  • China Chip Makers See Growth, Thanks to the U.S

As the U.S. imposes stricter regulations on China’s semiconductor sector, Chinese chip manufacturing equipment makers are experiencing increased demand. Orders from Chinese companies have surged in recent months.

Domestic equipment manufacturers like Naura (002371.SZ) and etching equipment maker AMEC are now securing a larger share of contracts from Chinese foundries. This is because chip manufacturers are hastening the transition from foreign-made equipment to domestically produced alternatives, according to research findings.

Recent data shows a significant shift in the Chinese semiconductor industry. From January to August 2023, Chinese manufacturers managed to secure 47.25% of machinery equipment tenders from Chinese foundries, according to an analysis of 182 tenders by Huatai Securities.

The trend continued to strengthen from July to August 2023, with Chinese suppliers winning 62% of tenders compared to only 36.3% from March to April. This shift represents a turning point in the industry, acknowledging that the US restrictions on technology imports are unlikely to ease.

Also, self-reliance, as advocated by Chinese President Xi Jinping, is the way forward.

The US Government Aims to Review Restriction of Chips to China Each Year China Chips

The Biden administration recently broadened its efforts to curb China’s chip industry with the aim of preventing Beijing from gaining access to advanced U.S. technologies. The United States claims that these chips could enhance Chinese military capabilities. These measures are planned to be reviewed and updated on an annual basis.

In response to these restrictions, China’s foreign ministry issued a strong protest. It has asserted that the new chip restrictions violated the principles of a market economy and fair competition. This reflects ongoing tensions and disagreements between the U.S. and China in the technology and semiconductor sector.

“Before the sanctions, top Chinese foundries would use a small number of machines from Chinese suppliers. But they would really only experiment with new equipment when they would add new capacity,” one source which is close to the matter told Reuters.

He also added that, “Now, foundries are testing out Chinese-made equipment for every foreign machine they own. If they find that it meets their needs, they replace all of them. They want as few foreign machines as possible.”

Companies like AMEC and Naura were getting more orders from China’s big factories, SMIC and Hua Hong Semiconductor. However, these companies didn’t reply to requests for comments.

Chinese Equipment Makers are Making Great Sales China Chips

In the first half of 2023, the revenue from the equipment made by China’s top 10 equipment manufacturers grew by 39%. This growth percentage translates to an amount of $2.2 billion in sales. They were doing well, but they were also stockpiling chip equipment from other countries. However, these options are closing down because these countries are also making rules to limit selling to China.

Chinese companies are getting better at making equipment for processes like etching and cleansing. This allows them to compete with big American companies like Applied Materials Inc and Lam Research Corp.

Some Chinese machines are even used in making advanced chips, as good as those using 5 nanometer technology. They are used to clean the surface of silicon wafers.

A semiconductor analyst in China said the quality of equipment made in China is improving faster than he thought. He believes they are two years ahead of what he originally thought.

China Still Struggles to Make High-end Lithography Equipment China Chips

But there are still some challenges. Making equipment for lithography is really hard, and China hasn’t been able to get the machines they need to make the most advanced chips. The U.S. has even stopped some less advanced lithography systems from going to China.

A report from Huatai Securities said that only one Chinese company won a bid for lithography equipment out of many tries in the first eight months of 2023.

China’s imports of lithography machines and parts for those machines from the Netherlands went up by 81.2% from January to August, reaching $3.3 billion. Dutch based company, ASML is a big maker of these machines, and they said that almost half of their revenue in the third quarter of 2023 came from selling to China.

But the problem with lithography hasn’t stopped Chinese companies from making progress. Analysts think Huawei and SMIC were able to make an advanced chip for the Mate 60 Pro phone by adjusting machines they bought from ASML.

However, experts say that local companies in China still can’t make all the equipment they need, especially the most advanced kind. They are focusing on making equipment for older technology. Making advanced semiconductor equipment in China is still a long way off.

  • Ed Boon says this cosplayer’s Mileena is ‘Outstanding’ we certainly agree after seeing more of what Melh Alvarenga had to show

Out of all my years of doing cosplay, I’m not sure just how elated I would be to receive praise from the original creator, but I’d probably be over the moon if I had this happen.

Argentinian cosplayer and costume designer Melh Alvarenga recently got some big compliments for her Mortal Kombat 1 Mileena from series Co-creator Ed Boon, and her other great works show she’s far from just a one-hit wonder.

Alvarenga is right at home at an outdoor MK event in her cosplay, and from a technical standpoint, Boon seems absolutely correct in calling her work “outstanding.”

It’s really cool to see this rather complex design come together in real life with all the little belts, armor pieces and accessories that all appear to be pretty much hand-crafted too.

The only negative is she’s only seemingly posted the one photo of her Mileena online so far when we’d love to see a closer and more detailed look.

Luckily, Alvarenga seems to be quite invested in some other characters that Boon has also worked intimately with before with DC and Injustice.

Harley Quinn looks like her big specialty that she’s been honing and updating for a few years now and is super on point.

She doesn’t just stick to one design either, as Alvarenga has done her original Batman: The Animated Series jester outfit up to her more modern Suicide Squad and Injustice incarnations plus everything in between and sometimes a little mix of everything.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that she’s got a pretty badass rendition of Wonder Woman too.

If you enjoyed these, there’s plenty more DC related cosplay to be found on Melh Alvarenga’s Twitter and Instagram pages, and hopefully we’ll be seeing much more of her Mileena soon too.

  • One Piece Straw Hats’ New Bounties After the Wano Arc

The Straw Hat Pirates played a vital role in claiming back the lands of the Wano Country with their valiant display. Every Straw Hat faced a larger threat than themselves and was able to emerge as the winner. This included taking out the leaders of the Beasts Pirates and Big Mom Pirates, as well as the emperors of these crews. Well, this is no small feat indeed; it is a mammoth one that increased the bounty of all Straw Hat Pirate members massively after the Wano Arc. So, let’s not waste any more time and see the bounty on the heads of our dear pirates.

Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers about the Straw Hat Pirates and each of their bounty after the Wano Country arc. We suggest you watch the anime or read the manga first to avoid ruining the intended experience.

    10. Chopper

    Chopper in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 100 Berries
    • New Bounty: 1,000 Berries

Among the Straw Hats, the only crew member who got the tiniest bounty upgrade is Chopper. He is now confirmed to have a bounty of 1000 berries, an increase of a whopping 900 berries (JK) over his previous bounty. Now, don’t let his measly bounty lead you to believe he lacks an amazing skillset.

Chopper has turned into an incredible medic and developed powerful battle prowess with his devil fruit powers that helped greatly in the raid of Onigashima. The World Government still hasn’t discovered the great abilities Chopper has, hence, the lowest bounty. But one day, this situation will totally turn around, and we will see him climb the bounty charts.

    9. Nami

    Nami in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 66,000,000 Berries
    • New Bounty: 366,000,000 Berries

Up next, we have Nami, who has got a massive upgrade over her existing bounty. She had a bounty of 66 million berries earlier. But now, Nami has a bounty of 366 million berries in One Piece. This is all because of how she showcased her battle skills with Zeus and Climatact against Ulti, one of the six strongest Shinuchi of the Beasts Pirates.

Ulti had a bounty of 400 million berries and Nami knocked her out during the raid, leading to an increase in her bounty. She continues to dominate the series as the most popular female One Piece character.

    8. Brook

    Brook in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 83,000,000 Berries
    • New Bounty: 383,000,000 Berries

Soul King Brook also made his way into the “300 million berries bounty” gang after the raid on Onigashima. Previously, he had a bounty slightly higher than Nami, at 83 million berries. Now, after his courageous display at Onigashima, he has a bounty of 383 million berries.

One might point out that he didn’t defeat any big members during the raid. But, mind you, he actively helped out other Straw Hats such as Sanji, Robin, and others, and cleared a group of opponents in his way. Soul King continues to impress us after being the MVP of the Whole Cake Island arc (one of the best arcs in One Piece) and now with a superb show in Wano.

    7. Franky

    Franky in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 94,000,000 Berries
    • New Bounty: 394,000,000 Berries

Franky is the next Straw Hats member to get a major jump in his bounty. After defeating Sasaki, who was one of the best Tobiroppo of the Beast Pirates and had a bounty of 472 million berries, Franky inched closer to the 400 million berries club.

Sasaki wasn’t an easy opponent, and it took a great effort from Franky to crush him by using his battleship named “General Franky.” After defeating Sasaki, Franky also greatly helped in saving Nami from Big Mom, and more importantly, identified Zoro and rescued him as well. He indeed put on a brave show against Big Mom to prove this crew will reach new heights in the future.

    6. Usopp

    Usopp in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 200,000,000 Berries
    • New Bounty: 500,000,000 Berries

To be honest, Usopp didn’t play a crucial role in the raid on Onigashima when compared to his fellow crewmates. But in return, he also got a hefty new bounty on his head, now touching the half-billion berries mark. God Usopp’s stellar performance in Dressrosa arc earned him the 200 million bounty, and post-Wano, he has a bounty of 500 million berries.

This sniper of the Straw Hats has luck on his side, similar to Buggy. While he saved a few people during this arc, we need him to step up his game, which is expected to happen in the upcoming Elbaf arc in the manga. However, if you’re someone who only follows the anime, you’re in for a treat as the Egghead arc anime adaptation is expected to start soon.

    5. Nico Robin

Nico Robin in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 130,000,000 Berries
    • New Bounty: 930,000,000 Berries

Nico Robin aka “The Devil Child” started with a bounty of 79 million berries when she was just 8 years old. Now, she continues to prove how vital she is to the Straw Hats in terms of knowledge and her fighting skills. After having a bounty of 130 million berries prior to the Wano arc, she has now joined the ranks of those with the highest bounties in One Piece, thanks to a bump to 930 million berries.

And she deserved it righteously for defeating Black Maria, one of the strongest Tobiroppo of the Beasts Pirates. She pushed her paramecia devil fruit Hana Hana no Mi to the next level and grew more powerful than ever.

    4. Vinsmoke Sanji

    Sanji in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 330,000,000
    • New Bounty: 1,032,000,000 Berries

Now, even before we move to the top three, we are entering into the 1 billion bounty club with Vinsmoke Sanji. The cook and professional flirt of the Straw Hats put on a phenomenal show with his innate Germa powers that granted him new abilities. With his innate technique getting awakened, he got a superhuman physique, invulnerable exoskeleton, faster healing powers, and more.

All of this greatly improved his overall powers and enabled him to defeat Queen, one of the all-stars of the Beasts Pirates (worth 1.32 billion berries). Furthermore, Sanji also saved Monosuke and Zoro numerous times. This feat greatly increased his bounty from just 330 million berries to 1.032 billion berries. The monster trio of Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji has now started to have monstrous bounties for their heads, don’t they?

    3. Jinbe

    Jinbe in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 438,000,000 Berries
    • New Bounty: 1,100,000,000 Berries

Jinbe is the latest member to join the Straw Hat Pirates, coming onboard just before the raid commenced. He gave his word to Luffy at the end of the WCI arc and joined the crew at the perfect moment. Throughout the raid, he helped out the samurais, and fellow straw hats, and in the end, fought against a challenging opponent named Who’s Who (worth 546 Million berries).

Rightfully, he came out on top with his impressive fishman karate techniques and Haki in One Piece. This led to the rise of Jinbe’s bounty to 1.1 billion berries; he also saved the day by teaming up with Raizo to put an end to the never-ending fires in Onigashima.

    2. Roronoa Zoro

    Zoro in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 320,000,000 Berries
    • New Bounty: 1,111,000,000 Berries

The right-hand man of Luffy, Zoro stepped up his game at the right moment during the Wano Country raid. He is undoubtedly one of the MVPs of this arc as he defeated some major adversaries and secured the cure for the Oni Virus. A major highlight of Zoro’s appearance in this arc is that he not only joined the worst generation of pirates to fight against Big Mom and Kaido but also went on to damage both and save his captain numerous times.

Later, Zoro fought against King, one of the all-stars and first mate of Kaido (posting a bounty of 1.39 billion berries) and emerged as the champion by becoming the King of Hell. As a result, Zoro now holds a bounty of 1.111 billion berries, which is just the start for the first mate of the future King of Pirates.

    1. Monkey D. Luffy

    Luffy in wano country arc
    • Previous Bounty: 1,500,000,000 Berries
    • Current New Bounty: 3,000,000,000 Berries

And now, for the most awaited moment, our future Pirate King, Luffy doubled his previous bounty of 1.5 million berries to a total of 3 billion berries post-Wano. He joined the ranks of Shanks, Buggy, and others in the top ten, having one of the highest bounties of all time.

Luffy is now marching towards earning the highest-ever bounty in One Piece. This is an unimaginable feat he achieved after defeating the strongest Kaido using his brand-new Gear 5 technique. Alongside Zoro, Luffy undeniably stood out in this arc (do watch One Piece episode 1073) and restored the Wano country back to its former glory.

And that’s everything you need to know about the newest bounties of the Straw Hat Pirates after the Wano Country arc. The new bounties continue to impress fans and make them excited for the new adventures and dangers awaiting in the future arcs. What do you think about these new bounties? Is it worthy for the new emperor (Yonko) level crew? Let us know in the comments below.

  • LordKnight unveils new tier list for Guilty Gear Strive Season 3

BC|LordKnight has released a new video detailing his latest tier list for Season 3 of Guilty Gear Strive. At the beginning of the video, LordKnight states that Guilty Gear Strive Season 3 is less balanced compared to the previous version of the game.

Similar to Supernoon’s tier list, LordKnight has also made it a point to rank Johnny, the newest character added to Guilty Gear Strive via DLC. Though LordKnight usually wouldn’t rank a character that’s so new, but he mentions that a ton of people have been playing Johnny since the fighter was released.

Unfortunately for Johnny fans, LordKnight ranks the combatant in the lowest tier category consisting of combatants that are either too normal or are power crept. LordKnight notes that Johnny’s big problem is with his neutral as he is unable to dash block.

Regardless, LordKnight believes that the developers will eventually give Johnny his dash block option in a future patch. As such, he may rise in the tiers with that one change alone.

The other characters that are rated as being among the worst competitively are Zato-1, Potemkin, Testament, and Bedman. Meanwhile, Nagoriyuki, Happy Chaos, Sol Badguy, Ramlethal, and Chip are in the highest tier category.

As indicated in the video, none of the tier categories are intended to be ordered. Check it all out below:

  • A Guide to Securing Your Bank Accounts

In the present day, individuals with malicious intent employ a wide range of advanced techniques to gain unauthorized access to financial data, ultimately compromising their victims’ finances. Our objective is to examine the top five methods that are frequently experienced by users and to explore the most effective measures for safeguarding our bank accounts against these potential threats.

Guarding Your Finances: A Comprehensive Guide to Protecting Your Bank Accounts from Cyber Threats

    Phishing/Smishing: The Prevalent Deceptive Technique

Phishing is a method that involves sending deceptive emails that mimic trusted sources, such as your bank, utility providers, the Post Office, or the Tax Agency. Smishing operates in a similar way but through mobile messages.

In both scenarios, these messages contain links that direct you to counterfeit websites resembling legitimate ones. Upon entering these sites, you’ll be prompted to input your personal and banking information, inadvertently handing it over to fraudsters.

To shield yourself from phishing, it is crucial to consistently verify both the sender’s email address and the URL included in the email, ensuring it displays the official domain and commences with ‘ In general, it’s advisable to refrain from clicking on links or downloading attachments from unsolicited messages.

Skimming and Card Cloning: A Financial Threat

Skimming is a method employed by cybercriminals, involving the installation of physical devices on ATMs or point-of-sale terminals to illicitly gather bank card data from unsuspecting victims. With this acquired information, fraudsters can then proceed to create clones of our cards.

To safeguard yourself from skimming, it’s essential to adopt a few precautions. Whenever you use an ATM or a point-of-sale terminal, diligently inspect the machine for any unusual devices or irregularities. Additionally, it’s a prudent practice to shield the keypad when entering your PIN to thwart hidden cameras from capturing it.

    Banking Trojans: A Malware Threat

Banking Trojans fall within the realm of malicious software, crafted with the intention of infiltrating your personal computer or mobile device. They work by scanning files and surreptitiously extracting sensitive banking and financial information. Furthermore, certain banking Trojans have the capability to record the keystrokes you input (as explained below in the context of keyloggers), capture screenshots, and redirect your financial transactions to accounts controlled by cybercriminals.

To shield yourself from these banking Trojans, it is imperative to take specific precautions. Firstly, ensure that your operating system, web browser, and antivirus software are consistently kept up to date, as this fortifies your defenses against malware. Additionally, exercise caution and refrain from downloading files from sources that are unfamiliar or untrustworthy.

Man-in-the-Middle Attacks: A Covert Communication Interception

Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attacks encompass a diverse array of sophisticated strategies in which cybercriminals clandestinely insert themselves between two parties engaged in communication, all without the knowledge of the communicating parties. One example is when they intercept and disrupt the interaction between your device and your bank’s website.

    Gizchina News of the week

In a MitM scenario, the attacker can seize sensitive data like your banking credentials or even manipulate transaction data to divert funds into an account under their control.

Preventing MitM attacks involves employing secure connections, specifically HTTPS, which encrypts the communication between your web browser and the website. This encryption significantly complicates cybercriminals’ efforts to intercept information.

However, HTTPS is not foolproof, especially when you’re connected to an insecure Internet access point. It’s advisable to refrain from using public Wi-Fi networks for banking activities or any transactions involving confidential data. If there’s no alternative, consider using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for added security.

    Keyloggers: Silent Keyboard Spies

Keyloggers belong to the category of malware that, once they infiltrate your system (often through malicious downloads, phishing links, or the insertion of infected USBs), quietly record every keystroke you make on your keyboard. The captured information is then surreptitiously transmitted to cybercriminals. This insidious technique can amass confidential data ranging from passwords to bank account numbers and PINs.

To safeguard against keyloggers, similar precautions should be observed as with banking Trojans. Maintaining up-to-date antivirus software is paramount, and it’s vital to steer clear of downloading files from unfamiliar or dubious sources. Another safeguard involves using a virtual keyboard for inputting highly sensitive information. As keyloggers are unable to intercept data entered through an on-screen keyboard.

Other types of attacks that hackers use to sneak into your bank account

Cybercriminals employ various tactics to gain unauthorized access to bank accounts. Here are a few other types of attacks they use:

    • Pharming: In a pharming attack, attackers compromise your device or network to redirect your web traffic to fraudulent websites that mimic legitimate banking sites. This can trick you into entering your login credentials and personal information.
    • Credential Stuffing: Cybercriminals use previously stolen usernames and passwords to gain unauthorized access to your bank accounts. Exploiting the fact that many people reuse the same credentials across multiple services.
    • Social Engineering: Attackers use psychological manipulation techniques to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information. This can include impersonating bank officials, friends, or family members through email, phone calls, or social media.

    • Malware-Infected Emails: Cybercriminals send malicious emails containing attachments or links that, when clicked, can install malware on your device. This malware can capture your banking credentials and other sensitive data.
    • Brute Force Attacks: In a brute force attack, cybercriminals repeatedly guess your login credentials until they find the correct combination. This method is more effective when people use weak or easily guessable passwords.
    • ATM Skimming: Criminals place skimming devices on ATMs that capture card information when you insert your card. These devices are usually hidden and hard to detect.
    • Vishing: Similar to phishing but conducted over the phone, vishing involves fraudulent calls from attackers who impersonate legitimate organizations, including banks, to extract sensitive information.
    • Trojan Horse Attacks: Cybercriminals disguise malicious software as legitimate applications, tricking you into installing them on your device. Once installed, these Trojans can steal your banking information.
    • SIM Card Swapping: Attackers convince your mobile carrier to transfer your phone number to a new SIM card in their possession. This can allow them to bypass two-factor authentication measures tied to your phone.
    • Cross-Site Scripting (XSS): Cybercriminals inject malicious scripts into legitimate websites. Potentially capturing your login credentials and other personal data when you visit these compromised sites.

To protect your bank accounts, it’s crucial to stay vigilant, use strong and unique passwords, enable two-factor authentication, regularly update your software and applications, and be cautious about unsolicited communications and suspicious links or attachments.

  • Switch successor to have a smoother transition compared to previous consoles as hinted by Nintendo of America President

We’ve been hearing plenty of rumors suggesting that Nintendo is preparing for the Nintendo Switch successor’s launch sometime in 2024. One particular insider recently claimed that Nintendo is specifically targeting September 24, 2024 as a release date for the Switch successor.

Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, recently spoke with Inverse regarding a variety of subjects related to Nintendo. With all the rumors circulating, the topic about the Nintendo Switch successor inevitably came up during the conversation.

“There have been reports that Nintendo showed off a successor to the Switch behind closed doors during Gamescom,” begun Inverse.

Indeed, there have been plenty of rumors that suggest that Nintendo had the Switch successor hidden at Gamecom 2023 to show off to third parties. Supposedly, an advance port of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Matrix Awakens tech demo were playable on this new console for the purpose of demonstrating Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology, suggesting that the follow up console will be dramatically improved compared to its predecessor.

As one might’ve expected, Doug Bowser wasn’t willing to go into details about this part of the question. “Well, first I can’t comment — or I won’t comment, I should say — on the rumors that are out there,” stated Bowser in response.

However, the rest of Inverse’s question was generalized enough for Bowser to comment on. This led to an interesting answer on the part of Bowser.

“Creating the Nintendo Account will allow us to communicate with our players if and when we make a transition to a new platform, to help ease that process or transition.” — Doug Bowser

“As we have discussed, the Switch has had a long lifespan and a huge install base. How — when you consider the idea of a successor to the Switch — do you think about helping those people who are on the console transfer to the next platform while reassuring them that the content and investment in the Switch will somehow transfer to its successor?” asked Inverse.

“One thing we’ve done with the Switch to help with that communication and transition is the formation of the Nintendo Account,” said Bowser. “In the past, every device we transitioned to had a whole new account system. Creating the Nintendo Account will allow us to communicate with our players if and when we make a transition to a new platform, to help ease that process or transition.”

Obviously Nintendo will eventually have to transition to a different platform to keep up with the current generation’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.

“Our goal is to minimize the dip you typically see in the last year of one cycle and the beginning of another,” continued Bowser. “I can’t speak to the possible features of a new platform, but the Nintendo Account is a strong basis for having that communication as we make the transition.”

We’re starting to see a trend as Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said something similar back in June about wanting Nintendo accounts to carry over from the Switch.

“As for the transition from Nintendo Switch to the next generation machine, we want to do as much as possible in order to smoothly transition our customers, while utilizing the Nintendo Account,” said Furukawa back then.

This seems to be lining up with another one of the rumors that we’ve recently been hearing about the Nintendo Switch successor in that it will have backwards compatibility. In other words, games purchased on a user’s Nintendo Account on the Switch may end up being playable on the new console that has yet to be officially announced.

Fans have been eager for news about the Switch successor and have already begun analyzing the smallest of details for clues. Needless to say, it’s been pointed out recently that Nintendo recently made private their first Nintendo Switch announcement trailer.

This seemingly innocuous action is said to have precedent. Nintendo apparently has a history of doing this leading up to an announcement that’s similar enough to something in a video of theirs that was just made private. For example, the Switch Lite trailer went private shortly before the announcement of the Switch OLED.

Going into the holidays, this could just be Nintendo preparing for the Super Mario Wonder themed Switch or something similar. Of course, some fans are beginning to speculate that the Switch successor announcement could be coming sooner than expected.

Ultimately, we’ll have to wait for official word from Nintendo to know what’s going on with regards to news about the new console.

  • How to Change Siri’s Default Messaging App in iOS 17

Nothing can beat the convenience of using Siri to send a message to your contacts. Rather than typing large paragraphs, you can quickly dictate your message and send it using Siri. However, Siri would send that message using the Messages app. If you want to use a third-party app, you’ll have to say that in your command. Well, that’s a thing of the past now. One of the most exciting iOS 17 features is the ability to change the app that Siri should use to send your message after dictating the text. Interesting, right? Let’s see how it’s done.

How to change Siri’s default messaging app

It’s pretty easy to change the messaging app that you wish to send a message using Siri. It’s worth mentioning that you cannot set WhatsApp, Telegram, or any other app as your default messaging app for Siri. While there is no direct method, Siri will remember to choose the selected app as the default option for the next time.

Rather, you can change the messaging app for Siri after dictating or typing a message. Before you get too excited, make sure to be very quick as you have to stay on top of the 5-second countdown that’s visually shown through the send button. Once that button is filled, your message will be sent via the Messages app. Here are the complete steps to do it:

Note: The below steps will work only on iPhones running the latest iOS 17.

    • Invoke Siri. With iOS 17, you can change ‘Hey Siri’ to ‘Siri’ to invoke Apple’s virtual assistant.
    • Now, say “Send Message” and read out the name of the contact to whom you want to send the message when prompted by Siri.
    • Next, dictate the message you wish to send to your contact.
How to make Siri use WhatsApp instead of Messages app
    • You’ll see a message confirmation at the top. From there, tap on the Messages app icon.
    • Select the messaging app using which you wish to send the text by clicking on the Messages icon. Here, you will see the list of third-party messaging apps and more.
    • Lastly, tap on the Send button.
Send a WhatsApp message using Siri on iPhone

Once you’ve done this, Siri will notify you that the message has been sent. You can double-check this by heading to the app that you chose.

How to remove suggested messaging apps

You can use Siri to send messages using third-party messaging app. That said, sometimes you might see and choose an app that doesn’t support direct messaging. While Siri will let you know this by showing a blank screen with no information, you can also choose to remove a suggested app. This will help keep the list uncluttered and avoid any confusion while sending a message using Siri. Here is how to do it:

    • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    • Tap on Siri & Search and scroll down until you see a list of apps.
    • Now, tap on the app you wish to exclude from Siri suggestions.
    • Turn off the toggle for Use with Ask Siri.
How to remove an app from Siri recommendations

Going forward, you will still be able to open that app using Siri but it won’t send your information to Apple to process your requests. As a result, you won’t see those apps in suggestions while sending a message.

With iOS 17, you have the liberty to change the app you want to send messages using Siri. Unarguably, iMessage offers a seamless experience on iPhones, and new features like Check-In, Catch Up, and Swipe to Reply have been added to enhance the user experience. That said, it’s great to have a handy feature in iOS 17 that lets you send text messages using your favorite app. What’s your take on this new feature? Don’t forget to drop your views in the comments below.

  • Counterpoint Research Report: Huawei Mate 60 Series Outsold iPhone 15 in China

The launch of the Huawei Mate 60 series was a success. And if you’ve missed our previous reports, it’s mostly because of the Kirin 9000S chipset. It’s Huawei’s first chipset in years. Besides making a technological push, Huawei is also slowly regaining the market in China.

According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research, Huawei sold 1.6 million Mate 60 phones after the launch. Counterpoint Research has also said that the series has sold more than the iPhone 15 series in the Chinese market.

What’s more interesting is that the Huawei Mate 60 series launched weeks before the iPhone 15 series. But the Mate phones sold more than during the initial launch period when Apple officially introduced the iPhone 15 in the region.

What Does Huawei’s Success with the Mate 60 Series Mean? Can It Keep Up?

Counterpoint Research couldn’t give an exact breakdown of the Mate 60 models that were sold. But it did note that Huawei shipped 1.6 million units in just six weeks. That’s a very large number of units shipped in a relatively small amount of time.

    iPhone 15 Pro

    Gizchina News of the week

Previously, analysts have estimated a shipment drop of 4.5% in the first 17 days for the iPhone 15 when compared to the iPhone 14. And while the shipments of Apple fell, the popularity of Huawei Mate 60 phones rose. Now, a 4.5% drop may not seem much. But this small percentage equates to millions of units.

China is of paramount importance for Apple. It’s the region that Apple ships the highest number of iPhones by volume. But with Huawei’s resurgence with the Mate 60 series, it seems things are about to become difficult for the Cupertino giant.

    Huawei Kirin 9000S

What’s more important is Huawei has already ramped up Kirin production for sufficient supplies. But again, SMIC, the foundry behind the Huawei Kirin 9000S, doesn’t have access to advanced EUV machines at the moment. This could limit the company from making advancements in the Huawei processors. So, only time will tell if Huawei can maintain its success in the Chinese market or not.
