  • Whether she’s stretching her toned bod as Cammy or rocking out as I-No, Harukasu’s fighting game cosplays are all winners

There’s so many talented people in the fighting game community that it’s pretty astounding and goes beyond just those who compete in tournaments.

Japanese cosplayer Harukasu is one such special talent who has some real winners for fighting game costumes including Street Fighter 6’s design for Cammy and Guilty Gear Strive’s I-No.

Out of her recent works, Harukasu seems to like showing off her Cammy the most lately, and it’s not hard to see why that would be.

Her union jack jacket looks immaculately made with all the details, studs and zippers that are supposed to be there, she’s got the battle gloves with the different-sized guards made, the boots and the rest of the outfit underneath too.

It looks like she’s spent a lot of time getting the poses right as well, which is important if you truly want to pull Cammy off correctly.

Harukasu also appears to spend just as much time keeping her body in top tier shape as she does on her costumes, and it certainly shows.

On top of that, we’re always a sucker for amazing I-No cosplays as well, and hers looks like it might have the most work put into it that we’ve ever seen — even the puffed out jacket sleeves and giant hat look unbelievably good.

Even her glasses and wig look basically perfect.

And of course it’s not complete without her guitar ready to rock out too.

If you enjoyed these, there’s plenty more fantastic cosplay to be found on Harukasu’s X and Instagram pages.

  • OpenAI to receive further financial support from Microsoft

Microsoft has announced a multiyear, multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI, a startup that specializes in AI research and development. This investment follows Microsoft’s previous investments of $1 billion in 2019 and another round in 2021. This brings its cumulative investment to $13 billion and OpenAI’s valuation to roughly $29 billion. The investment is intended to give Microsoft access to some of the most popular and advanced AI systems. At the moment, Microsoft is competing with the likes of Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta Platforms. They are racing to dominate the fast-growing technology that generates text, images, and other media in response to a short prompt.

    OpenAI ChatGPT

OpenAI said with the new funding, it will work towards its CEO Sam Altman’s vision. This vision is to build “as smart as humans” computer software. Sam Altman said in an interview that his company’s partnership with Microsoft is “working very well”. He also said that he “expects to raise additional funds over time from the tech giant and other investors”. This will help the brand to keep up with Microsoft’s progress to build more complex AI models.

    Microsoft’s Partnership with OpenAI

Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI is more than just a financial investment. It is also the exclusive provider of computing power for OpenAI’s research, products, and programming interfaces for developers. Startups and multinational brands, including Microsoft, are rushing to integrate their products with OpenAI. This means massive workloads running on Microsoft’s cloud servers.

According to insiders, Microsoft invested $10 billion in OpenAI earlier this year. This is part of a “multi-year” agreement. When asked whether Microsoft would continue to invest, Altman said: “I hope so”, and “There is still a long way to go, there is a lot of computing power that needs to be built between now and AGI… The training cost is very high.”

Altman revealed that “revenue growth has been good this year,” but he did not provide financial details. However, he confirms that the company is still operating at a loss due to training costs. He also mentioned that the Microsoft partnership will ensure that “we all benefit from each other’s success and everyone is happy.”

    OpenAI

    Gizchina News of the week

    Benefits of the Investment

The funding will allow OpenAI to continue its independent research and develop AI that is increasingly safe, useful, and powerful. In pursuit of its mission to ensure advanced AI benefits all of humanity, OpenAI remains a capped-profit company and is governed by the OpenAI non-profit. This structure allows OpenAI to raise the capital it needs to fulfil its mission without sacrificing its core beliefs about broadly sharing benefits and the need to prioritize safety.

Microsoft will increase its investments in the development and deployment of specialized supercomputing systems to accelerate OpenAI’s AI research and integrate OpenAI’s AI systems with its products while “introducing new categories of digital experiences.” The tech giant’s Azure cloud platform will continue to be OpenAI’s exclusive cloud provider, powering the startup’s workloads across research, products, and API services.

    Criticisms

Some critics have raised concerns about the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI. Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI but left the company in 2018, tweeted in February 2023 that “OpenAI was created as an open source (which is why I named it ‘Open’ AI), non-profit company to serve as a counterweight to Google, but now it has become a closed source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by Microsoft”. However, OpenAI has stated that it remains a capped-profit company after the deal. This allows it to continue to raise capital with checks and balances in place.

Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI has been both praised and criticized. On the one hand, the partnership could mean billions of dollars a year in new revenue for Microsoft as workloads pile up in Azure. The investment structure is complicated, but it extends Microsoft’s ongoing collaboration across AI supercomputing and research. Microsoft will deploy OpenAI’s models across its consumer and enterprise products and introduce new categories of digital experiences built on OpenAI’s technology. This includes Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service, which empowers developers to build cutting-edge AI applications through direct access to OpenAI models backed by Azure’s trusted, enterprise-grade capabilities and AI-optimized infrastructure and tools.

    OpenAI ChatGPT

Overall, Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI has the potential to bring huge benefits to both companies and to the field of AI as a whole. However, there are also concerns about the direction that OpenAI is taking and whether it is still fulfilling its original mission of being an open-source, non-profit company. It remains to be seen how the partnership will develop in the coming years and whether it will continue to be a force for good in the world of AI.

    Conclusion

Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI is a significant step towards advancing AI research and development. The investment will allow the startup to continue its independent research and develop AI that is increasingly safe, useful, and powerful. Microsoft’s partnership with the startup is more than just a financial investment. It is also the exclusive provider of computing power for OpenAI’s research, products, and programming interfaces for developers. Some critics have raised concerns about the partnership. However, OpenAI has stated that it remains a capped-profit company after the deal. This allows it to continue to raise capital with checks and balances in place.

Both brands will likely continue to cooperate in the feature as Microsoft competes with other bigwigs in the AI market. OpenAI’s ChatGPT took a lead in the generative AI market. However, it will have to improve if it hopes to remain on top.

  • Samsung holds 84% of the Korean smartphone market

According to data released by Counterpoint Research on Monday, Samsung retains its top position in South Korea. The report reveals that in Q3, 2023, Samsung accounts for 84% of the Korean market. This is a distant first position. In a distant second position is Apple which accounts for 15% of the South Korean smartphone market. This means that there are basically two mobile phone brands in the South Korean market, Samsung and Apple. Both brands account for a whopping 99% of the market share. This means that every other brand in the Korean market is sharing 1%.

Galaxy Z Flip 5G in the Korean smartphone market

Counterpoint Research reveals that despite Samsung’s declining market share, it still has more than 80% of South Korea’s smartphone market. The decline is mainly because of the launch of the iPhone 15 which is now competing with its high-end phones. One of the reason for Apple’s low market share in South Korea is the late launch of the iPhone 15 series in the market. The iPhone 15 series was launched in South Korea in October. Thus, it has been in the market for only a few weeks. However, within these few weeks, Apple’s market share increased by 2%, taking the company from 13% to 15%.

Samsung dominates the Korean smartphone market

According to the latest industry data, Samsung Electronics seized over 80% of the smartphone market share (84%, to be exact) in its homeland of South Korea in Q3 2023. As per Counterpoint Research, these amazing numbers are amid the contracted demands for high-end smartphones and other gadgets. The report highlights that around 3.4 million smartphones were sold in South Korea by Samsung during Q3, i.e., July to September. Notably, the numbers are down by 10% during the same period a year ago. Samsung Electronics managed to grab a higher market share, all thanks to the popularity and buzz around the latest flip and foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

    Apple’s market share in Korea

Apple’s iPhones accounted for 15 per cent of the market, a 2 percentage point increase from the previous quarter. These are some healthy numbers for the American smartphone maker, despite the delayed launch of its Apple iPhone 15 series. The report from Counterpoint Research (via Yonhap News Agency) shows that other brands, such as Motorola Inc., held the remaining 1% of the market.

    iPhone 15 Series

    Gizchina News of the week

The expectation is that within the next two to three months, the iPhone 15 will likely make decent sales in Korea. At least, it will hold on to its own before the official launch of the Galaxy S24 series.

    Reasons behind Samsung’s market share

There are a couple of reasons behind the huge market share by Samsung in South Korea. For those who do not know, South Korea is the home country of Samsung. Thus, there is some sort of loyalty to the brand in South Korea. Lets take a look at the factors that contributed to Samsung’s huge market share in South Korea

    1. Popularity of foldable devices: Samsung’s latest foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5, have been well-received in the Korean market, contributing to Samsung’s market share.
    2. Brand loyalty: Samsung is a Korean company, and many Koreans prefer to buy products made by Korean companies. Samsung has a strong brand image in Korea, which has helped it maintain its market share.
    3. Wide range of products: Samsung offers a wide range of smartphones at different price points, making them accessible to a broad range of consumers.

    Reasons behind Apple’s market share

Just like Samsung, there are also some reasons behind the market share of Apple in South Korea. Here are some of the reasons.

    1. Performance: According to a survey conducted by Counterpoint Research, respondents cited “Performance” (32%) as the first priority for switching from an Android phone to an iPhone. This means that there is a general likeness for the iPhone in Korea because of its performance.
    2. Brand image: Respondents in the same survey cited “Brand image” (31%) as the second priority for switching from an Android phone to an iPhone. Apple has a very good brand image globally. Thus, people can buy an iPhone without worrying if the device will deliver their needs. This mostly happen because of the good brand image that the company has.
    3. Camera: Satisfaction and expectation with the camera had the greatest impact on the purchase decision, according to the same survey.
    4. Delayed launch: Despite the delayed launch of its Apple iPhone 15 series, Apple managed to increase its market share by two percentage points to 15% over Q3 2023. The delayed launch did affect the sales of the iPhone 15 series in the country. If it had launched a few weeks earlier, the results would have been different.

    Samsung Galaxy Fold

    Final Words

Samsung dominates the Korean smartphone market with an 84% market share, while Apple accounts for 15% of the market. Samsung’s market share can be attributed to factors such as the popularity of foldable devices, brand loyalty, and a wide range of products. Apple’s market share can be attributed to factors such as performance, brand image, and camera quality.

Data shows that from July to September this year, a total of about 3.4 million phones were sold in South Korea. This is a 10% decrease from the same period last year. Among them, Samsung mobile phones have firmly dominated the market, accounting for 84% of total sales. This is mainly due to the popularity of its new folding screen mobile phones, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5. What do you think about the South Korean mobile phone market share? • Katsuhiro Harada confirms once again that Heihachi Mishima is completely dead in Tekken 8

Just last night, Reina was revealed as the final character for Tekken 8’s base roster at the end of the Evo Tekken 8 Showcase. Based on her fighting style, it appears that she has some unknown connection to the Mishima bloodline.

Could she be another offspring of Heihachi’s? Though she’s different in many ways, it feels like Reina is effectively the replacement for Heihachi in Tekken 8.

Speaking of Heihachi, Reina’s reveal as the final character in Tekken 8 confirms that Heihachi will not be present in this game. Leading up to Reina’s reveal, Harada had something to say about Heihachi.

“Heihachi Mishima is completely dead,” exclaimed Harada at the Evo Tekken 8 Showcase. This seems to perfectly sum up why the character isn’t playable in Tekken 8.

Needless to say, the emphasis that Harada places on “completely” is an important point here considering the history of the Mishima storyline within the Tekken series. Needless to say, we shouldn’t expect a reveal that Heihachi somehow survived his encounter with Kazuya Mishima at the conclusion of Tekken 7’s main story.

Some degree of skepticism is to be expected considering that the character was believed dead after the events of Tekken 1 where Kazuya threw him off a cliff, and during the events of Tekken 5 where he was caught in an explosion.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Harada has stated that Heihachi was killed at the end of Tekken 7. Michael Murray also added that it was intended to make the fighter’s death be convincing this time.

“He looked pretty dead to me,” said Harada back in late March. “Heihachi had failed to actually convert the devil gene, and he doesn’t have it so there’s no way he can revive like Kazuya or Jin can.”

“Heihachi has been dead so many times, you have to make sure it’s convincing this time’, and we were like, ‘you told us to make sure he’s dead, right?!’” added Murray.

It’s also worth noting that Harada had been hinting for years that Jun Kazama was still alive despite it being implied that Ogre had killed her before the events of Tekken 3. That turned out to be true with Jun’s return in Tekken 8, so that probably means that Harada is being truthful when he says that Heihachi is now “completely dead.”

We should also mention that this clearly isn’t just a case of Heihachi lying low considering Kuma’s Tekken 8 biography. Kuma is in denial, but the writing is on the wall when it comes to Heihachi’s fate.

It truly is the end of an era, but sometimes that just how these sort of stories unfold. We’ll have to see how things play out from here between Kazuya and Jin, as well with Jun and Reina now joining the mix.

  • U.S. court rule that cars can legally store and transmit users’ data

A recent court ruling in the US has determined that infotainment systems in cars can legally store and transmit text messages and call logs from users’ phones, even if they have been deleted from the device. This ruling has huge implications for privacy and data protection. This means that car brands can collect and record sensitive personal data without the user’s knowledge or consent. The Washington Court of Appeals ruled last week that cars such as Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and General Motors did not violate the law by storing messages and call records from connected mobile phones. The ruling comes in response to five class-action lawsuits that were dismissed earlier this year. The appeal court also rejected requests to reopen those cases for continued probe.

    Background

The case was brought against several automakers, including Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, General Motors, and Ford, by plaintiffs who alleged that the companies had violated Washington state’s privacy laws by using vehicles’ on-board infotainment systems to record and intercept customers’ private text messages and mobile phone call logs. The plaintiffs argued that the infotainment systems stored each intercepted, recorded, and downloaded a copy of text messages in non-temporary computer memory in such a manner that the vehicle owner could not access it or delete it, even if the text message was deleted from the smartphone. The same goes for call logs, which the class-action complaint argued were also being intercepted and recorded.

    Complaint

According to the complaint against Honda, the infotainment systems in cars produced by the company starting in 2014 “store a copy of every intercepted, recorded and downloaded text message in non-transitory computer memory so that the owner cannot access or delete it.”

“Honda retains a copy of the text messages in the vehicle’s onboard memory even if the text messages are deleted from the smartphone, even if the smartphone is disconnected,” the plaintiffs argue. They also make the same argument for call logs.

The plaintiff points to Berra, a Maryland company that makes related equipment for Honda. They accuse the company of being “able to extract stored text messages from the infotainment system.” According to the lawsuit, Berra’s software was not available to the public and was intended for use by law enforcement.

“Copies of text messages and call logs stored on Honda cars could be retrieved by unauthorized users of Berra devices without the need for any passwords, fingerprints, facial images or other security measures. Thus, they bypass the measures employed by plaintiffs and class members to protect their phones,” the complaint alleges.

The Seattle-based appellate judge ruled that the interception and recording of mobile phone activity did not meet the Washington Privacy Act’s standard that a plaintiff must prove that “his or her business, his or her person, or his or her reputation” has been threatened. The judge stated that the claims were not severe enough to be considered a violation of the state’s Washington Privacy Act (WPA). The ruling means that car brands can continue to collect and record users’ text messages and call logs without violating privacy laws.

In other words, it is legal for cars to automatically and without authorization instantaneously intercept, record, download, store, and transmit text messages and call logs. This is because, according to the latest court ruling, the privacy invasion is potential but not harmful to the user. The harm does not have to be actual. It’s unclear whether the plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit plan to appeal further.

    Implications

The court ruling has significant implications for privacy and data protection. It means that car brands can collect and record sensitive personal information without the user’s knowledge or consent. This data can be accessed by law enforcement agencies, as well as potentially being vulnerable to hacking and cyber-attacks. The ruling also highlights the need for stronger privacy laws and regulations to protect users’ personal data in the age of connected cars and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Many people do not joke with their personal data and they will do everything to protect their data. Now, there is a chance that users call logs and messages can be used by the police and car brands. There may be consequences, maybe more than the car brand bargained for. Some people may not connect their mobile phones to their cars no matter how convenient it is. If it’s compulsory to connect a phone to the car, some may just get a side phone for the car. No doubt, this ruling will make people think twice before connecting their mobile phones to their cars.

Also, car brands will have more work to do. This is because they will have to spend some money on ads convincing users that their data are safe. Cases like this will also likely spring up in other regions like the E.U and Asian continent. However, the judgement in the U.S. has already set a pace that other regions may or may not follow.

    Conclusion

The recent court rulings in the U.S. allows car infotainment systems to store and transmit users’ texts and call logs. This ruling has huge implications for privacy and data protection. It means that car brands can legally collect and record sensitive personal data. The brand does not even need the users consent and this can be done without the users knowledge. The ruling highlights the need for stronger privacy laws and regulations. These would help to protect users’ personal information in the age of connected cars and the Internet of Things (IoT).
