  • Sega vs. Capcom fan project looks to be making impressive progress in new showcase

Hopefully we’ll get to play it someday

Outside the realm of Super Smash Bros. and Project X Zone, we haven’t had many opportunities to see Capcom and Sega characters go head to head, but there’s plenty of fans out there of both developers who would like to see that changed.

One such person has been attempting to make that an unofficial reality with madxruler recently showing off the progress being made in their Sega vs. Capcom: The Next Level fan project.

Although it’s not exactly a bombastic trailer, the new update footage for Sega vs. Capcom is looking pretty promising with showing off some new menus and UI as well as a cool training stage out in space.

The new video focuses on quite a few nice looking attacks from Sonic the Hedgehog comboing off on Mega Man X, as well as other animations for Morrigan, Alien vs. Predator’s Linn Kurosawa, Streets of Rage’s Axel, Skies of Arcadia’s Vyse, Virtua Fighter’s Akira, and Rival Schools’ Batsu.

First teased back in early 2021, Sega vs. Capcom is being built in the Ikemen-Go open source fighting game engine and has been making steady progress the past few years including the use of some fairly impressive original sprites / models.

As far as we can tell right now, there’s no real way for the public to try out the fan fighting game, but hopefully we’ll get to someday in the near future.

Capcom themselves do have an unannounced major project coming in the next few months, but we kinda doubt it’d be a dream fighter like this.

  • What Is RISC-V and Why It Will Be the next Big Thing for Wearables?

One of the major components inside a smartphone or any device, is the System on a Chip, or as we say in general terms, a “Processor” or a CPU, in the case of personal computers. From Intel’s first-ever processor, the 4004, to one of the most popular processors of its time, the Intel 8006, there have been rapid developments in instruction set architectures including both the CISC and RISC instruction sets used by Intel/AMD and ARM, respectively. And now, there’s a new kid in town (Well, RISC-V is quite old and was founded in 2010. It’s still relatively new compared to ARM, though). Here’s everything you need to know about RISC-V and why it’s so important for not just Android and WearOS but Qualcomm and many other investors in the same.

    What is RISC-V?

RISC-V, pronounced “risk five,” is an Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) like ARM and RISC, but unlike them, it’s completely license-free and open-source. For starters, think of instruction set architecture as a medium that connects hardware and software. It defines and dictates the way both hardware and software work to produce results, i.e., the result a user wants. It could be a press of a button in a UI or passing complex instructions while playing a game.

RISC-V ISA is flexible and more efficient, and one of the main reasons why companies are invested in it is because it’s open-source and doesn’t require them to pay licensing fees.

    RISC-V What is it?

Now, given the name “RISC-V” you may think of it as a sort of successor to RISC and no, that’s not true. RISC is proprietary and is used by ARM to hand out instructions to companies such as Samsung, Qualcomm, and Apple. They get to use those “instructions” to make their own SoCs. RISC-V, on the other hand, involves no middlemen. It’s completely free, and open-source, which means companies can take the instructions without paying huge licensing fees like they would to ARM, and start building a processor on the RISC-V ISA.

Since the ISA is open-source, like with any open-source software, RISC-V International is always looking for ways to improve the code and make it more efficient. Although, one of the things worth mentioning is that, RISC-V is license-free but companies can take it and make it closed-source since they can do that. It’s more or less a similar situation to that of Android where AOSP is completely free (although Google asks OEMs to pay a licensing fee for Google Apps) but companies build on AOSP and don’t reveal the source code of their UIs.

    RISC-V vs RISC vs CISC

Both RISC and RISC-V are Reduced Instruction Set Computer which is found in devices with smaller SoCs like smartphones, but the same has also been expanded to computers (M1 Macs, Qualcomm’s X Elite Platform). CISC stands for Complex Instruction Set Computer and is used by processor manufacturers such as Intel and AMD.

The main difference between RISC-V, RISC, and CISC is, that RISC-V and RISC are Reduced Instruction Sets with the former being completely free and open-source and the latter being proprietary, whereas CISC is where the ISA completes complex instructions to solve an activity. RISC is where the ISA completes a large number of small instructions to complete a task.

    RISC-V vs RISC vs CISC

An example of CISC is x86 and x86-64 from Intel and AMD. We’ll leave the explanation about their history for another article but all you need to know is, that x86 and x86-64 processors require more power, and aren’t as efficient as RISC ISA, but are quite powerful. Although the line between RISC and CISC has blurred in recent years, CISC is still more widely used in personal computers and for industry purposes than RISC; however, RISC is slowly getting there (Apple’s M1 processors anyone?).

Why RISC-V? What are the Advantages?

One of the obvious advantages of RISC-V for companies such as Google and Qualcomm is that it’s completely free and open-source so they don’t need to pay anything. Besides, here are a few advantages on the consumer side that will be beneficial to both consumers and manufacturers.

    • Increased security. Being open-source means security flaws can be addressed very quickly.
    • Improved software updates since the ISA is common across all manufacturers.
    • Better performance and efficiency from the SoCs thanks to the rapid development and improvements that come from being open-source.
    RISC V illustration

The other major reason why we need RISC-V is to address ARM’s monopoly and future licensing issues. You see, ARM has recently started bumping the prices of its licensing fee leaving manufacturers with no choice but to pay the same since there’s nothing else that they could jump to. Another event that sent shockwaves in the industry was when NVIDIA tried to acquire ARM. This made the industry giants question if NVIDIA would stop licensing the ARM ISA to others, which, considering it’s NVIDIA, was very much plausible. This made companies invest in the development of RISC-V and lead the next generation of connected platforms by giving it a significant boost monetarily and by kickstarting hardware development.

Another significant problem that RISC-V solves is related to trade barriers. If you work in Tech, you may have seen lots of news around the USA banning Huawei and then China doing the same, for whatever reasons. RISC-V is completely free, not just from the trade hurdles but also from the clutches of any country because it’s based in Switzerland.

How will RISC-V Benefit Google and Qualcomm?

Qualcomm to Release New Arm-Based Chipset to Compete with Apple's M-Series SoCs in 2023

Well, a lot of things. First up, Qualcomm would have to pay zero fees and will probably completely switch to RISC-V in the near future, across all its products for smartphones, IoT, and general connected tech. In recent events, Qualcomm and Google will be collaborating to make RISC-V-based processors for Google’s wearables (Pixel Watch and Fitbit) and hopefully for Pixels down the line (Get rid of Tensor Google, please!). We believe that the processors will first show up in Google’s Fitbit range.

    Pixel Watch 2 battery

Earlier this week, Google posted an update for Android on RISC-V and how the giant has been working to bring its WearOS and other platforms on RISC-V. The video in the post included Android booting up and running on a RISC-V processor. While AOSP (Android Open Source Project) isn’t fully optimized yet, Google claims that emulators will be made available for public use by 2024.

Given the advantages of RISC-V, Google can push more updates (Although 7 years on the Pixel 8 already seems like an overkill, but is great nonetheless), and improve the overall performance and battery life of its wearables. Some of the initial RISC-V vs RISC test results look promising, but RISC-V still clearly has a long way to go.

1 – Turn On Gaming Mode

First things first. Yeah, Windows 11 provides a decent mode that enhances gaming by its own. Microsoft is pretty aware of the love PC users have for gaming. This is why Game Pass is so popular even on PCs. With the better optimization in mind, the company developed the Game Mode. This is a setting that automatically manages system resources for better performance when playing.

To Turn On the Game Mode Follow These Steps:

    • Press The Start Button on Your Keyboard and Type Game
    • Click the Game Mode Settings Once its Shows Up
    • Click the button to turn on Game mode.

    2 – Disable Windows Notifications

In the recent releases, Microsoft added the notifications feature on Windows. This allow users to be aware of any new message that comes, new alerts, and etc. It works just like it does on a regular smartphone. However, when you’re playing games full screen it can break the immersion.

Thankfully, Windows has a setting that allows the user to disable notifications at specific times or when certain things are happening.

To access the settings follow these steps:

    • Press The Windows Start Button on Your PC or Keyboard and Type Focus Assist
    • In the Focus Settings Click on Notifications – “Alerts from apps and system, do not disturb”
    • Find the setting “turn on do not disturb automatically”
    • Tick “When playing a game”

Alternatively, you can select specific times of day for the do-not-disturb mode to turn on. This works if you know you’re always gaming in the evening for example. Just set the time you’re regularly playing games and enjoy a seamless experience without notifications to break up the immersion.

    3 – Turn On Hardware-Accelerated GPU scheduling

Hardware-Accelerated GPU scheduling is a new feature that allows your machine to optimize performance and reduce latency. If you have the right hardware ( a recent graphics card, for example) and are running Windows 10 or 11 then you can easily turn this setting on, much like Game Mode:

    • Press the Start Button and search for Graphics Settings
    • Then click to turn on Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling
    • Scroll down and view the settings for “graphics performance preference”
    • From this menu, you can choose the app to set your preference. For Nvidia, this is the Nvidia Control Panel. You can select this as a desktop app or a Microsoft Store app via the dropdown.
    • Click on the app, click options and select high-performance
    • Repeat for any game where you want maximum performance.

4 – Adjust Settings for the Best Performance

Windows focus in the best possible appearance for its UI. Obviously, with the GPU handling these tasks, these visual effects can have a negative impact on gaming performance. So, you can try to prioritize performance instead of appearance on Windows.

    To do this:

    • Press the Windows start button on your PC or keyboard and type appearance and performance
    • Click on “Adjust the performance and appearance of Windows” when it appears
    • Look for the setting that says “adjust for the best performance”
    • Select that and click apply
    • On the advanced tab click to check that best performance is set for programs and not background tasks

5 – Turn Off the Enhanced Pointer Precision

Microsoft developed a feature that aims to improve the experience with Mouses. However, it can become an issue for gamers, especially those who bought high-end mouses with multiple DPI settings. You can turn off the pointer precision to tweak it straight from your Mouse.

    • Press Windows Start Button on your PC or Keyboard and type “mouse pointer”
    • Click on “Change the mouse pointer display or speed”
    • Under the Setting Market “Motion” untick the option to “Enhance Pointer Precision”.
    • Click Apply.

Again, if you have an advanced gaming mouse, chances are it also has a proprietary software. Modern Gaming mouses have high polling rate options. You can select whatever is the highest – 1,000 Hz, 4,000 Hz, or 8,000 Hz.

6 – Keep Your Drivers Updated

If you want to get the best performance, it’s important to not only ensure that Windows is updated regularly, but that your graphics cards are also updated. There are multiple parts of your hardware that need to be updated for the best performance in games. However, the Graphics Drivers are vital for a decent gaming experience. If you have a NVIDIA, make sure to check if there are drivers available for update. If you’re a Radeon RX user, then head up to AMD to check out for driver updates. Some new releases tend to require new drivers, so it’s important to be always tracking.

    Gizchina News of the week

7 – Nvidia users, keep Nvidia G-Sync Enabled

If you have a compatible monitor a modern graphics card, then you can turn on G-Sync. It ensures that your monitor’s refresh rate matches the frames per second your graphics card is putting out for the game you’re playing. Turn on G-Sync on your monitor and within Windows settings and this will prevent screen tearing and ensure a smooth gaming experience. You can also adjust the in-game settings to match your monitor’s refresh rate and limiting the maximum FPS to the high end of your refresh rate. It can give satisfactory results.

8 – Set your monitor refresh rate

Windows won’t always put the maximum refresh rate your monitor supports. If you have a gaming monitor with high refresh rate, and a capable hardware, make sure the OS is operating at the intended refresh rate. Otherwise, the monitor can default the settings to just 60 Hz. Follow these steps to select your maximum refresh rate:

    • Right-click on your desktop and click Display Settings
    • Scroll down until you see “Advanced Display Settings”.
    • Scroll down to refresh rate and click the dropdown. From there, select your monitor’s maximum refresh rate.

If you don’t see the setting you’re expecting, then the chances are you’re using the wrong cable. Some display will require you to use a DisplayPort cable while other will require the new HDMI 2.1 stwandard.

    9 – Adjust Windows Start-up Settings

Windows has a recurring issue with start-up processes and apps. Depending on the apps that are booting up along with Windows, the OS boot up times can be impacted. This particular tweak is valid for multiple scenarios, but if you want to play games quickly after booting up Windows make sure to remove unwanted apps that are booting alongside Windows.

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to launch Task Manager
    • Look for the Startup Tab and Click that
    • Search Through the list of Apps and Look for Anything that you Don’t Use Regularly
    • Right-Click on the Offending apps and click disable

In Windows 11, it’s possible to access these settings by clicking the start button and searching for Startup apps. Click that system setting an you can then go through and turn apps on and off.

    10. Use Ethernet Cable Rather than Wi-Fi

With the rise of new standards like Wi-Fi 6e, Wi-Fi 7, the wireless networks are getting faster and more stable. However, they’re still not comparable to using a high-quality ethernet cable directly from your router to your gaming PC. If you’re playing competitive games, it’s a good idea to have the cable connected directly to your PC. Those who have ultra-fast home broadband and can pay to invest in a capable cable, should opt for Cat-8 ethernet cables. These can transfer data faster and make the most of your speeds while also offering a solid connection that won’t drop out.

How To Make Your Gaming PC Faster

Apart from the software tweaks, you need to also be aware of the hardware you’re using to play games. AAA games are becoming more and more demanding, and you need to make sure you has the hardware to play the most demanding games without issues. These tips above will greatly enhance the experience, but there are also other things you can do on the hardware part.

    Invest in a good GPU

When playing games, the GPU is always at the center of everything. Investing on modern graphics cards is a good idea. Chances are that with a two, or even three-year old GPU from NVIDIA or AMD you will still be able to play current games (except for Alan Wake 2). However, the newer GPUs tend to include newer technologies that can be game-changing. There are also some value-for-money GPUs that will provide you a decent experience for less. Make sure to evaluate your conditions to find you the best options.

Make sure your Thermal Paste and Cooling Setup are updated

Games are very demanding, and can easily heat up your hardware if the cooling system or the thermal paste are not up to the date. Make sure your thermal paste is fresh and doing its work without issues. Also, invest on good coolers to keep up the setup running smoothly.

The CPU is also a vital part

It does not matter if you have the latest GPU like a NVIDIA RTX 3090 or even a RTX 4090. You need to make sure your CPU is capable of working alongside your GPU. Putting a powerful GPU alongside a old CPU will result in bootlenecks. The GPU will never extract the best because your CPU will limit it. Make sure your hardware is well aligned with compatible parts.

Extra – Get your Gaming Peripherals

To improve the experience even further, make sure to invest on decent gaming hardware. You can play games with regular mouses and keyboards. However, there are some peripherals that will bring unique perks for games. You can also invest in immersive sound experience to enjoy the advanced audio we see in modern games. The peripherals also play an important role if you’re investing in the best experience in games.

    Can My Computer Run It?

Last but not least, before proceeding into the gaming world. You need to make sure your PC is capable of handling the games you intend to play. Sometimes, you will go through all the possible software settings, but they won’t help because your hardware can’t run the game. Of Course, with modern hardware, you should be able to play current and past games without any issues. But if you’re not for the latest, you need to consider what you needs to play before getting your hardware.

Before you spend your cash in a particular game, make sure it is capable of running that particular game. There are various ways to do this. You can search for the game’s title and check the minimum and recommended specs requirements for games. These are often available on game stores like Steam. If you know your specs, you can compare things to get a idea if your PC will be capable of running the games.

The System Requirement’s Lab Tool can also do this job for you. The tool will scan your system and then compare it with the specs of the game you want to play. It will give you some advice before purchase.

It is worth noting, that you can also enjoy games regardless of your hardware thanks to cloud gaming services like GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud.

Conclusion – PC Gaming Can Get better

As you can see in this article, there are many things you can do to optimize your PC for gaming. It starts with building the hardware and getting all the needed pieces together. After that, you can start applying some tweaks provided by Operating Systems like Windows 11. Make sure to follow these tips to get the best of your setup.

The user then taps on the file to install it, at which point the user is prompted to trust the app source. Once the source has been trusted, the app installation process continues.

Sometimes you may want to sideload an app. However, there are also some malicious apps that are trying to deceive users. Some malicious apps are hidden and if you don’t pay much attention you will install them only to find later that there is something wrong your device. There are some malicious apps that keep pushing ads on your screen, and others that get their way to your phone just to track your data. Samsung’s new feature aims to block these apps, making your navigation more secure.

    Gizchina News of the week

The only thing you need to know is that the Auto Blocker needs to be specifically enabled. The feature will also enforce app security checks, detecting potential malware and preventing harmful commands. It will also safeguard against harmful installs over USB – specially important if you’re using a public USB cable for charging your phone. The Auto Blocker also updates the Message Guard – The service that mitigates Zero Click attacks or direct image messages with malicious code.

The Auto Blocker is part of the One UI 6, and to enable it you just need to search for it in Settings.

How to Enable Auto Blocker on One UI 6

Once you’ve updated your smartphone to One UI 6 and want to experience the new Auto Blocker feature. The process to enable it is simple. Open the Settings App and click on the search bar.

    • Type Auto Blocker, and the option will quickly pop out on your screen.
    • Click on the Toggle to Enable Auto Blocker.

The Messaging App Protection and Block Software Installs over USB are two optional settings. You can easily disable them if you don’t want Auto Blocker to go beyond its basic principle. However, depending on your usage, we recommend to keep these safety features enabled.

Talking about the new feature, Dr. Seungwon Shin, EVP & Head of Security Team, at Mobile eXperience Business, states:

“At Samsung we constantly strive to keep our users safe from security attacks. With the introduction of Auto Blocker users can continue to enjoy the benefits of our open ecosystem, knowing that their mobile experience is secured”. We always seek to empower our users to choose for themselves what best suits their needs – rather than us deciding on their behalf. Auto Blocker is no exception to that.”

    Conclusion

The New Auto Blocker shows Samsung’s effort into making One UI safer for its users. It can protect its users from having their smartphones invaded by malicious attackers. If you don’t plan to sideload applications, we strongly recommend you to keep this feature enabled.

  • OnePlus Nord N30 SE Coming as a Rebadged Nord 30

OnePlus fans, and the general smartphone fans, are all eagerly waiting for the release of the OnePlus 12. The new flagship promises a powerful hardware, improved cameras and much more. While we don’t get this phone, OnePlus is working on a new mid-range phone for the Nord series. In fact, this device is not exactly “new”, but has a “new” name. The company is adopting the strategy of rebranding its own releases, and will re-launch the OnePlus Nord 30 as OnePlus Nord N30 SE.

The OnePlus Nord N30 SE got its certification from the TDRA in the UAE. The certification confirms the phone’s name and give us its model number as well: CPH2605. At first glance, there are no issues, but upon further inspection we notice the familiarity. That’s the same model number for the OnePlus Nord N30 launched in North America, and the Nord CE 3 Lite. So, as we can conclude, the OnePlus Nord N30 SE is another variant of the same smartphone. The Spider-Man meme fits nicely here.

Three OnePlus Smartphones With Different Names.

    About TRDA certification:

All telecommunications apparatus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which connect directly to a public telecommunications network and/or which have an intentional radio wave transmitter are subject to the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) type approval requirements. Once a phone gets this certification, it is ready and allowed to be launched in the region.

    OnePlus Nord N30 SE

The same OnePlus Nord 30 under a new disguise

The Nord 30 and the Nord CE 3 Lite are identical devices sold under different names in different markets. It looks like two wasn’t enough for OnePlus, and Three won’t be too much. The company will add a third name to the roster under the OnePlus Nord N30 SE moniker. Right now, we can confirm this variant is coming to the UAE. The TRDA certification only covers this particular region. Right now, there is no confirmation whether this will be a UAE exclusive or not. If OnePlus plans to release it in more countries, we will find out soon.

    Gizchina News of the week

Unfortunately, this release make the the things confusing. Rather than launching the same device in different markets, the company is opting for different brandings. What is the point of calling it “SE” or “CE”. Of course, this is something that other brands tend to do. Vivo is a good example which recently launched the Vivo T2 in Russia, and it happens to be very similar to the Vivo V27e. The only conclusion we have is that a new name makes the release more interesting. Users already know what the Nord 30 has, but a Nord N30 SE will feel like something brand new, and will attract more attention.

    OnePlus Nord 30 SE specifications

We expect OnePlus to clarify things soon, although this phone’s release shouldn’t be the buzziest. The OnePlus Nord N30 SE like its siblings, will bring a 6.72-inch Screen with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels of resolution. Under the hood, the phone will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of Expandable Storage.

There will also be a triple-camera system with a 108 MP main camera, a 2 MP macro, and a 2 MP depth sensor. A 16 MP selfie shooter will handle the selfies and video calls. Finally, we have a 5,000 mAh battery keeping the lights on. The phone will run Android 13 with OxygenOS 13 running atop. Details like pricing and release date are not available yet.

    Conclusion

As we’ve learned through this article, OnePlus will soon introduce a new handset in the UAE dubbed OnePlus Nord N30 SE. Considering its model number, the phone is the same as the OnePlus Nord N30 (US) and the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite (India). The exact reasons behind this re-release are unclear, but it seems like OnePlus is just trying to generate some hype for a new smartphone in a UAE. This should be a small release without much pomp.

For now, the company’s real focus is on the upcoming OnePlus 12 set to impress soon with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and other appealing specifications.
