  • Omni-Man may deal different amounts of damage depending if he’s on PC or consoles in Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 players are having a good bit of fun with the utter brute that is Omni-Man in the game, but he also seems to have some wonky stuff going on with him.

In another strange case, it appears as though the Invincible bad dad may actually dish out different amounts of damage depending on if he’s being played on PC or console.

Player MagicTea recently shared a clip that compared the exact same combo on PC and PlayStation 5 with a noticeable increase on the Steam side.

Going into Omni-Man’s db3,1 slam into launch string, he is shown doing 348.15 damage on PC and only 332.96 damage on PS5.

If you slow it down, the initial grab into toss does the same 90 health across both systems, but things start to go off starting with the first follow up punch showing 132.50 on PC and and 130 on PS5 followed by 155.45 and 151.60 on the next hit respectively.

Without further testing, it’s difficult to discern what exactly is going on here, but on the face of this, it looks like his combo has different scaling values.

If true, that’s not great for a modern fighting game release, which you’d hope would be as consistent as possible across all available platforms for a multitude of reasons.

Considering the Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition runs on the PS5, for example, more competitively minded players may not even be able to accurately practice on PC if the potential bug applies to combos beyond just this one.

In some follow-up posts, MagicTea responded to commenters providing ideas as to what could explain this like hitting the strings at slightly different times for different damage, but setting the parameters the same produced the discrepancy after multiple alleged attempts.

This unfortunately could also make the prospect of cross-platform play between PS5 and Xbox with the PC even less likely than before, which NetherRealm Studios still hasn’t confirmed either way.

The damage scaling difference was discovered around the same time as another apparent glitch for Omni-Man where he can forcibly move the opponent by doing nothing but back dashing in the air.

NetherRealm hasn’t commented these alleged issues following their first DLC character’s early access release, but it’s probably safe to assume some fixes are coming in the near future.

  • Little Mac performs a devastating aerial combo… then remembers why he ‘ain’t no air fighter’

Little Mac is widely considered to be one of the worst characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Though he has amazing ground moves and grounded attributes, he’s completely crippled by his extremely lackluster aerials and recovery options.

Still, it’s funny to think that Little Mac technically has the fastest aerial in the game with his neutral aerial (starts up in 2 frames). While its hitbox and power leave much to be desired, some players like to use this particular aerial to gimp recoveries thanks to its semi-spike properties.

Takeu_Man recently posted an amusing clip featuring a match between a Joker user and a Little Mac player. Things were looking bad for Little Mac in this match as both players were down to their last stocks. Additionally, Little Mac had more percent racked up while Arsene was active for Joker.

The Little Mac player opted to whiff punish Joker’s up smash with down tilt. This allowed him to follow up with a series of neutral aerials with momentum carrying both fighters off the stage.

Near the bottom, it looked as though Little Mac had won the match as the screen flashed red after Joker’s damage went from 68% to 70%. Unfortunately disaster struck for the Little Mac user.

We have to assume that Takeu_Man was the Little Mac user based on his Tweet. According to Google Translate, he said “I won’t do it again” in response to this event. As Doc Louis points out during Little Mac’s debut trailer for Super Smash Bros. 4, Little Mac “ain’t no air fighter” and this is the reason why.

  • Antony Starr finally confirms that he is NOT voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1

Omni-Man from the Invincible series recently joined Mortal Kombat 1’s roster as the first DLC character of the Kombat Pass. The release windows for the remaining Kombat Pack characters indicate that Quan Chi and Peacemaker will release sometime in winter 2023/2024, Ermac and Homelander in spring 2024, and finally Takeda Takahashi in summer 2024.

Needless to say, fans are excited about having a true showdown between Omni-Man and Homelander once the later joins Mortal Kombat 1’s roster. Considering that J.K. Simmons is voicing Omni-Man and John Cena will be voicing Peacemaker in Mortal Kombat 1, this means that Antony Starr will be voicing Homelander, right?

As highlighted by Uppercut Editions, Antony Starr over on Instagram was asked by a fan if he is voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1.

“Are you voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1?” asked vaguelyokay on Instagram. “Nope,” simply responded Antony Starr.

Of course, this actually isn’t the first time that Antony Starr was asked this question. However, rather than being asked if he’s voicing Homelander in the present tense, he was instead asked the same question in the future tense.

“Will you be voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1, Antony?” asked maxium_mishima on Instagram back in the middle of October. To that, Star responded by saying “mmmmmmm.”

From these exchanges, we can draw a few different hypotheses on what’s potentially going on here. Perhaps when Starr was asked this question, he was unsure at the time if he’d be able to voice Homelander, but is now able to confirm that he won’t be able to do that.

As noted before, the previous question was technically phrased differently than how it was the second time. Before, he was asked if he will be voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 in the future, whereas now he’s being asked if he’s currently voicing the character for this purpose.

More than likely, development on Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 hasn’t begun yet, or is only just in its infancy. There’s a small glimmer of hope that Starr is simply saying that he currently isn’t voicing Homelander for MK1. This statement to this particular version of the question may not necessarily exclude that he could be doing it in the future.

If we were to assume that Starr was under a contract to do voice work for MK1, then he probably wouldn’t state outright that he was involved just yet. In other words, Starr could simply be lying though this would be a lie designed to surprise fans later on rather than a malicious lie.

Ultimately, it would be odd to have J.K. Simmons voicing Omni-Man, but not Antony Starr for Homelander considering that Simmons is said to have a net worth of about 20 million dollars while Starr is said to have a net worth of 2 million dollars.

Regardless of speculation, this does appear to greatly lower the chances of Antony Starr being the voice of Homelander in MK1. For now, it would be best to take Starr at his word to avoid disappointment.

We’ll just have to wait until NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. are willing to divulge more information about Homelander in MK1 to find out who will actually be voicing the character.

  • Is Your PC Underperforming? Learn How to Detect and Resolve PC Bottlenecking Issues

If you’re planning to build a new PC or have been wanting to build one, you’ve probably come across the term “PC bottlenecking.” And you might already know that it’s not a good thing.

At the core, when your PC is bottlenecking, it means that the hardware is not getting used at its full potential. And while it may seem like a big issue, fixing PC bottlenecking problems doesn’t always require you to empty your wallet and build a whole new system.

    What Is a Bottleneck?

In terms of PCs, a bottleneck happens when one or more components are restricting the capabilities and performance of the others. When there’s a PC bottleneck, you tend to get anywhere from 50 to 70 percent of the performance that the system can actually provide.

But in most cases, it’s the CPU and the GPU that can cause a bottleneck on your PC. One could limit the other from offering all that it has to bring to the table. As a result, you don’t get the maximum performance out of the system.

    CPU and GPU of PC

Over time, PC gamers tend to upgrade different parts of their systems in different time frames. For example, most users opt for a new GPU when the existing one becomes too old to handle modern games. In such cases, if the system doesn’t have a capable CPU, the processor will be causing a bottleneck.

However, it’s definitely possible to face PC bottlenecking issues with a brand-new system. If you don’t pair the right parts together, regardless of how pricey the system is, you won’t get the most out of it. For example, pairing a high-end CPU with a high-end GPU is necessary.

Instead, if you pair a high-end GPU with a budget-centric CPU, you get a little over half, sometimes even less, than what the GPU can offer. And that basically causes PC bottlenecking. So, in short, the key to avoiding bottlenecks is balance.

How to Check If You’re Facing PC Bottlenecking Issue?

Don’t know if you’re facing PC bottlenecking? There’s no need to worry as these issues are easy to check. And you have multiple options to check it.

    Through a Bottleneck Calculator

The simplest way to check whether your PC is bottlenecking is to use a simple bottleneck calculator. You can use this online tool, which will ask you to enter the components your PC has. Once it analyzes the combination, it will give you suggestions on which component may be limiting the performance of the system.

    CPU of PC

However, this isn’t the perfect tool to use to see whether your PC is bottlenecking. It tends to give very generic recommendations and doesn’t consider the specifics of your PC.

By Monitoring the Performance of the PC With Nvidia GeForce Experience

You can check whether you have PC bottlenecking issues by closely monitoring the performance of the system. One of the best tools to use in this regard is Nvidia GeForce Experience. It offers metrics that show how much of your CPU and GPU are being used while you’re gaming.

    Gizchina News of the week

Nvidia Performance Monitoring for PC bottlenecking issues

If you see that one is being pushed to the max while the other is sitting pretty much idle, there’s a bottleneck. However, this tool will only work with systems that feature Nvidia GPU. If you don’t have an Nvidia graphics card, you would want to consider the alternative discussed below.

Monitor the Performance with MSI Afterburner

Regardless of your PC specs, you can monitor its performance with MSI Afterburner. It’s a free monitoring tool that lets you easily check whether there’s any PC bottlenecking. To check for bottlenecks with the tool, follow these steps:

    1. Launch the MSI Afterburner on the PC and click on the Settings option
    2. Head over to the Monitoring section
    3. Select your GPU and CPU under the Active hardware monitoring graphs
    4. Under the Hardware monitoring history, click on the Log history to file
    5. Press Apply

Then, with the MSI Afterburner running, load your favorite games and play for a while. I would recommend to play for at least an hour. Then, head over to the location where the tool saves the log files. It’s usually on “C:/Program Files (x86)/MSI Afterburner.”

    MSI Afterburner

There, you will find a file named HardwareMonitoring.hml. In this log, check whether there’s a huge performance difference in how much of the GPU and CPU is being utilized. This data will let you know if you are facing PC bottlenecking issues.

    GPU of PC

There’s nothing to worry about when there’s a small difference in performance. Also, it’s worth noting that some games are designed to be more CPU-intensive. So, do consider the games you are playing while checking for PC bottlenecking issues.

How Can You Face PC Bottlenecks?

If you notice a bottleneck, the only option is to upgrade the component that’s causing the issue. For example, if your PC is bottlenecking for CPU, you should get a better processor. Likewise, if the problem is for the GPU, you have to upgrade it.

    PC CPU and motherboard

On that note, you can upgrade your CPU without changing the motherboard and other components. You just need to look for a more capable processor within the same generation.

As some may have suspected, Reina appears to have some connection to the Mishima clan though the trailer doesn’t specifically state what that is.

She can fight with Mishima-style karate and uses the Electric Wind God Fist, but she’s not just a replacement for Heihachi.

The developers have also confirmed her moveset also contains Taido karate as well, which is shown with her fast kicks that resemble more of Lidia from Tekken 7 more than the rest of her presumed family.

She is first shown in a decorative chair in the new Secluded Training Ground stage that definitely does give off Heihachi vibes though that smirk of hers feels like Kazuya.

Nicknamed Purple Lightning, Reina’s purple and black design aesthetics seem to represent the two sides of her abilities between her quick mobility and kicks and then her powerful electric strikes.

Neither Jin nor Kazuya knows who she is, but she does refer to Jin as “senpai” which would imply that she is younger than him and have some potentially interesting implications.

Is she just like Lars, another secret love child of Heihachi’s that we’ve never seen or heard of up to this point?

Is she the contingency plan in case Kazuya defeated his father?

It is still probably the most likely explanation, but Reina says we’ll find out soon enough.

Reina rounds out Tekken 8’s sizable roster out the gate of 32 fighters following the recent reveals of Zafina, Lee, Alisa and Devil Jin followed by Victor Chevalier.

Alongside Azucena and Victor, Reina rounds out the only three newcomers to start out next to 29 returning warriors spanning all eras of the series.

Tekken 8 is still scheduled to launch on January 26, 2024 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
