Mortal Kombat 1’s been out for just over a month, and it’s already getting some significant changes.
NetherRealm Studios just released the latest update for MK1 that hits the Cyrax Kameo with the nerf hammer, adds a new stage variation for Halloween and brings back a popular feature missing at launch.
Although the patch notes are not out yet, Rooflemonger and others have pointed out that Cyrax’s horizontal spin assist now takes the entire Kameo meter to perform.

This is a pretty huge change for the undisputed best Kameo in the game to eat up double the resources on a move that was crazy good in combos and blockstrings.
That means there’s probably more balance changes as well, but we’ll have to wait for the full breakdown to get the scope of what’s truly different.
On top of Cyrax hurting, NRS also added a new Halloween stage variation to the Cage Mansion, which will likely be avaialble for a limited time for free.
Thankfully, they finally added back the ability to pin moves on the screen as well for better learning and practice options.

Nikkei Research recently conducted teardowns of all four models in the iPhone 15 series, shedding light on their production costs. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, in particular, stands out with an estimated component cost of $558, marking a 12% increase compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. To put this into perspective, the starting price for the iPhone 15 Pro Max in the US is $1,199 before taxes. It’s important to note that these cost estimates pertain to the base storage configurations. Which are 256GB for the 15 Pro Max and 128GB for the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, and 15 Pro.
iPhone 15 Pro Max Component Costs Surge
As anticipated, most components inside the iPhone 15 Pro Max have seen price hikes, except for the NAND flash storage. Notable contributors to the increased cost include the new titanium frame, the tetraprism 5x zoom camera, and the powerful A17 Pro chipset. The upgraded 5x telephoto module, for instance, now comes in at $30. Marking a substantial 280% increase compared to the 3x telephoto module found in the 14 Pro Max.
The titanium frame in the 15 Pro Max carries an estimated cost of $50. Showing a 43% uptick from the stainless steel frame featured in the previous model. The A17 Pro chipset, known for its enhanced performance, comes with a price tag of $130. While the display components cost approximately $115, reflecting increases of 27% and 10%, respectively.
Turning our attention to the rest of the iPhone 15 lineup, Nikkei‘s estimates reveal that the 15 Pro has a component cost of $523, which represents an 8% markup from the 14 Pro. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Plus and the baseline iPhone 15 have component costs of $442 and $423, respectively. Indicating price hikes of 10% and 16% for their components.

Prerequisites to turn a regular photo into a portrait mode photo
First, you need to understand that you cannot turn every photo into a Portrait mode photo. Your iPhone needs to record the depth information to apply the portrait effect. Unfortunately, your iPhone doesn’t do this for every photo. An iPhone 15 model will automatically capture the depth information when it detects a person, dog, or cat in the frame. The phone also captures this information when you tap the frame to focus on a subject.
In addition to this, you need to know the following:
The depth information is saved only on photos taken on an iPhone 15 model. So, you can turn a photo captured on iPhone 15 into a portrait mode photo on any iPhone. However, the reverse is not true. It means you cannot convert a photo taken on any other iPhone into a portrait one using your iPhone 15.
You can use the next-gen Portrait feature with your iPhone’s main, telephoto, or front camera.
This feature will also work with Live Photos turned on. However, your phone will only save the depth information for the key photo of your Live Photos burst. Therefore, you can apply Portrait mode to a live photo, but only the main photo will have the blurred background effect.
How to turn a normal photo into a Portrait on iPhone 15
The ‘next-gen Portrait mode’ is an iPhone 15-exclusive feature that lets you apply a soft and artful bokeh effect to the background and puts all the attention on the subject after you’ve taken a photo. So, if you’ve got an iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, or 15 Pro Max, you can easily turn a normal photo into a Portrait after you’ve captured it. Here’s how you do it:
Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
Then, open a suitable photo that you want to turn into portrait.
Tap on Portrait from the top-left corner. You’ll see that Portrait Off is selected by default.
Finally, tap on Portrait. A blurred background will be instantly applied to your photo.
How to edit Portrait effects in photos
After you’ve turned a regular picture into a portrait, you can also adjust the level of the background blur and intensity of the lighting effects. Here’s how to do it.
Tap on Edit from the top-right corner. This will bring up the editing window.
You can use the Depth Control slider to increase or decrease the strength of the background blur.
If there’s more than one subject in the photo, you can tap on the other subject to change your focus. The yellow autofocus box will then shift to the new subject.
You can also apply filters or crop the photo using the editing options available at the bottom. That’s not all. There’s an Adjust option that lets you tweak the brightness, control, shadow, highlights, and other elements.
Once you’re happy with the edits, tap on Done from the top-right corner.
If you wish to undo all portrait effects and revert to the original photo, simply open that photo again. Then, tap on Edit and hit the Revert button.
How to disable Auto Portrait Capture on iPhone 15
An iPhone 15 model automatically captures the depth information of a photo where a person, dog, or cat is prominent in the frame. While it’s a handy feature that lets you convert a regular photo into a portrait one after shooting, it takes up extra storage space to store the depth information. If you don’t want your iPhone to capture the depth information of a photo, you can choose to disable it in Camera settings. Here are the steps to do it:
Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap on Camera.
Here, turn off the toggle for Portraits in Photo Mode.
You can always choose to take the photo in a Portrait mode. For this, open the Camera app and tap on Portrait.
Going forward, if you didn’t switch to Portrait mode, remember you can always turn a normal photo into a Portrait mode photo on an iPhone 15 model. Bear in mind that the next-gen Portrait mode is only available on iPhone 15 models. No other iPhones, even the ones running iOS 17 can utilize this feature.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re using an AMD or Nvidia GPU. You can play with a simple setting called Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling to improve GPU performance. This simple feature is designed to lower the load on your CPU while you’re running resource-intensive tasks.
When you enable it, the high-priority tasks get allocated to the GPU, and the CPU takes care of the rest. In other words, both the GPU and CPU take part while you’re trying to do something that demands a lot of resources. And as things get shared, you get improved performance. Wondering how to toggle this option? Here are the steps:
Press the start button and search for Graphics Settings.
Look for the Change default graphics settings button with the Graphics Settings tab.
Toggle the Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling on.
That said, this feature works best if you’re running a relatively modern GPU. And it’s better to leave the settings turned off if your system has an old GPU. If you notice worse performance, revert the settings.
Consider Trying Upscaling Technologies to Get Better GPU Performance
Trying to improve GPU performance during gaming? In that case, you would want to check out the upscaling technologies. And there’s one for AMD, Intel, and Nvidia GPUs. For AMD, it’s called FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). And for Nvidia, it’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), while Intel has Xe Super Sampling (XeSS).
At the core, these upscaling technologies are designed to reduce the load from GPU. They upscale the relatively low-quality images, which eventually improves the GPU performance. When you enable these techs, your GPU renders the games at a relatively low resolution, while the upscaling tech enhances the image to make them look high resolution.

Tekken 8 has definitely stepped up its particle effect game by moving up to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but if you think they’re overwhelming, you may want to see this.
Some players of the Tekken 8 closed beta test have shared footage of a pretty funny glitch that basically turns every particle into an explosion.
As can be seen in the clips, every strike, ground bounce and pretty much everything else turns the glow / lighting on particles up to like 12/10 and can make things pretty incomprehensible.
It pretty much becomes impossible to see anything on the screen when Rage activates or when the KO happens, but at least at that point, the round is already over.
According to the Tekken subreddit, this bug appears to be caused under certain situations after a wall / balcony break on the hangar stage though we don’t really know the exact cause — and can no longer test it.

Since this was just a beta test for a game that’s still three months away from releasing, this will almost assuredly be fixed before then, but it’s still interesting to see these hiccups happen during development.

Apple’s Mac lineup has been due for an upgrade, and we have exciting details from the renowned analyst Mark Gurman suggesting that new MacBooks and iMacs are coming out soon. We recently got a new Apple Pencil with a USB-C port instead of new iPads. And now, it seems like Apple will launch a 24-inch iMac refresh and new MacBooks this month. So, let’s look at what the latest reports say about the upcoming Mac devices.
New MacBook and M3 iMac are Launching Soon!
Gurman suggests that Apple is “planning a Mac-centered product launch,” and it could happen as soon as “around the end of this month.” Given that the currently available 24-inch iMac with the M1 chipset came out back in 2021, this product has been a long due to an upgrade.
According to the Bloomberg report, current stocks of Apple iMacs & MacBook Pros are in short supply. This suggests a planned upgrade is closing in. Gurman states that Apple previously aimed to release a “larger, pro-focused iMac” soon after the 24-inch iMac launched.
Furthermore, popular analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently claimed the new Apple M3-equipped MacBooks won’t launch until next year. So, it is important to keep our expectations in check for the launch of the new MacBook Pros with the M3 chip. We may only see minor upgrades to the MacBooks and not a processor upgrade afterall.
Gurman’s report states that even though new MacBook Pros came out back in January, another update to these laptops this year “would be unusual, but not inconceivable.” The report suggests that new MacBook Pros are launching soon. But, the new M3 MacBook Air will only come out next year.
For the new iMac, the biggest change is expected to be an upgrade to the processor. This particular iMac is the only model left in Apple’s lineup that hasn’t been upgraded to the M-series chip. Apple’s M2 triumphs the M1 chip, with a transistor count increase of ~4 billion. The newer processors bring 18% faster CPU performance & up to 35% faster GPU performance.
The M2-based 24-inch iMac launch seems probable to happen at the end of this month. However, there are mixed responses from top analysts concerning the launch date of the new M3-based MacBook Pros. All there is left to do is wait to see if Apple announces an October event for new Macs.

On October 20, 2023, European Interpol announced that it had taken down the Ragnar Locker ransomware group in a coordinated international law enforcement action. The operation was conducted by Eurojust and Europol in conjunction with law enforcement officers from France, the United States, and Japan. The group’s Tor negotiation and data leak sites were taken down and replaced with a notice stating that the websites had been seized.
Arrest of key members
As part of the operation, a “key target” allegedly involved with the Ragnar Locker ransomware group was arrested in Paris on October 18. The report on Europa, an official news outlet of the EU, claims that the developer of the ransomware was also arrested. The arrests were made possible through international cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
The group is understood to have launched multiple attacks on critical infrastructure around the world. This includes a cyberattack against Capcom in 2020. From October 16th to 20th, criminal police conducted search operations in the Czech Republic, Spain, and Latvia.
The “main leader” of the malicious ransomware was arrested in Paris, France, on October 16. His home in the Czech Republic was also raided. Over the next few days, five suspects were questioned in Spain and Latvia. At the end of the week of action, the alleged ringleaders of the Ragnar Group developers were brought before the examining magistrate of the Paris Justice Court.
The ransomware infrastructure was also seized in the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden. Also, the associated data leak website on Tor was shut down in Sweden.
Impact on the group
While the takedown of the group’s infrastructure is a huge blow, it may not be enough to completely dismantle the group. The group may be able to quickly set up other servers to replace those that were taken down. Also, the takedown of the group’s infrastructure could cause problems for organizations that have been impacted by a ransomware attack and have lost a method to negotiate with the group.
Ragnar Locker has been active since December 2019. It targets Windows operating system devices and usually uses exposed services such as the Remote Desktop Protocol to gain access to the system. The Ragnar Locker group employs a dual extortion strategy. It demands payment for decryption tools and a demand that the stolen sensitive data not be made public.
Previous attacks
Ragnar Locker has been tied to various attacks in the past. This includes attacks on the Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak and TAP Air Portugal’s systems. The group is known for focusing on the energy sector.

The group sternly warns all its victims not to contact law enforcement and threatens to publish all stolen data if that happens. In fact, victims are also warned not to seek help on its dark web “Wall of Shame” leak site.

The Head of Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre, Edvardas Šileris, said:
This investigation shows that once again international cooperation is the key to taking ransomware groups down. Prevention and security are improving, however ransomware operators continue to innovate and find new victims. Europol will play its role in supporting EU Member States as they target these groups, and each case is helping us improve our modes of investigation and our understanding of these groups. I hope this round of arrests sends a strong message to ransomware operators who think they can continue their attacks without consequence.
Previous arrests
In October 2021, officers from France and the US FBI, along with experts from Europol and INTERPOL, were dispatched to Ukraine. They conducted a joint probe with the Ukrainian National Police. The probe resulted in the arrest of two senior Ragnar Locker operators.
Since then, the probe has gone on, leading to the arrests and disruptions this week. Europol supported the probe from the very start, bringing together all of the nations concerned to develop a joint approach.
Its cybercrime experts conducted 15 coordination meetings and two week-long sprints to prepare for the current steps. This is in addition to offering analytical, malware, forensic, and crypto-tracing assistance. Europol formed a virtual command post last week to enable smooth cooperation among all entities involved.
The takedown of the Ragnar Locker ransomware group highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating cybercrime. The operation involved law enforcement officials from multiple countries working together to dismantle the group’s infrastructure and arrest key members.

FGC Translated has uploaded a video that translates Mago’s responses to the opponent’s very suspicious reactions. For example, they were almost always able to counter a throw attempt with a dive kick special after jumping.
Mago laughed and commented that they didn’t even need to use the Overdrive dive kick as they were that confident that it would punish the whiff throw’s recovery. Needless to say, this is not something a human should be able to consistently do.
