There are times when you just want to avoid a message on Instagram but the ‘seen‘ status can put you in a dilemma. To avoid this moral obligation, Instagram has now introduced the ability to turn off read receipts so that you can avoid replying to messages with ease.

Now Turn off Read Receipts on Instagram DMs

Adam Mosseri, via his broadcast channel, made the announcement that Instagram is testing the ability to switch off read receipts so that there’s no ‘seen‘ status at all. So, avoiding weird or uncomfortable conversations can be convenient.

This setting can also safeguard your privacy, so, avoiding a message may not necessarily be the reason for turning read receipts off. The option to hide the read receipts was introduced a long time ago on WhatsApp, which doesn’t turn the double ticks blue when enabled. When on, the ticks will turn blue when someone reads the message. The option to disable read receipts will be available under the Privacy and Safety settings and comes in addition to the Vanish mode with which the seen messages disappear.

It’s weird that Instagram got hold of the feature just now but at least it did consider it. Another feature, which Instagram could consider is the ability to archive chats, which can be a good way of decluttering the DM section so that people can focus on the ones that are important. I hope this becomes an official feature soon!

To recall, Instagram recently introduced the ability to add song lyrics to Reels, making interacting with them much easier. There’s still no word on when the option to turn off read receipts will be available as a release window is still not known but we will keep you posted on the updates. Microsoft is expanding its support for Surface PCs. The company is prioritizing devices shipped on or after January 1, 2021. In a recent update to its support policy, the tech giant is now committed to providing a minimum of six years of driver and firmware updates for these devices. This change comes as good news for Surface users around the world. This is because it extends the lifespan of their hardware and ensures access to the latest features and security improvements. Previously, Microsoft had set a minimum of four years for driver and firmware updates from the initial release of these devices.

Google Introduces “Small Business” Tag

Starting in the US, Google merchants can now designate themselves as “small businesses.” This label makes it easier for shoppers to identify local mom-and-pop-style stores. When users search for products from these merchants, they’ll notice a “small business” tag in the results. In Google Maps, these stores will be clearly marked as small businesses.

To help maintain the credibility of this attribute, Google will automatically apply it to certain listings based on factors such as web traffic, the number of store locations, and the range of products offered. Merchants retain the option to remove these attributes by adjusting their settings in Merchant Center or Business Profile.

The knowledge panel in Google Search, providing details about a business’s location and workforce size, is expanding to offer more shopping-related information. This includes features like reviews, shipping and return policies, customer service details, and promoted deals. In addition, there will be a snapshot of business information already shared in Merchant Center accounts.

These improvements will roll out this month to merchants in the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, and Brazil. Initially, the knowledge panel’s deals section will be visible to desktop users in the US only.

Marvel seems to have taken its lesson from the theatrical release of Deadpool in 2016, since 16 February 2024 has been set as the official release date for the Madame Web movie.

Deadpool became a huge hit partially because of its release in Valentine’s Week with almost no competition. Madame Web chose the same approach and considering the uniqueness of the character and her relation with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man universe, it seems Madame Web can turn out to be a hit movie too.

Madame Web Plot

As far as we are aware, Madame Web revolves around the origin story of this superhero. According to her comic book origin, Cassandra Webb, aka Madame Web, was born blind and also suffers from a condition called myasthenia gravis, a neuromuscular, autoimmune disease. She made her first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 and is now all set to make her first theatrical appearance.

While undergoing treatment, her mutation kicks in and she develops psychic powers and spider-like abilities. But, her disease sticks with her and she is connected to a life support system that looks like a spiderweb. In her first comic book appearance, she helped Spider-Man to find a girl who had been kidnapped.

However, this movie is set long back before the birth of Peter Parker so it’s difficult to say if we will get to see Spider-Man in action in the Madame Web movie. However, if it turns out to be a flashback kind of movie, there’s a possibility that we might get to see Spider-Man. So, the chances of that happening are pretty low.

Well, to whatever extent this movie turns out, let’s hope they don’t make the same mistakes that Mobius did and present us with another movie worth remembering. Till then, all we can do is wait for the movie’s official release on February 16, 2024, and hope for the best.

2. Sydney Sweeny as Julia Carpenter

If you are unaware of this character, Julia Carpenter is a pretty well-known character among Spider-Man comic fans. She is the second Spider-Woman who later took up the mantle of the second Arachne. She is relevant in this movie as Julia is the one to whom Madame Web transferred her powers when she was about to die turning her into the new Madame Web.

In this movie, Sydney Sweeny is said to be playing Julia Carpenter and might portray Arachne who later on turns into Madame Web.

3. Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin

The next cast member of Madame Web is Celeste O’Connor, who is speculated to be playing the role of Mattie Franklin. She is the niece of J. Jonah Jameson and the third character to be called Spider-Woman in the Spider-Man comic verse.

She is the daughter of Jerry Franklin who is rumored to be played by Mike Epps. It would be interesting to see what names they go by in the movie since Julia Carpenter is initially Spider-Woman too. So, there’s a possibility that Carpenter will be seen as Arachne in Madame Web.

4. Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon

Isabela Merced is rumored to be playing Anya Corazon in Madame Web who is one of the much younger spider people in this universe. She was granted her powers not by a spider bite but by magic.

Anya saw a man being attacked by a strange group of assailants. She interfered in the fight and took several injuries to save him. This man was Miguel Legar, a sorcerer for the Spider society, who saw her as having the heart of a hero and took her back to his base gradually granting her superpowers after which she took up the mantle of Spider-Girl.

5. Emma Roberts as Mary Parker

Now mind you, this is Mary Parker being played by Emma Roberts, not May Parker. This is evident enough to show us how far back the story of Madame Web is set in the Spider-Man universe.

Now we don’t know who will be playing Richard Parker, but since this movie is set in the Sony universe, the same one as “The Amazing Spiderman,” we might get to see Campbell Scott as Richard Parker.

6. Adam Scott as Ben Parker

Adam Scott is reported to be playing Ben Parker in this movie, adding him to the list of “Uncle Ben(s)” in the Spider-Man universe. But, he is quite obviously going to be a much younger Ben Parker, giving us an idea of how early in the timeline this movie is set.

We don’t know yet who is going to play his wife, May Parker, but we will let you know as soon as we get our hands on some information.

7. Tahar Rahim as an Alternate Spider-Man

Certain pictures of Tahar Rahim in a spandex suit have surfaced online (via Cosmic Circus) which look awfully similar to the Spider-Man suit. It is rumored among the fanbase that he might be playing an alternative version of Spider-Man who existed even before Peter Parker came into the picture.

Although we are not sure which version of Spider-Man it is, it’s still going to be quite exciting to see where this goes. So, these are all the cast members of the Madame Web movie we know about right now.
