 Series. Nvidia has never put the ‘Ti’ suffix in tandem with the ‘Super’ suffix, so the likelihood of an upcoming Nvidia graphics card being called ‘RTX 4070 Ti Super‘ is quite low. It could be a surprising development, but the model name ends up sounding weird.

Still, we are in the early stage of RTX 40 Series ‘Refresh’ variant graphics card leaks. Nvidia could launch new ‘Ti’ suffix variants, change up the VRAM capacity, or launch new RTX 40 Series GPUs with the ‘Super’ branding, as the leaker mentions. In any case, there is a long time to wait before the RTX 50 Series makes its debut. We will keep you updated whenever Nvidia releases any graphics cards, so stay tuned!

What are your thoughts on the rumored ‘RTX Super graphics cards that Nvidia might launch? Will you be buying the RTX 4080 Super if it comes out? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Google Pixel 6 has “storage space” issues after Android 14 update

Android 14 is the latest version of the Android operating system. However, some Google Pixel 6 users have been facing issues with this update. Specifically, users are reporting that their phone’s storage space cannot be accessed after upgrading to Android 14. This issue is affecting users who had multiple profiles on their devices before installing Android 14. Without access to the internal storage, some apps also had issues as they couldn’t download any data to the phone. Also, using the Files app to free up space didn’t work either.

    Google Pixel 6

    The Storage Issue

Following the installation of Android 14, the main profile on a Pixel 6 series device seems to lose access to storage. This prevents users from taking photos or videos, downloading files, and both installing or uninstalling applications. The storage issues vary, but some users have reported losing complete access to their Pixel 6’s internal storage and all the files stored within it. Others can still access storage, but they’ll see “storage is full” notifications and experience random app crashes. In all cases, users have plenty of free storage space, but the Pixel 6 simply isn’t recognizing it.

According to Android Police, when users go to the Files app, it only displays the storage space used by downloaded apps. All other categories show the storage used as zero, including Downloads, Images, Videos, Audio, and Documents.

There are also users who are experiencing random app crashes and “storage full” issues, even though their phones actually have plenty of free storage. According to reports, switching to the secondary profile can solve the problem. However, you will not be able to access any app or files associated with the primary profile. Oddly, this issue doesn’t seem to affect Pixel 7 models. If you have multiple user profiles on your Pixel 6, avoid updating to Android 14 until Google rolls out a possible fix. Google has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix, but it’s unclear when it will be released.

    Google Pixel 6

    Potential Solutions

If you’re a Pixel 6 user who hasn’t updated to Android 14 yet, it’s best to hold off until the issue is resolved. If you’ve already updated and are experiencing storage issues, there are a few things you can try:

    Restart Your Device

Sometimes, a simple restart can fix the issue. Press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then tap “Restart.”

    Clear Cache Partition

Clearing the cache partition can help fix issues with the system cache, which can sometimes cause storage issues. To do this, turn off your device, then press and hold the power button and volume down button until the bootloader screen appears. Use the volume buttons to navigate to “Recovery mode” and press the power button to select it. When the Android robot appears, press and hold the power button, then press the volume up button once. Use the volume buttons to navigate to “Wipe cache partition” and press the power button to select it. When the process is complete, select “Reboot system now.”

    Factory Reset

If all else fails, you can try a factory reset. This will erase all data on your device, so make sure you have a backup before proceeding. To do this, go to Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset).

Android 14 offers Google Pixel 6 a lot

Though Google Pixel 6 users are facing a few issues associated with the Android 14, this update brings a lot to this phone. Here are some of the positives and fixes that Android 14 brings to Google Pixel 6:

    Android 14

    Longer Battery Life

Pixel phones have long been the subject of complaints over short battery life and overheating under normal use, especially the Pixel 6. Google did attempt to fix some of those issues in the Pixel 7, but complaints still lingered — especially after software updates. However, Android 14 seems to have done the opposite, with Pixel 6 and 7 users actually reporting longer battery life and fewer overheating issues after upgrading. The notes on Android 14 do mention improvements to Battery Saver, where users can now see exactly what is being restricted and select essential apps to continue running, plus the ability to turn on Extreme Battery Saver at 20% instead of 10%, but that’s not the battery.

    Improved Overheating Issues

If your Google Pixel 6 or Google Pixel 7 is getting rather warm at times, help may be at hand: users are reporting that these overheating problems are getting fixed with the rollout of the new Android 14 software update. Reports of toasty temperatures on the Pixel phones from 2021 and 2022 have been pretty widespread, and it’s common knowledge that the Tensor G1 and Tensor G2 chipsets inside these handsets tend to push thermal capacities to the limit. However, Android 14 has applied the necessary tweaks and optimizations to keep everything a bit more chilled out.

    Improved Connectivity

Android 14 has also brought improvements to connectivity. The adaptive connectivity feature has been improved, which allows the phone to switch between 5G, 4G, and Wi-Fi depending on the user’s location and network availability. This feature has been around for a while, but it’s now more intelligent and can save battery life by switching to a lower power mode when the phone is idle.

    Improved User Interface

Android 14 has also brought some improvements to the user interface. The notification shade has been redesigned, and it now shows more information at a glance. The quick settings panel has also been updated, and it now includes more options and customization features. The lock screen has also been updated, and it now shows more information, including the weather and upcoming events.

    Android 14

    Fixes for Multiple Profile Issues

Following the installation of Android 14, the main profile on a Pixel 6 series device seems to lose access to storage, which prevents users from taking photos or videos, downloading files, and both installing or uninstalling applications. This issue is affecting users who had multiple profiles on their devices before installing Android 14. However, Google has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix.

    Conclusion

Android 14 is causing storage issues for some Pixel 6 users, but Google is working on a fix. If you’re experiencing storage issues, try restarting your device, clearing the cache partition, or doing a factory reset. If you haven’t updated to Android 14 yet, it’s best to hold off until the issue is resolved. Despite these issues, Android 14 brings several positive changes to the Google Pixel 6. This includes longer battery life, improved overheating issues, better connectivity, and better user interface.

  • Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition bans Sindel unblockable and Shujinko Kameo against General Shao starting with ECT2023

Mortal Kombat 1 was released just last month. Though NetherRealm Studios has previously stated that Mortal Kombat 1 is the entry in the series that has probably had the most amount of development time out of any Mortal Kombat, there have been a number of problematic exploits that were discovered shortly after release.

Earlier this month, the Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition was announced to feature a $255,000 prize pool for a Mortal Kombat 1 tournament circuit. As one might imagine, certain rulings need to be in place for some of these exploits until NetherRealm Studios is able to patch them out for the sake of preserving a degree of fairness at these events.

According to NRSEsports, two temporary rules have been added to the circuit for East Coast Throwdown 2023, a major tournament scheduled to take place this weekend on October 20, 2023 and last until October 22, 2023.

At the time of writing this, East Coast Throwdown 2023’s Mortal Kombat 1 event has about 296 registered to compete. First place will be awarded around $5,490 and 400 points for the Mortal Kombat 1 tournament circuit.

One of the rules prohibits Sindel from using an unblockable exploit. Additionally, players that intend to use Sindel at the event are required to inform bracket judges that they’ll be using Sindel, likely to monitor to ensure that the unblockable never gets used during a set.

“Use of Sindel’s unblockable exploit is banned and will result in forfeiture of the round,” said NRSEsports on Twitter. “Sindel players must inform bracket judges they will be using her in tournament.”

It’s been previously reported that Sindel has an unblockable reset that can bizarrely happen when Sindel is specifically paired with Sub-Zero. Combined with her unique ability to disable the opponent’s combo breaker temporarily, this makes it so that Sindel can potentially perform a near inescapable touch of death combo consisting of multiple unblockable resets.

The second rule is an outright ban of Shujinko as a Kameo, but only when the opponent is using General Shao. This is due to how Shujinko can permanently remove General Shao’s ax stance from a match.

Once General Shao sticks his ax into the ground, all the opponent has to do from there is use Shujinko’s down, forward, and Kameo special, then General Shao will lose access to half of his moveset. Shujinko doesn’t even necessarily need to hit with this special to replicate the exploit.

While this might sound bad for those that have been practicing with Shujinko as a Kameo, it’s generally recognized that General Shao is one of the weaker characters on the Mortal Kombat 1 tier list. Therefore, the enactment of this rule will likely be a rarity with how the meta is at going into East Coast Throwdown 2023 this weekend.

Finally, it’s noted that judges will be monitoring matches and will be making calls for any circumstances not mentioned. This rule is probably necessary just in case there are other exploits that haven’t yet been discovered by the Mortal Kombat 1 community as a whole.

Shortly after Mortal Kombat 1 released, an oversight was discovered that made it so that the player in the player 1 slot was always at an advantage over the player 2 slot. Earlier this month, NetherRealm Studios abolished Player 1 Advantage with a patch in a timely manner.

With the reveal of these temporary rules, we can expect that NetherRealm Studios will probably make haste to also address these issues in a future patch for Mortal Kombat 1.

  • X (Previously Twitter) Will Now Charge You for Creating New Accounts

This image represents the former Twitter logo and the new Twitter logo projected via two different smartphones

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter (now X), we have seen the platform making a number of features paid. It put the glorious blue tick behind the Blue (now Premium) subscription, along with several other features. Now, it has introduced a new subscription service, which will require you to pay for creating new accounts. Here are the details.

Now Pay on X for Signing Up!

X has introduced a new test program called ‘Not A Bot,’ which will charge you $1 a year for signing up on the platform. So, if you are planning to finally step into the X world, you will first have to pay a small amount before you start using it.

The subscription service is aimed at reducing the number of bot accounts on the platform so that there’s less spam. X says that this has been “developed to bolster our already successful efforts to reduce spam, manipulation of our platform, and bot activity while balancing platform accessibility with the small fee amount. It is not a profit driver.

If you are signing up for the first time, you will have to verify your phone number and then choose the ‘Not A Bot’ program to enable functionalities like posting, liking posts, reposting, quoting, and more. There will also be an option to go for the X Premium plan. If you don’t want to pay at all, you will only have the ability to read posts, follow others, and watch videos.

The program is being tested in New Zealand and the Philippines for “new accounts on the web” as of now. In New Zealand, it will cost $1.43 NZD per year, and in the Philippines, there will be a charge of ₱42.51 PHP per year. There’s no word on whether or not it will reach other countries and it all depends on how this test is received by people!

While the fee is pretty nominal, it still feels forced; a way for X to make almost all things paid for by both new and existing users. This can be quite discouraging for many as very basic features are turning paid and might averse many from using the platform. That said, it’s a test and it is mandatory for it to stay forever. We shall see how this pans out! Until then, are you willing to sign up for X by paying money? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Introducing the Honor X9b: Durability Meets Performance

Honor has silently launched the Honor X9b. The smartphone has just made its appearance on the official website. It’s the successor of the Honor X9a, which the brand launched in January of this year.

And as a proper successor to the predecessor, the Honor X9b brings updates across the board. That includes a larger display, better camera configuration, larger battery, and a build that’s geared to withstand use and abuse better in the long run.

    Main Highlights of Honor X9b

As mentioned earlier, the Honor X9b is a proper successor to its predecessor. To grasp the updates it brings, let’s delve into its specifications.

Better Display for Enhanced Viewing Experience

On the front, the Honor X9b comes with a curved 6.78-inch AMOLED screen. It features a 1200 x 2652 px resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. This 1.5K panel can deliver crisp details and vivid colors. And it can offer up to 1200 NITS brightness, making it easier to view the images and texts on screen in challenging conditions.

    Screen on Honor X9b

What’s more important is that the screen comes with a 5-fold eye protection technology. This tech combines 1920Hz PWM dimming and hardware-level low-blue light display features. With these two, the Honor X9b ensures a comfortable viewing experience even in low light conditions.

    Eye Protection Features

Besides, the display of the X9b features Dynamic Dimming, which alleviates eye fatigue by simulating the dynamic changes in natural light. There’s Circadian Night Display mode too. It adjusts the screen color temperature to match the melatonin secretion patterns. As a result, you sleep better even after using the phone before bedtime.

    Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop Display Tech on Honor X9b

To enhance durability, the Honor X9b incorporates 360-degree whole-device protection. This Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop Display tech offers an all-round drop resistance for the screen. And it’s not just the screen. There are multiple reinforcements on the frame and internal components.

    Gizchina News of the week

In addition, the Honor X9b features a brand-new cushioning material. It features micron-sized pores, which can absorb up to 1.2 times the impact of a drop. This eventually made the phone get a five-star overall drop-resistant certification from SSG Switzerland.

Honor has also put the other core components of the X9b to the test. For example, the fingerprint button and power button have gone through a rigorous test. Both of them survived 200,000 times of activation with flying colors. Also, the phone has a maximum load rating of 70 kg.

    Dependable Battery Life

Under the hood, the Honor X9b comes with a large 5800mAh battery. It can offer up to 3 days of runtime, 19 hours of video playback, and 12 hours of runtime when playing online games.

    Battery Life of Honor X9b

Another interesting thing about the battery of the X9b is that it prioritizes longevity. Honor promised above 80% battery health level after 1000 charging and discharging cycles. This means you don’t need to worry about getting a battery repair anytime soon after getting the device.

    Enhanced Performance of Honor X9b

The Honor X9b features the 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset. It’s an upper mid-range SoC that can deliver smooth performance in gaming and other resource-intensive tasks. Honor has paired this chipset with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. And with the RAM Turbo feature, you can extend the RAM to 20GB. But do note that the extra RAM is virtual RAM.

    Main Highlights

With MagicOS 7.2, the Honor X9b gets better software optimization, which eventually enhances the performance even further.

    Camera Configuration

There’s a robust camera configuration on the back of the Honor X9b. It consists of a 108MP main camera, which can take well-detailed shots and offer 3x lossless zoom. This primary camera is accompanied by a 5MP Ultra-Wide-Angle sensor and a 2MP Macro lens. And on the front, the device features a 16MP selfie shooter.

  • Upcoming Android Repair Mode Will Keep Your Data Safe During Repairs

Regardless of how good your Android phone is, there’s always a small chance that you might need to take it for repairs at some point. For example, your phone may require a battery replacement in the long run. And with the upcoming Android repair mode, these repair sessions will be less stressful than now.

The thing is, your phone is home to a lot of personal data. That includes your banking info, contacts, personal information, and many other sensitive data. During repairs, technicians may need to boot up your phone and check whether the phone is working as it should. In this stage, your personal data becomes vulnerable. That’s basically what the Android repair mode will be addressing.

More About the Upcoming Repair Mode on Android

One of the things that you can do to safeguard your personal data during repairs is to wipe your data. But this process requires you to back up your data beforehand and then recover the backed-up data after the repair. In other words, at the current stage, sending Android phones for repair can be really stressful.

But with repair mode, you can send your Android phone for repair without wiping the data on it. The mode will ensure that service technicians can’t access your personal data and apps during the repair process. But they will have the freedom to check the system’s functionality for diagnostics.

As Mishaal Rahman explains, the Android repair mode utilizes the Dynamic System Updates mechanism. This lets the Android smartphones boot up into a Generic System Image (GSI). In other words, the mode will simulate a fresh instance of the OS, safeguarding your personal data.

Entering and exiting the Android repair mode will require your lock screen password. That means the technicians won’t be able to access your data even after the phone reboots. And if all of this sounds similar, yes, it’s basically Maintenance Mode found in One UI of Samsung phones. But the repair mode isn’t exclusive to Samsung phones.

  • A compilation of the quirky and hilarious things we’ve seen in Street Fighter 6 so far

Street Fighter 6 was released over four months ago. Since then, we’ve had Rashid and A.K.I. join the roster as DLC fighters, minor patches pushed, a number of tournaments take place, and plenty of online clips surface.

As such, there have been numerous moments throughout Street Fighter 6’s lifespan so far that have caused fans to either laugh hysterically or give a bewildered look in confusion. In a recent video upload, Xuses has documented some of these situations that are sure to get a reaction out of anybody.

Whether you love them or hate them, throw loops are currently a big part of Street Fighter 6’s meta. Of course, this means that there will be a few clips featuring opponents getting thrown over and over again until their health bars have been depleted.

When Rashid was first released, a weird glitch allowed Rashid to extend the duration of his Ysaar Level 2 Super — giant tornado projectile — almost indefinitely. Though Capcom has since patched that phenomenon, it created some outrageous clips for the time that it was still present in the game.

There are also a number of clips featuring perfect rounds seen in the video. Who could forget the time that iDom achieved a perfect against a JP user 57 seconds into the round?

Check it all out in the video below:
